A ... baby?!
Gin's eyes narrowed, swiveling to the goddess and then back to the bitter-faced Kita. Kita was carrying.... Aizen's .....
As Kita retreated from the rage brimming in his eyes, he lowered his head, fury fading away to be replaced by shame. Again. Again, Aizen had hurt his most precious girl. And this time - he rose to his feet, hand on Shinsou.
"Where are you going?" Kita sniffed, not looking at him.
"I'm sorry, Kita," he said, tone dead. Her head snapped up, eyes wide. His eyes were colorless, nearly grey. "I will kill him. Tonight. I'm sorry I failed you." For a moment he looked deep into her darkened, beautiful eyes, overflowing with tears. "Raise the child. If you're the mother, they can't be evil." He turned away. "And if I fail at least you will be rid of someone who could never protect you."
I'm sorry.
I won't let it happen again.
No more.
Never.
Again.

"It's not a rape baby." Sumi said flatly. Gin so enraged he was not listening. Kita froze, her crying quickly stopped as she looked to Sumi her eyes wide.
"ICHIMARU!" Sumi spoke to him in a forceful tone. "Did you hear me?!"
Gin still paid her no mind until Sumi spoke to him again. "It's your child, Ichimaru. It is not Sousuke's"

Gin's shoulders stiffened. "Then I am glad," he bit out.
A child. Kita had a child. His child.
And that is what was wrong. It shouldn't be his. He lowered his head. He had no right to tie her down to him like this. Damn you, Aizen. Now she may never be able to go back to where she was happiest.

Kita looked to Sumi still shocked, her eyes still wide. "But I was with Aizen just days before the punishment on me and Yumiko. It's been a month since I have seen or been with Gin. Are you sure that its his?"
Gin whirled around looking at Kita in shock that she was questioning this. Sumi was giving her a dumbfounded look.
"Are you really questioning me? And no Aizen was not the last man you were with." Sumi waved her hand at Kita releasing her memories of three days past.
Kita then quickly turned looking at Gin. She blushed softly and cast her eyes down as she wrung her hands in her lap. "So..." Kita started to cry silently.
She was scared even more. Gin did not seem to be happy. Even though he said he was glad, his expressions and actions did not prove that. She did not expect him to be overjoyed. How could he be? His first child was coming from his pet. The wrong woman. She was not the woman he truly loved.
She pushed up from the ground her head still hung. She did not look at Gin or Sumi as she started to walk away from them. "I'm sorry, Master Gin." Her walk quickly turned into a run as she darted away from them and ran up the hill at the side of the cottage.

She didn’t get far. In fact, she had barely turned around before the fox whirled around and shunpo’ed behind her, wrapping his arms around her. “You’ll trip,” he whispered, eyes still clouded. “It doesn’t matter,” Kita cried out, struggling in his arms., but the bands around her were too strong for her in her emotional state. She pushed and pulled, and then gave up. Grabbing onto his arms, she collapsed, crying even more. “I’m so sorry, Master Gin. I’m sorry,” she sputtered, voice half lost to her hiccupping tears. Gin’s arms didn’t falter around her as she cried, though he remained silent. He couldn't let the child be hurt because of them. That was a fact he couldn't ignore. And... Kita had shed enough tears for his sake. This didn't need to be another reason to weep. Even if..... Eyes hidden by his silver bangs. I don’t deserve this. Still…
He wanted it. And her. But was it for the right reasons?
I am still selfish. “You’re tied to me now, dearie,” he finally said, without his usual teasing pitch, “even though you were in love with someone else,” he explained quietly, reaching up with one of his arms to stroke her hair. His eye slitted up, hiding. Thought he didn't know why. “Even if I have let Ran go…. I’m the one who should be sorry,” he murmured.

