Jiro watched as Makino headed off with her group, her confident stride unwavering. He turned and made his way to the Central Plaza, where a team of shinigami was already hard at work.
The plaza was a mess of shattered stone and broken beams. Jiro joined a group assessing the stability of a partially collapsed building. His task was to determine which parts could be salvaged and which needed to be torn down completely.
"Jiro, over here!" called a familiar voice. Shin, a fellow shinigami and friend, waved him over. "We need your opinion on this support beam."
Jiro crouched down to inspect the beam. "Looks like it’s still solid," he said after a moment. "If we reinforce it, we can save this section."
Shin nodded. "Got it. I’ll get the materials."
As the night wore on, the team worked tirelessly, making slow but steady progress. Despite the exhaustion setting in, Jiro found a sense of purpose in the work. Each piece of rubble cleared, each structure stabilized, was a step toward rebuilding their home.
