Ichigo rubbed the back of his head again, looking over to Eve, all tense and ready to pounce at the right time. Why hasn’t she moved? Is it because of my alter ego’s strength?
Then something seized his head in a vice grip, making his stagger. What the- He pushed up, trying to connect what it was when – it faded. Evita’s telepathic skills?
His eyes narrowed.
“What did you learn?”
He turned to Raelin. “What do you mean?”
“You get a dark shadow around your head when your hollow side wakes. What did he tell you?”
“He-wait, you can see that now?” The only time his hollow had seemed to have a physical manifestation was when he had fought against the hollow. Now, the shift remained in his eyes. At least according to others. “Wait, can you see something like that around Eve?”

Raelin nodded. “There is. It’s much bigger than yours.” She looked up and raised the steel bow, focusing on the reflection of the crouched young woman. “Yours comes and goes. Hers is like a thick dark shell on her back and arms but hers is more fluid like a kind of gel.”
“If I distract her, could you purify that?” Raelin frowned. “That might harm her more than you want, especially after her experience at my people’s hands.” Ichigo grinned. “Don’t worry. I trust you and she’s strong.” He shunpo’ed forwards, seemingly disappearing for a moment, and then reappeared with his hollow mask. Evita’s form growled lowly and straightened, the threads striking out at the threat. And Ichigo let one of his arms get caught. Blood spilling before he grabbed the threads, halting the stranglehold. She paused.
Closing her eyes, Raelin recalled her Quincy powers and flash-stepped behind Evita, wings forming as she set a hand on the young woman’s back. A spark formed in her hand against the dark mass. Momentarily radiating outwards in all directions like dancing sunlight against glass, the light then faded.
And Ichigo caught his fainting daughter in his arms. Raelin’s wings faded as she folded her hands over her still warm pendent, and looked over the glistening river. It felt good to help these people one more time.
Ichigo draped his jacket over Evita and stood, flexing his arm which had also healed in the spark of power. He started back towards the town and then paused. "Come on, Rae," he called out. "You can pretend you want to leave now, but I think I'm right in guessing that you want to make sure Eve's okay. And I'm sure my sisters want to say a couple things." Raelin chuckled quietly and turned around. A couple more days wouldn't hurt if it would put these kind people at ease. Then, she would decide where to go.

Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: Deep RenewalEpisode 315 “Family”: After being banished from his palace in Las Noches, Aizen found himself in Karakura, watching it rebuild after the destruction from Kita and the hollows that were unleashed on it. Everything Giichi had told them was coming true. He looked down at his hand as he flexed it from open to closed. He doesn’t ever remember his powers being so minute, not even as a lieutenant can he remember being so weak. Looking up and across the town once more, Aizen could feel the reiatsu of his brother, Kisuke, and many others appear throughout the town. Aizen stood there for a few more seconds, then started a path into town. Moved

Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: RejectionEpisode 414 "Reluctant Severing": Yumiko stood on a bridge by the river in Karakura watching the river go by underneath her. She still had a lot on her mind after her confession to Ukitake, and a part of her wanted to think of nothing at all after confronting a portion of that truth. However, another part of her felt relieved when the captain had told her that Vale wanted to speak. Or the man that used to be known as Vale. For some reason, he wanted to go by Seto now, although that change didn’t seem to assure her guardian of much. “Are you worried,” she’d asked, “even after he left Las Noches?”
Her mentor sighed. “I’m sorry, Yumiko, but yes, I am. Seto Tetsuya, formerly known as Vale Tervaden, is a man who has changed more times than any other I have known since he massacred his division, and despite all those changes, I am no closer to understanding him than I was in the beginning. I am almost certain it’s the same with Shunsui and Kisuke. We have seen pieces of his reasoning and most he’s left in shadow, hurting more people each time.
Once an old friend told me that there are two kinds of darkness, the beauty of the night sky and the oblivion of despair and sorrow. It is a great man that can use both without losing his path. Once, I thought that man was Tetsuya, but I don’t know if he’ll ever get that balance back….”
Yumiko brushed her hair back, eyes solemn. She shared some of their worries and at the same time, she wondered if she had those answers, if it would make moving forward any easier. Both Vale- Seto and her seemed to be waiting… holding each other at arms’ length since his return from Hell. The confession in Las Noches’ garden seemed so distant. What did they want now?

