"Clarity in the Darkness":
Kita followed behind Isane as she lead them to a private room. Kita looking back at the silent Toshiro as they moved along. She smiled warmly at him reaching back with her hand and took his hand into hers.
At that instance a connection between them was made. "Talk to me Toshiro. What's wrong?"

Toshiro looked up at her and then looked away again. How could he tell Kita what he was thinking with out hurting her feelings. In the end he got what he needed. Mortality. After all what reason did he need immortality for anyway. Everything he had was gone. Momo's innocence, Rangiku's laziness that kept him on his toes and from overworking, his best friend, his zanpakuto, and her. He wanted to be human for a while.....
The entered the room and Toshiro closed the door behind him before Isane could ask them any questions or bother him in any way. He crossed to the bed and sat down with a very heavy sigh. "I need to get away....."

Kita looked at him as he sat on the bedside, slowly she walked over and sat on the bed next to him. "To get away from what? The Soul Society? Pushing that God that way could have given you more than you bargained for. Trust me. I know. I deal with one on a daily bases."
Kita heard Sumi huff in the background as she giggled softly. "You know I am right, Sumi. You're a bitch when you want to be."
"Yes, I can be. However, you nor the ones I have to deal with are exactly perfect either."
Kita smiled warmly as she looked at Toshiro. His eyes were sad and drained of life, the spark she remembered seeing there once before had faded. Her smile fading slightly as she took his hand in hers and gave it a gentle squeeze.
Toshiro said nothing as he shifted and laid down on the bed behind her, his back to her. Kita sighed and shifted as well so she could look at him. His hands were tucked under his head as he looked at the wall in front of him.
"Toshiro... Please talk to me. I know I am not Momo, your best friend, but I can help. Even it is just to listen." She gently rested her hand to his arm. "Please..."
Toshiro didn't look at her but finally replied, "I'm tired of losing things."
Kita sighed lowering her head, her hand sliding from his arm. She tried hard not to think of everything she had lost as of the last two years. "Toshiro. I know as well as anyone what it is like to lose things that mean the world to us. I have suffered as well. I have lost things I did not think could ever be taken from me." She paused as she thought. "My dignity, my morals, Gin and my parents. For what? So one man could have his way?" She shook her head, "No. Things happen for a reason, and what happen to me was not to better Aizen's or Vale's cause. It was done to better me in some way. Even though it is not clear as of why. It happened for a reason, in my case, I believed it was to make me stronger."

"But it is different for everyone, Kita and we all have to cope in our own way." Sumi spoke to both of them again.
Kita sighed again, "I know that. I am not an idiot. He just needs to know he does have someone to talk to. Even if I can't help, though I will try my best. He at least has someone to listen to him."
"Then tell me what I am supposed to learn from this," he mumbled. "My best friend was killed, Momo's...... been hurt. Again. I'm a captain, a child genius, and yet I can't do anything. Again." He paused. "And Rangiku's changing, but I can't be happy for it." He fell silent once more. "They were right to fear me in the districts. I cause nothing but calamity."
Kita shook her head. "I don't know Toshiro. I wish I did. I am not even sure that the things that happened to me was to make me stronger. It was just something I lacked in. I relied on other," she sighed, "too much if you ask me, and I did not realize it until I was helpless in Las Noches." Her head shook again as she wrung her hands in her lap. "I don't want to be like that. I don't want to be a burden." She looked to Toshiro. "Maybe... Maybe its to teach you how to relay on others. You're so independent and so... withdrawn. You bottle everything up until... Well... until something like this finally happens."
Toshiro was silent longer this time. "I am not coming back to Soul Society until I find what I am lacking. If I can't save those who matter, then I don't belong being a captain, an example, or a prodigy. I deserve to be a nobody.... But I know that can't last either. Or I would have stayed in Rukon with grandma.... and Momo." Toshiro sat up and looked to Kita. "I can't support anyone like this."

Kita nodded leaning toward Toshiro she wrapped her arms around him as he stiffened, giving the stiff Captain a hug she then moved back from the embrace. "I am sorry, Toshiro. If I could have stop any and all of this I would have."Toshiro shook his head. "Nothing's your fault. I wanted to get this from the god, and I did. And the other things.... you're not a god, Kita. You're human, which is good. Maybe it will be good for me too." He turned away again, folding his arms and blushing. "Are we done here?" Kita nodded with a sad look in her eyes. She felt bad for Toshiro. There was nothing good about being human, and that was exactly what he was now. He was deluding himself, there was nothing good about it. Not after what she had found out about what really goes on on their world. There was nothing good about being ignorant to the rest of life. Ignorant to Souls, Hollows or Gods. Being a lower life form was not good at all. However, if ignorance was bliss. The humans surely had the corner on that one.
Sitting in silence for the rest of their time together, Kisuke finally came to retrieve Toshiro to take him back to the shop. In leaving Kisuke told Kita to get some rest. She was needed and if she collapsed from exhaustion, she would be no help to anyone. She only nodded as she watched the two exit the room, closing the door behind them.

