Yumiko wrapped her arms around herself and considered. Szayel probably wouldn’t do anything to her … without Aizen’s orders. And Vale …. she was still confused about him. She looked at the finally calming lake. At least she was warming up, giving her an idea. She hesitated for a moment and then a bolt of Byakurai shook Vale. Before he could recover, she leapt forward and tripped him.
"But I do," she said as he lay there on the ground with a glimmer of a smile. Then she sneezed.

"Well...How about that." he said rising to his feet. "The rose actually does have thorns. And, germs." Vale crawled backwards until he backed into a tree. "Stay over there. I don't want your germs." he said with a smile. His smiled quickly faded as he looked to the entrance of the garden. He quickly grabbed Mizue and stood. "I need to go..." He vanished from the garden before she could respond.

Yumiko frowned, reminded yet again where she was and who he served. That it was only one part of him that was kind… or appeared kind. She sighed and knelt down, picking up the rose he’d left behind. “You tell me you might want it and then you leave it behind,” she murmured to herself. “What is it that you want… from all this? From serving Aizen? From…. me?” She set the rose down in a protected crook of the tree and retrieved the half-finished crown of daisies, setting it down around the wilted rose. Standing again, she looked down at the small memento. “You were angry then…. why did you keep it?” Another sneeze broke through her worries and thoughts, making Yumiko give in. She retreated to Szayel’s lab for some tea, not wanting to catch a cold. To be caught weak here… anymore than she already was.

"Tea for Three?": (continue)Vale stopped walking. "What would that do for you? You're here. Remembering your time in the Soul Society will do you no good. Your place is here. With Aizen. With me. Don't bring yourself more heartache than you need." He adjusted the back of his jacket, purposefully allowing Mizue to show. He continued walking. "Why do you torment yourself, Yumi?"

Yumiko’s faint smile faltered but didn’t disappear. “Perhaps it is my fate now, but Aizen’s reign won’t last forever,” she murmured. “Kita doesn’t lie and she has a goddess on her side.” She continued to walk forward, slipping past Vale and walking back into the garden. “Hoping that the cages around me will fade away is not a torment,” she stated quietly but firmly. “It gives me strength." She turned back to Vale. "And the memories are a part of that hope."

Vale quickened his pace, catching up with Yumiko. "No. It isn't torment. But, I do think you're ok here. Maybe not happy. But, ok." He walked to the edge of the lake and frowned. He looked around the ground of the garden then to Yumiko. "What did you do to my rose?"

Yumiko couldn't dispute Vale's words. Although Kita hated nearly every moment here, Yumiko could not do the same. At least not yet. She chuckled quietly at Vale's question and walked over to the tree and the nook of roots. "I thought it was safer there than out in the open."

Vale narrowed his eyes and walked over. He sat on ground and leaned against the trunk of tree. "What? He looked up at her with a frown. "Do you want me to say thank you?" He raised his hand and waited for her to give him the rose. Yumiko chuckled again and knelt down to retrieve the small rose, but she withheld it, twirling it in her hand and considering something.
Vale let his hand fall to the ground. "Well? Are you going to give me my rose...Rose?"

Yumiko blushed at the endearment before she could stop herself. “I suppose I will,” she said, handing it over and leaning against the tree as she stood. “Why did you keep it? You were angry a the time that rose was picked?”

"I am always angry, Yumiko." he replied picking at the dry blood stained petals of the rose. "Even now, if you believe it. Grrr...." he looked up and winked at her. "Why does my keeping it interest you?"

Yumiko blushed again and turned her head aside. “I was curious,” she whispered. “That’s all.” She wrapped her arms around herself, reminding herself to cautious. She needed to be more careful. Perhaps she would feel less vulnerable if she had Mizue back.
“Is there a reason you have to keep Mizue still?” she asked.

"Oh!" He pulled Mizue from his obi. He held it up, as if he were going to hand it to her. "Because..." He placed Mizue over his lap and hung his head. "You will do something stupid, if I give this back to you. Like...Fight back."

Yumiko shook her head. “Fighting serves no purpose for me at this moment, Vale. You may be tired from your match with Ichimaru, but Chinmoku is still a formidable opponent. And if I fought now, I couldn’t help anyone later.”

"We wouldn't be fighting to injure one another. Well, at least I wouldn't be." He shrugged as he reached over and tugged on her kimono. "Have to keep the Queen as she is, in fine condition. Without a scar or bruise visible. Well..." He rubbed his forehead and tugged on her kimono again. "Sit, Yumi. I don't bite. Unless we're fucking. Then, I might."

Yumiko blushed and hesitated before pulling her sleeve back up, covering her shoulder again. “I would rather you not make me lose this kimono, Vale,” she murmured, taking a seat as requested. "I've already put on one show today. I don't want to put on another."
