Hohō (Step Method; Fast Movement) is a defensive style of fighting which relates to footwork, it is one of the four basic combat skills of the Shinigami. Hohō is an important skill for most Shinigami, which incorporates speed and agility. The skill level of Hohō can be enhanced and improved through concentration, training, and mastery of it. The foremost practitioners of this technique are those assigned to the Onmitsukidō. Shunpo (Flash Steps) is the greatest expression of the Hohō technique; however there are variations even within Shunpo, which only master Hohō practitioners can use.

"Exchange of Duties":After speaking to Captain Commander Urahara, Hisagi made his way to see two of his friends that served in the Eleventh Division, Yumichika Ayasegawa and Ikkaku Madarame. Since a few of the instructors had been out from illness, or personal matters, the two had stepped up and were helping out at the academy to fill the empty instructor’s positions. The two were going to have to take over the Hollow Training the students go through. However, this year is was taking place early and only the Top 10 in the Hoho and Kido classes were participating. As he entered the Hoho field he saw Ikkaku standing out by the targets replacing them as he spoke to Ayasegawa. He got lucky. He did not have to go search out the other. Though he should have known the two would be together. No one hardly saw one without the other. Making his way toward the two he lifted his hand and waved when Ayasegawa looked his way. “Glad I caught you two together. Now I only have to say this once.” He stepped up to them combing his finger through his dark hair.

Ikkaku grinned as he set the remaining targets down and kicked up a pole, propping it behind his shoulder as he would his spear. “Having so much trouble keeping up with your new duties as a stand-in captain that you can’t manage to stop for two breathers? You sure you’re up to the task set before you?"
Hisagi folded his arms. “Unlike you who has a Bankai and has been hiding in hopes of never being transferred, I stepped up when duty called me to. I might not have wished for it, but I was ready to take over for the Lady Captain.” He smirked slightly. “Want to try again, cue ball?”
“Cu- CUE BALL!” Ikkaku sputtered. He swung his pole around and braced it before him. “That’s not a phrase you get to say lightly, Number boy. I’m teaching here! I will demand respect!”

Yumichika smacked Ikkaku on his head with a fan and then set it back into his kimono when Hisagi raised an eyebrow. “I’ll have you know that there’s a festival coming up for all of us hard, or lazy, workers,” Ikkaku sputtered in the background again, “and I have a few tricks up my sleeves for such an auspicious occasion.” He brushed his hair out of his eyes. “But beforehand, practice makes perfect.”
Hisagi chuckled. “I have a feeling I will hear all about it later, so I won’t bother asking for your secret.” He paused and winked at Yumichika.
Giving a showy bow, Yumichika smirked slyly and dodged as his colleague took a swing at him, Yumichika called back, “To what do we owe-” He swung around and kicked up a pole at Ikkaku. Ikkaku blocked and swung it back. Yumichika caught it.
As the poles clanged from the two sparring, Yumichika dared to speak up again.
“What’s brought you here to-”
Ikkaku swung up into a high kick, slamming into Yumichika’s face. “HA! Take that, damned pea-”
He back pedaled as a swirl of red Kido flew towards him.
Yumichika stood slowly to his feet. “Ikkaku-kun~” he purred, “what have we said about hitting a certain body part?”

Ikkaku gave a lopsided smile and an imploring look towards Hisagi. “You-you were making me look bad, and besides, it’s about time you stop being so touchy about that place. I mean,” he backed up again, “it’s not vital for you in any way, really.”
Blue white streaks of light zapped at the place an instant after Ikkaku moved. “I think we’ll see how you feel about a hit in another less vital place,” Yumichika hissed, eyes flashing.
Hisagi tried to say something, but Yumichika shunpo’ed further into the field, charging Ikkaku with a war cry. There were a few passes. Ikkaku’s blade went swirling out of his grip with a loud snap. Yumichika smiled almost kindly as he thrust his pole into his opponent’s stomach, throwing him down.
As he fell into the dust with a thump, Ikkaku grinned.
And an explosion filled the area.
Ikkaku stood in the dust-filled arena with a bloody forehead and a broken pole at Yumichika’s throat, a foot on his back.
Yumichika, face and hair covered in soot and hair at odds with gravity, looked murderous on his stomach.
Ikkaku looked to Hisagi. “Now what did you want, Lieutenant Shuuhei? Now that I have immobilized the mad bird, I think it’s more than safe to make a proposition.”

Hisagi sighed heavily as he rubbed his forehead. "If I knew all this was going to go down I would have taken my time in getting here. Anyway." He looked back at the two, Ayasegawa with a murderous look in his eyes now. "Let Yumichika up Ikkaku. I need both of you to listen well to this."
As Ikkaku let Yumichika up, Ikkaku stepped toward him once more. "This sounds serious. What's up?"
Yumichika dusted himself, straightening his clothing as he to stepped toward him. "Commander Urahara wants the top ten students taken out on the Hollow Training session. Orders are the ones that pass the training are to be graduates and placed in the Gotei."
"So you're here to find out about the top 10?" Ikkaku grinned.
Yumichika looked from Ikkaku to Hisagi smiling as well. "They're very talented students, indeed. I could see all ten of them passing without issues."
Both men looked at one another agreeing as they nodded their heads, then looked back to him. "No. That's not it. I can't do it. With stepping up into the Captains position until she returns, it leaves me no time to do this. So it's up to you two."

