Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: The ChaosEpisode 582 "Double The Trouble": The morning light streamed through the windows of the Sixth Division office building, casting long streaks of gold across Yorusuke's neatly stacked paperwork. Yorusuke, the Fifth Seat of the division, was seated at his desk, diligently reviewing reports with an expression that was as focused as it was tired. He enjoyed the quiet rhythm of these early hours, where the hum of Soul Society felt distant and unobtrusive. A distant commotion disrupted that rhythm, the muffled sound of hurried footsteps echoing through the corridors. Yorusuke’s pen paused mid-signature as the door to his office flew open, revealing a panicked Renji Abarai. “Yorusuke,” Renji said, his tone pitched with irritation and dread, “you’re not going to believe this.”Before Yorusuke could ask what was going on, a voice cut through the air like a storm. “Captain Kuchiki! Lieutenant Abarai! I demand immediate attention!” Renji groaned audibly, turning to face the source of the disruption. Yorusuke followed suit, standing to get a better view. Storming into the Sixth Division headquarters was none other than Nobuyuki Hojo, a lower-tier noble known for his obsession with antiquities. His wide eyes darted around the room, and his hands gesticulated wildly as he clutched what appeared to be an empty display case. “Renji, this one’s yours,” Yorusuke muttered with a smirk, sitting back down. “Don’t even start,” Renji shot back through gritted teeth before plastering on a forced smile. “Hojo-sama. How can we help you this morning?”
“How can you help me? How can you not help me?!” Hojo shrieked, slamming the display case onto a nearby table. “I have been robbed! Do you know what was in this case? An irreplaceable artifact from the early days of the Soul Society—a ceremonial dagger passed down through my family for centuries!” Renji’s eyebrow twitched, but he managed to keep his voice steady. “That’s very unfortunate, Hojo-sama. Can you tell us exactly what happened?”“I woke up this morning and found my private gallery in disarray! The dagger was gone, along with several smaller items of little value.” Hojo’s voice wavered dramatically, as though he might faint from the sheer horror of the crime. “This is a disgrace to my name and an insult to my family’s honor! I demand that you find the culprits immediately!” Yorusuke, who had been silently observing the exchange, finally spoke up. “Hojo-sama, was there any sign of forced entry?” Hojo spun on his heel to glare at Yorusuke. “No, but that only proves the sophistication of the thieves! They must have bypassed my security system entirely. Professionals, no doubt.” “Or someone with a key,” Yorusuke suggested. Hojo spluttered indignantly, but Renji quickly stepped in to diffuse the tension. “We’ll investigate thoroughly, Hojo-sama. If you could provide a list of the stolen items and any other details, that would help us narrow down our suspects.”“Fine, fine!” Hojo huffed, pulling out a long scroll from within his robes. “Here’s the inventory. But I expect swift action. I won’t have my reputation tarnished because of your incompetence!” Renji took the scroll with a forced smile that barely masked his frustration. As Hojo stormed out of the office, muttering about negligence and dishonor, Renji let out a long sigh and rubbed the back of his neck. “Why do these nobles always make everything sound like it’s life or death?” he grumbled.“Because to them, it is,” Yorusuke replied dryly. He walked over to Renji, glancing at the scroll. “A ceremonial dagger, some trinkets, and a painting of a phoenix. This doesn’t look like the work of ordinary thieves.” “Tell me about it,” Renji muttered. “Feels too specific.”Yorusuke nodded thoughtfully. “This might be tied to that string of robberies we’ve been investigating. The Robin Hood group.” Renji’s eyes widened slightly. “You think so? But they haven’t hit an honorable noble before, just shady nobles and merchants.”“Maybe they’ve expanded their targets. Maybe someone’s trying to frame them, or maybe the Hojo clan is not a honorable as we all believe.” Yorusuke suggested. He tapped the scroll lightly. “Either way, we should start by inspecting Hojo’s gallery. He may have overlooked something important in his panic.” Renji groaned again but nodded. “Fine. But you’re coming with me. I’m not dealing with him alone.”“Fair enough,” Yorusuke said with a small smirk. Yorusuke couldn’t help but feel a flicker of excitement beneath his composed exterior. For all the monotony of paperwork, moments like this reminded him why he had joined the Gotei 13 in the first place. The thrill of uncovering the truth, of bringing justice to light—it was a calling he couldn’t ignore. And if they were dealing with the Robin Hood group, this investigation was bound to get interesting.

