Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: The ChaosEpisode 524 "A New Chapter": (continued) Shiori agreed to answer his questions as he escorted her to the Sixth Division. "Sure what would you like to know, Captain?" The two exited the Tenth Division officers building."You called yourself a Mystic. Does that mean something specific, or is it just a title? I know your clan is one of priests and priestesses, but does that look similar to priestesses in the shrines, or is it something different.""For the most part, it is just a title," Shiori explained as the walked. "Centuries ago, millennia even, there were more religious figures in Soul Society. The people relied on the priests and priestesses in the shrines for spiritual guidance and to pray to the gods for this thing or the other. As time went on and the Gotei became more prevalent, the need for the priest and priestesses' services dwindled. You can still find some of them at the shrines, but their roles have become less influential over time. My clan was formed by my ancestors who were priests and priestesses at the shrines and instead of abandoning their profession, found a way to work with change instead of against it. Thus we organized and recruited many priests and priestesses to become protectors of the people. Our main interest is giving immediate aid to the people of Soul Society in ways that the Gotei cannot."

Toshiro nodded slowly as he took in the information Shiroi relayed to him. It made sense. In the small shrine at Junrinan, the priestess there was an older woman who had been a priestess in her human life. She offered blessings and prayers and that was about it. Even in Seireitei, the shrines were more well managed than in Rukongai, but still less than he had expected. He wasn't sure why. Maybe some people looked to the Soul Reapers as the beings in control, rather than the gods or the Soul King. Shinigami were a force they could see and touch and go to verbally complain to when things went wrong.
"You have a zanpakuto, I notice," Toshiro pointed out. "I've never seen any of your clan in the academy."
Shiori shook her head. "We have our own school with our own curriculum. It is similar to the Shino Academy, but the curriculum is a bit different." She pulled her scabbard out of her obi at her left side. She held it up to show Toshiro. "The Gotei allows us an asauchi to forge a zanpakuto so that we can fight Hollows, but we are unable to perform Konso because we are not allowed outside of the Soul Society. We don't have the authority to arrest anyone nor execute anyone. We can kill in self-defense or in the defense of another. Criminals have to be given over into the custody of Division Six or Two. Though I have to admit..." She giggled. "I tend to report to Second Division. Captain Ashimitsu and Lieutenant Kairo are much easier to deal with. And they always offer me refreshments when I come in to speak with them."
"Really?" Toshiro grunted. "Ashimitsu never told me about that. I figured he or Namori would take every opportunity to brag about someone like you visiting them regularly." Shiori giggled and covered her mouth. The sound was pleasant to his ears. Not high pitched and obnoxious. It was soft and sweet. He looked at her once more. "So, what has you going to Sixth instead of Second?"

"My High Priestess sent me to retrieve a memorandum on the updated laws and regulations that allow us to operate independently. Around this time each year, the Gotei prepares a new one for us—or at least, that’s what she told me." Shiori’s cheeks flushed a soft pink as she glanced away from the captain.
"And then I managed to get lost on my way to pick them up," she added with a sheepish smile.
Toshiro chuckled and gave her a small smile. "Well, lucky for you, you ended up in one of the more tame divisions by comparison. It could have been worse. You could have gotten stuck in Fifth Division with Captain Hirako. He would have kept you there all night with questions." He laughed at the expression on her face. "Although, I have to admit, it is a little amusing that you can get to Ashimitsu's division just fine, but got lost looking for Kuchiki's. They're right across from each other."
Shiori's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "I should be ashamed of myself," she murmured, turning her gaze away from the captain.
Toshiro raised an eyebrow. "Why’s that?"
She sighed softly, glancing back at him. "I got a bit distracted on my way to the Sixth Division. I came across a lost child, and helping him find his mother must’ve thrown me off track."

"That sounds like a good reason to be distracted," Toshiro told her, stopping their walk for a moment. He turned to face her. "You said the priests and priestesses of the Miyazaki clan are sworn to protect the people of Soul Society. You got lost because you were doing your duty. There's no shame in that."
She giggled softly, glancing up at the captain. "It is when the Soul Society is like your own backyard."
Toshiro let out a genuine smile and chuckled. He crossed his arms and continued walking, Shiori following him closely. "One year during winter, after I became a captain, my... previous Lieutenant... she convinced me to go out drinking with her. I had two cups of sake and was finished. On my way back to the barracks I got so disoriented because all of the rooftops had snow on them, so they all looked the same..." Toshiro laughed with a melancholy tone, shaking his head. "I ended up in Thirteenth Division. Rangiku checked everywhere, even Fourth Division, before Ukitake eventually called her and told her where I was. I had never been so embarrassed in my life. It was like she was my mother picking me up from school. It took a full year before I agreed to go out drinking with her again."
He wasn't sure why he was telling her this but... it felt good to remember. It felt painful too, but still good.

Shiori giggled covering her mouth. "I can relate with that. I have had my fair share of embarrassments with my friends, because of my friends and because of my own foolishness. I guess it's all part of the growing stage in life."Toshiro nodded in agreement as they arrived at the gates of Sixth Division. He looked up at the Sixth Division insignia at the top of the gate. "Well, here we are. Sixth Division." He turned back to Shiori. He wasn't sure what to say, so he quipped, "If Ashimitsu ever gives you a hard time, come and tell me. I'll set him straight. He's a good captain, but he can be annoying as hell."She gave him a warm smile and nod, "I will do that, and thank you so much for your assistance. Also," she blushed a soft shade of pink. "If you ever have a free moment stop by the Miyazaki estate and say hello it would be a nice change of pace from the norm." Toshiro didn't expect to agree, but he did. He nodded and gave her a warm smile. "Promise. Good luck in Sixth." He watched her walk through the gate before he headed off back to his own division. Making her way through the Sixth Division gate she turned slightly and looked over her shoulder as the captain walked back the way they came, she smiled softly. "He is very handsome. I hope we get to meet again very soon."~END RP~ "Pursuit of Truth"
