"OH! Please forgive me then." Gary lifted his free hand and stuck his pinky finger in his ear like he was cleaning it out. "When you get to my age the hearing is the first thing to go." He chuckled softly, "but in my case it was my eyes and my hearing." He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"I do hope I did not offend you, Mrs. Kita." Gary said.
"Miss and you can call me Kita." She smiled warmly. "and its alright. I am just not real fond of the name Kitten. It has..." she paused and cast her look else where. "Memories..."
"Oh? I would have to say they are not so good with your actions. I am truly sorry for any grief I may have brought on."

Yoruichi smiled at the old man then looked to Kita as she looked back at him.
Shaking her head she replied. "It's fine. I am moving over them slowly."
"I am glad to hear that." Gary told her as he reached out patting her shoulder. "So it will all be over with. a distant memory."
Yoruichi looked from Kita to the old man once more. "Well I guess we had better let you go Mr. Faux. We need to be getting back to the shop with Juushiro and Kenji as well. A mothers work is never done."

"No, no its not." Gary chuckled as he shook his head. "Well you ladies have a wonderful day and we will see you around town."
He then turned and walked away from them leaving them there just the three.

Kita shook her head as she watched him walk away. She then shivered as she wrapped her arms around herself. "He is a strange old man. There was something about him too."
"Like what?" Yoruichi asked looking from Gary walking away to Kita.
"I don't know, but it was like I knew him from somewhere." Kita replied looking back to Gary, but he had disappeared from their sight. She tilted her head with an odd look on her face. "That's odd..." she whispered.

“Maybe it was the nickname, Kita, nothing more,” Yumiko offered, shaking off her own goose bumps. “That… name brings up bad memories and feelings. We could have projected our worries onto him. He seemed harmless, and our memories are still fresh."

Kita nodded, "maybe..."she shook her head lightly. "That name just hit me wrong I guess." She then giggled looking to both Yoruichi and Yumiko. "Old memories haunting me I guess."
Yoruichi linked her arm with Kita's. "Of course it was. He is a harmless old man. Nothing more. The nickname just triggered that old memory. Let it go."
Kita smiled with a nod, "you're right. It was nothing. I have more important things to worry about then a little old man."

Yumiko linked her arm with Kita's free arm. "Come on, let's go buy a few small cartons of ice cream and have everyone join us in an afternoon snack. It's helped before with bad moments." Kita giggled. "That sounds like what I usually say. Are you copying me, Yumiko?" Yoruichi chuckled. "It's sound advice. Let's go before Kenji tires out Juushiro."

"Introspection":As warm light filled the cool morning air, Yumiko walked through the park near the shop. Very few people were around, but the airy birdsong and chilly breeze calmed her heart from her most recent nightmare. Though she wasn’t waking up in a cold sweat or crying anymore. They lingered but their effects had faded to a point. Kita and Orihime had their children to distract and warm their hearts, and Yumiko had the uninterrupted time with them. Yumiko kneeled down to brush her fingers through the cold water of the pond, blue violet eyes thoughtful. Over the past few months, she’s said things to help others, and she knew they were true but what did they mean for her in the end, especially the painful truth about falling in love with two destructive men, being unable to completely let go of her feelings for both? She had told Ashimitsu, Kita’s first love, that he couldn’t force his truth on her. That she had to choose. It was the same here. Yumiko had to examine why she had fallen for them… before she could go back to Soul Society to face the truths of being a noble in Soul Society and the scars of that responsibility.

Shaking the hand of the young man he was just sitting and playing a game of chess with, Gary looked across the park seeing the young lady he met a few month back. He smirked pushing up his glasses and walked slowly her way.
Standing behind her, he leaned on his cane and smiled kindly. "Yumiko, right?"
When she turned to look at him, his smile widened. "How's that little Tiger doing?"

Yumiko smiled back. “He is still sleeping. He wanted to stay up late last night since his Nee-chan was still awake and his father decided to humor him since most of us were awake, too.” She chuckled. “For one reason or another.” She tucked a lock behind her ear. “How are you this morning, Mr. Faux?”

"I am doing rather well. Won three chess matches this morning." His smile fading slowly. "How I would love to find someone that could at least keep up." He looked back into the park at the people walking around.
"Not one of them knows their head from a hole in the ground and they sit down at the chess board with me and think they have the answers to life." He sighed shaking his head as he looked back to her. "Such a shame with the way the world is going to hell." He placed his cane in front of him, both hands now resting on it.

Yumiko shook her head with a quiet smile. “And yet the morning and many other things remain beautiful.” She looked back at the old man. “There will always be evil and ugly sides to life, but it isn’t what matters.” Her eyes widened for a moment and then she calmed, looking down into the rippling water.
“As long as life is a kaleidoscope, no hope is futile.”
She looked back at Mr. Faux. “No one has all the answers to life, but we continue to look. Doesn’t that mean that the world isn’t falling apart as far it first appears?”

Gray chuckled softly as he shook his head gently. "Sweetie. I have been around for decades. I am not going on first appearance. When you have experienced as much of life as I have, you learn when to lose hope and when you hold on to it."
He looked back out at the people in the park, "and in the case of mankind. They are not getting any smarter. Only more stupid."

“Life is not perfect. It’s what we make of it.” She chuckled. “I am sorry if I am disagreeing with you, sir. But I can offer a game of chess if you will remind me of the rules. It’s been a while since I have had the opportunity to play, and though I have one fatal flaw in the game, it takes a while to corner me.”

Gary chuckled giving her a nod as he turned walking back toward the chess tables, "one fatal flaw could cost you your queen." He grinned pushing up his glasses. "Chess is like life." He looked over at her as they walked.
"You always sacrifice your pawns to protect your queen." He looked back toward the tables finding one free, walking toward it. "It's the name of the game."
