"Their...Their children?" Vale grunted, as his eyes began to glow a bright orange. He lunged at her, as Alister appeared and grabbed her by the throat. Vale grabbed the worn Ichimaru by the leg and pulled him away from the goddess.
"My son is not his!" shouted Vale as he drew his blade and pointed it at the goddess. Alister tightened his grasp on the goddess' neck. "And, he never will be! Are you so arrogant to think that you...you could change that?! Your job is to protect your vessel. But, I can promise you this."
Vale stepped closer to the goddess as she remained in Alister's grasp. "If he goes anywhere near my son...If Kita attempts to take my son from me...I will kill all of you. All. of. You." With his warning issued, Vale took a step back before dismissing Alister. After the god left, Vale pointed to the still wounded Ichimaru. "Give him back his memories. All of them. And, set him on the path of light. If he deviates from that path, even slightly, I will end him."
Growling as the goddess remained silent, Vale disappeared in a flash of shunpo.

"Arrogant Bastard," Sumi growled as she walked over to Ichimaru. She lifted her hand but was stopped as the Soul Reaper looked up at her his mouth opening to speak, but he said nothing. She looked around the garden as it was slowly rebuilding itself. She shook her head as she started to fade from sight. Gin slowly fading with her.
"Kita. You will be needed. You know where to find me."
Sumi vanished from sight as well, leaving the garden to its own doing.

"Interlude in the Garden":Her emotions were a thorny, bloody tangle after her meeting with Vale. Even if she had prepared herself. Still her head was on fire, her limbs heavy from the renewed heartache ripping into her pieced together psyche. Tears were still falling from her stinging eyes. And she had a strangle grip on Mizue no Kagami. She couldn’t face Yuzu’s questions like this. Yumiko turned away from the towers. And she couldn’t find Sousuke through her blade. She headed to the garden, the salty and dark scents of blood and tears surrounding her. But the riot of colors was only making it worse - reminding her what Soul Society had taken from her. Her family’s schemes. And the fleeting kindness of the head captains. Her betrayal to them to stay sane. She saw red again. Yumiko shook her head with a low moan and just gave up. Throwing Mizue no Kagami to the ground by the shore and tearing off all but her last layer, Yumiko dove into the lake. Seeking quiet. Silence. Sinking to the bottom, she wrapped her arms around herself. It was dark here… but not too dark. Her heart echoed around her. She closed her eyes and wrapped a kido bubble around herself. Determined to stay there until she had no choice but to surface.

Aizen entered the garden to speak with Szayel on a few different matters. Feeling the faint presence of Yumiko he looked around finding her nowhere. The closer he drew to the lake the stronger her reiatsu grew. He looked out to the center of the lake and shook his head.
"Foolish female." His hand extented in front of him a wordless kido released four golden roses as they plunged to the depths of the lake. Seconds later a kido bubble was lifted above the water's surface, Yumiko inside. As the bubble popped, he gently but swiftly pulled Yumiko from the lake, wrapping her in the kimono she had left behind.
"This is why I have told you to give up your emotions, Hime," he murmured, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.

Yumiko didn’t reply immediately, curling into his warm chest to further anchor herself. She hadn’t been down there long enough to be completely in control without making an effort. “I’m trying to cut them back to what matters,” she finally whispered, “but sometimes something happens that stirs everything up. I- ” She didn’t want to explain her confrontation with Vale. “I couldn’t let go of Mizue.”
Aizen tilted her head up. “Then we will work on that,” he told her, kissing her softly.
Yumiko smiled faintly in return, hesitated, and then wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a firmer kiss.

Breaking from the kiss once more he brushed more loose hair back from her face as he held her close with his other arm. "Have you been to the Maze?" Aizen asked her.
Yumiko blinked. "You told me to stay away from there, didn't you?"
"I need you to go there now. They need a healer and Kita is no longer allowed there for her actions when the Quincy attacked." He kissed her forehead. "Do you think you can do this for me?"
Yumiko nodded. “I think so. How long do you want me to be there?”
His head shook, "Do not exhaust yourself in one day. Heal who you can. Come back to me and get a good rest and then go back the next day. The reports I have gotten are two of them are in critical condition." He cupped her cheeks looking into her eyes. "You will be taking over Kita's position in healing the captives. Vale will not allow her back in the Maze and I think its best she is out of there as well." He pulled her into his arms, hugging her tightly. "If you don't feel as if you can do this I understand. Healing the captives can be a handful. You have seen what it does to Kita after a long day of it."

