Ichigo chuckled. “And I am sure that they don’t mind when it means they get to show their affection in a place like this. Besides, Sojiro has always been a hugging beast. Why would that change a few months later? I mean he was the most affect-”
He paused as a door opened and turned around fully to face the figure that had emerged with her head down. “Eve,” he whispered.

Evita looked up … and turned around. She’d come out for food, not this.
“Wait, Vita,” Ichigo called out, maneuvering past the furniture. She’d stopped at the threshold. And he stopped at embracing her. He slowly lowered his arms. She’d always been both repelled and drawn in by emotions. It was probably worse after… “I missed you,” he whispered.
Evita didn't know how to respond to that. To him. Even if she liked the name he'd given her, she didn't know how she was supposed to react. Though there was one thing they shared. She hunched her shoulders. "Mom's gone."

The rest of Ichigo's bravado deflated at those two simple, blunt words. He reached for his girl, halted, and sighed deeply. He didn't want to scare her off. And she was scared enough. "I know," he whispered. He set a hand on the wall next to her doorway, leaning on it as the weight of his responsibilities and what it cost him pressed against him on all sides. "I'm sorry."
"You weren't there to protect her," Evita continued, her voice smooth, calculated. As if aloof.
Ichigo knew differently. She was hiding.
"I know," he continued.
Evita finally turned around, her head lowered, a huddled form with her head lowered. "You didn't protect me."
Ichigo's hand fisted against the wall. "I know."
"Why?"
Ichigo shut his eyes. There was nothing to do but answer honestly.
"I wasn't here."
"Why?"
"Because I lost."

A teacup Aizen had left behind shattered at the same time as Evita turned around to face her former father, her face like a mask but eyes whirling. “It hurt,” she muttered, voicing her weakness. “It. Still. Does.”
“It hurts me too,” Ichigo whispered.
Evita looked away and wrapped her arms around herself. “It happened so fast.” Her head buzzed.
“I’m sorry.”
Evita closed her eyes. “I couldn’t, I mean wouldn’t, I-” She started to tremble ... and leaned against the doorway. She let the words come. “It was too late. For anything.”
A tear fell down her still face. “It’s my fault.”

“No,” Ichigo stated in a soft, firm tone.
It was the same tone he used to keep her calm when she was angry or upset after being caught doing something at the park back home. Especially when she made a couple break apart because of a falling branch or water flying or something that took more brainpower to explain. He knelt down by her.
“It’s not your fauilt, Eve. Your mother - HI- Orihime,” he breathed, “would never smile on us if we believed that. If we believed that you - that a quiet girl that resented something about the world - deserved to lose her mother and get hurt herself. When she’s crying now.”
“I am not!” she snapped.
“You are,” Ichigo continued. “You’re just good at hiding them.” Evita fell silent. "No one blames you, Evita."

Evita nodded and then punched him in the face. “I’m going back to my room now. I don’t want food,” she snapped. Spinning around, she paused. “I’m not crying anymore either.” The door slammed shut in Ichigo’s face.
Silence filtered through the room.
And then a door locked. Someone slid down the door to the floor to sit.

Ichigo stood up, a crooked smile overtaking his face. "I don't know if I helped or not, but," he lifted a hand to his blackening eye, "she's reminding me of Karin now, you know." A tear slid down his cheek. He ducked his head to wipe it away. "Thanks.... Kita. I owe you one."

Kita walked up to him patting his back and rubbing it softly. "I don't know if I want to be thanked for your heart breaking." She rested her head to his shoulder. "I wish I were never born or at least blessed with the Seraph. If this is anyone's fault, its mine. Because of my stupid beliefs about not killing. I got us all in one hell of a mess. If I would have just killed Aizen in the beginning none of us would be here today."
She lifted her head from his shoulder shaking it slightly as Ichigo was about to speak up. "No, don't even say it. You know its the truth. I have and had the powers to stop him, but I didn't. No one else could do it. So this mess lays firmly on my shoulders. That's why I have to end this this time as soon as the time is right and I know everyone will be safe." Ichigo shook his head. “It’s not just your fault. I don’t care how many times you say it is. It’s not.” He paused and looked at the door Evita had retreated to. “Kisuke and I defeated him the first time. We were the first who chose not to kill him. This… is as much as our fault as anyone else’s.” He looked at Kita with the same wavering crooked smile. “You would have been safe if we had.” Kita returned his smile and took his hand in hers giving it a firm squeeze. "Then we do this together. Me, you and Kisuke. We kill this Bastard and go home as soon as Kisuke give the word."
Ichigo smiled at her with a nod as they both walked toward the door of the room. With a final glance back at Evita's door and toward the kitchen, Ichigo closed the door behind them and they were gone.Moved

"Heritage": Evita stood on the threshold of her rooms, watching Yuzu tidy the living room, fluffing pillows and returning books to their shelves while humming a familiar song. The same song her mother would sing, off-key, when she would clean up the living room. Nothing in the room was quaking or lifting. And her bands were still on her elbows. Hands clenching, she stepped forwards.
Yuzu looked up. “Oh, Lady Evita, you’re awake. Do you want breakfast? Or something lighter?”
“No, I ate what you brought before,” Evita snapped. “I’m not hungry.”
As Yuzu smiled and turned away, Evita fought off a frown. Usually, a bad attitude would get a reaction from the sunny blonde. But she didn’t anymore. But she still had her cooking.
Shaking her head, Evita strode past. Hesitated at the door that led to the throne room. And pushed past.

