"Yeah," Kita's tone surprised, "I was shocked when I heard Gin was all right with this. The only thing I know about this interview is it has something to do with Sumi and Aizen."
She watched as Juushiro's head nodded slowly the door then slid open as Mai entered with a dark-haired young lady. The girl was wearing a hat similar to the Commander's and the regulation Gotei uniform. Kita smiled at the young girl as she removed her hat and bowed to the two of them.
"Captain Ukitake, I am glad to see you doing well." She turned to Kita, smiled warmly, and bowed again, "Lady Miyamoto, thank you so very much for meeting with me. This is both an honor and a privilege."
Kita giggled, shaking her head as she waved the young girl off. "I am nothing, just a crack in a castle of glass. Please, Kita is fine."

Fuu shook her head quickly. “Sorry, that may be a little difficult for me, I mean you are doing a favor for me, Miyamoto. I don’t want to seem rude.”
Kita giggled again. “Don’t worry. I’ll tell you if you are. I tell everyone else, but if you’re too polite I’ll be uncomfortable.”
Captain Ukitake chuckled quietly saying nothing, even when she looked at him. She swallowed and bowed again. “I’ll try then, Miya- I mean, Kita. Then,” she hesitated, “you can call me Fuu.” She smiled a moment later. “You’re not at all what I expected.”
She bowed quickly once again. “And I don’t mean that in a bad way. Please understand that.”
“Fuu-chan, it’s alright,” Captain Ukitake called out. He waved to the seat across from them.
Fuu swiftly took a seat. “Sorry, I want this to go well. I don’t want to mess this up.”

"The only way you will mess this up is in the printing of lies. If you print what I tell you then you will not be messing anything up." Kita tried to reassure her.
"I just want to make sure I ask the right questions to get to the correct outcome for you and the people of the Soul Society. There are far too many wrongful rumors floating around and they need to be stopped."Fuu took a breath. "I want print the whole truth, about you, the woman the public knows as the goddess, about Aizen and what you suffered in Las Noches. I need to print this story so the rumors don't control us. So you get the respect you deserve."
Kita looked at Fuu pointedly, "Are you sure they are wrongful?"

Fuu straightened up in her seat. “I know that there’s more to the story. Captain Ukitake here may be the kindest man alive but he’s not a fool or a pushover. The commander adores the people in the Rukongai too much to lie to them, especially after what happened. The substitute trusts you like a brother trusts a sister, and if you were like that, my boss wouldn’t threaten me with my job if I mess this up.” She let out a breath.
“You have many good friends in high places. It should make people think. They’re not, so I want them to see the truth in print.”
Kita nodded, "Then let's get this started. I have nothing to hide, so ask whatever questions you have written in your tablet there." Kita lifted her cup and took a sip of her tea.
“Well, Your friends seem to think I need to ask you more than listen to get the truth, so I did come up with some questions.” Fuu held up her notebook. “But if I need to, I will abandon them and start from scratch.”
When Kita nodded, she flipped her notebook open. “Then, let’s start with the beginning. Most people don’t even know who you are, besides your … position in the war. Urahara said you’re human, so how did you come to know of us? Was it a hollow attack like it was with the substitute?”

Kita's head shook, "No, though as time went on I did start seeing more and more hollows. I was eleven when I first met the Uraharas. I attended school with Karin and Yuzu Kurosaki and met Ichigo the first time I was invited over to their home. Ichigo was the first soul reaper I saw." Kita giggled from behind her teacup when she lifted it.
"Or at least that is what I thought. I had no idea that Kisuke and the others were soul reapers, and in reality, even though I saw Ichigo in his soul reaper form I was still not sure what he was. In time I finally asked after seeing more and more soul reapers coming in and out of the shop." Kita shrugged, "It was the Winter War. The shop was a busy place.

“That’s very true.” Fuu nodded, taking notes quickly. This wasn’t at all what she expected. Urahara had been right. She didn’t know anything when it came to Miyamoto. And if she didn’t, neither did the public. She had her work cut out for her.
She picked up a cookie from the table, wondering how to proceed. She read her notes again before focusing on one detail. She did the math in her head and then looked up.
She glanced at the captain beside Kita and then back to Kita. “Looks like you were about the substitute’s age when he made his grand entrance when this war started. Is that right?”

Kita looked over at Juushiro, "Ichi was 15 in the Winter War, right?"
Juushiro's head nodded slowly, "Yes, you were two years older than Ichigo when you were taken by the Espada."
Kita's eyes narrowed, "Loki. That bastard. He was the one that started all of this." She looked at Fuu. "Everyone thinks I was drug into this mess because Aizen was looking for the Seraph." Kita's head nodded. "He was. Even during the Winter War, Aizen was very aware of the Seraph and the vessel and knew that in time the two would be making an appearance soon enough. However, I was hidden. Kisuke made sure of it. He hid me from everyone. Even the Gotei was in the dark about me. There were only a very choice few in the human realm that knew what I was."

Fuu looked at Juushiro, "So no one here knew about Kita at all? Not even you?" She watched as Juushiro shook his head. "But why? The Gotei could have helped keep Kita safe."
Ukitake shook his head. “No, Officer Ayumu, you have the wrong impression here. It is not that we could protect her, but that something else is more important."
"More important?"
"Yes, because Kita is human and belongs in Karakura. Unless Aizen found her and wakened the Seraph, she did not belong here. Therefore, her friends knew but the Gotei did not. It is that simple. She did not belong in this war.”
Fuu chewed on her pencil, frowning. “But then why did an Espada grab you? And how did Aizen find out? Was it because of …” her voice lowered, unsure how to follow because of the history between the two, “Was it because he was looking for Ichimaru?”

