"Playing with Ice Fire":Another day of night had passed into true night, but Yumiko didn't sleep long. She wasn't tired. Dressing and slipping out of her room, she walked down the hall of the Fifth Tower and stopped outside the throne room. She paused and then retraced her steps, soon finding herself on the balcony above, looking over the long expanse of Hueco Mundo. She recalled the way the goddess' powers had destroyed this portion of Las Noches, and yet it all had come back. It was ... surprising and perhaps fitting palace for someone who aspired to be a god. Yumiko's expression remained still, like glass, as she continued to let her mind wander.

"You probably shouldn't be wandering around these halls this late, Yumiko. Even with this newfound acceptance of pain." Vale leaned against the frame of the doorway leading to the balcony. He rubbed his eye and yawned. "What's keeping you from your sleep?"

Yumiko turned at the voice and got an questioning look in her eyes at Vale's civil tone. There was no reason for him to punch her yet act like this a day later. Finally, she shrugged. “I can’t sleep, and I am not wandering too far. Besides, I am armed.” She indicated Mizue no Kagami on her hip.

Vale raised his brow. "Your sudden acceptance of pain makes you fearless?" He asked pushing himself from the wall and walking towards her. "Even with Mizue, you are better off staying in your room." Vale raised his hand and rested it against her cheek. "Bruise doesn't look too bad..."

“Of course it doesn’t,” she replied. “I can heal myself after all.” She looked down at his hand on her cheek, wondering if it was going to result in another bruise, and then turned her mind to his other piece of ‘advice’. “I can take care of myself, and a few people have reminded me that there are only a couple people who would dare harm me. Besides, my room is just down the hall. It is a safe distance away.”

"There is no such thing as safety in this place." He dropped his hand from her cheek and turned up his eye patch. "This was done by the most unsuspecting of us here. And, there are far worse things than her here. I just want to make sure you're ok, Rose...Yumiko." He looked at her and smiled weakly.

She chuckled. “Your concern is noted, Vale, but really, you should have known this place would have changed her. It changes all who enter its walls, save its master. Perhaps.” She paused, considering his injury, and then continued. “It is unfortunate that you are once again blind in that eye, but maybe it can be fixed. Inoue was not the only healer and Szayel is also clever if you wish to try another method."

Vale frowned. "Aizen will not be touching me." He turned down his eye patch and looked away. "And, you're not exactly friendly with me right now, Yumiko. Even though I would love to have you all over me again...I think I'm ok."

A fleeting blush chased across her features before they stilled again. “I wasn’t aware that I was being unfriendly, Tervaden, except when you lashed out at me for something I don’t understand. Then again, I didn’t draw my blade, so I was still being civil.” She waved her hand and turned back to the quiet landscape.

Vale wrapped his arms around her waist as he stepped up behind her. He rested his chin on her shoulder as he whispered in her ear. "What did they do to you, Rose?"

Yumiko frowned slightly and pulled away to turn around and look at him. “That question again. Perhaps you should ask someone besides me for the answer if you still find my answer dissatisfactory.”

Vale laughed taking a step back. "Ah. Yumiko the bitch it is. So, tell me. If you are as knee deep in despair and this non emotional bullshit as they want you to be ...let's put it to the test. Give me my rematch, Yumi. I've been dying to beat that ass since you stomped me in the face."

A sight grim smile lit over Yumiko’s features, power shining in the depths of her violet-tinted eyes at the spoken challenge. “I see no reason to deny you another opportunity. It will give me the chance to hone my skills further.” She stepped past him and then leaped down to the floor.
“Are you changing your mind, Vale Tervaden, just standing there and looking at me?”

Without warning, Vale called for Chinmoku's release and sent him slicing towards Yumiko. She turned in a huff as Vale laughed. "What? I just said I wanted a rematch. I didn't say where. But, I did mean now." "It's your fault if we destroy the throne room," Yumiko muttered, releasing Mizue no Kagami and sending a reflection of Chinmoku back at him, pushing his own cloud back. Her sword sparked as she gathered a kido spell around it.
"Ah that's right. You do have that nasty habit of mimicking another's power. You know, that makes you as bad as Koga." "Soren Soukatsu!" a bolt of blue white energy rushed towards Vale, cracking pieces of the marble. "Someone told me it doesn't matter what makes me strong," Yumiko replied, sending her cloud of Chinmoku at him after the blaze. "Devour him," she said quietly. Vale's eyes narrowed and broke his shield, splitting Chinmoku and setting it at her in a two-pronged attack. The ribbons on the hilt of Yumiko's blade twirled around each other as Yumiko used a combination of her fiery shield of Soukatsui and her portion of Chinmoku to hold her ground. Vale added another layer to Chinmoku and Yumiko continued to use Kido and enough of her own Chinmoku to keep him at bay. Training until they admitted to exhaustion, the two went their separate ways.

"Phase One":Aizen sat in his throne room awaiting the only man he knew could get away with the next step in his ploy. While he waited he bundled the small stack of notes placing the most important on the top. They were to be delivered without haste for tomorrow, when the gathering would take place, and he could not afford anyone being over looked. All the guest of honor must be present. What fun would there be if even one were over looked. Once the sixteen note were bundled with a thin piece of twine he tossed them to a folded Soul Reaper uniform. Now he only waited for his messenger to arrive.
