"Yeah, no matter how long it takes, I'll forge a bond with my zanpakuto spirit that can't be broken," Haku resolved with a firm nod. He grabbed one of the menus beside them with a smile at Makino. "So, should we finally decide what we want to order?"
"Sure," she grabbed up a menu as well, "what sounds good?" she let her eyes glance of the food items.
"Kara'age, definitely," Haku hummed. "Tempura shrimp and veggies. Some korokke. Miso soup maybe? Also fried rice since I can eat that with a spoon. And chicken and beef skewers."
Makino grinned, her eyes lighting up. “That sounds perfect—let’s order all of it.” She smiled warmly at him. "After my morning training with Kouen I am starved."
"I bet," Haku laughed, waving over the waitress. "You and your brothers always go all out. Even for training." Haku placed their order and the waitress refilled their tea before taking the ticket over to the kitchen. He turned back to Makino with a grin. "So, are you excited for the academy in a month?"

Makino's eyes sparkled with excitement as she leaned forward slightly. “I can’t wait! I’m really looking forward to seeing what my zanpakuto powers will be once I start training with a real asauchi.”
Her enthusiasm was clear, and she couldn’t help but smile wider. “I’ve been dreaming about it for so long, and now it’s finally happening. I’m ready for whatever comes next.”

Haku smiled wistfully at Makino's excitement. "It's a lot of work and dedication. I put a lot of time into channeling all of the energy I could into the asauchi I had. Now I'll have to work twice as hard to get back to where I was. I'm not trying to rush it," he shook his head, "but I do want to catch up."
He leaned his chin against his good hand with a shrug. "Though I also want to take this time to improve my Kido abilities. If Ichigo was able to toss me through a wall with Hado 1, then I have a lot to learn about Kido. I didn't even know Hado 1 could get that strong!"

Makino nodded in agreement, her eyes filled with understanding. “Yeah, six years feels like a long time, but I know it’ll go by faster than we think,” she said, her voice thoughtful. Then, a spark of curiosity lit up her face. “Speaking of the future, have you thought about what division you’d want to be in? Like, your dream division?”
She smiled, a little sheepish but excited. “For me, it’s either Division 2 or 5. I’m drawn to the stealth work in 2, but there’s something about the balance and reputation of Division 5 that’s really appealing, too.” She looked at Haku eagerly, curious to know his thoughts.

Haku grimaced and laughed. "So it's between Tsuki-nii and Captain Hirako, huh? Can't really say that's a contest for me. Captain Hirako is nice enough but he's... so weird," he shuddered. "But hey, at least it's not Twelfth Division!" Both of them shivered at the thought. Haku laughed again and nodded. "I think you'd like Tsuki-nii's division. Kairo-nii is a great lieutenant too. You might even make Third Seat one day! Then you'll be in charge of the Maggot's Nest."
Haku placed a hand on his chin and hummed in thought. "I guess I always assumed I would be in First Division, but if I had to list other options... Ninth Division sounds fun! Or maybe Third." He grinned, his smile growing wider. "Or, I could join Tenth Division! I mean, both Toshi-nii and I have white hair and ice zanpakuto, so I guess I'd fit right in. Though I'd feel sorry for the other division members. If the barracks are cold now, then they'd really be cold!"

Makino laughed at the thought, shaking her head. “Tenth Division does sound like a good fit for you, especially with all that ice. Poor division members would be freezing constantly, but you’d definitely make it interesting!”
She then tilted her head in thought, her smile softening. “As for me, I do think the Onmitsukidō might suit me better than Division 2. The stealth and special operations work seems right up my alley. But I have no idea how I’d even get in there. I guess I’ll just have to keep working hard.”
She chuckled, her eyes twinkling. “And yeah, dealing with Kin for so many years, Shinji doesn’t scare me at all.”