"No," Kita belted out, "Aizen was not looking for Gin." Kita paused for a moment in thought. "If I remember correctly. I was noticed by the Espada, Loki when Aizen sent them to the human realm to retrieve Karin and Orihime."
Kita's hands drew into tight fists in her lap. "The bastard took a fancy to me and came back for me the next night."
"So..." Fuu saw the look on Kita's face it was a mix of emotions and she knew she would have to tread lightly with her next question, "he took you for... his own?"
"Yes, I was raped and abused daily if not hourly." A tear trickled down her cheek as Kita looked away from them out to the garden and across the lake.

Fuu was at a loss as to what to put down. Was this something she should share? She looked to Ukitake for guidance, but he only shook his head and indicated toward Kita. It was her choice.
Fuu braced herself. “Do you ... want that to be known? I don't have to explain it, but you did tell me."
Kita nodded, still looking outside. Fuu let her be, making her notes, not sure when she would speak again. Should she stop there? If this was only the beginning, should she continue? Fuu picked up another cookie and nibbled on it. She was starting to understand Urahara and the substitute’s evasiveness.
Kita brought her out of her reverie, finally turning back around after Ukitake touched her shoulder and she picked up her tea.
“Gin didn’t cause my suffering. He didn’t even know until he arrived.” Kita explained.
Fuu found her footing again but the irony of the reason for it wasn’t lost on her. “You really defend him, don’t you? Ichimaru, I mean. But he can’t be completely innocent or he would have been a prisoner like you. Witnesses, however, saw him at Aizen’s side when they attacked Soul Society — when he dueled with Captain Mutsu and Lieutenant Kira was kidnapped.”

"Gin was trapped just as much as I was. If he did not do what Aizen ordered--" Kita looked down into the cup that she held between her hands. "I suffered the consequences."
She looked up at Fuu, "Aizen used the ones we loved against us. Our family, friends, the ones we loved, and even our children were hung over our heads. You might think that we could have killed Aizen easily. Especially me since I had the Seraph's powers, but Aizen had eyes--at all times--on the ones he was using against us. If his reiatsu disappeared they were to die without hesitation. He had us right where he wanted us, and he used me and Gin against one another. I was beaten for Gin's disobedience and he was beaten for mine."
She fell silent once more looking out to the lake as she spoke softly. "We wear one another scars."

Fuu listened and continued to scratch notes, but her frown grew deeper. When Kita paused, she jumped. “I understand that he wasn't there first, but are you saying he cared for you from the beginning? That he didn’t change sides to try-” she recalled the facts, “to kill Aizen. And that he didn’t use you to get there with something maybe happening along the way?”
“Ayumu,” Ukitake murmured. Was the friendly captain warning her or reminding her of her purpose? It was hard to tell with him calmly drinking tea. But she didn’t apologize. This wasn’t about her. Not completely.
Fuu bowed her head. “If this question is impertinent, I’ll drop it, but we know from his trial that he turned on us before for his goals, and this time, when Aizen returned, both of the Lieutenants close to him paid the price.” She looked to Kita again. “I need to know if he cared before you became pregnant.”

Before Juushiro could interject again Kita blurted out, "He did."
She turned her attention back to the ones in the room. "Contrary to the belief of everyone Gin is a good man. Does he have an unquenchable blood lust, and is it easy to annoy him? Yes, but I can name three others in the Gotei that are the same if not worse than Gin and you cannot sit there and tell me there are not."
Kita looked from Fuu to Juushiro then back to Fuu, "Gin has put his life on the line for more than just me while we were in Las Noches. He won't admit it, but I know what that man has done to keep us all safe. I have had to put him back together one too many times for his actions."
Kita's head shook, "I know Gin has done wrong in the past and I am not asking anyone to forget what he has done. It was wrong, but he has been atoning for that for the last 16 years. It's time to start seeing the new path he has carved for himself."

Fuu nodded along as she wrote more notes. Personally, she had her doubts about his changed nature, but Kita’s answers were enough for her purpose now. In fact, it proved her theory about Gin and Kita being a team this entire war. For one reason or another. She wanted to ask more about Gin’s role, but that wasn’t her goal for this interview. “You say 16 years, and I won’t argue that point. But does that mean you trusted him before he helped you in Las Noches?”
Kita smiled. “Gin was my friend when he lived at the shop, so yes, I did.”
Fuu blinked, rereading some of her notes, and putting other clues together. “Did Ichimaru tell Aizen what you were to protect you from Loki?”
Kita’s face hardened again. “No, I told Aizen’s daughter to escape, but after learning the truth, Aizen still threw me back to that monster.”
More than a bit nauseous, Fuu dropped her pencil. “So no one helped you get away from the espada? Then when did Ichimaru start protecting you? and How?”
Was this really her life there? And was she actually rooting for the Snake to end it?

Juushiro sighed and raised a hand to stall them both. "Kita, you only need to answer those questions if you want to. It is not necessary here." He looked to Fuu. "The full extent of what she suffered in Las Noches does not need to be disclosed unless she wishes it to be known. It is already a fact that Aizen did learn about her identity as being a vessel of the Seraph, and Kita has already revealed that she went through much with Ichimaru as her protector."
"But-" Fuu tried to speak but again, the captain interrupted.
"Consider your own wellbeing as well as you go forward. If Kita answers, it will not be pleasant, Fuu." he murmured, going so far as to drop the suffix to emphasize the stark nature of this venture. If she pursued it any further.