Renji sighed and tightened the string around his ponytail, flicking his hair back over his shoulder. "Alright, let's get this show on the road then. The sooner we finish this investigation, the sooner we can get back and--"
"Renji!" Came Izuru's voice from across the room.
Renji whipped his head around so fast his ponytail nearly took his own eye out as it swung around and snapped against his cheek. He winced and rubbed at his cheek. "Izuru? What're you doing here?"

Izuru bobbed and weaved through the Sixth Division members wandering around the room. His grey hood fell off his head and he shoved it back out of the way, stopping before Renji. "Sorry to grab you right as you're leaving, but I got something to report."
"C'mon man, can't this wait? We're up to our necks in it as it is," Renji groaned, running a hand down his face and placing his other hand on his hip. "I really don't need another thing on my plate right now."
"I get it, really I do, but I really think you'll want to hear this," Izuru nodded firmly. He pulled out a stack of papers from his shihakusho and handed them to his best friend and fellow lieutenant. "This is a detailed inventory list of a 'delivery' that was dropped off at Third Division's doorstep this morning."
Renji rolled his eyes and took the documents, scanning them without really reading them. "And what does this have to do with Sixth Division?"
Izuru lowered his voice, pulling his hood back up over his head, pulling it forward to block view of his mouth from prying eyes and ears. "Because the 'delivery' consisted of Gotei artifacts and relics, dating back all the way to the founding of the Gotei Thirteen. Just take a look at some of the items on that list."
Izuru watched as Renji scanned the documents again, his brows knitting together. It only took a moment for Renji's jaw to drop to the floor, whipping his head up to look at him with wide eyes. The blood drained from his face, and like Izuru had, Renji reached down instinctively for the hilt of Zabimaru. Izuru nodded slowly. "My thoughts exactly. They're real. And they're old. Really old and really dangerous."

“What’s going on here?” Yorusuke asked, taking the list from Renji as it was handed off. He glanced at the scroll while Renji and Izuru continued their discussion. The quiet focus on his face was characteristic, his sharp eyes scanning each item with precision.
After a moment, Yorusuke looked up from the list, his expression contemplative. “I think we should stop by the Third Division’s lock-up before we head to Hojo’s estate.”
Renji raised an eyebrow. “The lock-up? Why?”
Izuru seemed equally curious, tilting his head slightly.
Yorusuke didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he walked over to a nearby table, where he carefully laid out Izuru’s list of items alongside the scroll given to them by Hojo. Smoothing both documents flat, he stepped back and motioned for the two lieutenants to take a closer look.
“Take a look for yourselves,” he said simply.
Renji and Izuru leaned over the table, their eyes darting between the two lists. It didn’t take long for them to notice the connections.

"Holy shit," Renji breathed, placing a hand on his forehead as he compared the two lists. "There's no way that dumbass... Did he really just report Gotei relics as stolen property of his?"
It wasn't a perfect match, but at least a handful of the items were almost perfect matches between the two lists. They weren't particularly dangerous or coveted relics held by the Gotei, but they were important enough that it raised eyebrows for the items to be on both the list of items returned to the Gotei via Third Division and the list of items Hojo apparently had stolen. They were items that may not have been questioned when seen on Hojo's own inventory list, but when compared with those Third Division received, it raised some eyebrows.
"Ok, but wait..." Renji turned to Izuru. He held out his hand in suggestion. "What if the stuff you received was a batch of things taken from multiple noble clans? Maybe someone went around to the nobles' personal collections and played 'it belongs in a museum' or something? Your inventory could be an amalgamation of stolen relics that some do-gooder decided should be given back to the Gotei."