"Phase IV":Vale opened the door to Aizen's chambers, stepping out and closing the door behind him. He walked silently toward the bed where Yumiko was resting. Kneeling beside the bed, Vale smiled gently at the woman sleeping silently. "Hello, love..." Vale chuckled to himself, taking Yumiko' hand in his. "I need you to wake up..." he squeezed her hand gently. "Wake up, love."

Yumiko's head shifted, humming as her free hand curled around the pillow, and blinked at him. She raised her head. “Vale?” she asked. She sat up, covering herself with a sheet. “What - what are you doing? I mean - after all this time?”
"Does that really matter? I'm here, now." Vale hung his head with a sigh. "I can leave if you wish. "
Yumiko tucked the sheet around her body. "I- I'd like to get dressed."
Vale chuckled. "What does it matter if I see you in your birthday suit again? I've seen it so many times."
Yumiko sighed. "It just does now," she murmured. She threw her legs over the bed and rose.

Vale smiled, rising with her. "I won't be long, love. I promise. I just wanted to see you." As Vale took Yumiko's hand in his once more, the god appeared. Vale glanced over his shoulder, looking to the god. "It's happened." said the god of fire."What's happened?" questioned Yumiko, pulling her hand from Vale's. Smiling, Vale placed a hand around her waist and pulled her close to him. "Exactly what needed to have happened." Vale pressed his lips against Yumiko's lip, pulling her into a long kiss. "I have missed you, love. And, I'm sorry." Before she could question him further, Vale pulled a syringe from his obi and stuck Yumiko in the thigh with it. "It's Teruo's poison. It won't kill you. But, it will give you vivid nightmares...Only when you're with him, though." Vale pushed Yumiko to the bed and turned to face Alister. "You know what to do next. Do it. When it is done, you know where to find me." The god nodded and faded from the room, as Vale walked toward the doors of Aizen's chamber. "Farewell, love." he shouted out, slamming the door behind him.

"Magnets Locked in Confrontation": Yumiko lifted her fork filled with salad halfway and then set it down, standing. "I am sorry, Yuzu," she murmured. "I am not very hungry right now." Yuzu turned around with a new pitcher of water. "But my lady, you didn't eat much for breakfast either. Are you sick? Is the food not to your liking?" She set her burden down and rushed over when Yumiko reached for the haori she had laid over the back of the chair. "Did Master Tervaden do-"
" I will tell Sousuke about Vale's treachery when I am ready," Yumiko snapped, blue-violet eyes flashing. Yuzu's head ducked. Yumiko looked away and set her haori over her dark blue kimono, running her hand over the sheer black silk patterned with red, green, and orange swirling petals. It reminded her of fireworks. "It's nothing to do with you, Yuzu. Please stay quiet about it." Yuzu remained silent.
"If I feel better when I return, I will eat more then." Yuzu finally smiled. "That would worry me less. You need your strength with all your training and when a certain wonderful event happens."
Yumiko's faint smile faded. Her hand clenched. Taking Mizue no Kagami from where she had set her down, she strolled to the door and shunpo'ed out. She was tired of being manipulated by that man. And his confusing feelings. She was going to demand answers from him. One way or another. Moved

"The King and His Queen": (continued)
Aizen sat Kita down on the couch as he stood over her looking down at her. She lowered her eyes and looked to her folded hands in her lap. "Don't. You caused this." She looked back up to him, "You had three days to tell her what was going on and you did nothing. I blame you for my actions."
Aizen chuckled as he turned away from the two women. "We will see if Tervaden shares your thoughts and feelings on this." He disappeared into the kitchen.
Once he was gone Kita looked to Yumiko who was standing by the coffee table in front of her. "I am sorry. I thought he would tell you what Vale proposed the other day. If I had known this was going down like this I would have never came with him today."

Yumiko’s eyes turned from following her lover to her friend at her words. She nodded. “I know you wouldn’t,” she murmured. She walked over to Kita’s side of the couch and set one hand on the back of it, her other hand taking her friends’ again. Her eyes watered at the sight of the cuffs and looked away. She closed her eyes, trying to calm her sporadic heart spasms. “What is it that you get for this?” she asked, tone neutral.