Seto stood a good distance away from the young woman who appeared deep in thought...Deeper than he would have liked her to be. He smiled as he looked at her. Seto had spent hours shifting between anger and disappointment. Although he did not expect a warm welcome, he had not prepared himself for the welcome he had received. The Captains Kyoraku and Ukitake had pushed him to the point of anger. And, for what? He had made no threat. He even asked for permission to speak with Yumiko.
After leaving Kyoraku and Ukitake, Seto sought out Yumiko. But, when he found her, he had no desire to disturb her peace. Even if she had not been sleeping, his efforts and anger were for nothing. He could think of nothing to say beyond 'I'm sorry.'
After a few moments of watching, Seto walked closer to Yumiko. He cleared his throat to get her attention.

Yumiko turned around at the sound and smiled. “Hello, Va- I mean, Seto.” She looked down, back to the water below. “It’s strange calling you a new name when I’ve known you by another for so long. It will take a while to get used to.” She turned back to him. “Hope you don’t mind talking here. I wanted a change of scenery. Last night…. was a little difficult for me.”
Seto nodded. And, despite wanting to get close, he kept his distance with his arms folded across his chest. "If it's easier, you may continue to call me Vale...Though, I would rather you not. And the change in scenery is nice. I don't imagine I would be allowed back at Ukitake's manor, anyway."
Yumiko glanced down again. "Maybe not. I don't think he trusts you yet, and I don't think my discussion with him helped with those feelings."

"Yet..." he mumbled. "I don't think that he will ever. And, it's something I have accepted. I may never be able to return home." Seto gave a nervous chuckle. "It's kind of funny...Kita suggested that I wait for Kisuke to plead my case for a pardon like they did with Ichimaru. Some idiots get all the luck..." He chuckled again, this time as he turned on his heels. He began to pace.
"I assume Ukitake told you that I've left Las Noches. And, maybe a bit of my past. Uh...But," He turned to face Yumiko. "Do you have any questions for me?"

“Vale, I…” Yumiko walked a few steps towards him but stopped afterwards, letting him talk as he paced away from her. “Seto, I know that you left Las Noches, but I’m not sure what you mean about your past.” She hesitated and then walked back to the bridge, folding her arms and looking at the landscape, her mind on the past. “You’re the one who told me, long ago, about killing your division. You said… it was necessary, and in a way, when I look back on that day, it reminded me of the time you came for me when you destroyed Soul Society. That’s- that’s all you’ve said about your past. I know a little more because I looked at the diary I found hidden in your apartment, but we’ve never really discussed it.”
She closed her eyes, taking a breath to keep her emotions at bay, trying to think straight. “We talk about me, but we’ve never really talked about you. You’ve been a mystery, and because of my feelings, I accepted it. But it’s been hard.”
She opened her eyes again and looked over, blue-violet eyes determined. "Do you want to answer or is there another reason you're doing this now?" Her hand on the railing trembled.
Are you being genuine in opening up or... doing what you must to cling on?

"Well, no one was ever really interested in me." he admitted, now finding himself in a pensive mood. "I felt comfortable in knowing that no one was interested. It meant, in a way, I didn't have to face any of it." Seto hung his head and took a deep breath. "It also created distance between myself and anyone wanting to get closer. Even you." Seto looked to Yumiko, seeing the slight tremble. He continued his pacing.
"I feel a world away from you, Yumiko." Seto stopped his pacing and turned to face his love. "A world away and greater since my talk with Kyoraku and Ukitake. I long for the warmth of your glow but I know that I don't deserve you. And, I know that you are much more deserving of someone far better than me. I am the villain and the fool and the trickster in our relationship...If you want to call it that."
Seto grew quiet for a moment. "I will tell you want you want to know...If you want to know it. But, think first...Is there a future for us? Think about what you risk in being with me..."

