Yumiko's head spun to him away from Vale at that. "What do you mean, espada?" she asked.

"Time will tell, Soul Reaper." Koga extended his arm leading out of the garden. "Only time will tell."
"I don't have time for you, your riddles or your fuckery! Take us to the Soul Society, now!" shouted Vale.
Koga nodded. "To the Twelfth Division, then."

"Regaining Equilibrium":Vale walked out onto the lake inside of Szayel's Garden, Chinmoku laying out a path for him. He had regained his precision and control. His ferocity. His desire to destroy anything...everything. He tucked a pink rose into the folds of his obi, and sat in a meditative position. He placed his hilt across his lap, closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. Chinmoku swirled around him gently, forming a sphere around Vale. It slowly sank until it rested on the bottom of the lake. "It's been some time, Vale." A child's voice echoed in the darkness. The faint sound of his wings fluttering followed. "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"As you said, it's been some time." Vale replied. "A fully reformed blade deserves a decent conversation, I think." "Now, you wish to speak to me? I thought you favored standing on your own."
"And, how well did that work out? I reached too far. And, nearly lost you again." The fluttering of Chinmoku's wings grew louder causing a slight breeze. "I understand you being angry. And-" "No you don't understand! You placed my life in jeopardy. Just to satisfy your need to be a thick rampaging fool! You understand nothing, Vale! Nothing!" The sphere began to gently rock against the motion of the water surrounding the sphere. "You're a fool! You care nothing for anyone outside of yourself. Not even me."
Vale remained silent as the sphere continued to rock gently in the water. Thick rampaging fool. Was Chinmoku right? Vale had spent most of his life defining himself as someone who did what he could, simply because he could. And, until the moment of first losing Chinmoku, he did what he wanted with nor fear of the consequences. But, that wasn't true. It couldn't be true. He cared for Chinmoku. He cared enough to do what it took to regain Chinmoku's power twice now. "That's not true. And, you know it!"
"You accuse me of lying?" The sphere began to shake violently. "How dare you! I am as much apart of you, as you are of me.What do I gain from lying to you?" The sphere began to crack and water poured in. Vale attempted to use Chinmoku's power to seal the sphere before it filled. But, Chinmoku wouldn't allow it. "No! If you care nothing for anyone else, then I will care nothing for you!"
"You'll let me die?" shouted Vale, taking in what little air remained inside the filling sphere. "I will let you die!" The sphere collapsed completely, leaving Vale struggling at the bottom of the lake. He tightened his grip on the hilt of Chinmoku as his cloud swirled madly, mucking the water. Vale fought against the fury of Chinmoku as long as could, before surrender clouded his eyes. He released the hilt of Chinmoku as his body gave to the current of the water.

"Regaining Equilibrium": (continue)Vale closed his eyes, as he let himself drift. This was the end. His end. You won’t let me die. You’ll die. You can’t let me...Vale coughed released what little air he had remaining in his lungs. This is it… “Death…” Chinmoku swirled madly before taking the form of a six winged figure. Chinmoku grew until its wings folded beneath the canopy of the garden. “It’s too easy!” He thrust his hand into the water grabbing Vale and pulled him from the water. Vale coughed up water as Chinmoku tightened his grasp around him. “Chinmoku!” screamed Vale. Chinmoku ignored his cries, he grasp only tightening. “If...If I die...You die…” “My death would be considered an honor if ensures no one else has to deal with you!” Chinmoku threw Vale back into the lake with such a force, it emptied the lake. Vale rolled over onto his side, blood dripped from his nose and mouth. “Please...stop…” His body was heavy as he struggled to move. “Please…” He turned his head slightly to the left. His hilt. He reached for it, picking it up. “Please…” Tears filled his eyes as he stood. He could not lose. He would not lose. Not without fighting back. “Please? Please?! Are you begging for mercy, Vale? Or, are you begging for more?” Chinmoku brought back his arm, preparing to attack. Vale raised the hilt above his head. Chinmoku brought his heavy fist down on top of Vale, his hand shattering and dispersing on contact with his hilt. Chinmoku flailed an stumbled back, his other arm swinging and slamming into the white canopy shattering it. Vale remained still as a portion of his blade reformed and the illusion of the garden disappeared. Chinmoku looked down at Vale. “What is this? Have you decided to die with dignity?” Vale shook his head. “I will not die, today. You won’t kill me.” “Won’t I?”Vale looked down at the worn rose still tucked into his obi. “No. You won’t.” His face twisted in pain. “You’re angry. And, with good reason, ok.” Vale lowered his head as he let his hands fall to his sides. “At least...At least make this a fair fight.” Chinmoku shifted in form and began to swirl around Vale. He shifted again taking a form Vale hadn’t seen since the last time his blade was whole - A tall, six winged man with long black hair. Chinmoku’s true form. “If you survive this, Vale…”

