Makino's heart leapt at Byakuya's words as he stepped closer to her eldest brother her head and eyes lowering from what was happening before her. His last words echoed in her head as he stopped in front of Kin. Quickly she shot up and bowed to Byakuya.
"Captain Kuchiki, if I may please!" She almost screamed from the panic building inside her. She may have been the youngest of their clan but she knew where Byakuya was going with this. "Nii-sama means well. He is just scared. So much has happened. So much has changed. He did not want--"
Kin growled at his baby sister his hands clenching tighter at his sides cutting her off. "I am not scared!" He bellowed back at her. "Sit down and keep your mouth shut until you are spoken to!" Kin's look whipped back to Byakuya's, his eyes still narrowed. He was about to speak as Makino cut him off. "To--"
"PLEASE CAPTAIN!! DON'T DO THIS!" Tears streamed down her cheeks as her head hung, Sojiro lifted to his feet again, taking her in his arms. "Please don't do this. Nii-sama is all we have." She mumbled into Sojiro chest.

Sojiro’’s mind flared into rage at the words of the eldest brother, but before he could act on them, Makino was bawling and turning to him. He hesitated only a moment and held his girlfriend close, his chest constricting as she shook. He hadn’t wished to hurt a family to keep Makino at his side, but it seemed that he had. Even without the details, the heavy silence and Makino’s reaction was terrible enough. “Captain Kuchiki, is this …. is it really nec-“
"Of course he thinks it is necessary!" Kin's eyes narrowed to near slits as he looked between the boy comforting his baby sister and the man that was trying to push his weight in a family he has no say in. His look then went pointedly at Byakuya. His tone snide. "He has to prove to mother that he can not only please her in the bedroom, but control her children and make them bow to the new man of the family."
Sojiro closed his mouth with a click. Something was really wrong here, but he didn't know what to do about it. Daichi hissed audibly. But it was almost forgotten at another's reaction.

Saya had had her fill of her eldest son's disobedience and with his last comment to the young Ichimaru she lifted slowly from the table and walked Kin's way, both Kouen and Shirou lowered their eyes from their eldest brother as their mother walked toward him. By looking at Saya she looked no different than any other time, but it was her eyes that gave her away. She gently pushed Byakuya with a gentle word of of pardon and stepped up to her eldest son.
She stood there for only a second, a loud pop then sounded out in the room of dead silence as Kin was now on his knees in front of her, his hand to his fire red cheek and his head and eyes lowered to the her and the others in the room.
"You are excused from this meeting henceforth, and when it is over, you will have an apology waiting for not only Byakuya-sama, but myself as well. I am tired of you thinking you are the only one in this family that thinks he has an opinion in Makino's livelihood or this family. It ends tonight. Even if I am the one that has to take you before Master Koriyama."
Her voice never rose above a normal speaking tone, nor did it lower to a whisper, but the impact of her words and the point she was pushing to get across was loud and clear to all in the room including her eldest son.
Kin nodded slowly, lifting to his feet. He kept his head lowered, his eyes to the floor as he turned and exited the room.
Saya's hand folded in front of her as she turned and looked at Byakuya and bowed to him. "Please forgive my rudeness."

Byakuya nodded before sighing and lifting a hand to her cheek. He kept his voice quiet, but it still carried in the tense room. “The fault does not rest with you, Saya. There are still signs that he was raised well in spite of what he is choosing to say now. Do not believe otherwise.”
"He needs someone to knock his head off his shoulders from time to time like dad use to when our heads got too big." Kouen sighed as his hand lifted and he combed his fingers through his dark hair. "I miss dad's lectures."
Shirou nodded slowly as he looked to his third older brother. "He was a strong, wise man."
Byakuya lowered his hand and turned to the garden. "In spite of my position, I am not trying to replace him, and I am sure he has his father in him." Byakuya looked to Saya and bowed his head in a wordless apology.
"I'm sorr-"
Byakuya walked into the garden.

Saya turned from the man she adored to the young boy Ichimaru. His arms still wrapped gentle but firmly around her daughter. She smiled warmly at the two as they reminded her of herself and her late husband.
"Sojiro Ichimaru," he lifted his head and looked to his girl's mother, "do not blame yourself for what you witnessed here today. It has nothing to do with you or even Makino. If things were different for Kin, he would send you on your way with his blessing, but as of late, he has been a little more than tolerable."
The boy gave her a weak smile as his eyes looked to the two other brothers in the room with them. Both nodding their heads to what their mother was saying.
"I think I speak for everyone in this room when I say, you have our blessing. I trust that you will care for Makino just as we would."

Kouen looked pointedly at Sojiro a wicked grin across his lips as his mother bowed to the young boy and her daughter, then turned to join Byakuya in the garden. "Now if you mess up we can string you up like father used to do to us and beat you half to death."
Shirou giggled softly as he walked toward his sister and Sojiro. "Don't let him scare you Soji-kun. Father never did that, but he did cane us if we disobeyed or hurt a family member's feelings. So don't make Imouto cry and let us find out about it."
Sojiro's weak smile turned to a blank expression as the two went on to tell him what would happen to him if he messed up.
Finally, Makino started shaking her head as she looked to her two brothers. "Will you stop with the wild stories." She looked to Sojiro. "Father never did any of that, but he was good at lectures if you misbehaved or acted out."
Kouen chuckled. "That he was. One of the best dads I know."

