Riku sighed dejectedly and lowered his head. "I'm sorry, Maki-chan. There've been quite a few bids on this one. It's very popular. The highest bid right now is 475,000."
Makino sighed and looked slowly back to the kimono. "I should have guessed there would be." She looked at said kimono and linked her arm back with Riku's. She smiled bright as she looked over at him. "No need crying over spilled milk. Someone else will get to enjoy." She sighed heavily as they walked away, Makino taking on final glance at it before they went on to the next exhibit.
Riku frowned deeply, feeling awful that Makino would not get to wear her mother's kimono. Then, suddenly he got an idea. He turned and gave Makino a small smile. "Maki-chan, would you mind sitting down for a moment. I just remembered something I have to take care of. It shouldn't take too long. I promise I'll be right back, then we can look at the other exhibits."

Makino looked to Riku and nodded with a soft smile. "That's fine." He walked her over to a near by chair with a table and she took a seat. As one of the waiters walked by Riku called to him.
"Could you please get Miss Masanobu a drink while she rests?"
The waiter nodded turning his attention to her as did Riku.
"I will be right back Maki-chan."
Makino nodded looking to the waiter and told him what she wanted to drink as he to then rushed off. Makino sat there looking around at all the kimono's and other fabric displays.

Riku walked around the gallery until found who he was looking for, standing next to the jewelry counter on the other side of the room. He walked up to Byakuya Kuchiku, bowing deeply. "Excuse me sir, but something has come up."
Captain Kuchiki turned around. "What has happened, Asuhara?"
"Well, we have a bit of a problem. One of the kimono's Lady Saya gave to us has turned out to be one that was promised to Maki-chan when she was younger. Makino was planning on bidding on it, however the kimono is very popular. It's already reached 475,000, and with the technique and the subject matter, I see it only going up from there."
Riku bowed his head, thinking of the saddened look on Makino's face when he told her the kimono had been bidded on. "She was very upset, but as you know, simply taking out of the auction would damage our reputation. I don't want her to be sad either though. So I wanted to ask for your help."

Byakuya looked to his daughter whose hands were sitting in her lap as she gazed around her. He then looked to Asuhara. It was not a hard decision. “Give me my list.” Asuhara did as ordered and he looked through his biddings. He then set an ‘X’ beside two items and then added “Makino’s Kimono” to the list. He paused and then set an amount before returning the list to Makino’s friend.
“I appreciate your decision to tell me. Tell Makino it will be hers. In addition, I will not bid further on the two items on the list with the new mark."
He then turned away. Beside the new item was the highest bid so far. 1,000,000.

Riku beamed as he looked at the updated paper, then choked when he saw the captain's bid on the kimono. "Uh, th- thank you Captain Kuchiki!" He bowed deeply to him then ran off to Makino.
"Maki-chan! Maki-chan! Guess what? The kimono is as good as yours!"

Makino looked to Riku as he came quickly up to her. Hearing what he said Makino lifted to her feet touching his arm. "Riku. Please tell me you didn't? That is far too much money to spend on a friend."
Riku smiled and shook his head. "No, not me. But believe me, if he didn't I would have. Though it would have bitten a chunk out of my money considering how much he bid for it." He shuddered at the thought of it.
Makino looked around, "Who? Please tell me it was not Soji-kun. He can't afford that having that type of cash taken from him either."

Riku laughed and shook his head. "No, it wasn't Soji-kun. I'll give you one guess, and here's a hint. He's quite smitten with a certain kimono painter you're very close to."
Makino covered her mouth with her free hand as her eyes started to tear up. "Byakuya-sama? Really?" She looked her future father. "He really did that for me?"
Nodding, Riku looked over at the noble captain as well. "Yep. I figured he would. I doubt there was even a nanosecond of hesitation once I told him what happened. And believe me, you don't want to know how much he bided for it."

Makino got a wide eyed look as she shook her head quickly. "No. No I don't." She linked her arm with Riku's again. "Come on show me more." She tugged him in another direction to go see the next display.
Riku grinned and gently pulled her over to the next section. "And now my second favorite category: paintings! We got some really amazing ones. So many talented artists. Both new and veterans. I might have to try my hand at bidding on some of them. They're all so beautiful."
Makino looked at each painting as she nodded slowly, "They are very talented. Who knew we had such talent here on campus and in the Soul Society."

"Yes, definitely," Riku nodded with a smile.
A short while later, Riku finished up the tour with Makino and set her down in a chair near Captain Kuchiki to rest. He went back to walking around the gallery, greeting and answering guests' questions. Included in his conversations with the guests was lots of praise for the set up. Riku couldn't get over how popular the auction had been in the few short hours the gallery had been open. After the crowd dwindled down near lunchtime, Riku went back to Makino, returning to her side with lunch for the both of them. They ate in the nearby cafeteria, chatting about their day and the festival. After lunch it was back to work for Riku and back to resting for Makino.

"Facade":A gentlemen with long, pale blonde hair and glasses, dressed in the finest silks, stepped up to the table where Byakuya Kuchiki sat with his future daughter. He stopped and bowed deeply to the Nobles. Standing he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I must say, this is quite the soiree the Kuchiki and Masanobu families have put together here. May I offer my congratulation on your turn out." He looked around at all that have gathered as more filed in to view the fine work hanging in the gallery. "Oh, please forgive me." He turned back to the two looking at Makino as he gestured to her. "I am Jun Fukui." The young Masanobu offered her hand, he tenderly kissed the back of it.

Byakuya observed the exchange in silence, both his usual reaction to flattery and to better observe their visitor. His presence here wasn’t only to give Makino more time at the festival. It was as her honor guard. To prevent anything else from happening than what had happened two days ago. And though this man was dressed in the finest, the high noble did not know of him.
“It has indeed been put together well, but that is not my doing,” he murmured, acknowledging the complement, “but I do not believe I am familiar with your name.”

Jun released the young Masanobu's hand turning his attention to the older, more pristine Noble. He wore the same smile across his lips. "I did not figure you would." He bowed again, his hand resting to his chest.
"I am a fashion designer from the village Kiso and I am interested in the kimonos you have on display here." He grinned, "and the little lady that painted them. I was told you would be the one to speak with to arrange this meeting."

Byakuya’s eyes narrowed slightly at both his tone and his way of discussing Saya. “That is the truth of the matter. The Lady Masanobu is my betrothed.” He fell silent for a moment, examining the man before him. There was something wrong about him, but he could not explain it, which did not sit well with him.
Especially after events that had already happened. Both his daughter’s kidnapping. And the tragedies beforehand.
“If she wishes to meet with you, then I will allow you to meet with us.”

Jun's eyes lit up a bright smile across his lips. "So it is the brush work of the eldest Lady of the family, I have been viewing." He bowed again. "Please forgive my informal way of addressing her Kuchiki-sama. I feel a fool now."
He stood once more. "I would be honored to meet with her." He looked from the corner of his eyes at Makino. "and here I thought it was this young lady."

Makino sat there silently not saying much of anything as he talked to her future father. She could tell Byakuya was slightly on edge with this guy, but of course he was a fashion designer and from what she has heard about these particular type of people they were sneaky and greedy. Her head started to shake as she looked from Jun to her father.
"Mother does this in her free time and when she feels the creative edge pulling at her. I can't say she would be interested in a full time position or career in this field." She shrugged her shoulders picking up her glass of water from the table. "But that does not mean you can't mention it to her. She might take the offer." She took a sip of her water.
