"A Noble Outing": (continued) Saya looked his way with a sad expression in her eyes. Her hand resting on his arm patted his as he turned and looked into her eyes. She shook her head lightly, smiling warmly at him as she spoke to him in the same soft tone as he did to her. "No. You are her family. She needed you. I would have only been an outsider looking in. My words would have held no merit with her."
They entered the dining room to find it empty, Saya looked at Koko her eyes questioning as of where the others were."Master's Hakuryuu, Kouen and Shirou are with Koriyama-sama. He stopped by while you were out at the park and your father is out with a friend, Lady Saya. It will only be you, your guest Kuchiki-sama and your eldest son Kin to join you for the night." Saya looked over at Byakuya again with a pleased smile. "Preferable."

Watching the two gaze at one another as he walked into the room, Kin Masanobu, first born son of Kazuo Masanobu and Saya Tori, bowed to his mother. “Good evening, Mother.” His deep smooth voice spoke to her. He looked to the high Noble bowing again. “Kuchiki-sama.”
He walked over to his mother leaning over he gently kissed her cheek. “You look beautiful as always, Mother.” He looked to Byakuya once more, but spoke to his mother. “Is there an issue?”
His mother smiled brightly shaking her head gently. “No, Kin. I invited Byakuya-sama to dinner tonight.”
Kin raised a brow to his mother’s name choice for the high Noble, noticing the Noble did not oppose. “Hm,” Kin hummed as he looked to Byakuya once more. “Well then. It is an honor to have you grace our home. I do hope you have not suffered any inconveniences and found our home to be as accommodating as your own.”

Standing at the table before Byakuya, Saya looked to her son then Byakuya. "Byakuya-sama. This is my first born. Kin Masanobu."
Her son bowed to Byakuya once more as Byakuya bowed his head to her son. After their introduction the three sat down at the table, seconds later it was being carried out to them and placed to the table before them.
Koko looked to Kin. "Wine or tea for dinner tonight, sir?"
Kin looked to Byakuya with a tilt of his head. "I think tea would work well with dinner. I shall leave the wine to my mother and her guest for after dinner."
Koko nodded and left the room to get their drinks, returning moments later with a tray of cups and a teapot.

As the younger noble looked to him, Byakuya leaned back in his chair and folded his hands into his kimono. “I thank you for your consideration, Masanobu. Were your duties with Suisenro Koriyama today?”
Kin nodded to the captain as he looked to Koko as she poured his tea. Lifting his cup he looked back to Byakuya. "Yes. It would seem there were issues within the new ranks."
Byakuya raised his eyebrows. "I hope it was dealt with speedily."

"Very. One thing that is not tolerated is disobedience."
"You're just like your father in that way." Saya replied.
He looked to his mother and smiled kindly at her. "You and Father. The ones you lead did not dream of stepping out of line with you or anyone."
Kuchiki set his cup down. "What was the issue that brought about this disobedience?"
Lowering his cup he started to speak. "It seems the family accountant was lining his pockets with the Koriyama wealth. Suisenro-sama had been suspecting something was different about the books the man was keeping, but he was crafty and covered his calculations well." He looked up at Byakuya. "Today he made a grave mistake and was caught by Masahiro-sama himself. As for the issue to bring this about," he paused. "He is a greedy man."

“Greed exists in every society. But it is good that you were able to purge it from your followers now.” Byakuya lifted a piece of the yakitori to his mouth, chewing slowly before continuing his thought. “Were you able to recover your losses? In my experience, in this sort of crime, there is usually less than half of the funds in the culprit’s hands when he finally makes the fatal mistake." He lifted his teacup.

Kin frowned his eyes becoming dull. "He has been working for the family for the last three years. I doubt we will be able to retrieve much of what he has taken. If any. He claims that he was using the money to help his village rebuild after the take over." He looked to his mother. "That is where Hakuryuu, Kouen and Shirou are. I sent them to investigate the village and speak to the people there."
Kin looked back to his meal picking up his chopsticks. "If they report differently when they return. I will interrogate the man further. His forked tongue finding him no rue from this man."

Byakuya frowned in turn. “It is difficult, still, even after three years, to determine if the reason for their dishonorable actions is, in fact, due to the takeover. People believe they can use it for blame even more widely than they would the second Quincy war.” He paused. “However, the man set in charge in Soul Society had a longer reach. While the Quincies’ focus was the Gotei and Seiretei, Tervaden allowed chaos to fester and grow.” He took a bite of rice. “Even if the shield has recovered, there are still many scars behind the surface.” He closed his eyes.
“What will you do with the man – if it were for this reason?”

Kin nodded, "Masahiro-sama is a kind man and if this is indeed what the money was used for he will help them in anyway he can. However, stealing it is not the way to acquire this. The man will still suffer the consequence of his actions."
Kin took a few more bites his forthright mind changing the subject before Byakuya could respond to the acts that would be taken on the thief. "So Kuchiki-sama, what brings you to be in the company of my mother?"

Byakuya regarded his mother for a moment before looking back to the younger Masanobu. The man had more than a right to ask him this, and for a brief interlude, the high noble questioned his own actions. His brief association with the lady of the house. But it would not do to consider the matter at hand now. He raised his head.
“Your mother did me a service a few days ago and was pleased by a gift I sent her in return.” Byakuya sipped at his tea, silent for a few moments, but it seemed the new leader of the family wasn't satisfied. For some reason, a faint smile lifted his lips. “Then she endeavored to drop me in a lake. I thought I would return the favor by staying for dinner.”

Kin looked from the captain to his mother as she giggled softly from behind her kimono sleeve. "You dropped Kuchiki-sama in a lake?" He looked between the two not sure if he should be ashamed of or proud of his mother. So he decided to take the conversation a step further.
"I tried to save him." Saya replied.
After taking a sip of his tea he looked to Byakuya pointedly. "May I ask how this happened and extend my apologies now for any inconvenience."

Byakuya took another sip from his own tea. “There is no need for apologies. It is a good thing that your mother has regained her passion for painting,” he murmured. When the young leader’s eyes flashed to his mother, the high noble went on. “But today, she became oblivious to the environment. I was attempting to remedy the situation that emerged from there. I am sure it won't happen again."

"Hm," Kin hummed as he slowly looked away from Byakuya to his mother. "Yes, I am sure it won't." Kin's word slightly harsh toward his mother. His attention turning back to his plate. The three ate in silence Kin finishing his food first.
Resting his chopsticks to his plate and dabbing his mouth with his napkin he looked to his mother who was still eating. "Why is Maki-chan not joining us? Is she still busy with her chores?"

Saya looked to her eldest son from across the table. "I gave her a few days freedom to catch up on her work she had fallen behind in at the academy."
Kin scowled. "That's very unlike Makino to fall behind." He shook his head. "Are you sure she is not telling you that to get out of her punishment?"
Saya shook her head. "Makino may not like the way I punish, but she would never lie to me in a matter like this."

"I beg to differ in this matter, Mother. Makino has changed since Father's death. I wish you would open your eyes and see this. She is not the same diligent little girl you once saw." He growled softly picking up his tea cup. A quick glance to the captain then back to his mother. He did not like talking about this with the man there, but it was something that needed to be said.
"I wish you and Masahiro-sama would not have allowed her to join the academy. They will not keep her feet planted firmly on the ground like the training here would. Nor will they be able to keep her mind from clouding with revenge for Father's death."