Kita wiped her tears away. "I've always been tied to you. In some way or another, there has always been a bond there. A connection. A tie, but it was always something you could walk away from if you wanted." She started to weep again. "Now I feel as if I have trapped you." She started shaking her head slightly. "You're a free spirit. Marching to the beat of your own drum."
Kita became quiet for a long moment before she turned in his arms and looked at him. "I won't tie you down with this if you want to leave. If you want to return to Rangiku when we are finally free of this hell. I won't stop you. I won't hang the baby over your head to make you stay. You're free to do whatever you wish. I won't trap you like Aizen has done. I love you too much and I don't want to be part of your pain and misery anymore. I have hurt you or gotten you hurt enough."

“You haven’t hurt me,” Gin replied almost as soon as she had stopped talking. “I am the one who has hurt you. Over and over,” he continued, rubbing at her wet cheek. Her head lowered. His eyes narrowed beneath his bangs. The scent of tears weighed heavily on her person, hiding her usual aroma. How long had she been worried sick by this? How long had she felt scared, trapped, and ..... sorry? “Stop that,” Kita muttered, catching his hand. She pulled it from her cheek and opened it, tracing lines on his palm. “I know why you did and it was to protect me.” Kita looked up again, managing a small smile. “That doesn’t count," she said, tone a little brighter. Hopeful. Gin was silent. Doubting. Then, slowly, his gaze drifted down to her stomach where his child was growing. His child. Slowly, almost cautiously, worried there was some trick, he set his hand over her own. “Then,” he said at last, hesitantly, “then don’t say you hurt me with this. If we were already tied...." he sighed deeply, "then our child isn't a mistake..."

Kita leaned into him resting her head to his chest. "I am relieved to know that its your child and not Aizen's, but now I have never been more scared." She sighed heavily burying her face into his chest. "I don't want to go back."
"Kita. If you do not go back to Las Noches you know what will happen to the others." Sumi told her. "And I am not just talking about Yumiko and Orihime. I am talking about Karakura Town and Soul Society. Aizen will wreak havoc across the land on everyone until you are returned to him. Are you willing to let that happen?"
Kita looked to Sumi. "Of course not."
Sumi nodded. "As long as Aizen believes this child belongs to him. You and your son will be safe. However..." Sumi paused with a long sigh.

“What?” Gin snapped. “It is not just Aizen who has to believe it,” Sumi said quietly. “When you leave here, Kita, the hallucination Vale has on you will return, and if you believe you are carrying Gin’s child you… will kill it,” the goddess finished in the same sad voice.
Kita gasped, wrapping her arms around her stomach. “I-I would…” She felt sick.
Suddenly, Gin whirled around, Shinsou spinning out of its sheath and ripping through a dozen of the large trees around him. He stood with his back to them all, hands clenched as the landscape pieced itself together, blood lust radiating off his stiff body.
“I will destroy them both,” he hissed, eyes overflowing with fury.
How dare the hallucination go that far?

Kita reached out hesitantly, her hand drawing back slightly from touching Gin's rigid shoulder. Slowly and gently she let her hand slide to his shoulder. She let her hand firmly grip his shoulder in comfort. Looking away from Gin, Kita lowered her head turning it slightly Sumi's away as she spoke to her.
"So I guess you're gonna make me forget all this? And again I will believe the lie Aizen told me?"
Sumi nodded, "and I will make you acceptable to the idea of this being his child, so you will not run off again." She turned to look at Gin. "This is the only way to keep both of them safe. The hallucination will still be intact, but I will add a few extra personality traits to keep her and the baby safer."

Gin didn’t turn around but a visible wince went through his shoulders. “So be it,” he lisped, barely keeping his dark feelings in check. However, he didn’t pull away from Kita’s hand as he might have before. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to block out what Kita would become this time. “How long do we have?” he asked a few moments later.

Sumi sighed as she started to fade from Kita's view. "I will give you tonight."
Gin tensed, his hands tightening more, his fingers near white from lack of blood flow as he lowered his head more.
"Sumi?! Please." Kita's tone begged as her hand became firmly gripped to Gin's shoulder.
Sumi had disappeared but her voice still lingered around them. "Three days then. No more... Since Sousuke has Azayaka back, his attention will be focused on her."
Their surroundings became quiet as they both stood there in silence. Sumi's voice then softly echoed around them once more. "Make the most of your time together. I don't know when you will be able to see one another again."
Kita sighed as her head tipped forward. She looked down at her stomach resting her free hand over it. "Why can't we just run. Go some place he will never find us and hurt us again." her words were softly spoke, but Gin had heard her clearly as he turned and took her in his arms pulling her close to him.
"I just want this to be over." Hot tears rolled down her cheeks again.

