What?!
Springing from his seat, Shunsui wrenched the blindfold off of his eyes and set a hand to his sword, his heart thundering in his ears. Around him, Juushiro had paled, Kuchiki’s eyes had narrowed, and Kira sunk into a chair. His Nanao had fisted a hand in her hakama beneath her desk. Shunsui sighed, looked to the tainted view of his balcony - to the curls of smoke still rising into the azure sky - and sat down again.
“Give us the details, Abarai,” he stated, tone carefully neutral, trying to disguise his weariness.
His friend shook his head.
The commander looked at the harried lieutenant. “And you had best start with casualties.”

Renji's nod was stiff as he started on his report. "There was no attack of any kind. We were cleaning up around the Maggots Nest and all of a sudden the ground caved. Four of the men helping with the clean up were sucked down in the cave-in. Men in the Maggots Nest, held in their cells were trapped under the earth and debris. Every one was saved with little to no damage." He paused and took a deep breath. "But when we got to the area where Aizen's sealed form was being held and guarded." He paused again and looked to his Captain.
"They were dead, and Aizen's sealed form was gone."

As a silence grew in the room, Byakuya finally crossed over to his lieutenant’s side. “You are uninjured?” he asked quietly. Someone, probably Kira stifled a gasp. And Renji himself blinked in confusion. Already on shaky ground, the noble found his temper fraying. “Answer,” the captain ordered.
“Yes, sir,” Renji replied. “I’m fine, Captain. Just the blood of those injured in the collapse and from inspecting the bodies.” The high noble nodded and turned, facing his elders, studiously ignoring the other lieutenant. “My division and the Stealth Force will inspect the grounds. And the tunnels,” he stated.

The commander nodded and then held up a hand before the leaders of the Sixth Division could leave. He considered his feelings and his duty, and then finally spoke again. "Make no move against the enemy if he has returned," he ordered. Kira's head swung towards him. "We have lost enough due to underestimating him and his. If found, report back. And we will move together. But at this time, I will not lose more of the Gotei 13 to Sousuke Aizen." Shunsui lifted his blindfold back to his eyes and covered them. "That is my wish. And my command. Please do not disobey it or be foolish enough to confront him on your own."

Izuru looked from his Commander, out over the balcony his eyes widen. "Kita. Sojiro." He turned and started a quick path toward the door without even being dismissed. "I have to get to them. Kita is without Sumi. They are in danger if he gets to them first."
"Stop right there, Izuru Kira," Kyoraku murmured.
"But sir-"
"Even if Sousuke were to attack Kita, do you have the power to stop him?" The commander sighed again, his expression sagging unable to keep up the pretext of strength any longer. "Do not risk your life in a futile battle, Kid. It would only hurt others."
Izuru growled his hand clenching around the hilt of his blade. "I don't care! Sojiro has already lost his father I won't let that Bastard take his mother from him as well. I have to go to them. Now! Not only that, I owe her my life for the times she has protected me the many times in Las Noches -- Please Commander! Let me go to them!" He looked to Juushiro.
"At least between Kita and myself we can hold him back until someone comes to help."

Juushiro stood up, chuckling as his friend turned his sightless eyes towards him. “If no one goes with him, Shunsui, Izuru will go on his own. And die - if Sousuke does indeed go that way. And as you said, we have lost too many. In the current condition, I am the strongest here. My illness remains but it has withdrawn. Compared to your weak eyes and Kuchiki being unable to use Senbonzakura.”
Renji gasped before trying to cover up his shock. Juushiro turned to him. “Yes, Renji, you are stronger than your captain at the moment. Though he could probably still demolish most enemies with Kido.”
He walked over and set a hand on his best friend’s hand. “I am going, and you, my friend, are going into the new bunker.” He gave a soft smile. “Do not worry. Sousuke has decided not to kill me. That such a thing would too easy of a fate for the ‘White Knight.’ But as you wish to protect the Gotei from more despair, I refuse to let him or his take anything more from our allies who have suffered so much in Karakura.”