As Sousuke released her to hold her close, Yumiko looked down, gazing at the garden around her as her lover explained the situation before her.
“Kita probably shouldn’t be pushing herself to the limit with her getting further along in her pregnancy,” Yumiko murmured, looking out at the garden before her. She paused, considering. She could see… people she’d been trying to forget, too. But would that help or hinder her? She didn’t know. She pulled back from Aizen’s embrace. “I will do what I can. But can I ask one question before I go?” When Aizen nodded, she continued. “Why did you want me to stay away from there before?”

"Because you were having a hard enough time adjusting to everything. Going there and listening to them bad mouth me would not have helped you." He looked into her eyes. "Now would it?"
Yumiko sighed and shook her head.
"They have settled for the most part. I am sure you will still hear things you won't like hearing." He paused, "Like today's incident."
"What happened today?" she asked quietly.
"I went to the Maze to remove Ichimaru from the Maze. Separating him from Sojiro for his actions. Some did not like the idea of this. Like Kita. He is being punished for what they have done. As well, some did not like the news of Kita not returning to the Maze to heal them and I was attacked by a few. Even Sojiro had a hand in what took place. He is the only one I did not reprimand. Ichimaru was the only one to be removed, but Captain Hirabayashi was persistent in her attack since the others were helping her, causing me to have to remove her as well."
He brushed the hair from her face again. "Nothing that I am not used to, but you--" He kissed her forehead. "I would like to keep you away from things like that."

“Sojiro is still young,” Yumiko murmured, “so you would expect that he would try to prevent the separation of his family. And Hirayabashi is a mother.” She closed her eyes, recalling her Lord’s wishes on Kita’s family. He had granted them two weeks together which was more than he had originally planned, but Kita was her best friend. It was one tie that still remained important to her. Even more so when her emotions were still rocky. Aizen tilted her head up. “Remember what we have discussed on this matter, Hime. They had their chance to prove they could understand the situation together and they failed. Now, they will suffer less when they are separate and not a threat to me.
Yumiko nodded again. “I understand.” She paused. “What happened to Hirayabashi?”
“She will be punished according to her transgressions.”
Yumiko took a breath and looked up again. “I will do what I can in the Maze. I'm sorry I keep asking questions."

Aizen smiled warmly at her. "Its alright. I don't mind answering them if I know it will not upset you too badly, but you also need to understand that when they act out they are going to be punished."
He kissed her cheek, his words soft as he spoke again. "Just as the Soul Society punished you when wrong doings were done."

Yumiko growled and jerked back from him, her eyes narrowed. “I didn’t do anything wrong,” she hissed. “They had no right-” She turned around, lest she struck out against him, her eyes falling to her blade at their feet. She knelt down, running her hand over the bloody hilt and knelt over the lake, washing the blood away. “They had no right to take so much away….”

Aizen nodded, "Not by their understandings. They believed the punishment was fitting. Just as when I punish I believe the same. It may seem unfitting and unfair to the ones serving the punishment, but that is because they do not see the damage caused or what could be caused. They only see that they are suffering an unfair sentence. Ichimaru and Kitten are a couple that see and feel this now."
He walked up behind her his hand on her shoulder as she washed the hilt of her sword. "They don't understand that together they are poison. They serve a much better purpose separated. They think clearly and react to situations much differently. Their minds are not concerned with the others well being and what they might lose if they fail. This is the best for them and they will not see this until it is proved by their being apart."
He helped her stand once she was finished, turning her to look at him again. "When one reflects on their wrong doings then and only then is when they can see the truth of why their punishment was put into place, and can help them correct that so not to make the same mistake again and again."

Yumiko shook her head. “I don’t understand, Sousuke. I can see the logic behind your decision with Kita and Gin, even if I don't like it because of my friendship. But I don’t see what the comparison with them has to do with what happened to me in Soul Society.” She lowered her head. “I was young and just experiencing the awakening of my blade. My lack of control that one night was no reason for locking me up for nearly a century.” She turned and looked out at the lake, wrapping her kimono tighter around her. “I didn’t even have a chance. They just labeled me a threat. I thought you said it was an injustice? Why are you agreeing with them now?"

"I disagree with how they did it. Not that they did it. Ignorance is not bliss and that is what they showed with what they did to you. They locked away something they did not understand. Instead of learning how to help you they cast you away into darkness." He kissed the top of her head and stepped back slightly with her hand in his.
"Do you understand what I am saying?" He asked her.

Yumiko sighed, leaning against him as he turned them towards the path to the lab. “I may,” she murmured. “You’re saying that it was necessary - similar to Ukitake-san - but for different reasons. They should have acknowledged the danger I was and found a way to channel my power, not hide me like… like I was a curse.”
