"Because you're dealing with a new generation, Yumiko. The ones nowadays are not so quick to judge. They have an open mind. Not a narrowed one. Once someone is set in their ways it is hard to divert them for their ways." He looked into her eyes and smiled. "Kind of like you with your set ways and mind patterns of thought."
He jerked his hand back as she tried to smack it. "What?!" He shrugged. "You should know by now I tell it like it is."

Yumiko laughed lightly. “I have learned that, but if you offend a lady, doesn’t the gentleman’s code mean you should pay for it?”
“Not by a lady’s hand,” he pointed out with another twinkle in his eye.
“Who was it who said that he didn’t like the nobility and their rules?” she retorted quickly.

He lifted a finger with a tilt of head. "I did, but I also said I don't live but ALL their rules." He grinned playfully. "Only the good ones."
"And I suppose the rules that protect YOU from any retaliation is a good one?" she teased. She looked into her empty cup. "You didn't answer the second question, you know. What do you think my chances are within the Gotei?"
"As a member, or just hanging out?" Kouen asked. "And yes," Kouen replied. "It's just the ones that protect me from retaliation... and then some." He grinned waiting for her answer.
As serious as her question was, his jokes were keeping from worrying about it. "I mean as a member, silly man."
He crossed his arms over his chest and looked at her in thought. After a few minutes he cleared his throat. "I think..." He paused looking at her again for another few minutes, he then noticed Yumiko getting annoyed at him for taking so long to answer her.
"You think what?!" Her voice slightly raised as she then blushed and looked away from him. "I apologize. Go on."
Kouen chuckled. "I think you have a good chance. The ones in the Gotei know your history, why would they not trust you?"

Yumiko looked back to her lap, playing with the fabric over her stomach, silent for few minutes. “Because in the past, Aizen or Tervaden have enchanted me over to their side with their illusions of happiness,” she murmured. Her fingers spread out over her kicking child, another smile replacing the solemn expression from a couple minutes ago. “Thank you, Kouen-san. I think I understand. Even if I am not sure what I want yet. I think,” she yawned and covered her her mouth with her sleeve, “the future’s closer… than it’s been … in a long time.”
She laughed softly and shook her head, trying to push away the exhaustion that had crept on her. Again.
"I apologize, Kouen-san," she murmured.

Kouen stood nodding his head as he offered her a hand. "Come on. I will walk you home. You're exhausted and need your rest."
As she took his hand he helped her to her feet then pulled her into a hug. "Keep your chin up, things don't happen over night. You are at least headed in the right direction of a full recovery."
He released her from the hug with a bright smile as he took her hand and led her from the tea room. "You know what? I say we get together in a couple of days and have dinner. You name it; I will take you there."

Yumiko shook her head slowly. “You’re the one who’s been helping me,” she muttered as she leaned against his warm body. “I should be repaying ….youuuu,” she yawned again. “You-” “Think of it as congratulations, if you must, but I insist,” Kouen interrupted, holding her up. As she muttered something under her breath, he looked down, grinning at her sleepy smile. “Just so you know, I don’t think you have the energy to fight me on this.”
“It’s not fair to propo.sition. a lady. when she’s. too tired to think,” she muttered in turn. “Nope,” Kouen smirked, “but then it’s not always fun.” “Are you picking on someone again, Kouen?” Kouen looked up to see Byakuya-sama, his mother, and his eldest brother in the doorway. “Now why would I do that?” he declared.
Yumiko pulled out of her daze and straightened from her compromising position against Kouen, her cheeks flaming. “I apologize. A tired spell came over me. He was assisting me.” Saya smiled, handed her packages to Byakuya-sama, and walked over. “I think it would easier on you if we let you rest here for a little bit. I remember when my children exhausted me.” She looked to Kouen. “And I didn’t like thinking of walking long distances either.”
“After the evening meal, your energy should return. It will be safer to return home then,” Byakuya murmured before exiting the room. Kin followed him. Saya smiled at Yumiko. “Don’t worry. Leave everything to me. Kouen, stop staring and get Koko. I don’t know why she’s dead on her feet, but I’m sure it’s your fault.”
Both Kouen and Yumiko protested that fact, but Lady Masanobu wouldn’t let Yumiko elaborate too long when another yawn escaped from between her lips. She was bustled into a guest room and tucked in. And too tired and content to argue. Or thank them. Yumiko curled around her belly with a smile and fell asleep. ~ END RP ~ "First Date":

Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: RejectionEpisode 405 "Noble Assassins?": "Mother," Makino called out to her mother as she quickly walked into the sitting room of their family home. Her mother was sitting and having her afternoon tea and reading a book."Is there something wrong, Maki-chan." the woman marked her book, closing it. She sat the book on her lap and gave her daughter full attention."Kouen and I were in the market and I was checking the noticeboard and saw that the Shin'ō Academy will be taking new student enrollments next month." Makino informed her mother as she sat at the table with her. "You're still going to allow me to enroll correct?"
She lifted an empty cup, poured herself a cup of tea, and took one of the white cakes from the plate of snacks.