Shunsui’s lips quirked up. “You know one of these days,” he muttered into his hand, “I am going to get you to worry more about yourself. And not others.” He sighed and reached up to clasp his friend’s shoulder. “Don’t be too reckless in my place. You’re not someone we can replace.” Juushiro laughed quietly. “And I have told you and the others that if I worried about myself, I’d never stop - since death is always whispering in my ear. Don’t give up hope, Shunsui. It’s still there. As long as someone is alive and fighting, it’s still there. No matter how bleak the calculations seem.” He pulled back. “Let’s go, Izuru. Take care, Renji, Byakuya.” A moment later, the door opened and closed. The commander took another deep breath before rising from his chair. “He’s right. He’s always right. It’s not over.” Nanao set a hand on his arm to lead him. He gave her a faint smile. “We’re not beaten if we can still rally like this.” |

"The Death Of...": (Continued)
Koga flew toward the First Division, his massive wings sending strong gusts of wind throughout. He screeched loudly as the Captain Commander, followed by his Lieutenant and another Captain, appeared. All had swords drawn.
Landing gently on the balcony, Koga stretched his wings out to his side revealing his feathered belly. His black feathers turned white before becoming translucent, allowing those in front of him to view the beast inside.
"Lower your blades." demanded Koga. "I was sent by Vale Tervaden to deliver this beast.""The...Ayakashi?"Koga lowered his wings, tucking them tightly to his sides. "Not quite. Tervaden believes that this is not Sada Teruo. Instead, he believes it to be Teruo's blade, Naraku."

Shunsui Kyoraku’s good eye sparked with inner fire at the espada’s words. For a few vital moments, he was silent, considering, as his forces examined the giant bird. As others stated to gather. Then, he raised his hand. “Lower your weapons, but do not put them away.”
The commander looked to the owl. “I should have you filleted and sent to Kurotsuchi’s lab for all you have done, Espada. Give me a reason not to. Is Sada alive or was there enough power left behind after he was broken to fuel this poison?”

Koga craned his neck forward, turning his head slightly so that his giant glowing eye faced the Commander. "Do not threaten me!" he sad lowly.. He quickly took flight, as his glowing eyes focused on the Captain Commander.
All below him raised their blades as Koga chuckled. "I will leave you in wonder, if you threaten me again. Teruo is a force to be reckoned with. It serves you better to trust me, than to waste my time."

The commander’s eyes narrowed at the giant shadow above him and spoke just below his breath. “So to put away one monster, I must deal with another. The Soul King sure does like his tests.” He tapped his fingers along the hilt of his blade as she whispered for him to cut the enemy down.
Then, sighing with a quirk of his lips, Kyoraku lifted his head. “And if you were to release this beast from your belly, would it turn into a blade again, or will we have to defeat it as we may have the master?”

Koga landed on the balcony once more. "I do not have an answer for you." said Koga, tucking his wings to his sides.
"You do not have an answer?" asked Kyoraku. "Or, are you choosing not to tell me?"
Tilting his head to the side, Koga chuckled. "Naraku has the ability to act independent of his master. Alone, it can cause a chaos to rival it's master. But, if Teruo is close..."
"And, he is not."
Koga craned his neck, bringing his face close to the Commander. "You are so certain of the unknown."

"I am certain of nothing," the commander murmured. "It's part of this job. Unfortunately." He tipped his hat. "Can't you keep him in your stomach and digest him slowly? It will give you a stomachache, for sure, but that is what you hollows do. Devour each other."
Koga shook his head. "He is not in my stomach. He is trapped in a void that exists inside of my body. But, he can not stay there. If and when I transition from this form, he is released from the void. And, unfortunately, it is not as simple as remaining in this form."
Shunsui sighed. "More powers that we don't know about. Thanks for that, I think." He looked to one of his guards. "Get Kisuke Urahara, Tessai, and Kurosaki from Karakura." The solider nodded and left. Shunsui lifted his eyepatch. "Nanao, I know you don't like to collaborate with Kurotsuchi, but will you do it for me?"
"It is not a matter of preference in a time such as this."
He chuckled. "You're such a good woman." He chuckled again as her face remained stern. He sighed again. "I have a duty to all that have died and suffered from that 'thing's' master do something about that it. And I suppose that is what I will do. Put everything we have into either destroying its current form or burying it in a cell where it won't ever escape."
He paused, his eyes narrowing. "And hope that it's master is no longer nearby."
He took off his new kimono and let it fall to the ground, setting his hat on top. "One of you gather the captains while I take this brute to the Execution Hill. Give us some distance to wreck havoc."

Koga stretched his wings, taking flight as the Commnader turned to face him. He screeched loudly, beating his wings. The gusts of wind forced the Commander and others to shield their faces.
"No! I was sent to deliver the beast to you. What you do with him his your problem!" Koga dry heaved before throwing up the beast. The Ayakashi lay motionless on the balcony. Turning, Koga flew away, disappearing into a opening garganta.

Cursing, the commander told all to drop back and summoned his zanpakuto. "Nanao, create the best barrier you can with me inside." He slammed his cleaver into the head of motionless Ayakashi. Blood spurted as the head rolled. A few cheered. Shunsui did not. Raising his blades, gathering his reiatsu, he started to pound and shred the 'thing' beneath him.
