Vale sighed and rolled his eyes, shoving his hands deep in his pockets. "A little birdy, hm?" Vale turned toward Yumiko then back to Urahara. "What the hell is this, Urahara? I owe you no explanation. What I do in the privacy of my home, is my business." Vale stepped towards Urahara, and looked him in the eyes. "I don't know what the fuck is your problem. But, if you want to make an enemy of me again...You're on the right path..." Vale stepped away.

Kisuke grabbed Vale by the shoulder and spun him back around to face him stepping up into his face. "One wrong move from you. One." Kisuke held up his middle finger. "And what you did to Kyoraku two and a half years ago," he paused dropping his hand, turning around he walked toward the door. "Will seem like a walk in the park when I am done with you."
He exited the room, but not before he turned and tipped his hat to Yumiko once more with a bright smile. "We will see you at dinner, my dear."
The door closed and Kisuke was gone once more.

Vale punched the wall closest to him. "Fuck!" He looked to Yumiko before frantically looking around the room. "Little birdy, hm? Little birdy. Alister!" Chinmoku appeared in the room, in an eruption of flame. Vale picked up his blade and drew it. "You want to watch me Urahara...Kyoraku...I will give you something to watch!"

Yumiko sprang from the couch and grabbed his sword arm, just as Chinmoku started to swirl around the room. “VALE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!”
“Giving them a show,” he growled.
Yumiko tightened her grasp on him. “Why?!” she shouted. “You said you were happy here. This will only jeopardize it.”
Vale shook his head. “How am I supposed to live with these fucks breathing down my neck? Watching. Waiting. Expecting the worse from me? I. Don't. Want this!” He tried to shake her off of him.
She held on, heart hammering in her head. “If you do this, you’re going to be locked away,” Yumiko hissed by his ear. “Calm down now. Please.” She wrapped her arms around him. “I don’t want to lose you, and I will if you don’t stop. He was just protecting me. Please, Vale."

Vale took a deep breath, then dropped his zanpakuto. He hung his head and turned away from her. "I'm sorry, Yumiko." he whispered, closing his eyes in an effort to calm himself. "I'm sorry. They're never going to leave me alone, are they?"
Yumiko kept her arms around him, letting her heartbeat calm down from the scare. "Not for a while, no," she admitted quietly. "You have your memories back. They don't know if you will become the man that hurt so many people again." She paused. "But if they are only watching.... is it too much to ask to ignore them? To focus on what you have and not what you lost?"
Vale turned in her arms. "This isn't them just watching, Ro-...Miss Ryouma." Vale looked toward the door. "This is them letting me know that they are keeping score...And, that I'm losing."

The defeated note in his voice worried her. She pulled back enough to kiss his forehead as he had done before Kisuke's arrival, whispering in his ear. "You're counting the negative points, Vale." Pulling away, she led him towards the couch and sat him down, kissing his lips gently. She tried a slight smile. "I thought that was my job in this relationship. Aren't you supposed to not think about what could happen?"

Vale sighed and stood from the couch. "I'm sorry, Miss Ryouma." He brushed the hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. "I have to get back to work. You should probably go, too. We don't want the little birdy thinking that you are staying with me..."
Vale opened the door of his apartment, and slammed it shut behind him as he left.

Closing her eyes, Yumiko sat down in his place, letting her heartbeat calm down. One hand lifted to the stubborn lock of hair he had tucked behind her ear. She sighed. “You’re the one who told me to stop living in the past, and yet, you fall back to it as soon as you’re confronted…” She looked to Chinmoku lying on the ground and walked over, kneeling and picking it up. She slid the zanpakuto back into its sheath and looked up…
… Into the eyes of the fire god.
She rose from her crouch, not sure what to say.

"Why the wide eyes, Yumiko Ryouma?" The god placed a hand on the sheathed Chinmoku. "This is not yours to keep, my dear. It is not even mine. But, with me, it will stay." Chinmoku faded from Ryouma's grasp.
The god turned away from the noble, a smile forming on his face. "I hear the gears of your mind turning, Ryouma. Ask, and perhaps I will answer."
Yumiko hesitated and then decided to ask. "How long have you been interested in Vale?"
A smile curled on the edges of the god's lips. "Interested? My dear, I have directed the path of Tervaden for as long as he has had a beating heart. Thanks to you, now, it's one that beats with compassion and a slight disdain for the gods. Why do you ask?"

Yumiko lowered her head. “I worry what will happen if something disturbs this peace.” She looked back up, eyes slightly narrowed. “Why did you make him human? You took his memories and then returned them. What-” Realizing the anger in her tone, she took a breath. “If you have been directing his path, why bring him to Las Noches and now here? Why do you keep altering his path?”

The god leaned close to the Soul Reaper woman. "You speak as if you care for this man, Ryouma." The god grinned. "Ask what you really mean to, and stop wasting my time." The god played with a flame that danced along his hand as he straightened himself. "And, know that there is a price for what you ask for."
Yumiko's eyes narrowed again. "I do care for him, but I don't know if you do."
The god laughed. "No. I don't. Curiosity drives me, my dear. Ask."

Yumiko hesitated, not sure if this was something she should be doing, but Vale's anger at being confronted and his defeated tone weighed on her. Her folded hands tightened, settling on the white rose blooming in a corner of light. She would be a fool not to worry about the god’s price, but she didn’t want to lose Vale either.
“What is the price for taking away his pain, making him more at peace here?”

The god leaned close again, whispering in her ear. "You are." The god took a step back, looking into the worried woman's eyes. "You will forever be his price. But, to relieve Tervaden of the pain caused by the curse of mortality and powerlessness...Well...What would you give for him?"
Yumiko's heart leaped against her chest at his words, focusing on the beginning words. "What do - what do you mean I am his price forever?"
"It is not hard to understand." replied the god. "You are his price. Now, don't avoid answering my question. What would you give?"

Yumiko looked down and then around the room. What would she give to protect Vale? She thought back to his obsession with a small rose he had crushed in her hand, the laughter at her unhappy face after dumping her in the lake in Szayel's garden, telling her to shut up at her doubts, and finally his shy confession this afternoon. Smiling slightly, she looked back at the god. “What do you want?” she asked. “There’s not much I wouldn’t give for him.”
He was one of her few precious people and she had promised herself not to lose anything anymore.

The god frown at the Soul Reaper woman. He placed a finger beneath her chin and shook his head. "That is not what I asked. I asked what you would give for him, Ryouma. So, since you refuse to answer the question, I will name your price."
The god turned away, placing his hands behind his back. "To relieve Vale Tervaden of his pain, here is your price. You ran from your heritage. So, I give you one that you can not so easily lose. Not now, Ryouma. Much later, you will birth Tervaden's child. After all, the Seventh did say that this fight for dominion will rage on until the children of your children bear children of their own."
