"I don't appreciate being lumped together with Central or the Ryouma clan, goddess," he retorted tightly. Shunsui lifted his head. "Some here did what they could to make that prison sentence something bearable and kept fighting to get it removed. Perhaps we waited too long to begin that process, but the fact ramains that her power did almost kill her the first time she used it. Yama-jii, Juushiro, and myself did not just stand aside and let it happen."
His shoulders lifted angrily then fell as he let his rage over that issue fade once again. "I hope you're right about Ichimaru being able to end him, goddess. You're asking me to trust a man who continues to betray hopes each time he commits an action. In addition, you are asking me to hold back others whose lives have been devoted to this fight as much or more so than that man."

"We all have done things we are not pleased with. You yourself just stated that." She turned looking at the commander once more. "Is Ichimaru beyond that reasoning? He does what he must. No matter how unorthodox it is to any one person's standards." She cast her eyes down and spoke softly.
"Just as I will do things I will not be pleased with if I am forced to do so." She looked back up to the commander. "Does that make me a bad person? Because if it does, then you, Commander, are no better than I for what you let happen to Yumiko."

Shunsui sighed heavily, lowering his head. “I don’t know if you’re condemning me and my mentor or forgiving the both of us, and I think that’s part of your point,” he muttered. “I have to decide myself.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “There’s also the fact that I highly doubt Yama-jii would be happy to have his mistakes compared to Ichimaru’s, but you’re going to have me keep that in mind.” He lifted his head again. “Is there anything you want to know from this side of the war to bring back to your vessel? And is she likely to use those powers on us for attempting to take her life?”

"Again you missed the point of what I was saying." Sumi sighed folding her arms down in front of her. "Does it matter if I forgive you or not? It is not my forgiveness you seek. It is not I that can condemn you. It is yourself and Yumiko that will be your Judge, Juror and Executioner. If you can finally get that forgiveness of what has been done..." She looked slightly over her shoulder. "Then does it matter what anyone else thinks or says?"
She turned back looking at the festivities. "Do you have any plans of action you intend to put in place? Besides that crazy thought that you or anyone could harm my vessel?"

Shunsui rubbed the back of his neck again, feeling like he was getting a lecture from Nanao-chan, a colder, not touchable version of her. She's got the wrong eyes too, he murmured to himself. For a moment, he was distracted. How long am I am going to survive without touching?
"Kisuke is going to try to ensnare Azayaka," the commander stated a few moments later, voice calm. "At the moment, the only other plan is wait for Sousuke to show with Yumiko so we can see the damage for ourselves."

Sumi nodded. "Both things Aizen will make sure Kita is involved in to stop you." She turned half way and gave him a side glance. "Commander..." She grew silent.
Cocking his head he looked to her. "Yumiko no longer remembers the Gotei 13 or its inhabitants. Aizen has erased all but a few memories to help her with her powers. She will not be easy to win back."
When he lowered his head clutching his hat, a low growl emitted from him. Sumi walked over resting her hand to his shoulder. "She can be returned to the Yumiko you remember. However, it will not be an easy road for any of you. Even after her memories return."

Before the commander could speak on it, a new voice entered the conversation. "Yumiko Ryouma is a noble. By definition, her path wasn't going to be easy," Byakuya interjected as he walked towards them. He inclined his head to both his commander and the goddess then continued. "That is even more so the truth with her powers. The actions of the commander now and before may have seemed wrong but it was also an attempt to prevent her being used as a pawn for anyone before she was could defend herself. Sousuke's actions are a separate matter."

Sumi only chuckled as the noble approached them. She turned her attention to him. "Being a noble has nothing to do with this, Byakuya Kuchiki. Be it noble or commoner, the damage caused by the Gotei 13, Aizen undid in a matter of months... It is teaching someone the right and wrong way with anything, that is the right way. Locking them up and sealing them away from what is important to them does nothing but breed hatred, distrust and despair. In turn you create your nemesis with such actions."
She stepped toward him and looked into his cold eyes. "It was uncalled for to have her sealed and locked away for so many decades." She turned looking at the commander. "If you were that scared of her powers, then why not just destroy them?" She then looked between them. "You would have done it if it were a commoner."
When neither could answer her she only shook her head. "All things are created equal gentlemen. It is only man's feeble mind that labels things... Trying to make it greater than what it really is."

