Yumiko pulled the rose from her hair, pondering on that name, as he wandered away. The blood on the rose…. made her pause for a moment. Tucking the lock of hair back, she returned to her room and set the bloom down on the table. Walking back into the hall, she noticed Vale’s form still walking slowly away. She frowned. “Why are you apologizing, I wonder….”

"What does it matter, the reason he is apologizing?" Koga said, walking towards her from the other end of the hall. "I am sure they left your memories intact." He stopped in front of her and rested his hand on her shoulder. "And, they did. Just a minor adjustment to your personality." Yumiko looked at him, her eyes cold and empty. "Did you think this was going to be easy?"

“Did I think what would be easy?” she asked. “He means nothing to me, so why would it be difficult to watch him leave?” She tilted her head, looking into his lavender eyes. “Or perhaps you are referring to my ties to Soul Society. Examining any memories brings no harm. Now that I have accepted that if pain is the norm, I know that nothing is worth feeling.”

"Pain is a norm? Hm...If only that were true." Koga's body bent awkwardly as he looked into her eyes. "This is interesting. I will take my leave, Ryouma." Koga turned and walked away from her quickly, leaving her standing in the doorway of her room.

Yumiko looked after him and then turned to go down the other way, heading to the canopy for some training. Having the ability to protect her quiet of mind was what was important now, and the enemies were always changing.

"Eye of the Storm":After her best friend's hurtful words had deepened the pain of her lover's hate-filled gaze, Yumiko had fled. But she did not want to return to the scene of her crime, nor did she want to disappear into the garden. She'd wandered the halls for a while, staring out at the brutal, beautiful, stark landscape, until her feet paused at a familar door. She hesitated and then slippped into the room Aizen had gifted her, when she was first freed... If it was freedom she had found. Yumiko felt tears form in her eyes yet again, but she shook them away. Soul Society would always find a way to tie her down... Karakura wasn't far enough. And yet, her time in Las Noches hurt more than both combined. Because she would get so close and yet.. she would always be too far. Vale's accusations ran through her head and this time she couldn't brush the tears away fast enough. She'd really thought he could fix the gaping hole, but he had claimed that she had driven him into the arms of others. He now hated her...tried to kill her... and had told her to go back. Go back to Aizen. The noble walked over to the balcony, letting the cool air freeze the desire to continue crying, as she let her mind roam, over the end of that night and to nights felt long ago, back again to his words and ... her kiss. She lowered her head, mind going back to question a brutal twist in his relationship with her had long been buried inside her. "How is it not a game?"

Stepping from the shadows Aizen looked at the distressed woman standing on the balcony, her eyes lowered to the floor. Hearing her finally cry for understanding he spoke. "It has never been a game, Hime."
He rest his hand to her shoulder as she lifted her head looking up at him. "How can that be?"
"Because life is cruel. No matter how glamorous you try to make it. It will always remain cruel. You are what they call a victim of circumstance. One with hope in changing things that are not appealing will always be swallowed up by the truth.”
His hand slid from her shoulder as he turned and stepped away from her. “When you were first brought to Las Noches, you were never forced to do anything you did not want. Everything that happened to you, were by your wishes.” He turned looking at her. “Were they not?”

Yumiko sighed. She couldn't deny that part of her past or the fact she couldn't just dismiss it because of the peace she'd felt then. But then again... "It wasn't real, though," she whispered, closing her eyes. "The espadas' words, the freedom, even... what happened between us...who you were and are... " She wrapped her arms around herself. "How was it not just a dream to keep me blind, as usual?"
And why am I even asking these questions? she continued in her mind.
She didn't want to be manipulated again, but she was asking him the questions anyway. Why?
But then again, she knew why. He had shattered her dream and yet, the pain at the end seemed even more real than most of her life since.

