"Disharmony":Ryo woke slowly, her ears and head ringing from the nights terrors. Nightmares plagued her during the night. While, restlessness tortured her days. She tucked herself beneath Sajin's haori, not wanting to leave the warmth of their bed. She smiled at the gentle gnawing of Sakuma at her fingertips. Peeking from beneath the haori, Ryo saw the toothy grin of her puppy. Shunsui pulled back the haori, giggling. "Mum mum mum!" "Puppy sleep!" shouted Sakuma, pouncing on his father and gnawing on his ear. "Puppy! Up!" Ryo reached over and tugged on Sakuma's ear. "Let the puppy sleep, little one." Sajin reached behind him grabbing the puppy and picking him up. He growled playfully at him as Sakuma nipped at his nose. Sakuma wiggled out of his father's grasp and scurried out the door. Ryo tapped Shunsui's bottom as he followed his brother's lead. "Scoot, you two." She sighed as the sound of the boys footsteps faded away. "Can we talk?"

Sajin's playful growl turned to one of annoyance. Sitting up, he turned and looked to his wife. "I can't stop your nightmares. You won't tell me what they are about. You know where I stand on your recovery, Ryo."
"You want me to step down as Captain." replied Ryo.
"Then, what is there to talk about?" questioned Sajin with a huff.

"Every conversation doesn't have to result in you demanding that I step down!" snapped Ryo. Tossing the haori to the side, Ryo ignored the cold of the floor as she rose from bed. She walked over to her husband and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I just want your help with these nightmares, Sajin. I'm tired of waking up terrified. I'm tired of not being able to spend my nights with my husband and days with my children." "I told you that I would protect you, Ryo." Sajin gently pushed Ryo away. "Yes well, you've done a lovely job so far." Ryo snapped as she turned her back to him. Sighing as Sajin rose from their bed in anger and left the room. She turned, shedding a tear at the emptiness of the room. |

"Filler: Bath Time":The Captain lay waiting, hiding behind a tall chest. She nodded to her husband hiding in the doorway of a room across the hall. They waited in silence, a cool breeze filled their home. Looking back to her husband, she nodded as claws scratching against floor boards and growling began to echo in the hallway. Watching closely, Ryo exhaled slowly as she peeked from around chest. Her eyes narrowed at the sight of him. It was bath time.

Sajin crouched down, readying himself for the terror scrambling down the hallway. Pulling a towel from his shoulder, Sajin opened it up as he darted from the doorway. Nearly catching the naked terror, Sajin growled as Sakuma slipped out of the towel and continued on his path down the hallway.
Twisting the towel in his hands, Sajin chuckled and nodded to his wife. "Go get him!"

Ryo shook her head as she pushed off of the wall and started after the little puppy. Standing at the end of the hallway, she starred at the naked Sakuma shimmying and giggling at the other end of the hallway.
"No catch me!" he yelled, turning and shaking his tail at his mother.
Ryo grunted as the dancing puppy took off again. "I've got your shimmy, young man." she said, before disappearing in a flash of shunpo.

Shunsui shuffled down the hall. Stopping in front of his father, who sat on the floor, Shunsui patted his arm. He smiled, looking up to his father. "The puppy naked." he said holding up the tiny kimono of his brother. "Smelly puppy. Ew!"
Tossing the kimono to the floor as his father lifted him to his shoulder. "Lets go get the smelly pup, hm?" Sajin walked down the hallway, following after his wife. He stopped in the middle of the hallway, pulling Shunsui from his shoulder and setting him to the floor.
He crouched over, catching the naked Sakuma as he sprinted down the hall. The puppy squealed and squirmed in his grasp. "Got ya!"
"No!" shouted Sakuma, opening his mouth wide and clamping down on his father's hand.
Sajin let go of Sakuma, hopping to his feet as he scurried back down the hall.

Coming from around the corner, Ryo scooped up the puppy. She held tightly, as he continued to squirm and even try to bite her.
"No!" he shouted. "I not want a bath! I puppy!"
Tossing Sakuma to his father, Ryo shook her head. "Puppy's take baths too, you know."
"They don't!" he giggled, as his father held him upside down by his tail. "Daddy puppy smell all time."
"I do not!" demanded Sajin, gently tugging on the puppy's tail.
"Do too!"
"Ok fine." replied Ryo, walking over and poking the bare tummy of her puppy. "But, you smell like you were outside rolling around in bug juice."
"I was." answered Sakuma with a big grin.