"I did tell you we would discusss this when the time came, but your older brothers were very much against it. I doubt their minds have changed." Saya the young girl's mother expressed.
Makino sighed, "yeah, but Kouen and Shriou thinks it's a good idea."
"Of course they do. Because they don't see the big picture." Makino's eldest brother, Kin, stated as he entered the room along with her second eldest brother, Hakuryuu.
Makino looked toward her older brothers, her eyes narrowed. "I don't know what the two of you see so wrong with me joining the Shin'ō Academy."
"Makino, your heritage is different. You don't belong there, and an example has been set. Kuchiki-sama removed his sister-in-law from Shin'ō Academy when she was already enrolled. As our sister, you belong there even less," Hakuryuu explained quietly, though as firmly as his older brother.
Makino growled under her breath at her brothers causing Saya to clear her throat, "Maki-chan, that is not very lady like."

"You're not only a noble Makino, but an assassin. Do you realize the uprise this would cause if it were found out?" Kin asked her.
"But we go by the surname Tori, not Masanobu. No one is going to find out because I will be enrolling under the Tori surname." Makino explained.
"And what of your skills, Maki-chan? What will you do with them? It's not like you can turn them off." Kin questioned his baby sister.

“Perhaps you could control yourself during training at the academy with the skills you've learned here. Perhaps you could accept that lie about yourself for your goal. However, it leads down one path after. The Gotei 13." Hakuryuu continued. "What happens when you find placement in one of the divisions? Very few of the captains or even their lieutenants are fools. You either continue with your lies, even to your commanding officer, or you reveal yourself and threaten our position. You are too young for these consequences."

"You know, Kuchiki-sama is very much aware of the family," Kouen stated as he walked in the room with his youngest brother, Shirou.
"And you know the Koriyamas will stand behind Maki-chan enrolling in the Shin'ō Academy. So why are the two of you objecting to this idea of hers so strongly?" Shirou added his two cents in the discussion.
"I think Maki-chan would do wonderfully in the academy, and I would not be surprised if she advanced quickly and graduated early."

"Just not too quickly or she'll find someone she likes before we're ready too," Shirou called back, pushing the sleeves of his elaborate kimono to the side before picking up a cake from the table. He sat down next to their sister. “Lighten up, Nii-sama, Hakuryuu-dono. Makino is her own woman. She’s almost as strong as us. She's a Masanobu. She has a right to make her choice.”
"I don't want to hear that from someone who dresses as a pretty boy," Kin growled.
Shirou merely shrugged. "Maybe I should be teaching YOU how to dress, Nii-sama. Your wardrobe could use some color."

Makino giggled at Shirou's comment about Kin's wardrobe as she looked at her youngest brother, and patted his arm closest to her. "I don't think you have to worry about that, Shiro. I don't think any guys are going to like me. Most guys don't like girls that can kick their butts."
Kouen laughed, "I don't know about that, Maki-chan. I know a few guys that get into the kind of stuff."
"Your friends aside, Kouen, this is not a discussion we will be having with our sister," Hakuryuu demanded.
Makino shook her head, "I am not a baby anymore, Haku, and trust me I have heard worst come out of Kouen's mouth. Plus, we are getting off track. I want to enroll in the academy next month and I would like to do it with the blessing of everyone in the family, not a split decision." She looked pointedly at her two eldest brothers. "What is it going to take to get you two on board for this?"

Saya looked at her two eldest sons. "Makino has expressed for some time now that she has wanted to join the Gotei, you both know that. Even when your father was still alive she talked about it, and even he supported her."
"Mother please, don't push this subject." Kin stated. "Where are they going to place her? She is an assassin by trait."
"The Second Division will suit her skills perfectly. I am sure Captain Soi Fong would be impressed with Maki-chan's skills." Kouen spoke up.
"I doubt that will be possible. Have you not heard?" Hakuryuu asked. Kouen and the others looked his direction. "Captain Soi Fong was killed in the takeover."
Saya shook her head, "Aizen Sousuke has left far too many scars on this realm." she fell silent for a moment then asked, "Have they name her successor?"

Hakuryuu nodded. “Tsukiro Ashimitsu, former captain of the Eighth Division, is now in charge with Kairo Namori. He finally stepped up as Yoruichi-sama’s heir shortly before the takeover and with the losses from the takeover was officially moved to Stealth Force when the Gotei returned. I believe he even returned to the Shihoin estate.”
“Great!” Kouen crowed. “There’s no way Tsukiro will turn Maki-chan away. Those two already know about us and will know exactly what to do.”
Hakuryuu folded his arms and fell silent.
Shirou lowered his tea. "That's not the only reason you object, is it, Hakuryuu-dono?"
"An assassin is safer in the dark. Without the mystery behind us, the whole family is in danger. That was father's teaching. How is that any different with sending Makino into the Gotei? I did not understand it."
