Yumiko sighed at the sorrow emanating from the young girl’s voice and the resignation in slumped form. It was as if Makino had become to accept the bad things that were happening around her as a fact of life now. And that she wouldn’t escape. She recognized the dejected picture before her all too well.
As herself.
Yumiko took the last few steps between them and took her hand with her free one before speaking quietly. “Let’s talk inside your room, but please remember, as I speak, that your mother and father are no longer in danger. Your eldest brother left his room to return to his duties in spite of the attack on him in your defense. And that the Gods returned Captain Ukitake to us after the attack. Don’t let what has gone wrong hurt you too deeply.”
Or he will get a hold on you.

Makino nodded slowly feeling her heart grow heavy as she turned in place and she and Yumiko walked to her room. "Do you think his mother will bring him back?" She looked to her side where Yumiko was walking beside her.
"She did tell me that she would protect him and would not allow him to stay in Las Noches no matter if Aizen deems it or not. She would not have Sojiro there."
Yumiko nodded. "I believe she will. And I don't believe Aizen or her husband have the power to prevent her from doing what she wishes." She paused as the neared her room. "Does that help ease your heart?" Makino smiled warmly at her, "knowing Sojiro's mother is the vessel of the Seraph scares me and puts me at ease all in the same breath." She chuckled lightly. "Its hard to explain, but of all things. I know his mother will protect him even if it means her own death."

"Mid-Morning R & R" continued:"Don't go too far down the hall," Byakuya called after them. "As if I can with the way you guys won't leave me alone!" Makino hissed back."Makino Masanobu, you are going to apologize."
"If you had followed orders, you wouldn't be in this situation, now would you?" Kin retorted after his mother's demand.Sojiro blinked as his girlfriend gave her family and the captain an irate look before tugging him roughly out of the room. They stumbled with her crutches but managed. And the door closed behind them. Makino looked to Yumiko for a moment and then turned in the other direction. She took a breath, her hands clenched under her support. Sojiro watched her.Kadaj stomped his foot. "All sad. Me no yike." He pulled on Yumiko's sleeve. "No sad. I fis it."Yumiko lifted Kadaj up into her arms and kissed his cheek, whispering something into the boy's ear before looking to Sojiro. "I'll go over there and play with our sweetheart so you two can have some privacy." Sojiro nodded, followed his aunt and brother with his eyes for a little bit, and then turned back around to Makino. Her face was flushed with rage, and probably embarrassment. She had just been caught nearly screaming at her family. Sojiro took one of her crutches from her and placed her arm around his shoulder. Makino led them further down the fall and pushed a door open to an empty room. Helping her inside, Sojiro closed the door. He set the crutches aside and wrapped his arms around her.
"It seems I came at a bad time," he murmured, kissing her ear. "I'm sorry for that."

"More like a good time," her body tingled from his kiss relieving some of her tension. She sighed softly and tried to relax but it just would not come to her. "They are treating me like I am the bad guy here. I can't return back to the Academy. I can't leave the manor grounds. I get in trouble for just walking two feet from my room here in the hospital."
She huffed. "I hate it."

Sojiro chuckled and stroked her hair, other hand falling to her waist. “You’re cute when you’re mad. You know that?” She puffed out a breath and he laughed quietly as he kissed her neck. He waited for her to relax against him again.
“It’s not a bad thing, Maki-Hachi. The war is finally over. Aizen is gone. Las Noches has been destroyed by my mother’s hand. And nobody wants to lose anymore people. Also, your brush with Aizen scared them. Even if you came back. It scared me. And I know too well how lucky you’ve been.”
He pulled back a bit and gave her a small kiss on her cheek. “You’re precious to them. They want to protect you.” His hands joined at her back and pulled her closer to him, his eyes soft azure. “I want to, too. And I’m sorry that meant not speaking to you. I didn’t mean to shut you out. Well,” he turned aside and rubbed the back of his head, “I did and I didn’t.” He sighed and shut his eyes. “I didn’t want to see you hurting more than you already were with your family. And I was used to keeping it to myself."
"Was?" Makino asked.
Sojiro nodded. "It seems wrong to keep things from you. It did before, too. But there was enough going on and I could ignore that feeling in my gut."

"You don't have to ignore it Sojiro. I am here to help you even if it is only to lean on. An ear to listen and shoulder to cry on." She leaned back some and looked into his eyes with a soft smile.
"And don't play all tough and tell me you don't cry. I know better. You can try to hide it all you want, but I know better. It don't make you any less a man by crying. It shows you have a heart and you care." She leaned in and kissed the corner of his mouth.
"As for my family they are just being over protective and it is starting to drive me insane. My mother has never been like this before. Yes, she worried about me when I was out on jobs, but never has she been this crazy."

