"Do you thirst for power so badly, you would let a god cloud your mind again?" questioned Methuselah, slamming into the Shinigami shoulder first. He picked the man up, and threw him to the ground. He hammered into the Shinigami's chest as tears filed his eyes and anger flooded his heart.
"Are you not a man that can stand on his own?"

Vale raised a hand, catching the Quincy's fist as it came down. He laughed, headbutting the Quincy. "I can stand just fine, old man." Vale pushed the man off of him, keeping a hold on his hand.
"As far as the god clouding my mind," Vale turned Chinmoku's hilt in his hand, reforming a portion of his blade. "As for this god and I, we have an agreement which prevents any such clouding. But, I don't have time to explain this to you."
Vale ran the edge of the partially formed blade along the Quincy's forearm. Blood poured from the Quincy's arm, as he pulled away from Vale. Laughing, Vale pointed the partially formed blade toward the massive swirling cloud of Chinmoku. A portion of the massive cloud, formed a large sphere.
"Gesshoku!" shouted Vale. The sphere exploded, casting the area in total darkness.

Takai drew her blade, frantically shooting arcs of light into the darkness. The cooling air nipped at her skin, as the arcing waves of light showed very little of her surroundings. "Father?" Takai saw only a shadow of her father.
Stumbling back, as the chill was becoming unbarable, Takai fumbled over the younger Ichimaru. "Ichimaru?" Aiming for the sky, Takai released another arc of light. She saw the child crouched over his father. She closed her eyes.
Moments later, she opened them and released another arc of light. This time, spotting the child frantically looking around while standing several feet from where she last saw him. "Ichi...maru?"

“Stop it,” Sojiro whispered, teeth chattering. He swung a hand out in front of him, head pounding and suddenly away from his father. “Just stop being a bully,” he snapped. Moisture trickled from his nose. He wiped it away angrily, stumbling. He had to get back to his father. But he had to get out of this chilling darkness. Someone called out to him, the Quincy girl from before. His eyes squinted. “Damn it,” he hissed. “I am so tired of this brutality.”
He blinked and grabbed her arm. "Let's ...." he slipped to one knee, "get out...." He tried to stand but his vision swam. He felt ... tired.
"Gotta... keep... moving..."
He realized it was blood leaking from his nose. But why?
In a moment of clarity, he recalled an order Kisuke had given him more than once. "I think you'll be okay as long as it's just headaches, but if your nose starts bleeding, you need to tell me right away."
"Can't when I am .... here...." he mumbled.

Vale chuckled in the darkness, only his eyes able to see clearly. Watching as the woman and child moved about frantically in the dark. "Now, what is this Ichimaru? Has the cold gotten to you? Or...is it something far more interesting?" Appearing behind the child, Vale hit him in the back of the head knocking him out. "We shall find out later." Recalling Chinmoku, Vale looked to the Quincy with a wide grin. "I'm afraid I must go. Some people may have grown inpatient by now. Teruo, collar them. All of them." Looking down, Vale looked to the unconscious older Ichimaru. "Give him his blade, Teruo. Give him hope and a chance to return to the dark. But, he must choose a clear path. If it remains unclear...Kill him." With his warning made, Vale picked up the younger Ichimaru and carried him into an opening gate.

"Dough and Hope" continued:Raelin was sitting by the banks of the river, watching the reflection of the amethyst pendent wink in and out. Like the sunlight above drifting on lazy clouds. A dragonfly settled on the image, his wings buzzing as the large eyes whirled and watched her. She smiled quietly. And it flew away. Heart twinging, Raelin closed her eyes and stood up, brushing off her jeans.
Her hand lingered where she had worn her engagement ring before she quickly placed her hands behind her back. Yuzu would fuss. And she didn’t want her to worry. She was …. happy enough helping her. Wasn’t she? As a warm gust of wind tugged on her figure and hair, she held her hand to the hat on her head. The wide open landscape around her rippled around her.

Kita and the others walked up to Raelin as she stood there waiting for them. "Raelin." Kita spoke to her then stepped forward some more wrapping her arms around her giving her a tight hug. "It is so good to see you alive." She pulled back looking into her eyes and smiled brightly.
"And I am not saying that just because I need your talents."

Raelin covered up the warmth she felt at hearing that by returning the smile. “It’s good to see you, too, Kita,” she replied. “I apologize for hiding. It’s just…” she shrugged, “what I have grown used to.” She lowered her head. “Besides the Kurosakis, the Quincies are not very well liked.”
And I can’t let my line die if another Quincy/Shinigami war breaks out....
She shook her head. "I have taken to staying on the outskirts of town."

