Tsukiro sighed and nodded. "Alright. I will." He made a sour face. "I won't like it. But I'll take your advice."

"Waking Up":Yumiko awoke slowly, tears falling down her face, as Orihime’s biting words echoed in her mind, as if from a distance. She blinked. They didn’t hurt. They just … were. Turning her head to the side, she sighed as she recalled more moments, trying to place how she got here. Flashes passed through her mind’s eye. Vale questioning her at night, Aizen releasing his zanpakuto and how easily she slipped into the illusion he placed over her, Ichimaru’s blunt statement about Mizue’s power … and Kita crying. Yumiko looked up, seeing her zanpakuto on a table near her bed. She reached for it and stopped as she came up against a barrier. She smiled sadly. Just in case I try to hurt someone again… A tear slipped past her eye, and she looked downwards.

“It’s not your fault,” a gentle voice murmured from above her. Juushiro walked into the room as Captain Kotetsu raised the barrier once more. He smiled at his pale student and brushed the tear away. “Yumiko, do you recognize me?”
She nodded and he released an inner sigh. “Do you mind if I sit down?”
When she nodded, he sat down on a corner of her bed, reaching for her hand, noting how she did not move away or return the gesture. She was pulling away, like she would in the sealing when she felt lost and felt like she couldn’t ask for support. Continuing to smile gently, the captain lifted and slid a cup of hot chocolate into her hand, enfolding both of hers around it. She stayed silent, but her hands, stayed firmly around the warm mug.
Juushiro sighed. “Yumiko, nothing that has happened because of the work of Las Noches is your fault. Nothing. I don’t know why you were crying, but the blame isn’t yours to bear.”

Yumiko quietly lifted the cup to her lips, drinking slowly. As the warm liquid soothed her mind and she looked down into the cup, she couldn't fight the tears from returning. She wiped them away, trying to focus on Ukitake's words. “I hope - I hope you’re right. I know I hurt someone terribly but I can’t - I can’t remember how.”
It was as if there was a wall between her memories and her emotions. She didn’t remember creating it.
“Is Kita alright?” she asked, trying to distract herself from the tears rolling down her cheeks.

Juushiro pulled her trembling body into his arms and held her close. “Kita is unharmed, Yumiko, and even if something did happen, it wouldn’t be your fault. She would not blame you.” He held her as her tears and shaking calmed and then let her go. He paused, eyes serious, considering and then took her hand again. “Yumiko, Aizen is gone. He’s dead.” As she jolted, his free hand wrapped around the mug of cocoa, keeping it steady, as he continued. “He died by Ichimaru’s hand and has no power over you now. It is over.”

It was over. Trying to decipher the lies and truths in the dreams and nightmares, the balance of resisting and obeying to protect her heart, finding moments of beauty and peace to shut out the darkness, even fighting the seductive pull of the words uttered by Koga, Aizen, and ….. Vale. Yumiko closed her eyes, composing herself. It was over.
“Does - does that mean I am done hiding?”

Juushiro nodded. Inwardly he worried about the disconcerting appearance and disappearance of new Septima Espada and the escape of Tervaden; however, there was no doubt that hiding her now to ease his mind on those situations was the wrong path. He leaned forward and kissed her forehead. There were other ways to protect her. “I would like you to stay here for a while, Yumiko, considering what you have been through, but yes, when you leave the medical ward, you won’t be disappearing again. I’m sorry it took so long.”
He stroked her head as Yumiko took a deep breath to stay composed and continued talking to her. “You know Captain Kotetsu, even if you don’t remember her. I want her to do a full examination.” She started shaking her head and he shushed her quietly “If you want Urahara to remove the filters, we can wait on that. There is no hurry.” She nodded and closed her eyes.
“Do you want to meet Kotetsu-san again now while I am here?”
Yumiko nodded. Juushiro squeezed her hand and rose to find Isane.

