Yumiko’s hands tightened around her warm cup, staring into her reflection. “He said he would protect me. He said he would protect my smile, that I would never be sad again…. He called me his queen.” She set the cup aside and folded her hands in her laps again, trying to keep from shaking. “He gave me the perfect illusion, safety, friends, freedom…. He …..”
She started to tremble again, recalling both her first night and the first time he had taken her on the couch after her illusion had shattered. The two contrasts, the way she couldn’t resist him either time. Yumiko wrapped her arms around herself. “Why didn’t he just rape like he did Kita? Why did he have to create a beautiful world and a place where I would belong to get my powers?”
She sprang up, knocking the table over and ignoring the spilled coffee as it slowly burned down her leg. She closed her eyes and shook her head. "Why does a part of me want to go back to him? Even now when I know it was lie? When I know what he is?!" Her reiatsu flared. "I am not his pawn. I'm not!"

Nori stood slowly doing the same, she paid no mind to the over turned table and spilled tea. She took Yumiko by the arms and turned her to look at her. "Listen to me Yumiko. You fell in love with an idea. Not the man himself. You craved everything he offered because you had been locked away for so long. It was not the man himself. That is why you cannot let go of him. You took that idea and placed it with an image and that image, sadly, was Sousuke Aizen. You have to realize that there are real men out there that are what your idea fits, and it will be truth. They will love you in return. They will give that sense of security. They will protect your smile and would die keeping it there."
She released Yumiko's arms and looked to the floor. "Your friends have always been there and will always be there. I admit. I don't know Kita all that well, but what I do know and what I have heard, her friendship will remain no matter what happens. A true friend never turns their back on a friend." She looked back to Yumiko and smiled. "Captain Ukitake, Captain Commander Kyoraku and now even Izuru were all very worried for you, and I dare say they love and look upon you as a dear friend."

Yumiko nodded, tears falling down her face again. When Captain Mutsu urged back down to the couch and embraced her, Yumiko leaned against her, eyes open as she let the tears continue. She tried to keep from hiccupping. She knew the captain was right. She did have friends who were looking out for her. She wasn’t alone, even if she walked away from Aizen. Slowly the weeping stopped again but it didn’t halt the flow of question in her mind. Sitting up again, Yumiko looked back at Captain Mutsu, hesitated, and then asked the most pressing one. “Does anything change after helping Vale get his blade back?”

Nori looked to Yumiko her expression blank. "I am sure the Commander will keep your name out of it. And if it does come up he will make it to were its believed that you were brought against your will."
Nori looked to the mess once more then back to Yumiko with a warm smile. "Either way you will not get in trouble for this."

Yumiko looked down to her lap, both relieved and uneasy at the captain’s words. “I know he’s the enemy. I know what he has done to Kita and Orihime, but,” she wrapped one of her hands around her forearm, “I couldn’t take any more of that kind of pain. Even if he was the enemy, torturing his zanpakuto… it made me sick.” She looked up, blue violet eyes slightly narrowed in determination to be understood. “It was wrong.” She held the captain’s stare for a moment before looking back down again, falling silent.

Nori sighed and lowered herself from the couch to the floor in front of Yumiko and started to clean up the mess that was made. "I can't say that I understand, Yumiko. I was raised as a warrior, to show no mercy to my enemy or opponent."
She sighed. "I am sure it is a completely different type of world."
She set the table back up on all fours then picked up the cups, saucers, spoons and anything else that was ejected from the table when it was sent toppling from Yumiko's outburst. "You have a kind heart and to me that is hindrance in a fight. Show a weakness like that in battle can get you killed." She stopped what she was doing and looked to the noble, "but I am sure you know this already."

Yumiko’s smiled weakly. “I think I have heard some of that before, from Kyoraku-san about Ukitake-san.” She chuckled quietly. “Maybe I got it from Ukitake. I’m glad to know that something about him and his teachings stuck with me, even if my memory is still tremulous at best.” Missing the worry that formed on the captain’s face, Yumiko took a breath and smiled again at Captain Mutsu. “Thank you for coming and being honest. I think it helped. Hopefully when I see Ukitake-san, I won't worry him as - "
"Mutsu-san? What's wrong?"

Nori grew silent as she looked across the room. Yumiko did not know. She was taken from the fight before it ended so she was not aware that Juushiro was taken by Aizen's men. She looked back to Yumiko with a blank expression and patted her hand that rested to her lap.
"I will make more tea." She stood from the couch and picked up the tray the empty cups were sitting on. She turned and walked toward the small kitchen.