"No more crying," he whispered into her ear. "Not now." He pulled away reluctantly to stroke her chapping cheeks. His eyes softened. "You've been doing enough of that." He looked over his shoulder and then stepped fully away from her. Kita whimpered, but Gin slid his hand into hers. Turning away again, he led her slowly up the hill she had started running up. Kita followed quietly.
Gin walked up the hill for a few feet then turned into the woods, clearing the path before him. Kita's hand relaxed in his as she stared at the beauty around them, but he could still feel the weight of her gaze on him. She was confused. In spite of the weight on his mind, Gin felt a smile tug at the corner of his lips. He walked into a small clearing next to a bee's nest and released her hand, still not saying a word.
Approaching the nest, he drew Shinsou and sliced through a piece of the nest. As it fell to the ground, he waited for the bees to disperse before walking closer. He carried the piece of honeycomb to her and broke it apart. One hand dipped into the honey and offered a finger to her. As she tentatively licked at the sweet liquid, she heard a crunch and Gin's other hand spread an lumpy coat of beeswax on her cheek.

Kita fought back her tears as she bit her bottom lip, then smiled sadly at him. Her heart broke into a million pieces as she looked into his eyes. She felt as if this was going to be the last time she would ever see him. She then spoke softly as he rubbed beeswax on her other chapped cheek.
"I feel so small and so over my head right now. I feel as if know nothing at all." She paused and lowered her eyes. "I know I am going to stumble and fall. Hell, I'm still learning how to love." She looked up at him her smile still sad, pools of tears that have not fallen. Her hand rested on her stomach. "And now. I am bringing life into a world I hate." She shook her head lowering her eyes again then looking back up into Gin's. "You know I'd follow you anywhere. You're the one I love and I'll be the one, if you want me to." She bit her bottom lip again, turning her eyes from him, her tears now falling.
"But I'm not past swallowing my pride and letting you walk away if that is what you want." She wiped away her tears as they fell. "I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you." A small light giggle escaped her. "Gods know I tried when I realized I loved you."
Her head dropped again, "I'm sorry. In truth. It's me that's not worthy of you. You have done so much for me and I have done nothing but bring you more pain and suffering, and now..." Both of her arms wrapped around her midsection. "I have made it worse."

“Stop saying you made it worse, dearie,” Gin murmured, tilting her head up. “I don’t think the child is a bad thing.” The fox paused, wondering what else to say then decided to be blunt. “My distance has nothing to do with Ran. Really, I have never responded to your confessions of love because, Kita, you are not mine.”
As she opened her mouth to speak, Gin quickly shut her up by stealing one kiss, bittersweet by the taste of tears. He chuckled. “You still taste of heaviness, pet,” he murmured, lifting the hand still holding a cone of honey. Kita couldn’t help but giggle slightly and took it. She looked up at him, licking her fingers.
He hesitated then motioned for her to follow him. Finding another clearing and a smooth rock, he sat down and looked at her. She sat on the grass at his feet. He took a breath. “You don’t have your memories, Kita, or you would never say that you are learning how to love.” He glanced up at the perfect sky above them. “You know about the emotions of love and tolerance more than anyone I know,” he boasted quietly. Looking back at her, his crooked smile rose, the sadness growing in his eyes. “You have someone you love, too. Maybe you won’t get back together, but until you have all your memories back, I will not respond to you …. any more than I already have,” he emphasized. His bangs slid over to hide his eyes. "Because as anyone, even Aizen, has seen, I can't keep away. And that's not all friendship, even if I can't quite explain it all to you."
He set his chin on his sticky hand. “You may feel you are over your head here, dearie, but I am certain you will do well. As always.” His smile grew. “And now I have to be there to see it. It’s a strange perspective for me.”