Yumiko looked after the friendly captain she could barely remember but knew she could trust for a moment and then down to her hot chocolate. She sipped the warm liquid as more tears started to leak out of her eyes. She wasn't sure if it was shock, fear, relief, or nerves. Maybe all of the above. And maybe.... it was because of her last exchange with Ori - Inoue. Yumiko lowered the cup and tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear, breathing deeply, partly wanting to know why she was crying and partly relieved she didn't know.
Not knowing could be a blissful thing.

Partaking in light chitchat as they entered the room Isane looked to the young girl Juushiro brought her there to met. Even though she had met Yumiko before she humored the girl in meeting again. Isane knew the girls held in Las Noches had been through some hard times. Yumiko and Kita enduring the most since their stay there was much longer than the others. Isane only imagined the things the two girls could tell her of their stay, but then again. She was not sure her heart could handle the stories they would tell.
She bowed to the noble girl smiling warmly, "hello Miss Ryouma. How are you feeling today?"

Yumiko smiled weakly at her as she registered the voice from somewhere in her memories. “I am alright, Captain Kotetsu,” she murmured, bowing her head. “I will adjust,” she said continued with the same smile.
Isane stood erect looking at the young noble girl. "I am glad to hear that and I am sure that adjustment will come much quicker now that you are home, and with no worries of being dragged back with Aizen's death."
Yumiko looked down into her cup of hot chocolate. "I hope so." Her hands tightened on the drink. "Kotetsu-san, now that I am here, will I regain the memories I lost?"
Isane looked to Juushiro her head slightly tilted. She was not sure what memories she was asking of. Were they the memories that she lost from the sealing or were they memories Aizen had stolen from her? She looked back to the young noble. "I am not sure what memories you are asking about Miss Ryouma. Could you clarify please?"

Juushiro came over with a new cup of hot chocolate, setting the lukewarm one to the side. Sitting next to his student again, he started to explain to Isane. “Because she was unsealed incorrectly, she lost the majority of her memories from the long period when she was sealed. Aizen has taken other memories or such at least one time.” He clasped Yumiko’s hand in his. “Do you still have the headaches?” he asked. Yumiko shook her head. “No, but….” she paused and then looked down. “A lot has happened. “ She took a breath. She put a hand to her head. “There was something different about me …. before he used Kyoka on me. I can’t place what.”
“Then don’t try now,” the captain murmured.
He turned back to Isane. “Szayel locked all of her memories of Soul Society away, and when Kita revealed the truth about Las Noches and Aizen, she got terrible headaches until Kisuke used a pulse of kido to relieve the pressure, during which she passed out. What Szayel locked - I think - came back-
"Pieces," Yumiko murmured. "Most of the pieces came back. There are still dark spots."
Juushiro's eyes narrowed but continued with his explanation for the healer. "Kisuke also mentioned that some of the headaches could be her own mind trying to get back what she lost when she was unsealed.”

Isane nodded, "I see. Well Yumiko. I am sorry to say there is no quick fix for your memories that were damaged during the improper unsealing. They will have to return on their own." She walked over and patted the young girls shoulder. "The brain is very complex and in being so something like a lost or damage memory has to regenerate on its own, but don't worry." She gave the young girl's shoulder a gentle squeeze.
"You're in the right place to start getting them back." With a quick pause she looked at Yumiko as she looked up at her. "Now if there something there blocking them we can fix that." She smiled warmly.

Yumiko's smile grew slightly. “I’m glad anything of that nature can be erased,” she replied. She looked down and then lifted her cup, sipping the chocolate slowly, her eyes hardening and losing the wet, teary look as she started to regain her determination. She wouldn’t give up. Not at this point. She turned to Kotetsu and Ukitake-san. “I will be as helpful as I can.”

Isane patted her shoulder and chuckled softly. "You just rest right now. Remember. You're home now, don't rush the small stuff because things seem to lose their luster if you do. Always take time to smell the roses."
She let her hand drop to her side as she stepped toward the door. "I will be back by to examine you in a few hours, Miss Ryouma." She stopped at the door resting her hand to the door frame smiling warmly. "Was there anything else I could help the either of you with before I go?"
