Yumiko started and turned around. “It’s not-” she slipped and started falling down the ladder, but Vale caught her in his arms. She smiled in gratitude, blushing again, and brushed some hair out of his eyes. “It… it’s not like that, Vale. You’re not that kind of a secret. Please believe me.” She closed the distance between them and kissed him, jolting with a hiss as she brushed against a cut up her forearm from her fall.

Vale turned and sat Yumiko on a bench. He gently took hold of her arm and turned it to see the cut. Turning to the table behind them, Vale grabbed his first aid kit. He smiled at her and held up his hands. "I get hurt a lot." He cleaned and dressed her cut carefully, before standing.
"Look, Yumiko...I believe you. I'm trying my hardest to be patient. I really am. I would tell them But, Kisuke isn't exactly a fan of mine. Kita probably wouldn't care. And, Orihime is actually happy for me."

Yumiko tilted her head at him. “Why is it so important to you that others know if we know that most won’t be happy for you and will discourage me to continue this relationship?” she asked quietly. “I understand about Orihime. She set you free - so to speak - but the others?” she prompted. “Why do you want them to know?”

"Because you deserve to be happy..." began Vale, looking away from Yumiko. "And, you're happiest when you're with them. You're open. You're honest and carefree." Vale slowly turned a red pot on the table. "I just want you to be happy. I...Um..." Vale smiled weakly, still looking away.

Yumiko blushed and looked away, her heart swelling at his words. “Vale…. you….” she looked up just as the bell rang at the front of the store.
Her lover cursed under his breath, kissed her cheek, smiling wider, and then left to attend to the customer.
Yumiko lifted a hand to her cheek. Staring in place for a few moments, she thought back to the past few weeks. Each time she had visited, Vale had acted a complete gentleman, keeping his touches fleeting or to the privacy of his apartment. The balance only changed when he wanted her in his bed. Yumiko folded her arms and laid her head on the table.
Maybe it was time to give another part of herself to him.
Why hadn’t she told anyone yet?

Vale returned, knocking loudly on the table Yumiko was resting on. "What's wrong, Love?" He sat actors from her, and took her hand in his. "You don't have to tell them, Yumiko. I was just curious. That's all." Leaning across the table, he kissed her hand. He stood and took ahold of the ladder. "I can live with them not knowing."

Yumiko started from her daze and smiled again. “I wasn’t upset, Vale. Just thinking.” She stood from the chair and walked over to him. “I don’t know why I haven’t told them, so I was trying to find the answer in myself.” As he set the ladder back underneath the rose, she chuckled and walked over, touching his arm. “What can I do so you don’t start cursing the beauty this time?”

Vale sighed, looking over his shoulder as he began climbed the ladder. "I wasn't cursing the rose." answered Vale. "Just the distance between us."
Yumiko looked down and steadied the ladder with her hands. "There isn't a lot of distance between us, is there?" she asked.
Vale looked down at Yumiko, frowning. "If you think that there isn't...Then, no." He grunted loudly before turning and sliding down the ladder as Yumiko moved away. "I want you to stay with me when you're in Karakura. Tell your friends about us, so I don't have to keep pretending there's nothing between us. I like us, Yumiko! I...I...Don't like you."

Heart clenching, Yumiko stepped backwards, holding a hand to her chest. She almost fled, but a memory surfaced, before the breaking of Soul Society - when Vale threw her to the ground but seemed to saying something else…. Had never stopped her lethal attack. She shook her head. She had to give him a chance. “If you don’t like me….” she whispered, voice trembling, “what do you think of me?”
Why are we together then? Am I a possession again?

Vale sighed, taking a step towards Yumiko. Reaching out, he grabbed her hand and pulled her close. "That...That's not what I meant, love." He pulled her to a nearby bench and sat her down. "Ok...I like you, Yumiko. I don't know why I said that. You..." Vale sighed and lowered his head. "You...um..."
Vale sighed again, this time shaking his head as he did. He leaned close and shyly kissed the woman next to him. "I love you, Yumiko Ryouma. I uh...I love you..." Vale immediately sprang up from his seat and walked towards the door of the shop.

Yumiko didn’t stay still long, springing from her chair, stepping past the pot she tipped over in her hurry, and finally caught his hand before he could get outside the door. “It’s not nice to run away after saying something like that, rogue.” She ran her free hand up his face, brushing the bangs from his face. She smiled gently. “Are you scared?”

Vale held tightly to Yumiko's hand, pulling her from the shop. "A little." He turned and locked the door, before turning and heading up the stair leading to his apartment. "You don't feel the same. And, that's ok. I can wait until you do. Or, die before you do. I'm ok with it."

“Vale….” Yumiko whispered, stunned. As they reached the landing and Vale tugged her against him, she stared, as if transfixed, by his words. “You give so much.” She lifted up to the small distance between him and kissed him slowly. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. “It’s my turn.” She kissed him again, and with her free hand, the one not around his neck, opened the door to the apartment. It was her turn to take a step towards him, to trust, and to give. Not just surrender. She didn’t feel the same - not yet - but maybe she could fill some of the emptiness inside him by reaching out to him. And not just for her own sake. Moved

"Stepping Away" (continue):Yumiko entered the apartment and ignoring the sight around her, reached for Mizue no Kagami, from where she had left her. She belted her zanpakuto to her side, violet piercing at the seeming quiet around her and she vanished again, appearing on the top of the shop. They’d shared this place - either in part or completely - for six full years. Her eyes passed over the lines of annual flowers often sold to start others’ gardens. Black and purple checkered violets covered with dashes of yellow or white competed for attention with waving daisies always catching the sunlight in a rainbow of colors. Their cousin the periwinkle asters seemed like tiny stars. Vivid lines of tulips stood proudly, like kings. And there were so many more. All of which she knew their names. Vale had taught her - to fill in the gaps that still haunted her. To give her more joy in their shop. The irises… the solemn flowers whose beauty shone most auspiciously in rain… had just begun to bloom. And in the back, the wall blended with their bride and joy, the array of climbing roses, small crowns in deepest vermillion shared a trellis with a younger rose in pale blush. The corners had been overtaken by two white bushes, one with pearly white blossoms that clustered together and another whose near ebony leaves wrapped around large, nearly transparent crowns with golden centers. Her eyes stopped on their newest family member, deep violet blooms, reaching upwards and leaning to the side with the elegant stripped orange- white blooms even with Vale urging it towards the older bushes of vibrant yellow. Even from above, the splendor of colors beckoned her and the bouquet of scents soothed her darkening mind. Her hand moved away from her blade. She couldn’t destroy it. With a sigh, tears pattered down on the roof, and she vanished again. Moved

"One Last Visit" (continued):
It took a little while to locate man with as little energy as Gary's had, but his former bond was enough to find him after he had indeed left the park. Gin halted on the quiet sidewalk, eyes narrowed on the old man leaning on a cane outside of the Hadashi Flower Shop. He perused the area, paused at the distraught signature of Ryouma, but then focused again on the bastard. He shouldn't be able to sense anything. Not in his human form.
"What are you doing here, old man? You never show any remorse for those you trod on. I doubt a man as volatile as Tervaden is any different."
