Something flickered in Byakuya’s gaze, and his lips twitched upwards for a moment. “You’re an extraordinary woman..." her maiden name stuck in his throat "...and a credit to your family.” The noble straightened, his eyes glittering. “But it is your family you belong to first. If they dislike …. your kindness, then it may be better spent…. with another.” He reached for her hand. “Ask them. And remember you are a welcome visitor at any time.” He hesitated and then lifted her hand to kiss it.
“Thank you for your support. I do not believe I deserve it, but I will endeavor to protect it.”

She smiled warmly at Byakuya as she gazed into his steal gray eyes. Subconsciously her hand lifted to cup his cheek, however, realizing what she was about to do. It was only her fingertips that lightly touched his warm cheek.
"Thank you," she withdrew her hand that Byakuya had kissed the back of as he still held it gently in his own. She did not want to, what she really wanted, was to hang on tightly to him and help him through his time of grief.
She could see the weight of his nobility weighting heavily on his shoulders, but she knew what she wanted was not possible. Her smile grew as she cast her eyes from his before she changed her mind and said something she should not. Once her thoughts were back on the conversation she continued looking back to him.
"You are a kind man and you should not think that way about yourself. You are very deserving, and not just because I say. You are a very honorable and kind man." She looked deeper into his eyes her smile still in place as her feeling welled back up inside of her, a warm sensation washing over her. Quickly she turned from him as her hand lifted to her chest.
"And very handsome." She spoke just above a whisper.

Byakuya’s low rumble of amusement moved between them like a smooth whisper. “I have heard that I am an eligible bachelor, but this would be the first time I have decided to notice that aspect of the position.”
He glanced towards her, watching her throat move as she inhaled quietly to take a few slow breaths to calm down. The faint pink tint rose over her cheekbones, complimenting the light shawl over her arms, white with pale orange wildflowers strewn across the fabric, and her dark, glistening lips. Warm, inviting, open. Byakuya turned back to the garden stretched before the room, distracting himself from further thoughts as best he could. Even if he couldn't step away from her, there was still much that had to be understood before he took this relationship any deeper.
“Honor has nothing do with kindness, my lady, and it is not a compliment I hear often.”

She turned and looked at him as he gazed out on the garden. "No they are two very different traits, but both of these traits are portrayed within your personality. With much more, which creates the man that stands before me gazing at my garden."
His head turned looking at her as she stepped closer to him. "You seem so sure of me."
"Why shouldn't I be?"
"You hardly know me as a person."
"I believe I have seen enough. And I believe you have shown me a kindness that none other has seen in a very long time." She stepped up to him still looking into his eyes, her hand resting to his forearm.
"Permission to speak freely, Captain?"

Byakuya gazed into her dark sparkling eyes, the warmth reaching deep inside him in a way he had nearly forgotten existed. He closed his eyes, his hands clenching, before calming and opening them again. Keeping his gaze steady and respectful. “If that is what you wish to do, I won’t stop you,” he murmured.
"If I am out of line please tell me, but I think you need to know this if you don't already." He nodded his head to her still keeping his eyes steady with hers. She smiled brightly. "I believe I have fallen for you Byakuya Kuchiki, and with what I am seeing..." she paused, her smile fading slightly and heart having a sinking feeling in fear of his rejection and what he might say with her next statement. Mustering her courage back, her lips lifted into a smile once more but said nothing else.
Byakuya didn't reply. Didn't trust himself to speak without saying something that couldn't be taken back. So he lifted his hand and caressed her cheek, moving down to the corner of her lips. Running his fingers over the textures of her skin, he let his palm rest against the side of her face. He lowered his voice so it would not reach past the doors. "I would not have invited you to my house if I believed this was futile," he breathed out. He halted again.

Saya's hand lifted resting to the top of his that rested to her cheek. Her heart raced within her chest with his tender touch and the two of them being as close as they were at that moment. A serene silence fell between them as they gazed into the others eyes, only the sound of their softly beating hearts, in time with the gentle melody of the crickets and calm breeze of the autumn night filled the room.
Slowly the two came closer their heads tilting, their eyes closed, his hand tenderly sliding to her neck, hers now resting to his chest.
"Mother." The door slid quickly open.
Saya and Byakuya parted, their hands dropping to their sides. Looking toward the door Saya smoothed the front of her kimono seeing her fourth born son standing there with a blank expression on his face and his mouth partly open.
She cleared her throat and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "Did you need something Shirou?"
He only shook his head quickly as he turned and left the room, closing the door behind him.

Lowering his gaze, Byakuya took another step away from Saya. “My time has run out, Lady Masanobu, and now I am intruding on your time with your family.” Saya shook her head but he held a hand up. “I am. And unless we know they approve of me… at least a couple of them…” he sighed, “then we…” The steel in his eyes eased once more as they fell into her soft chocolate brown honest ones. He closed his eyes. “We will wait until they do,” he finally uttered.
It was the simple truth. Something he rarely spoke of. And the voice of a wish that had developed before he had realized what had happened.
His eyes opened again. “Be careful. We do not know if the danger has past. And my position has changed.”