“Well, right now, I think they can be as overprotective as they want. You can’t protect yourself well with your legs still healing slowly.”
Makino stuck her tongue out at him and he caught it. Makino let out a little moan and Sojiro tangled his hand in her hair, pulling her against him for a long kiss. Makino’s leg wrapped around his, and he groaned, recalling where they were and who was outside the door he currently had his girlfriend pressed against.
Releasing her lips, he sucked against her neck, leaving a mark, and then laid his head against her chest. “I will do my best to tell you from now on, Maki-Hachi, but it’s a bad habit. And there was a lot going on. My dad was gone, and this time, it seemed permanent. Mom was in Las Noches and didn’t seem to be coming back. Daj was in Las Noches at three years old when I still carry nightmares from my time there. And then…. they came back. I didn’t want to leave them. And….” he shook his head, “it’s not all over for my family.”
He sighed and pulled back. “I’ll come visit you after class and talk to you more then. Am I allowed to visit?”

Makino let her fingers comb through his silver hair as she nodded her head. "Yes, Mom said you were welcome to even stay with us on the weekends if you wanted, but now that your family is back with you I guess that will be a bit before you want to do that."
His head lifted with a confused look. "Well you're going to want to be with them. After all, it has been awhile since you have really gotten to spend time with them. Right?" She sighed softly.
"Maybe when I am released from my prison I can come visit them with you."

Sojiro’s momentary dark mood vanished at Makino’s gloomy phrasing of her predicament. He chuckled and embraced her. “I’d hardly call your home a prison, darling. And I will make room for you. Yes, I will be with my family a lot. But I can’t smother them. And I missed you.” He kissed her. “A lot. And I owe you.” He kissed her again. “For worrying you.”

"Well I knew you were alive. Just not sure of your well being or any other in your family. I heard about your father from one of the nurses, but other then that I was at a loss for any other information."
She wrapped her arms around him tighter embracing him in a hug. "I was afraid you were going to come by here after I was gone. Then go to my room when they told you I was released, not finding me there either and then start to freak out after what happened to Allura."
Sojiro cocked his head and looked at her with puzzling eyes. "What happened to Allura and is she alright?"
Makino sighed heavily, "Yukio went to go see her the other night and could not find her, she just disappeared and still no one has found her. Riku also came to me the same night and told me even more bad news."

Sojiro’s frown deepened as Makino went on to explain about Kaemon being arrested in suspicion of helping the thugs kidnap girls in the Academy due to a huge commotion caused by Etsuya and how Riku had been affected. And though he worried for his best friend, he felt some relief at the way he had been shanghaied by Captain Tsukiro for his resulting heroics. That left Kaemon. He held Makino close, wondering what his classmate may have relayed to those men in the short time he had been a student and why he would do that.
“I'm sorry I was away when this happened.”

Makino shook her head. "It's alright. I just wish I knew more of what was going on with Allura. No one has told me anything since I reported this. So I am assuming it is all bad news and they don't want to worry me over it, or afraid I will go looking for her myself."
Sojiro rubbed noses with her. "To be honest, if Aizen wasn't such a huge threat and you could get there on your own -- without the enemy kidnapping you, you would have attempted to come after me. There is a reason for them to worry in this circumstance."
Makino sighed, "I know I have not been the most upstanding when it came to their request to stay out of sight, but I am no fool. I know I can't handle these guys with only one leg. I was face to face with them at one time. The four Allura and I met were not soul reapers and their reiatsu..." she chuckled softly. "Your little brother's reiatsu is stronger than theirs."

Sojiro didn’t laugh, his eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of his brother’s powers. “You shouldn’t judge them based on Kadaj.” Noting his tone, Makino tilted her head. Sojiro sighed. “His power is concealed most of the time. But it is not something to be underestimated. I won’t say more without my family’s permission for his sake. I hope you don't mind."

Makino smiled nodding her head. "I am only going by what I notice with the little one. I can feel his reiatsu like any other. And I am judging the men by what I saw with them them that day. My brothers pushed them relatively far. They were not happy in any way when they were finally forced to walk away. If they wouldn't have they would not stood a chance against my brothers. So there is no way they will survive if and when a Gotei member gets a hold of them."
She leaned in and kissed his cheek, "but don't worry. I'm not going anywhere near them. I just want a little more freedom then what they are allowing me. You should never cage a bird."

Sojiro smiled at that. "No they should not, but if that bird is injured, it is for her own good." He turned her in his arms, making her giggle slightly and hold onto him. He smirked. "I wouldn't drop you." And kissed her one more time. His smile gentled. "I'll bring something to cheer you up tonight."
Makino beamed. "I'll hold you to that date."
Sojiro nodded and then looked away when his brother giggled. "One more thing before we go... don't mention Shina to Yumiko." Makino's own smile faded and Sojiro felt awful for dimming it. But someone else would tell her. "She ... was Aizen's final illusion."