Sojiro gave another weak smile, his mind turning to his family and his father - or fathers. Once again wrestling with the fact that his mother was happier with Seto Tetsuya than she had been with his father. After everything they had been through. “Soji-kun?” “It’s nothing,” he murmured. But it didn’t seem that his words satisfied his girlfriend. “I’m here for you, Sojiro, but I can’t be if you’re going to be quiet.” Sojiro chuckled but stayed silent, not sure if he wanted to discuss this particular subject now. Then, one of the brothers pounded him on the back. “Better be careful. She’s very stubborn.”
The other one giggled. “That she is. Probably the worst of us all.” Sojiro’s smile inched wider as his girlfriend’s eyes sparkled with devious intent. “Is that really true?” The rest of the night passed in relative peace with Sojiro being introduced to the two brothers and the all three of them working together to get details to his complicated mood. Against his will, Sojiro found himself relaxing and starting to finally unwind from the rough day. It was the end of the first day. Closer to the day Aizen would strike out at the people he cared for. But also a day he felt better about everything around him.

"Dinner with His Princess": (continued) "Oh you're really going to make this hard, huh?" She laughed. "A drink sounds nice, but maybe tea this time. As free spirited as I am, I'd rather not lose my mind and embarrass myself. Plus I want to remember this evening." She sat down next to him on the couch and moved even closer, hanging on his arm. "Maybe next time we can break out the alcohol." Kin chuckled and lifted a hand as the servant nodded and left the room. "I would not allow you get drunk I want you clear headed as well. This is our first official date after all." "True," she smirked. "But something tells me I can't be trusted with even weak alcohol tonight. Maybe with dinner we can have a bit of sake though."

"If that is what you wish." He then turned as the servant sat the try of cups and tea to the table before them. She pored the first two cups from them then stood before them and bowed deeply.
"I was told to inform you that dinner should be ready in ten minutes. I will retrieve you when the cook confirms this."
"Thank you, Koko, but you can return back to mother. We will be fine."
Koko shook her head. "Your mother ask me to do this for the two of you. So I am here until after dinner is served."
Kin smiled warmly shaking his head. "That mother of mine." He looked to Koko again. "Thank you then, Koko." He watched her as she turned and left them to their own.

"What is for dinner anyway?" Suigetsu asked as she blew on her tea then sipped it. Suddenly the thought occurred to her that maybe that was a bad thing to ask right off the bat. She covered her mouth. "S-sorry. That was rude. Never mind. I'd rather be surprised."
She tried to think of something else to make conversation with, but she found her mind coming up empty. Now that she had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Kin in the way she always wanted to, she couldn't think of anything to say.
"I guess... I guess I'm bad at this. I don't know anything about dating, let alone courting. All I know how to do is be obnoxious and rude," she clenched her teacup, but not hard enough to break it. "I can look the part all I want, but I'll never truly know how to honor the family that adopted me in the way that everyone expects."

He placed his fingertips under her chin and turned her to look at him as he kissed her forehead gently. "I wouldn't want you any other way, Suigetsu. The person you are right now is the person I fell in love with. Not some stuck up over zealous female. I can talk to you. I can spar with you, and you can break a nail and not cry over it. That's what I want. Not a push over, but someone that pushes back."

Suigetsu had to laugh at that. "I got the guy simply by sucking at being a girl. How ironic is that?" She sipped her tea and smiled up at him. "But I'm glad you like me the way I am instead of wanting me to change. And it's also ironic that one of the things I love about you is how you always seem to have your life together, even when you don't. You're nearly always calm and composed. I don't feel so out of place or out of my mind over trying to fulfill the role my father gave me. We have such different ruling strategies, yet both of our ways work to some degree and also don't work to some degree. I always feel balanced when I'm with you."
She set her teacup down on the table in front of them, then took his hand. "Also, it makes me really happy that you feel you can be yourself around me and talk to me normally. And you're the same with me. I don't have to watch my mouth around you because you understand that's just not me. You get that my manner of speaking and carrying myself isn't meant to be disrespectful. When I get fed up with the people around me who still expect me to act a certain way, I always have you to just let it out to without being judged. Of course I have my parents and my brother and sister, but it's just not the same as with you."
She leaned forward and laid her head on his chest. "I don't think I can ever thank you enough for that."

He set his teacup to the table and wrapped his arms around her pulling her into him. "Its amazing how we helped one another out so much and we did not even realize it. Best of friends secretly in love. Well... one of us was able to keep it a secret."
He chuckled lightly as Suigetsu smacked his leg. "Sorry~ but the wall you tried to hide them behind was very transparent. Even my mother and father could see it."

"Even so," Suigetsu smiled and wrapped her arms around his torso, holding him close. "I'd rather you know how much I love you. That way you'll never ever doubt that I do, and no one will ever be able to say that I'm playing you for a fool. I used to be ashamed of it because I thought it would reflect badly on you and my family, but now I'm not. I'm not ashamed to say that I love you, and I'll do everything I possibly can to be the kind of woman you'd be proud to call yours."

He kissed the top of her head and smiled warmly. "Just remain yourself. That is all I ask from you. You know the grind when in the public eyes or standing before the elders." He tightened his hold around her.
"As long as you are the woman I fell in love with as a boy when we are with family and behind closed doors. You will make me the happiest man in this realm." He chuckled lightly. "Even happier than Kuchiki is with my mother."
