Yumiko spun around to face him. “Did you say Szayel altered….” She looked to the direction her friend had taken again and then looked back to Aizen. “Did you have change her at all? Wasn’t it enough that you took her away from her fam-” She turned around again, looking to the floor, but couldn’t stop. “She wasn’t a threat to you…”

Aizen lifted her head making her look to him, "On the contrary. If they oppose me they are a threat. It was best to remove her memories of family, friends and lovers. With that being done she will be more content in her life here as a servant to you and myself."
He cupped Yumiko's cheek, "Do not worry, Hime no harm will come to her as long as she is obedient." He lifted her head higher to make sure she was looking at him. "Which means if you wish to keep it that way. Then there will be no trips down memory lane with her." His voice serious and demanding with her.

“Aizen…” Yumiko murmured. She lowered her eyes, meeting his eyes again when his hold tightened on her. “I understand, Sousuke. I know the pain of the headaches that would occur if I tried to change it from my own experience. But…” she looked to Yuzu again. “By stripping her of everything, you left her alone. That can be as cruel as any harm that could have come to her. So, I apologize, but I still feel sorry for her.”

"To her that is all she knows. She has never known the warmth of a touch, a friend, or a lover. Its has been and will always be only her." He released Yumiko taking hold of her hand once more.
Turning again he started their path toward the table once more, "If she befriends you or even Kitten she will be distant but polite since solitary existence is all she has will have known." He pulled the chair for his lady fair gesturing for her to take a seat.
"No one can be happy that way for long," Yumiko murmured, sitting down.
"If that is all one knows. That is all one needs. At least until shown the the other side and they get their first taste of it. Then it depends on the individual and what they truly want from life. Let's take Kitten for example." He pushed in her chair walking around the table to take a seat himself. He pulled his chair and sat across from her. "All she knew was the kindness of the light, but darkness dwell in her heart causing turmoil within her. Once she was given the chance to savor the darkness she realized where she truly belonged." He folded his hands in front of him letting them rest against his chin as he looked at her.
"Now she is happy. She is exploring new territories, new people and experiencing things she would have never been able to experience. Sure it came with limitations and she even had to cut ties with a few, but if she would have remained on her current path she would have never truly been happy in her life. She would have had regrets and I am sure she would have died bitter against the ones that held her back. So in reality she is much better off here than where she was formerly."

Yumiko nodded quietly but as Yuzu came out with a soup for her, she shook her head once again. “I’m sorry, Sousuke, but you’re wrong.” Yuzu paused. Yumiko smiled at her and she walked away. Yumiko felt a pang in her stomach. “Kita and Yuzu are not the same. Kita’s life, even now, evolves around her family AND friends. And those ties…. they did disguise the dark wish she wanted. Yuzu…” Yumiko fell silent as the she entered with soup for her lover and then left, “she did everything for family, Sousuke. There wasn’t anything hidden by that lifestyle. Taking that away…” Yumiko dipped her spoon in the soup, “… it will eat away at her.”

Aizen looked to the woman sitting in front of him. "There is nothing for her to miss, Hime. What are you not understanding?" Aizen sat back in his chair and watched as Yuzu walked back out with a basket of bread.
"Ask her, Hime. There is no one she remembers. Not even me. To her, we just met moments ago."

“Then why…” Yumiko stopped as Yuzu stopped by her.
“What is troubling you, my lady?” her friend asked.
Yumiko glanced to her lover and then back to her old friend. “Do you know…” she paused, “do you remember Kita?” she whispered.
Yuzu tilted her head. “I apologize, my lady, is there someone I am supposed to know?”
Yumiko shook her head. “It’s nothing. Do you- I’m sorry. Please go about you duties.”
Yuzu nodded and left.
Yumiko looked to Aizen. “She has forgotten.” She lifted her spoon again, taking a sip of the soup. She closed her eyes, keeping another tear in her eye, and then spoke again. “You’re right. It is better than to be caught by one of the Espada.”

Aizen looked across the table at Yumiko. "Its good to see you understand now, but your tears leave me doubting your resolve. Tell me again Hime, where is it you wish to be?"
He lifted from his chair dropping his napkin over the top of his bowl. "I will allow you to finish your meal before you give me an answer. At that point I will determine what to do with you." He left the left the room going to the Throne room. Leaving her to think.

