Juushiro chuckled and Yumiko smiled wider at the words about the roses. "You're right, Kotetsu-san, I'll remember that." Her voice seemed lighter too. Juushiro felt some of his worry fade. She took another long drink of hot chocolate. "Kotetsu-san, is it - is it safe for me to have Mizue back now?"
Juushiro and Isane looked at each other, exchanging a silent conversation, before the healer nodded. She waved her hand, dropping the barrier around the zanpakuto. Yumiko let he zanpakuto stay on the table but noticeably relaxed.
"Thank you, Kotetsu-san," she murmured.
With another warm smile, Kotetsu nodded. She looked to Juushiro and shook her head at him. "Please don't stay up all day. You can't support anyone if you collapse."
Juushiro smiled and laughed lightly. "I understand, Isane-san." She nodded, shaking her head again, and exited the room, closing the barrier around the room again before closing the door.

"Light vs. Shadow":A few days had passed in Soul Society since the blatant display from Las Noches. Hinamori was still asleep. Hitsugaya stopped by each day to deliver some flowers to his friend, but when she didn't wake, he returned to his division, icy reiatsu fanning out behind him. Juushiro sighed as he passed the monochrome white doors to her room, opening it quietly. Each day, both Isane and he had fed their energy to the girl, hoping to break through to her. Today, Isane was releasing the last of the patients that had survived the attack from the Cero espada. Closing the door behind him, Juushiro took his chair and pulled it closer to the lieutenant. He set a hand on her forehead, eyes on her face. "Come on, Hinamori. You know you have friends here. Don't give up." He closed his eyes and started sending his energy into her body.

"Hinamori..." A voice echoed in her mind as she lay unconscious. "Don't you hear the Captain speaking to you, dear? Why don't you wake up and speak to him."
Hinamori's eyes shot open. Her eyes darted around as her blurred vision failed to take in her new surroundings. "Where...Where am I?" she asked between breathes. Her dry mouth and throat making it hard to speak.

“Don’t rush,” Juushiro murmured above her. “You’re in the medical ward of the Fourth Division.” Smiling gently in relief, he filled a cup from the cold pitcher nearby. Helping Hinamori sit up, he gave her the cup and helped her take a slow sip, pulling it away before she could sip too much and choke. He did this a couple times until her hands seemed steady enough to hold it on her own.

Hinamori nodded. "Thank you, Captain Ukitake." She rubbed her eyes and looked around the room. "How...How did I get here? I remember...I remember the Espada...Then..." Tears began to stain her face as she grabbed her blankets.
"You know how. Don't be so coy. You know what happened. Share it with the Captain."

Juushiro kept his anger hidden as he squeezed her hand gently. "I am sorry you suffered, Hinamori." He paused. "If it will help, you can tell me. If you would rather wait for Isane or another day, that is more than alright too. But please don't forget you are not alone."

Hinamori tilted her head and smiled. "But, I have always been alone, Sickly. You abandoned me. You even tried to kill me. Why else would you not come for me?" Ukitake released her hand, as Hinamori shook her head with wide eyes. "Ca-" Hinamori continued to shake her head. "Captain, I didn't mean it. I..."

Juushiro set his hand on her forehead. "It's alright, Hinamori," he smiled. "I know it's not your fault. Please trust me." He wiped a tear away before his eyes hardened.
"Vale Tervaden, say your piece and let her go. Let her go or I will expel you." His eyes narrowed. "And you know I can."

Hinamori smiled again, this time pushing away Ukitake. "Expel what? A single fragment? A single fragment that none of you can see, touch or catch?" Tears poured down her face. "Why the pale face, Sickly?"

Juushiro could feel his heart pounding at the torture Vale was putting Hinamori through, even now, but at his taunt, his green eyes narrowed again. His own health didn’t matter at this point. Reiatsu swirling around him, the captain stood and drew his zanpakuto. “I will warn you once more, and only once more, Vale Tervaden. Release Lieutenant Momo Hinamori, or I will tear you from her.”

"Go ahead!" shouted Hinamori. "Tear apart the beautiful truth just to get to the ugly lie! Be mindful, Juushiro. You know exactly what will come of this." Hinamori looked over to Ukitake, her eyes saddened and begging for him to end her pain.