"Interlude with Friends":Arms filled with a large plastic bowl of watermelon, Suzume skipped down the white-washed hallways towards the room with her captain. There may be chaos in Karakura, shadows in areas due to the still comatose captain Soi Fong, and commotion around the First Division for some reason, but her Captain had nearly killed the Ayakashi that had been plaguing them all. That called for celebration.
She pouted for a moment. Even if he had left her behind to do something secretive. That had been rude.
Her mood peeked again at seeing a familiar shape ahead of her, carrying some calla lilies and a wrapped gift in her hand.
"MOMO!!!!!!" she squealed, throwing the bowl in the air and jumping.
Her best friend whirled and dropped her gifts as Suzume leaped on top of and snuggled against her.
"Yay, someone is still the right size," she purred.
A few feet away, the bowl of watermelon rolled, still covered by the tight lid - thanks to Rangiku's quick thinking.

"Right sized?" asked Momo, a bright smile on her face. She chuckled as Suzume pulled away from the joyful hug, and skipped toward the bowl. Giggling as Suzume fumbled with the bowl, Momo picked up her own gifts and sat them down on a nearby bench. She sat beside them.
"Saved by Rangiku again, I see."
Suzume nodded quickly, finally getting a firm grasp on the bowl.

"I still can't believe that Toshiro's become a giant," Suzume quipped, snuggling into her friend's shoulder. "That's what I mean by right size. He's supposed to stay small like us." She stayed like that for a few moments and then sat up. "So what book did you get him?" she asked.
"I didn't-"
"Momooooo," Suzume pouted. "He's not here. Telllll meeeee."
She stood up and jumped in front of her. "Come on, he'll probably hide it like all the rest of the good gifts."

"It's a picture book." Momo admitted. "I grew restless in my waiting for him to return. I took up drawing, in my spare time." Momo picked up the wrapped book, and held it close. "My instructor told me that I had a talent and that I should save him some of my drawings. So, I did..."
Momo shook her head, releasing the book and poking Suzume in the arm. "What else did you bring him?"

"What if I just brought him watermelon?" Suzume murmured in return. As Momo chuckled and shook her head, not believing her, Suzume pursed her lips, pouting, before looking around them and pulling out a small wrapped package. "He started watching the card game I did in my spare time. I thought I'd get him a set since he won't ask me how to play it."

Toshiro leaned against the door post, a smile on his tired face. His smile grew as he looked down on the two women. "Isn't that sweet of you, Suzume."
Pushing himself out of the doorway, he shuffled over to the two women. He leaned over, first kissing Momo on the forehead. Then, Suzume. "It's great to see the two of you." He sighed, his smile fading slightly. "I apologize for being away for so long. I did not intend to worry either of you."

Momo shook her head and dropped her gift. Quickly pulling on his kimono, Momo wrapped Toshiro in a warm embrace. "I'm...I'm glad you're back." Releasing Toshiro from the hold she had on him, she adjusted his kimono.
"Suzume, you're right." she giggled "He has gotten taller."
Toshiro groaned, running his fingers through his hair. "What's wrong with me being a bit taller?"
"This is more than a bit." Momo continued to giggle as she looked up at Toshiro. "I say, you're taller than Rangiku, now."

Suzume nodded quickly. “Yes, he is. I measured him.”
Toshiro blinked. “When did you do that?”
Still smiling, she lowered her head and shuffled her feet. “When you passed out from Captain Kotetsu’s painkillers,” she whispered. “Captain Kotetsu… asked for my help…. since I didn’t think you looked right…..and was there.....” She jumped back a foot, suddenly hiding the bowl of watermelon behind her. “And you can’t do anything about it or you won’t get your treat!”

Shunpoing forward, Toshiro grabbed a hold of Suzume's shoulders, lifting her slightly. He kissed her firmly, smiling as he released her. "I don't think that you can take that back."
He turned to Momo, who sat blushing on the bench. "You took up drawing?" Kneeling in front of Momo, he offered his hand. "May I see?" He turned around quickly at the sound of a bowl shattering.

Suzume sat on the ground, watermelon splattered around her from delayed kido spark and face red as the fruit itself. She couldn’t think. She couldn’t speak. She just sat there, the kiss going through her mind over and over. Along with the warm jolt from before - when she had tripped over a chord and landed on his chest.
“I don’t think you can take that back,” his smug voice echoed on.
She squeaked and quickly stood, no, skidded on the mess. “Help! Kissing Giant!”