“Sousuke…” Yumiko fell silent as her lover left her, walking out to the throne room. She lowered her head, hands folding before her. Resisting the urge to follow after him and think as ordered. A couple more tears found their way down her cheeks. She brushed them away angrily. It was hard to watch him walk away from her. Too hard. She needed to ask her questions. As Yuzu walked out again with the wine, Yumiko offered her a small smile. “Please put that back. I will eat this soup and bring Aizen back here.” Yuzu nodded and left her again. Yumiko focused on letting the creamy onion soup calm her mind. Moved

"Seeking a Path":Yumiko lay against the pillows of the bed, watching the balcony, as the desert current filled the curtains and the moonlight’s streamed further across the gleaming marble floor, when a knock broke her from her reverie. She pulled the sheet up, covering her chest. “Come in,” she called out. Yuzu entered, bowed and approached her Mistress’ side, placing a bag and water bottle on the bedside table. “As you requested last night, I made rice rolls and tea for your meal.” She paused. “Are you sure that is all you will want?”
Yumiko nodded. “For now. A heavier meal will distract me.” When Yuzu remained where she stood, Yumiko smiled lightly at her. “I will eat more afterwards. I promise.” Yuzu smiled in turn and bowed again. “I apologize for second guessing your decision, my Lady, but I believe you would be disappointed if you didn’t have any strength for the evening.”
Yumiko blushed and waved a hand. “It’s fine, Yuzu.” Over the last few days, Yumiko had slowly started to become accustomed to Yuzu’s presence and her place as her servant. And at first, the acceptance worried her. But she pushed that feeling down. if she had lived as a noble, she would have at least one. Yet that wasn’t the only reason. What really calmed her disquiet on the matter was something else. Twice, at night, if Yumiko had wanted a drink in the evening, she had found Yuzu reading by lamplight in the main room. She seemed… happy. Even cut off from all she had known. It was as Sousuke had told her. Her past didn’t matter. Wrapping the sheet around herself, Yumiko stood from the bed. Moved

"Seeking a Path": (continued) As they entered the room, the soothing scent of cream, potatoes, sautéed onions and peppers filled the air around them with the aroma of the herbs rosemary and basil. The table in front of the couch had been set with plates, glasses, and a pitcher of water. Yuzu exited the kitchen and bowed. "I apologize for the wait, but the chowder will be a few minutes longer. Please sit and refresh yourselves." She looked to Yumiko. "You especially, my Lady. You look a little pale and you have been gone for a while."
Yumiko smiled. "I will." Yuzu turned around. "New clothes are on the bed for you as well."

Yumiko nodded. “Thank you, Yuzu.” She reached for the pitcher, pouring herself a glass and taking a big drink. She sighed in relief and sat on couch, sipping again. As she sat down, Sousuke joined her. Setting the half-empty glass aside, Yumiko stood again. “I will be back after I get cleaned up. I won’t be long.”
Yumiko returned ten minutes later in a red and blue kimono to see Yuzu setting down a plate of sandwiches next to a creamy potato and corn chowder.
"It looks wonderful, Yuzu."

Aizen looked up from his food with a nod. "Impressive, Yuzu. I am sure it taste as good as it looks."
Yuzu bowed to them both once more, "Will there be anything else, Master Aizen?"
He looked over the table once more. "I think we have everything, Yuzu. You are dismissed. If we need anything we will call for you."

Yumiko watched her leave and then turned to her lover, taking his hand to sit next to him. "What did you want to talk about?" she asked.
"It is about Kita." He looked into her eyes. "Sumi has left her, taking all of Ichimaru's memories of her and his love. I am sure the plans we have talked of will not settle well with you." He squeezed her hand and released it. "You are not to tend to her needs at all. Not even to talk to her unless Vale or I are present." He picked up his tea cup taking a sip. "The same goes for Ichimaru. Treat him as you would Yuzu. Do not try to help his memories return. In doing so you will only cause them more pain."
Yumiko looked into her glass of water as her heart twisted. "It doesn't matter what I would want," she murmured. "Right now, Kita wouldn't want my assistance anyways. Even more so if the goddess has separated her from Ichimaru. She'll probably hate me all the more if I tried to help her. I..." she paused, lowering her head further, taking "I don't want that," she admitted, taking a breath and trying to keep the tears at bay.

Aizen lifted her head looking at her as he pressed his lips to her forehead, pulling back he smiled warmly at her. "She will be over what happened in time. Remember it heals all wounds."
Yumiko nodded. "Sometimes. And sometimes... time makes it worse first." She reached for a sandwich. "What will happen to that family, Sousuke? Even if I am not allowed to speak to them, can I ask that?"
Aizen shook his head. "They will learn to live in Las Noches like the rest. This family as a unit is a danger. The only way they will live is to be apart." He looked to Yumiko. "They will be passing ships in the night. They will know the other is there so stay clear so not to collide. That is the way it must be for them."
Yumiko lowered her sandwich to her plate. "That's cruel."
"It's a fact of life here in Las Noches, Hime. The weak always lose out to the strong in the end." He patted her leg closest to him. "Don't think on it too much, Yumiko. It is like with Yuzu. It's better to be alone than heartbroken and alone."