Saya nodded, a warm smile across her lips. "Yes, I understand, and I will." She stepped toward him, her hand resting to his arm. "And please, you do the same."He nodded slightly stepping away from her again as her hand slid from his arm and rested to her side again. "Have a good evening, Lady Masanobu." "Saya. Please." She walked quickly up beside him as he looked her way. Byakuya gave a fleeting smile. “Good night…. Saya…” He turned and left the room, not looking back. She walked quickly over to the doors that opened to the garden, resting against the door frame, looking out she saw Byakuya exit the home. She said nothing, only watched him slowly walk toward the gates. ~END RP~ "Bothersome Boy":

"Within": (continued) Noticing the two move quickly through the home, Kin followed, wondering what they were up to and where they were going. When they slid the door and darted into the main room he decide to join them. He too then slid the door open stepping in behind them Kouen bowed dragging Makino down with him."Good morning mother, Kuchiki-sama." Stepping up on the other side of Kouen he bowed as well. "Mother, Kuchiki-sama." he looked over to Kouen and Makino. "Is there something that needs to be discussed?"

Byakuya looked to his lady for a moment, assuring himself that she wouldn’t change her mind in allowing this, then turned back to her eldest son. “Your mother and I wish to discuss this incident with the men last evening,” he stated clearly.
He then looked to Makino. “As long as it won’t distress you,” he clarified.

Kin looked over to Makino as she shook her head slowly. Kin's look moving back to Byakuya. "There is nothing to discuss. The matter was dealt with. I am sure they will not return, nor do I believe they will bother Maki-chan or her friend ever again."
"And that is enough for you when they threatened to see your sister again?" the captain demanded, eyes now locking with the young head.
"Of course it is not." Kin spoke his tone raised some. "But there is nothing that can done until they try something again. I may be an assassin, but I do not kill just to kill." His tone coarse with the man in front of them.

“Nor would I encourage or command you to do so,” Byakuya snapped, his own tone carrying a level of irritation now. “But I would not be content with a curt warning and waiting when they were arrogant enough to display a weapon in your direction. That does not sound like the actions of thugs just looking to stir up trouble."
Kin narrowed his eyes at the man. "And what would you have me do, Captain. Kuchiki?" Kin added, emptiest on the man’s title and name. "Keep my little sister and her friend here?" Makino gasped as she looked between them. "Or maybe," Kin smirked at him, "you can spare a couple of your men to post outside their dorms to watch over them?"
Byakuya was silent for a few moments, his eyes shifting into flint, as he kept his eyes locked on the arrogant boy in front of him. "I apologize, Saya-Heart." Before the boys could recover from the whispered endearment, the high noble slammed his fist into Kin's face, sending him sprawling backwards into his brother and sister.
"Think before you speak again, Kin Masanobu," Byakuya growled. "Your matter-of-fact attitude about this incident is too similar to the doomed stance I took when I nearly lost my sister. I doubt you wish to experience that, and your vow of silent pride won't protect anything from anyone."
He stepped back again. "I will leave if I have offended the host. Yet, I would still be pleased to offer her friend and your sister a guard. For the feelings I carry for your mother alone, I would do this. However, in this case, I am the captain of the division in which these kind of matters are dealt with - if someone would inform me of the details. Your brother did right by telling me - in spite of what you believe."

As Kouen helped Kin back to his feet, Makino stepped forward and looked at Byakuya her hands folded in front of her. "I can tell you everything you need to know, Captain Kuchiki." She heard her brother grumble as the door to the room slide then closed with a rather loud thud causing her to jump, she exhaled slowly as her eyes closed.
The door slid again, Kouen leaving behind Kin. Makino's head hung as she stood before her mother and Captain. "I am sorry we did not tell you about this." She looked up at Byakuya. "Especially you Captain Kuchiki, sir. I should have known better then to withhold this. I could have put someone else in danger because of my own foolish pride of not wanting to be babied."

Byakuya’s face remained rigid for a few moments and then he sighed, making Makino blink at him. “Special treatment or any word you wish to use does not change the fact that you’re a a strong person, Makino.” He walked over to the door leading to the courtyard and opened it to let some fresh air in before sitting down and taking a cloth to wipe his hand. “There are too many dangers right now to overlook one, no matter how slight. That’s all there is to it.”
He looked to his lady. “I apologize if I worry you more than necessary and if I broke your son’s nose, Saya.”

Saya lowered her head and sighed. "I apologize for Kin's action and words, Byakuya-sama. He does his best. Even if his best is not so." She stepped over to Byakuya resting her hand to his shoulder.
"I will go speak with him while you and Makino go over the details of yesterday."
When he turned to look at her she tiptoed up and gentle kissed his cheek. She then turned to look at her daughter. She was looking away from them giving her and Byakuya their privacy the best she could with being in the room with them. She smiled at her daughter as she continued to look away, Saya exited the room.