Aizen looked deep into her eyes. "Wasn't it? If I remember correctly it was you that turned against me when you found out why I bought you here. I was not going to lie to you when you ask me right out what my intentions where." He turned his back to her looking out over the moonlit sands, his hands resting to the rail. "You were mistreated by the Soul Society. Locked away by your own family. Then disowned. Ill will--" he turned looking at her, "rested in your heart if you want to admit it or not. Though conflicted, it was there none the less."
He brushed past her stopping at the door of the balcony, "I gave you everything you sought. Freedom. Your sight. Control of your powers." He looked back over his shoulder. "Love and companionship. I did not do anything you did not want." He quickly turned with narrowed eyes. "And you turned on me. You ran to another man. Seeking yet again, the very things I had already given you, but you. You were not happy, not even with Tervaden. You were not happy in Soul Society nor in Karakura...Were you ever happy, Yumiko, or was your captivity the only place you felt happy and secure? Unreachable to the rest of the world a safe-haven where you were accepted. Where you could be a naive, spoiled Noble."
He stepped toward her as her head lowered. Lifting her head with a slide of his hand under her chin, he lifted it slowly and looked her in the eyes. "You're so quick to change the ones around you, but never willing to change yourself. This is our world that you were brought into. A place where you can grow and expand your life. Be free and not be judged for who or what you are." He released her and turned again. "But you refuse to step out of the darkness you lived in for so long to enter into what we call life. Learn to embrace what is given to you." He turned at the balcony entrance once more looking at her. "For you know as well as I. That can all disappear, within a blink of an eye."

"Aizen...." she lowered her head, clenching her hands on the railing, "I did not betray you first. You threw me away when I tried to calm your rage towards a woman and her child. You basically told me that the dream was over... You tossed me from your room after learning the truth, after threatening me, like a used towel."
Yumiko turned to face him. "When I left Las Noches, I just wanted to learn the truth. I knew I had to come back and not just to protect Kita and Orihime. I came back because only I could see if any of the life I built was real here. And you...." she turned around again, "shattered it. Letting you go was harder than picking up the pieces of the life I had built. I would probably have been still painfully devoted to you...if you hadn't thrown me away in the garden."
"Your actions created the opening for Vale...and I wanted to feel something again..."
Looking out over the balcony one more time, Yumiko retreated back to her room. "If life is so cruel, why do we keep searching for sometthing to fill the emptiness left behind? Why did I kiss you two nights ago? And why, contrary to your words, would I keep trying to change to keep what I had?"

"Didn't you? You were not here to calm me. Not here to pamper me or coddle me. You were brought here as a weapon against our enemies. What I choose to do with you was my prerogative. I still did not try to change you in the slightest bit." He turned from her again. "Stop trying to be everyone's guardian angel, Yumiko and let them live their life their way. You can't change their destiny any more then you can change your own." He opened the door to the room, turned and looked at her again. "Find your path and stay on it for once. You'll find it is better then this back and forth that has made you what you are today." He turned stepping out in the hall his final word echoing through the room as the door closed behind him. "Miserable."

"Preservation":
As a tremor rippled through Mizue no Kagami, Yumiko started up from her curled up position against the counter, the lull created by the floral scents and the shower’s mist of warmth vanishing from around her. Her reddened wrists tightened on her blade, sighing and reaching out with her ‘sight.' For a moment, she thought she pinpointed Vale's energy but it slipped away as she focused on Gin's falling reiatsu levels. Had Vale attacked him before leaving for Soul Society?Or what remained of it.
The noble turned and hit her head against the door, gritting her teeth. Why couldn’t she make up her mind? In one moment, she thought she was ready to face Aizen and the ‘reality’of Las Noches… and yet she still felt torn about the fate of Soul Society…. and harming one of her father figures. She closed her eyes against a new sting of tears. “Pathetic,” the taunt spat out by the espada, on top of Vale’s accusations and Kita’s hurtful words, resounded in her ears. Damn!
Yumiko tossed her damp hair back, beating back the tears and pain, taking a breath and eyes narrowing in determination. There was something she could do for her reality. She grabbed another towel to finish cleaning up and reclaimed her zanpakuto. She wanted to regain Kita’s friendship. Maybe the relationship between herself and Vale had been ripped apart long ago, and she just would not see it. But she wasn’t going to let the same happen to her friendship with Kita. That…. would be too much to swallow.
Even if her place was here, she wasn’t going to be without her friend… and it seemed that Gin needed help.
Drawing Mizue, she opened her door and set off for the Fourth Tower.