Yumiko sighed and walked over to him. “Seto, it’s not about what I risk. I think there’s more than that. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to know if you’re going to share. I always have. You gave me glimpses and never took them completely away, always using them to get underneath my walls.” She reached up to touch his cheek, offering him another smile. “I don’t know if there is a future for us, but I think we’ve gone as far as we can with these secrets.”
She lowered her hand, eyes going moist as she glanced away. “Both of us…” She bit her lip to keep more tears at bay from another wave of emotion, closing her eyes to keep calm.

"Then, no more secrets, hm?" Seto placed a finger beneath her chin, forcing her to look at him. "No more secrets. Not from me. What do you want to know, love?"
She had too many questions to ask that it was difficult to respond immediately. But she did, gripping his arm. "Was it Alister that made you kill your division or was it necessary for another reason? is there another reason for that that you've always hid behind that blunt yet evasive answer?"
"Kita asked the same question. I'm not entirely sure why you all think Alister was responsible. I knew nothing of Alister then." Seto pulled Yumiko closer to him, wrapping his arms as tightly around her as she would allow. "When I was a Captain my wife was murdered by my Lieutenant. I went after him in my rage. I saw his face everywhere. On everyone." Sighing, Seto closed his eyes and held Yumiko closer. "I struck them all down...All of them." he whispered. "But...They weren't him...Not one of them..."

Yumiko resisted for a moment, worried he would evade her again, but when he started telling a new story, she relaxed, her arms wrapping around him as she listened. For a moment, she just wanted to stay there, but she pulled back as he finished. "Why has no one said this? That your wife died and that's why you went mad? Shouldn't the other captains have known? Why would you hide that?"
"I am sure they believe that I killed her." Seto voice continued to soften. "My madness began with her death. But I did not cause it. I swear to you, Yumiko...I loved her. I wouldn't have..." Seto tightened his hold on her as he took a deep breath. "I wouldn't have..."
"Why... why did you never tell me? You let me think that Alister had a hand in most of your life. That- that you were all alone..." She caressed his cheek again, smiling a bit again, filled with an incredible wave of relief. She couldn't quite explain why. "You lost her, but you weren't. You weren't alone."

"But, I was." Seto's hands fell to Yumiko's waist. "I was alone, love. She was my world. And, he took that from me. I was alone and angry. And, I didn't want to be without her. I wanted to die. For every man that I struck down, I hoped that the next would kill me. But they didn't. Then...Ukitake came." Seto chuckled. "I wanted him to kill me. And, he didn't. I was angry at him for so long for not actually doing it. A bit childish, yeah?"
"I'm not sure childish is the right word," Yumiko murmured, leaning against him again. "You were hurt... Did you find him?"
Seto shook his head. “No. I hope he’s fucking dead…” The hatred he has for the man was heavy. And enough to spark a moment of anger as he held Yumiko in his arms. “What else do you want to know…?”

Yumiko leaned up to give him a kiss on the forehead. "Vale- Seto, you should tell the others about your wife, about your lieutenant. It might change things for you."
Seto scoffed as he held her. "I doubt it, love."
"I'm not saying it will change things now. I'm not that naive. I'm saying it might give you the benefit of the doubt with some people, enough for you to breathe. Enough for change to happen slowly." She paused, inhaling. "If you want to be seen in a different light."
She pulled back again, taking both of his hands in hers. "Seto, from what I understand from talking to Kita, Gin has never ever cared what others thought of him. He's his own judge and council. But you've always seemed angered by the similar judgement passed on you. You compare your crimes to his and your judgement to his. You..." she lowered her head, glancing away again, "you took joy in tearing apart Soul Society again and again... I think you're different. You do care what's said and because you've been cast out, you destroy it."
She turned back to him, touching the scar above his eye. "Am I close?"

Gin again...Seto grunted and let his arms fall away from her. "It's like you all forget what he's done. You all have justified the countless lives he took or had a hand in ending because he what? Loves Kita? Has aligned himself with Urahara? None of these things make him worthy of anyone's forgiveness. And yet..." Seto shook his head. He felt his body tense with every word spoken about the man.
"This isn't about him, Yumiko. And, if you wouldn't mind, stop comparing me to him. It does nothing but serve as a reminder of the Gotei's bias." Seto stepped away from her. "What else do you want to know, Yumiko?"