"Its understandable. I would do the same." Kita nodded slightly as she spoke to her then took her hands into hers. She got straight to the point too much time had been lost as it was. She did not want to wait another minute.
"Raelin. I need your help. Again. Gin has fallen prey to the Ayakashi Sada. I don't know what he has done to him. I can't contact him at all in our connection and he has these awful dreams that make him scream in anger or pain. His eyes are open and fear laced or intent to kill. A few times Kisuke and Tessai has had to chase him down. They all have ended up hurt because of this, and Gin is not at all conscious in this. He is in a full daze."
She squeezed her hand gently but firmly. "Please Raelin. If you could at least come and see if something can be done for him I will be forever indebted to you."

Raelin covered her hands with her own. “Helping you started to bridge a gap between the Shinigami and Quincies, and though it may be too soon to attempt that healing again, I, at least, have no one to stop me from at least wishing for it to happen.”
Before we’re all gone. Before it’s even more lonesome than it already is.
“I would be glad to attempt to reach Ichimaru again - if no one will stop me. The hope for a different tomorrow is enough gratitude, too.” She paused. “There is one more thing actually. Would you mind giving me a place to rest if something does happen? Considering how long he has been gone….. it could be severe. And I have no one else.” She lowered her head once more. "I apologize."

Kita covered her mouth trying to hide her trembling lips, her eyes filled with tears as she the took Raelin in her arms quickly, hugged her tightly. "Thank you. And you are welcome at my home for as long as you wish to stay. Even if you cannot help Gin now. You helped us the last time I owe you that much."
Raelin closed her eyes. "You owe me nothing. I only did what I could." Both of the girls were silent for a few moments, Kita trying to keep from crying, Raelin stunned once again at the selflessness shown her once again by this human woman.
She spoke again as they pulled apart. "Thank you, Kita. I am glad you stayed the same in spite of it all."
Kita wiped her eyes and giggled softly. "If anything changed about me because of what happen. It was a deeper hatred for the man that caused all this." She looked around the area. "Why don't you gather your things so we can go home."

Raelin smiled. “I don’t live here. It was just distant enough that it would be unlikely that any would disturb Yuzu or myself while we trained.”
“Then, if you’re done crying and stuff,” Ichigo interrupted, “you can hop in the truck with the rest of us and I’ll take you to your place. It’s that simple.” “That’s not really nec-” “It is!” Kita declared, taking her hand. “You’re coming home with me.” She smiled. “And you’re different sizes than me so we need your clothes.” Raelin laughed quietly. “True enough.” She hesitated for one more moment and then let herself he led away, barely catching her hat as her hair pulled free of her braid, fanning around her in a shimmering arc of light.

"Company with a Cat" continued: By 7:23, Karin was jogging down the trail bordering the river. Dressed in cropped black leggings and a blue tank top, her long hair pulled back in a ponytail with long locks framing her face, she bobbed her head as she went, humming to her favorite song. The chill of the dew in the air and the hum of life starting again soothed her niggling anxiety about Ichi wanting to visit Hime and Mom again soon. Moving over as a bicyclist rushed by her, she raised her hand as she went. The sun rose higher, warming her right side. She wondered when they would have any news about Toshiro.
Karin halted and took a deep breath of cool air. "You better not have kicked the bucket." She stretched her arms up. "After all you've had to get past."

"Past what?" A voice questioned as a large black cat crossed Karin's path.
It stopped at her feet and looked up at her with its big yellow eyes, blinking a few times.
When Karin said nothing but look at her with her hands on her hips, Yoruichi chuckled softly. "What's the matter Karin? Cat got your tongue?" She darted over and hopped up on a nearby bench. "By the way. No pun intended."

Karin took a seat on the bench by her. “You know what people would think of a girl in her prime talking to a cat that she does NOT own?” she murmured, reaching for her bottle of water, attached to her hip. “They’d think she was crazy.” She took a long gulp. “It’s good that there’s not a lot of people around now.”
“This is all a moot point when you are crazy - after you see ghosts and technically are part one, too,” Yoruichi returned, started to clean herself. “Are you going to answer my question?”
“I was thinking about the crap that I know Toshiro has gone through. That’s all.”
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a bag of crackers and cheese. She offered Yoruichi one. “Your turn. What’s got Ichi all serious?"