"Regaining Equilibrium": (continue)Vale look as a blade formed in Chinmoku’s hand. Chinmoku's eyes were cold and focused. His aim was to kill Vale. “What type of shit is this?” Vale looked up through the shattered canopy and place his hand over his obi where the rose was tucked away. “Do your worst.” He looked back to Chinmoku, but he was gone. Vale grasped the hilt of his blade and began to search for Chinmoku, when a wind began to blow throughout what was the garden. “...No…” He looked up again, to see Chinmoku beneath a raging vortex outside of the shattered canopy. “...Kurio ana...Chinmoku! You’re going to bring down the whole damn place!” Chinmoku continue to rage on. “Damn it, you fucking idiot! Fine!” Vale’s arm twitched, as he used a small portion of Chinmoku’s cloud to propel him towards the vortex. Chinmoku shunpo'd, disappearing from his view. He reappeared in front of Vale, swinging his blade. Vale shunpo'd, dodging the attack and appearing behind Chinmoku. He spun into a kick, striking Chinmoku's raised arm. With the same arm, Chinmoku grabbed Vale's leg. " Admit it, Vale. You care for no one." Chinmoku spun, throwing Vale towards the violent vortex swirling above. Chinmoku's arm twitched, changing the gravitational pull of the vortex. Vale fought hard against the change in gravity, as it pulled him closer. " Admit it, you fool! Does your life really mean so little to you?" Vale continued to fight against the pull of the vortex in silence. Chinmoku narrowed his eyes. " So be it." He shunpo'd over to Vale, and tore into Vale until the tsuba was flush with Vale's body. Vale slumped over in Chinmoku's arms, as his blood poured over Chinmoku's hand. "Yumiko..." " Hm...?" "You...you said...I didn't care...about anyone..." Every word Vale spoke brought pain and tears. "That's a lie..." " You care for her? When she cares nothing for you?" "I am...forever in her debt...She helped me get you back..." " And, what was your promise to her? Freedom? Power? Your gratitude?" Chinmoku laughed. " There is no space in your heart for anything else...What makes her so special to you?" Vale smiled weakly, as Chinmoku slowly pushed him from his blade. "I...I don't know...But, I care..." Vale stood erect, his hand over his wound. "I...care..." He looked down, pulling the rose from his obi. His blood smeared on the worn and wilted petals. "Be a thorn, Rose." Chinmoku's vortex slowly calmed and disappeared, as Chinmoku caught Vale as he began to fall. " What does she mean to you, Vale? You do not know if she feels the same for you. So, what can she mean to you?" "She...means...enough..." Chinmoku gently rested Vale against a tree. He looked at Vale, perplexed. " Enough?" Vale nodded and looked at the rose still in his hand. He frowned and looked back to Chinmoku. "Enough..." -END RP- "Official Pencil Pusher":

"Garden Shadows":Vale followed Yumiko into Szayel's Garden, gently pulling his jacket from her shoulders. She wrapped her arms around her as if still taken by the cold. "The fifth tower's out of commission. So, I need you stay here for awhile." He looked around at the fully regenerated garden and shook his head. "It's peaceful enough for you, I think." He leaned against at tree near the entrance, as Yumiko traveled deeper into the garden.

Vale had picked a good place, she had to admit. Now that her room had been crushed, this was the only other place she could call a refuge. Wandering away from the roses, she sat down by the lake where she had chosen to help Vale with recovering his zanpakuto and had –for a short time – returned home. She sighed and pulled two long daisies out of a group and began to braid them into a crown. It was as close to peace as she could get here.

Vale smiled slightly as he watched from his place by the door. He looked away from her for a moment. "I know you don't want to be here, Rose. But, you have to make do with what you have." Slowly, he walked towards her as he slipped on his jacket. It snagged on Mizue. Mizue. He pulled Yumiko's zanpakuto from his obi. "I need you to trust me, Yumiko. I need to keep Mizue on me. Alright?"

Yumiko’s hands halted for a moment before resuming. “I understand,” she said, voice neutral. She paused again and looked over to him. “Before, you asked for another chance.” She hesitated and then lowered her head, tucking a lock behind her ear. “I will give it to you.” She wrapped the stems around each other twice and then reached for a long stalk of grass, threading it in between the two.

Vale sat down next to her, placing Mizue between them. "Thank you?" he asked looking out over the water. He took a meditative position and closed his eyes. "What's on your mind? You're too quiet."

Yumiko sighed. “I’m usually quiet, but you’re right. There’s a lot on my mind.”Will anything be different, such as my freedom, this time? Did Kita succeed in escaping? Did we endanger Ke-Kisuke more by hiding with his friends?” She reached the end of her stalk of grass and set the half-finished crown on her lap. “What it was like to reflect an imperfect mirror of a zanpakuto like Kyoka Suigetsu.”

Vale looked to her with questioning eyes. Then, having dug deep in his pockets, pulled out a small button. "Pretend it's a penny." He fell back into the grass, lacing his fingers together behind his head. "What was it like?"

Yumiko looked at the button, turning it over in her hand and feeling the edges, wondering if she wanted to answer or stay silent on the matter. “It was …. overwhelming,” she murmured at last. “I had the power to bend anything I wanted to around me, not in reality, but in the perception of someone else.” She closed her hand around the button. “And it was scary. For the first time since I wielded a small portion of Yamamoto’s fire, I understood why I was locked up. That kind of power….. is dangerous.”

"Only if you can't control it." replied Vale. He pulled up a few blades of grass and tossed them away. "Train to gain the strength you need to be more precise. More lethal. A threat." Vale picked up a small pebble and gently tossed it at her. He watched as it bounced off of her shoulder. "The man intends to use you. But, so what? If you become stronger, why not let him train you until you can stand on your own? No one likes a wilted rose."
"No one likes a thorny one, either." she retorted.
Vale tossed another pebble at her. "No. But, they are less likely to try and touch it."

Yumiko caught it in her hand, expression guarded as she considered Vale’s words, recalling Aizen’s taunt that night she was afraid for Nanao. She looked at the pebble in her hand and to Mizue no Kagami on the ground beside them.
“He won’t let me go,” she whispered, half to herself.
I have too much power for that.
But could she change the battlefield enough to change some of the stakes? Was it too much of a risk?
“Play the game,” another voice whispered in her head.
She closed her hand over the rock then tossed it into the lake, watching the ripples expand outwards. She didn’t know. She picked up another and tossed it in as well, watching the two ripples mix, overlay, and disappear into each other. It wasn’t a choice she could dismiss either.