"Normally, I'd agree that's what it seems like, but..." Izuru pointed at the item on the Third Division list that said "Muramasa, Zanpakuto of deceased shinigami Koga Kuchiki". "This, along with the Daireisho tomes alone lets us know that these weren't just things the Gotei auctioned off or was lost relics due to some previous officer keeping them for themselves as a status symbol. Many of these items we know for a fact were in the Gotei's possession up until recently in Gotei history."
Renji hissed a curse and locked his fingers around the back of his neck, trying to pull the tension out of his neck and shoulders as he took a step back away from the inventory lists. "Shit, you're right. I really hate it when you're right. This whole thing stinks. Something's not right here."
Izuru nodded and turned to Yorusuke. "I think you're right, Nagano. You two should come with me and see the items for yourself. Then you can go to Hojo's and dig up what he knows about the relics he's reporting as 'stolen'."

Yorusuke nodded as he picked up the scroll, carefully rolling it back up with practiced ease. “Well, if anyone can get Hojo to talk, it’s Lt. Abarai and me,” he said with a faint smirk.
Handing Izuru’s list back to its owner, Yorusuke added, “We’ll stop by the lock-up for a quick look. Once we’ve confirmed a few things, we’ll take it to Hojo for a... little interrogation.”
His tone was calm, but the subtle glint in his eyes hinted at the persistence Hojo would soon face.

Izuru nodded with a half smirk and slipped the documents back into his shihakusho. "I look forward to reading your reports on the case. Here's to hoping its an open and shut case."
He pulled his hood further over his face and took a step back. "If you two need to gather your resources before you leave, feel free to do so. I'll be back at Third Division if you need me. You'll likely find me in the lock-up. We may have finished our inventory, but we still need to find out where most of this stuff was originally being held. We should have those reports for you as well by the end of today or tomorrow at the latest."

Renji clapped Izuru on the shoulder and nodded firmly. "Thanks, Blondie. We'll be over soon. No need to wait up for us."
Izuru gave a smile then turned and headed off back to his own division. Renji turned back to Yorusuke, crossing his arms. "So... what do you think? Think Hojo stole all that stuff and someone returned it to rat him out? Or are we looking at a bleeding heart who got their hands on all the Gotei relics that don't belong to the nobles and returned them to their rightful place? Cause I think we can agree that Hojo didn't return all that stuff just to turn around and cry wolf to us."

Yorusuke stood quietly for a moment, his gaze fixed on the rolled-up scroll in his hand. His expression remained calm, but there was a calculating sharpness in his eyes as he considered Renji’s question. “I don’t think it’s as simple as Hojo stealing the items himself,” Yorusuke said finally, his tone thoughtful. “If he were trying to cover his tracks, calling us in would be the last thing he’d do. It’s possible he’s being or was set up, but...” He trailed off, tapping the scroll lightly against his palm. Renji raised an eyebrow. “But what?”Yorusuke’s lips curved into a faint, humorless smile. “But Hojo’s no saint, and we know how these nobles like to play their games. If someone’s targeting him, it might not just be about the relics—it could be a move to humiliate him or expose something bigger.” Renji uncrossed his arms, his usual laid-back demeanor replaced by a serious one. “So, you’re saying we’ve got a thief with a grudge—or someone trying to send a message.”
“Maybe both,” Yorusuke replied. He glanced toward the door where Izuru had left. “But one thing’s clear: whoever’s behind this knows the value of what they took—and not just the monetary kind. They’re either an insider or someone with enough resources to piece it all together.” Renji let out a low whistle. “Great. A mystery thief with an agenda. Just what we needed. First the Robin Hood group and now this person--or group.”Yorusuke gave a dry chuckle. “We’ll figure it out. First, we confirm what’s at the lock-up. Then, we pay Hojo a visit and see what he’s not telling us.” Renji cracked his knuckles with a grin. “Can’t wait to hear his excuses.”“Let’s just hope we like the answers,” Yorusuke murmured as they headed out, the weight of the unfolding puzzle settling heavily on his shoulders.
