Hitsugaya sighed, shaking his head as he gave a small smile. "I don't see why anyone would think of pushing you away for any reason." He reached up and took her hands, planning on lifting them both up, but something had him glued into place. "Besides, I'm used to it. It's better than getting knocked to the floor by Rangiku's humongous chest."

Suzume laughed, having had the same problem with her busty friend. Then she tilted her head. “Would you prefer she tries to drag you along on her shopping trips?” she asked, face all innocent. Hitsugaya groaned audibly, making the girl giggle in joy again. She tilted her head the other way, quiet for a few moments.
“Thank you, Hitsugaya-kun," she murmured. "I don't like crying." |

Hitsugaya shook his head, reaching up to brush her cheek lightly with his fingertips. "Then don't. When you feel like crying, come to me, alright? No more tears. I can't stand it when Momo and Rangiku cry. You're no different."

Suzume nodded then crawled off him, blushing again at having fallen so many times in the last little bit. She bonked her head with the back of her head then dusted off her kimono from the tumble. Looking back at Hitsugaya doing the same with his haori and pants, she patted some debris off his hair. It was surprisingly soft, even if it stuck up all over the place. Not that she minded.
As the wind swept through the open shoot, she threw her arms around herself, looking back at the trap latch. "I think we should close that again, or people are going to complain." |

Hitsugaya looked up at the chute. He leaped up and through the hole and grabbed the handle of the small door, closing it as he dropped back down.
"There," he said as he turned back to Suzume. "You ready to go back to bed or would you rather stay up a bit longer?" |

"I think," Suzume began, setting her hands behind her back, "that I would like to stay up longer. It's too early to know if I will start crying again or not," she admitted, glancing to the side. "When the mood strikes, it stays." Twirling in place, she set a finger below her chin. "I should have brought the chocolate Nanao bought me, but I didn't think ahead that far when the Oni enlisted me."

Hitsugaya laughed and shook his head. He nodded in the direction of his room. "I think I have some Ukitake insisted on giving me. I probably won't eat it anyway." Then he remembered that there was probably a lot more than chocolate. He scrunched his nose. "Then again, you can have everything he gave me."

Suzume chuckled hugging him on the spur of the moment, before wrapping her arms around herself again to ward off some of the cold and walking ahead of her captain. She called out over her shoulder in a bright voice. "What's wrong with Ukitake's candy? It's tasty and it cheers you up. Aren't smiles a good thing?"

The hug was so quick, he didn't even have time to return it, let alone process it. After a minute he just blinked and chuckled. "The problem is he treats me like a little kid with it. I wouldn't mind it if he just dropped off as a gift then went about his way, but he's got to make a spectacle about it. It's embarrassing!" He explained as he followed her.

"But you make such fun faces when it happens," Suzume teased before squeaking and ducking her head. She leaped forward but not fast enough as the ice captain grabbed her shoulder, pulling her back.
"Wait, you've seen it?"
Suzume blushed and then laughed. "I'm sorry, but it's good to see Ukitake make such a happy face when he's so sick and Momo said you look a lot like you used to when you two were young with your frown." She giggled, remembering something else. "Did you really shoot seeds at her in the summer?"

Hitsugaya growled, frowning in embarrassment as he crossed his arms and looked way. "She called me 'Shiro-chan.' I told her I didn't like that nickname! But she insists on calling me that! And she won't ever call me captain!"

Suzume smiled. "Don't be embarrassed. I think it's nice." She bumped her shoulder against his. "It's really nice you had such a cute friendship there when it's so easy to be alone in the Rukon," she said softly. Before he could reply, she started skipping down the hall towards the office, humming a river song from the town as she went.

Where on earth does she get all this energy?
He followed her and her humming all the way to his office, smiling as she skipped along. Every time she turned and smiled at him to see if he was still following he smiled back and laughed. She was really something else, and he was very surprised that he had so much patience for her and her little quirks and faults. In fact, they didn't bother him, so much as exhausted him. He wondered where he got the patience from. Rangiku was just as bubbly, but his patience could run very thin sometimes with her. He hadn't found himself angry Suzume even once since she started helping him out.
Maybe you feel something for her that you don't feel for anyone else? Hyorinmaru rumbled.
Hitsugaya gave a small growl of embarrassment, but the dragon just chuckled in the back of his mind.
He yawned and blinked the sleepiness from his eyes, hoping that he would last long enough without falling asleep until Suzume was ready to try and get some sleep of her own. He hoped for at least a couple more hours before he passed out.