Yumichika looked to his colleague. “I’m sure you’re glad that I take my teaching career seriously, Ikkaku. It’s the only thing keeping you from being Hollow bait.” When Hisagi’s eyes narrowed, Yumichika chuckled. “Don’t worry about a thing, Hisagi. I know this a serious step, but most, if not all, of those ten should have graduated already and been getting their feet wet at this point. This exercise won't be difficult for them as it is. Also, I know he kept Sojiro back a year for personal reasons, but it doesn’t change the fact that you can only teach them so much before you need experience for it to sink in.”
He paused, eyes narrowing at himself, before adjusting a bent eyelash. “And I may be a decent teacher at Kido, but I am no master. Most of us aren’t. That’s another reason to thrown them into the field.”

"Don't worry about a thing, Hisagi." Ikkaku grinned. "We'll set things up to make sure we have the silly paperwork to back up our claims that who we believe are the top are in fact the top ten and then..." He looked to Yumichika, who had snapped one of his broken feathers off.
Yumichika's eyes narrowed. "If you wanted me to be the one to arrange the timing with Captain Kurotsuchi, you shouldn't have ruined the perfection that is my face!" he snapped. He continued to try make amends with his bungled appearance. "We will gamble for the honor of escaping that meeting."
Ikkaku grumbled but then looked back to Hisagi. "I suppose we got this handled." He set a hand against his forehead, blinked at the blood and then wiped the hand on his pant leg. "So you going to have enough time to play around come the festival?"

He looked from Yumichika to Ikkaku nodding his head. "In the evenings I should be free to hang out." He looked between the two. "So what is it you two have up your sleeves for the festival?" He crossed his arms over his chest with an authoritative look.
"It better not be too crazy. With what is going on right now. Captain Kuchiki will have your heads. Especially with his step daughter being a target of these thugs."

Ikkaku scowled. “What’s that look for? You have as much fun as we do with these kind of things. Besides, mine’s not that bad.” Hisagi raised an eyebrow. “I just want to spend the night scouting girls. And if there aren’t any that will stick around, then I am going to pop in on Renji’s moment with Rukia.”
He grinned. “I want my buffalo wing crown back, and if he's distracted, it will be an easy win."

Hisagi shook his head. "Find someone else to play buffalo king with. If you get in the way of Renji that night, I guarantee that you will hurt for it." He gave Ikkaku an intense look. "And Rukia needs him. There's going to be a memorial for the captains, or did you forget that?"
"All the more reason to get in the way. That way she won't brood or cry and he won't know what to do!"
Yumichika chuckled and retrieved his fan from his kimono, flipping it open and then closed before holding it before him. "Not all of us are useless with the ladies, unlike a certain awkward person in front of me."
"HEY! It took him forever to find the courage to go out with her!"
"That was before. He's been with her for a while now," Hisagi murmured. "I think he's got her moods down." He couldn't help his eyes being drawn to Yumichika's waving fan. "Okay, I give up. What are you using that for?"
Yumichika chuckled and returned it to his kimono. "You can say that it is part of a few magic tricks, my friend. And if you figure it out during the festival, then I am not doing my job~" A devious light entered his eyes. "But I will tell you that it is by commission of Rukia's dear brother-in-law." He paused. "I am one of the males in the kissing booth, too."

Hisagi shook his head. "Rukia's brother-in-law?" He looked to Ikkaku as he shrugged lifting his hands in a 'don't ask me' gesture. "Who's that?"
"Captain Kuchiki, of course," Yumichika replied. "Who else is close to Rukia besides him? Getting too little sleep, Mui Capitan?"
"Ah~" Hisagi replied still shaking his head in confusion then looked quickly back at Yumichika. "What's he got to do with this? I thought his step-daughter was in control of the Fall Festival."

Yumichika scratched at his hair as if that would fix its outrageous new position. “If It told you that,” he growled, sending daggers to his now snickering companion, “it wouldn’t be a magic trick, now would it?” He gave up and dropped his hands again.
“Anyone know which ladies have been commissioned for the lady’s booth? I can’t seem to find out anything, though they’re starting to advertise us superior men.” He set his hand against his chin. “It’s reverse expectations at play here, and it’s not fair.”

Hisagi shook his head lost to the question asked. "I have not heard. I did not even know there was a kissing booth. Hell, I did not even know that Captain Kuchiki's step-daughter took control of the Fall Festival until today."
He sighed, "too much of other things going on to think about the Fall Festival. Though I am glad it is still happening even with all this going on. We need something to take our minds off things. Even if it will only be for a short time. we still have to be alert and watch everything to keep bad things from happening and adding to the mess we already have." He looked around the field.
"Well I better be going. Still got things to do and you two need to finish up here." He turned to step away then turned back quickly. "Oh, if you guys need any advice with the Hollow Training hit me up." He smirked. "After all, it's been my gig for centuries."

Ikkaku smirked widely and saluted him. “Don’t worry about that. Yumi’s right, even if he’s a weirdo peacock dude. These kids will pass this test with flying colors. We’ve got this covered, Hisagi dude! With our eyes closed~”
Hisagi chuckled. “If your eyes are closed, you’ll make me the laughingstock of the century leaving this gig to you.”
Ikkaku scowled. “It’s a figure of speech. And after we get through this training session, people won't even call it your gig anymore. We'll have done such a good job!"
