"I have two favorites," Makino said, digging through her closet until she found the first one. She turned and held it up, letting it fall open. It was a solid navy blue kimono with a few white stalks of wheat along the sleeves and skirt. "It has a green, white, and black obi with floral patterns, and a purple obijime."
She handed it to Riku so he could look at it while she searched for the other kimono. Finally, she found it, turned, and held it up. It was a mint green kimono with bamboo stalks in blue, jungle green, and golden-yellow. The bamboo started at the bottom and grew upward, lined with leaves of various sizes. "The obi is the same navy blue as in the kimono, and the obijime matches the green and yellow in the kimono." She smiled as Riku looked from the kimono to her.
"Yes, my mother made and painted them both," Makino explained. "Actually, all of the kimonos she sells are made and painted by her."

"Oooh~" Riku cooed over the bamboo kimono. He smoothed his hand over the soft fabric. "This one is so gorgeous! I love the bamboo motif. I feel like I don't see many good bamboo patterns that don't look manufactured."
He looked at the navy blue one and nodded. "This one feels more like a yukata with how simple it is. I really like it." He handed the bamboo kimono back to Makino. "What would you say your mother's favorite patterns and colors are to work with?"

"She loves all colors," Makino giggled softly as she refolded the mint green kimono. "That's the trait of an artist, I guess. For patterns, she loves dragons, flowers, and birds." She put the kimono away and turned back to Riku, taking the navy blue one to fold next.
"Kin has a beautiful black silk kimono with a gold and green dragon with red eyes painted on it," she said, leaning in closer to Riku and whispering, "It was painted with liquid gold." She finished folding the kimono and put it away.
"If you ever see one of my mother's kimonos and the paint on it looks like it's shimmering or shiny like gold," she said, looking back at Riku, "it's because it is. She has numerous colors that are real gold, recolored."

Riku's eyes glossed over as he thought about Saya Tori's kimonos painted with gold. He felt a familiar twitch in his fingers as he imagined himself wearing one of the kimonos with gold paint. He had seen pictures of some of the ones with gold in them and thought they were stunning. He never imagined that she used actual gold in the paint.
Riku's clan, the Asuharas, never stole from those who didn't deserve it. Even when they engaged in petty thievery on the side when they weren't participating in heists, they only made targets of those who were deserving of having their valuables taken. But Riku, being the lover of all things treasure that he was, had to admit that a tiny, dark voice deep in the back of his brain sometimes whispered to him. A dragon kimono painted with gold paint sounded like the exact kind of kimono that would make the perfect centerpiece for his personal collection.
And then, after a split second, he blinked and snapped out of the intrusive thought. He turned to Makino with a pout, a look of envy etched into his face. "I want it so bad."

Makino giggled, "well if your lucky maybe I can precure you one for your birthday." She turned her head slightly with a raised brow as if to say, 'Huh?'."Only if it has a dragon on it," Riku smiled. He wasn't sure if she realized he meant specifically the one Kin had, but regardless he doubted the man would ever give it up. He sure wouldn't. He looked through the rest of her closet. "So, what do you wear when you're not wearing your mother's kimonos? Or is that the only thing you and your family wears?"Makino chuckled, shaking her head. "No, we don’t only wear kimonos. We have different clothes too." She giggled softly. "Most of the time, I wear casual outfits—hakamas, yukatas, haoris—nothing out of the ordinary." She gave him a half smile, steering clear of mentioning any pieces they might wear after the sun settles in for the night to stay hidden in the shadows.
She glanced at Riku, noticing his curiosity. "Our family values tradition, but we also appreciate the convenience and comfort of other clothing. It’s a balance, really. We honor our heritage with the kimonos, but we’re not stuck in the past and of course, some of our activities require more practical clothing," she added with a knowing smile.
"Flexibility and ease of movement can be essential, depending on what we’re doing. But when the time comes to make an impression, nothing beats a beautifully crafted kimono."Riku nodded in agreement with a smile, flipping through the rest of her kimonos. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous. I love my mother's kimonos, but there's something different about your mother's. Both are amazing in different ways." He gave Makino a warm smile. "Thank you for showing me all of this." "Well, I know Mother is making your kimono, but if you ever want to borrow one, I wouldn't worry about it getting damaged," she giggled. "Just about getting it back."
They both laughed as they sat in Makino's room, with Riku going through the kimonos and asking questions about them. The time passed quickly, and soon it was time for Riku to go home to let his family know he would be helping with the cleanup effort. They hugged goodbye and went their separate ways, planning to meet up later that evening to head off to help with the cleanup.~END RP~ "Prodding for a Story"