Sajin chuckled, turning Sakuma right side up. "Don't think you're the only one getting a bath. Your brother..." Sajin looked around for Shunsui. Not finding him, he called for him.
"Shunsui Komamura. Do not make me chase you, too." Sajin looked to Ryo. "If you don't come out, I will hang your brother from a torch hook and come after you."

Ryo laughed at the threat. "I don't think he would mind being hung upside down." Hearing something dragging, Ryo walked to the open door. "What are you doing young man?" She looked on as the little boy slowly dragged in a wooden bucket of spilling water.
Dragging the bucket over to his brother as he set him to the floor, Shunsui grunted at the weight of the bucket. He stopped by his brother. "Smelly puppy!"
"I not smelly!"
"Smelly...Puppy!" Shunsui grunted a he lifted the bucket. "Take bath!"

Sajin burst into laughter as Shunsui lifted the bucket, pouring what little water was left in the bucket on himself instead of his brother. Sakuma fell to the ground, giggling at his brother.
"No bath for puppy!" he giggled, still laughing at his brother.
Shunsui pulled off his wet clothing and threw them at Sakuma hitting him right in the face.
"You stink..." mumbled Shunsui, plopping to the floor. "You...Stink!"

"Dawning Days": (Continued) Ryo sat in a spare room of her family's home. She spent every day of the last three weeks in that room. Her nights, she spent cuddled against Sajin, who would sneak into the room during the night just to hold her close. Turning slightly, she picked up the saucer sitting next to her. Ryo smiled weakly at Sakuma, who sat quietly beside her. He would sit with her, some days, and not say anything. He simply wished to be with his mother. "Are you going to speak?" asked Ryo. Sakamu shook his head, hiding his clawed hands in his lap. Ryo sighed, turning her head toward the partially open window. "Things will get better, honey. I promise. I just...Need time." Sakuma rose from the floor with a grunt. Without saying a word, he left the room. A tear fell from Ryo's eye as she placed the saucer back at her side. "Will it get better?" Ryo stood and faced the door. "Sajin?" "It will." answered Sajin. He walked over to his wife, kneeling down in front of her. Wrapping his arms around her, Sajin sighed. "You've been gone for a year. Three weeks is not enough time to build that bond. Sakuma stopped speaking almost immediately. Shunsui, he is very much like the man is named after.""Ever the optimist." Ryo chuckled. "But, its over now." Ryo curled into Sajin, letting his warmth wash over her. "Give it time, Ryo." whispered Sajin. "Give it time."Fade

"Ruined":Sajin woke to find his wife's bare form curled against him. Brushing her hair from her face, Sajin smiled. She was beautiful. And, for the first time in a month, she stayed by his side throughout the night. Perhaps, it was because Sakuma had finally spoken to her. They all smiled and enjoyed the moment.
But, as Sakuma opened up, Shunsui began to distance himself. The news of his mother being with child bothered him.
Sajin placed a hand to Ryo's belly. "He will be loved..." whispered Sajin. "Unconditionally...As we love our own." Sajin rose slowly, so not to wake Ryo. He dressed quickly, grabbed his zanpakuto and headed to the garden where he would find his sons.

"The Bird":Saburou watched as a bird landed on the porch. He smiled as the bird tilted its head back and forth. "Hi, bir!" he shouted, frightening the bird. Saburou pouted, crossing his arms over his chest as he sat on the stairs. Another bird landed in front of him. This time, he remained as quiet as he could. As the bird hopped closer, Saburou slid off the step and onto the ground. "Hi, bir..." saburou whispered. He stretched out his hand, spreading his fingers wide. "Come on. I not hurt you, bir." The bird hopped closer, and eventually into Saburou's hand. His hand closed quickly around the bird. "Got you!" he shouted, quickly scurrying to his feet. "Sabu got you." he laughed. Running as fast as he could, Saburou ran over to a flat rock by the porch. He slammed his hand down onto the rock, trapping the bird between the rock and his hand. The bird chirped frantically, as Saburou picked up a small jagged rock. One. Two. Three. The bird's chirping stopped. And, Saburou stood to his feet. "I got you."