"Thank you for the advice, lady goddess," Juushiro murmured as he came up, making the commander start then look away guiltily. The captain sighed. He knew why. Face pale, expression drawn, he couldn't hide what he had heard about Yumiko from their divine messenger; nonetheless, determination glinted in his verdant eyes and in his walk as he continued to walk over to his oldest friend. With a gentle smile, he reset the hat on his head then turned to the goddess.
"We made a mistake. You aren't the first to tell us this, and you won't be the last," he stated. "However, where our protection ended and our mistake began is not something easily discovered since I believe the truth lies somewhere in between the opinions expressed on this matter. Perhaps the only one who could answer this is Yumiko when she is returned here." He sighed then offered her a courteous smile. "I thank you for delivering this information to us. It will give Sousuke one less weapon to use against us."

Shunsui chuckled. I stand by what I have always believed. He would have been a better leader than me. Setting a hand on his friend's shoulder in gratitude, he faced the icy goddess one more time. "You never asked if Kita is our enemy in heart now due to our attempt or if she is still a friend," he stated politely. "Does that mean it is unclear?"

Sumi smiled kindly at Juushiro and nodded, "the voice of reason always prevails." Her attention then turned to the commander.
"Kita is your enemy. Even if I were to return her memories right now. She would still be your enemy. The bond between her and Ichimaru has grown too great. I do not expect you to treat her any different than you do her master or Aizen at this point. She will do what they tell her to do. Only because she protects the one she loves and believes in. She will not let any harm befall her master."
"But a Seraph cannot kill." Byakuya replied. Sumi looked at the two captain's then back to the commander. "As I have told the Commander. A Seraph cannot kill." She looked back to Byakuya. "However, Kita is not a Seraph. She is my vessel and human. The more control she gains the more powerful she will become. If pushed and you endanger her master. She will lash out and someone will die." An almost evil smile crossed her lips. "And they won't be able to stop her."
"Then what do we do?" Juushiro asked.
Sumi looked to Juushiro. "Stay away. Let the ones in Las Noches handle the battle with Aizen. By getting involved you only risk more lives with Kita now gaining control of my powers. I can promise you this much. I can keep Aizen at bay and away from the Gotei 13. He has no reason to come here and attack until Kita has gained control of the time riff in all three realms. Until then, keep your soul reapers away from Las Noches."

As Shunsui lowered his head sighing and Byakuya's eyes narrowed, Juushiro decided to reply for them once again. "It will be difficult to persuade Kisuke to give up this fight and wait, but I will try to convince him."
Shunsui spoke up then. "For one year only," he growled. "This is not something I can leave alone for any longer than that."
Juushiro nodded, trying to ignore the clench in his heart. Another full year of failing the both of them. "If we don't see something changing in a year, we will craft an assault, even if it is dangerous. Our honor will demand it," he stated firmly.

"Fair enough. One year and if you do not see results in which you are pleased with I will not stand in your way to do whatever it is you feel necessary."
She turned from them and started to walk away. "Just remember. It is not just Aizen you will be dealing with if you invade Las Noches."

"That would be foolish on our parts," Captain Kuchiku muttered as she vanished. The noble bowed to them both before retreating.
The action made the commander chuckle. "I think he didn't want to be questioned for interfering on the Gotei's behalf," he noted then turned fully to examine his friend. "How much did you hear?" he asked.
"I heard about Aizen erasing her memories," Juushiro replied simply.
Shunsui sighed. "I didn't want you to hear that," he muttered. Shaking his head, he walked over and leaned against the tree again. "You were supposed to be enjoying the party and the carefree happiness that comes with it as long as you could."
Juushiro held a hand up. "We can do that after. Tell me what she told you."
Shunsui fell silent then stood. "She's going to aid Ichimaru in defeating Aizen and wants us to back down. If you insist on the details, I will tell you later. Isn't your cake coming out soon?"
Juushiro chuckled. "Very well, old friend," he said as he fell in beside him. "I will leave the matter for now, but I want you to realize that it's not all on your shoulders."
"Was I that bad at hiding my melancholy or did someone send you?"
"A bit of both. Mutsu-chan said something about ruining her good work if someone didn't come find you, and you had been gone too long." An inquisitive look settled on his best friend's features. "What did she mean by that, if you don't mind asking."
Just like that, the troubles on his shoulders were forgotten as he recalled one clear terrible thing. I can't touch my Nanao-chan...

Walking with Izuru and Hisagi, Rangiku walked in on the party. Wearing a bright smile and her Gotei 13 uniform she looked around at all the guests that had already arrived before them. They all looked so happy and carefree chatting and laughing, enjoying the wonderful food and atmosphere Captain Ukitake and his division had so well set into place for the party. The decoration were beautiful streamers and lanterns all different colors to brighten the mood. She smiled warmly and waved at a few that waved to her.