Yumiko looked after her, wondering what she wasn’t being told. Again. Too many times. She glanced down at her lap. But it could be for her own good. Had something happened to Ukitake? Her hands clenched in her lap. No, that couldn’t be. But if it were….. it would be her fault for helping the wrong side.
No.
She shook her head. She would stand by her decision. She couldn’t stand by quietly and impartially to that kind of torture.
She sighed and waited for Nori to finish the tea. Silence filled the room as the two women stayed in their different areas, neither willing to say something to the break the small peace from before.

"Moving to the Next Step":Shunsui and Kisuke walked into the room to find Nori and Yumiko drinking tea in a too-silent room. Yumiko continued to look into her lukewarm teacup, but Nori looked up. Kisuke adjusted his hat and commandeered the kitchen. The captain commander raised a questioning eyebrow at his captain. Nori rose and stopping to set a hand on Yumiko's shoulder, walked over to him. "What happened?" he asked. Nori glanced over her shoulder at the young noble. Getting the picture, Shunsui stepped out with her into the hall. They walked a few feet away before Shunsui repeated his question.
"She started asking about Captain Ukitake, and I didn't have the heart to tell her," the wind captain reported. She sighed and brushed a lock of her hair aside. "I didn't think it was my place."Shunsui sighed and rubbed his brow. If Yumiko had retreated, which it seemed she had, it wouldn't be easy to pull her out of it. They were running on a timeline, too. Shunsui looked back at Nori. "Were you able to get her to talk at all before that?" Nori nodded and Shunsui asked for details, keeping his own personal feelings on the matter in check as she explained what had happened so far. He sighed, rubbing his chin. This was more your department, old friend....

Kisuke walked from the kitchen with a bright smile and sat down across from Yumiko. "Well hello there, how have you been since our last meeting, Miss. Yumiko?"
She looked up at him as he raised a brow giving her a questioning look. When she did not say anything and looked back down into her cup of tea, he sighed. "Oh. I am sure you would like to know this. Kita has made it out of Las Noches safely as well."
She looked quickly back up at him as he nodded slowly. "I am sure she will be happy to know you're here and safe as well." When she nodded at him and looked back to her cup he smiled.
"Yumiko? Can you conceal your reiatsu?"

Yumiko nodded and sipped her lukewarm tea. “Yes, I can do that. It’s something I’ve never had a problem with since my years of sealing.... well after the first and only attack on me." She continued to look at her reflection in the tea. “Did something happen to Ukitake-san during the attack?” she asked in low whisper. Her hands tightened around the cup. “Mutsu-san won’t say anything.”

Kisuke's fan appeared quickly with her question as he hid his expression behind it. His free hand waved loosely at Yumiko as he gave a half hearten laugh. "That old man? Never. He is around. Don't you worry your pretty little head about that old fart."
He turned giving a side glance as the door to the room room opened, Kyoraku walking in, closing the door behind him.
"And enters the the oldest fart in the Gotei." Kisuke announced. He lowered his fan giving Kyoraku a knowing looking, his eyes shifting slightly toward Yumiko.

The captain commander nodded slightly and then laughed. “I am not that much older than Juu-chan, Kisuke, and who gave you the right to call me old?” Kisuke adjusted his hat. “Did I need a reason?” he quipped, hiding behind his fan again. He smirked. “I don’t think so. Not when you did take the Old Man’s chair.”
Shunsui rubbed the back of his neck. “So I’m stuck with that name?” he murmured. “It’s not sexy at all.” Turning his pouting face from the ceiling to Yumiko, he smiled. “Yumi-hime, surely you have a better nickname for me than Old Man.”

Yumiko winced before she could stop herself as that name created a collusion in her mind, flashes of light-hearted teasing from this man and the coaxing velvet tone of Aizen. Her shoulders stiffened as the fought off nausea and bitterness, closing her eyes and burying it deeper inside herself. “Sorry, Kyoraku-san,” she murmured, “I can’t think of anything now.”
She jolted as a large hand fell on her shoulder and looked up into his worried face. “It’s alright, Yumiko-chan. You have all the time in the world to come up with one,” Kyoraku stated. She leaned against him and glanced down at his other hand to find a book in his hand. She took it quietly.