Juushiro paled further and reached for Hinamori, only for his hand to be slapped away. “Do it! Finish what I started. I’ll enjoy the show!”
Juushiro’s eyes sharpened again. “So be it,” he said, tone emotionless. He turned as two worried assistants entered the room, eyes widening at the stance and the weight of reiatsu. He nodded to them. “Leave the room, and tell your captain I am using my Bankai.” Blinking in confusion but unwilling to disobey a captain, they left.
Juushiro turned to the figure of Hinamori. “Hang in there, Lieutenant. You’re strong enough you’ll pull through this.”
“Ha!” the female scoffed. “The way you cling to hope makes me sick. You’re so clueless.”
“SHUT UP!”
Hinamori fell silent.
Juushiro called Sogyo no Kotowari’s transformation, feeling slightly warm, in spite of what he was about to do. “I’m sorry Hinamori,” he whispered. He closed his eyes, gathering the geyser of reiatsu inside him. He unleashed it. The walls creaked and Hinamori collapsed to the bed, reaching out to him, eyes wide with fear. Pleading.
The captain quietly locked his blades together. “Bankai.”
His hair fanned out behind him as the blades morphed, becoming slimmer. He freed the blades and the chain connecting them shattered. A longer chain circled Juushiro once and then connected again. His grunted as his territory spread out, using the well of his reiatsu to wrap around each person, weighing on his still tired body. The shred of Vale’s reiatsu caught along with all the rest. Healing kido remlained untouched.
Quickly, he crossed his blades again, choosing his target. “Henka Onmyoudou no Kotowari*,” he called out.
What was darkness turned slowly into light, morphing into the opposite of what was caught.
His eyes opened and narrowed, shooting the light through the connection to the strand of reiatsu caught in his hold. Screaming, Vale let go.
Juushiro recalled his Bankai. He doubled over, starting to cough deeply.

Vale sat on the steps leading to the throne, his head resting in his hands. "You old fool. How much further do I have to push you before you break? There are other people who need breaking..."

Last Shot: Aftermath": (continued)
Isane walked quickly down the hall as more and more wounded were rushed into the medical ward. Stopping only when needed to examine the most crucial that past her in her rush to the front of the ward. On her way she saw Ukitake walking up the hall headed the same way. Picking up her pace she veered in front of him catching him by placing her hands on his shoulders.
"And where do you think you're going?" Isane asked him, her tone less than pleased at his attempt to go help. "They need me out there," Juushiro replied. Isane shook her head vigorously, "That might be so, but I cannot allow you out of this ward in your condition, Juushiro. I have my hands full enough without having to worry about you as well." She turned him around walking him back to his room. "Please. I am not asking. I am begging you. Stay put." She opened the door to his room. "The report on Kyoraku was not good, but I have yet to come across him to confirm this. So please, stay in your room where you will be safe. As soon as I have examined Kyoraku, I will come inform you of his condition. I promise."
Juushiro sighed as he looked at her. She knew it was not in his nature to just sit around in times like this, but she also knew she did not need to have two of the pillars of Soul Society down at the same time. Juushiro was on the up side of healing. They were going to need him if the reports on Kyoraku were correct. "Please Captain. We are going to need you when this is all over."
Juushiro gave her a weak smile and nodded as he returned to his bed. Closing the door Isane turned only to hear the booming voice of Captain Komamura beckoning her assistance for the Commander. Quickly Isane made her way to the front of the ward. When Isane saw the Captain Commander, her heart sank and her eyes filled with tears. Choking her tears back, trying to stay strong, she examined Kyoraku, but after her examination of his body, she had to turn away as her tears now fell freely. Even with all of her energy focused on him, and him alone, she could never heal him to his full capabilities of the Captain Commander they all knew as the main strength and leaning post he once was for them.
Her head lowered, her hands came to her face as she tried to quickly regain her composer trying to think of something to help the Captain Commander.

Juushiro fell to his bed, body already tired from the small exertion he’d put on it, though he wondered if it was more due to the sight before his eyes. Sighing, he turned to the window. It didn’t matter which one. Smoke curled upwards towards the sky in each large view. Lives vanished and the shaking of long-standing buildings rumbled throughout the city. He closed his eyes, knowing Isane was correct in her evaluation, that what he could do now wouldn’t be as important as being around after the nightmare had eclipsed. A tear leaked down his face. It didn’t make waiting any easier on his heart. “HE’S NOT ALLOWED TO FALL!” The frenzied, desperate scream of a woman, Nanao, brought him out of his haze of grief.
Leaning on the wall, Juushiro made his way out of his room and down the hall. He entered into pandemonium. The bloody form of Nanao was shaking the still form of his closest friend, whose signature of power was flicking like a dying candle, and the huge form of Sajin, amber eyes shimmering with his own fears, had hauled Isane upwards by her kimono. “STOP STANDING THERE AND DO SOMETHING!” he hollered. Juushiro took a weak step of shunpo to join the panicked group. “Isane, Sajin, Nanao, Shunsui is still alive,” he stated clearly, grabbing the large man’s coat with his hand, before continuing. “And if he is beyond our skill to heal, there is another who can. Have faith.” He looked around the large ward and located the near invisible form of this division’s watchman. He called out to the stealth force member. “Find an able lieutenant and send for Kisuke. Tell him the commander is severely injured and we need Kita.” The man vanished, only appearing a few minutes later next to Lieutenant Abarai at the side of his defeated captain.
Sighing, Juushiro made his way to a bench and sat down. He’d support his people from here.