Haku raised an eyebrow at Makino. "Hirako-san is nothing like Kin-sama! I think Captain Hirako would drive him up a wall!" They both laughed at the imagery. Haku shrugged. "You can join both or one or the other when it comes to Second Division and the Stealth Force. Some of the ranks are tied together, like captain, lieutenant, and third through fifth. But there are also roles in Second Division that don't include stealth missions. They do more of the planning and investigative side of the missions. Briefings before and after missions, target research, and even undercover missions that don't directly require the Onmitsukido. But if you're really looking for that element of urgency and danger, then the Onmitsukido is definitely what you want to go for. The Academy has a specific program for it. I think you can join it after your first two years but maybe you could get in an accelerated program."

Makino gave Haku a playful look of disbelief. "Really? Do you remember what my family does for a living?" she teased, raising an eyebrow. "Urgency and danger aren’t exactly foreign concepts to me."
She leaned back in her chair, smiling. "But still, I think you're right. The Onmitsukidō sounds like it would suit me better, especially with that element of stealth. And hey, an accelerated program sounds even better. I’d love the challenge." Her eyes gleamed with determination, clearly excited about what lay ahead.

Haku shook his head with a laugh as the waitress brought their food to the table, setting communal plates of fried foods an individual servings of miso soup and fried rice. Once the waitress was gone, Haku continued, grabbing a spoon and digging into his fried rice. "I haven't forgotten. I'm just saying, if you think you'll miss those things, then go with what you know." He hummed in delight as he scarfed down spoonfuls of fried rice. "The fried foods are so good here."

Makino nodded, picking up a piece of kara'age with a smile. "Yeah, you're right. But Kin did remind me that no matter where I end up—academy, division, or otherwise—my work with the family won't ever stop. I’ll always have one foot in both worlds."
She took a bite of the chicken and let out a content sigh. "That being said, I think I can balance it. And who knows, maybe the skills I learn in the Onmitsukidō will come in handy for family business too."

Haku nodded and took a korokke and dipped it into the sauce it was served with. After biting into it and washing it down with his tea, he continued. "So... what division do you see me in? Just out of curiosity. Kind of like a personality test," he laughed. "We know where we would put ourselves, but it's interesting to know where your friends would put you."
Makino took a bite of her tempura shrimp, her expression shifting into one of mock seriousness. "Division Eleven," she said flatly, not missing a beat. She kept her tone even, watching Haku's face closely.
His expression froze, eyes wide in disbelief, and Makino couldn’t hold it in anymore. She burst into laughter, clutching her side as she saw the shock on his face. "Oh, come on, Haku! You should've seen your face!"
Still laughing, she wiped a tear from her eye. "But really, I think Thirteen or even Three would fit you good. Where do you see me? Be honest."
"I feel like in Thirteen I would be worrying about Take-jisan more than anything. Even more than I do now," Haku gave a smile that seemed a little guilty. He hummed and placed his good hand on his chin, nodding slowly. "I think... You would do well in Third as well. Maybe even Ninth. I think any of the easy-going divisions would be too boring for you. You'd be falling asleep at your desk!"

Makino chuckled, shaking her head. "You're probably right. I need a division that'll keep me on my toes. Falling asleep at a desk doesn't really sound like my style." She paused, taking a thoughtful sip of her tea. "Third or Ninth, huh? I could see that. They both sound like they'd have a good mix of action and strategy."
She grinned at him. "But if I end up falling asleep at my desk, you better come wake me up before anyone notices!"
"But it would be so funny to see you get in trouble for falling asleep on the job!" Haku laughed, making sure to use his good hand when he slapped the table. "You're such a rule follower when it comes to your family, I think it would be refreshing for you if you actually got in trouble. Hell, you might end up turning into a rebel."
"Hence the reason I think Division 2 would suit me better," Makino commented with a smile. "I’m sure they’re always busy with something or another."

"It sure seems like it," Haku nodded in agreement. He sighed contentedly as he finished off the koroke and his tempura. "Thanks for meeting me here today. I was sure you were worried or upset about what happened yesterday. I feel bad our training session got cut short. But hey, once my hand is completely healed, then we can have a rematch!" He grinned at her, gently flexing his bandaged hand. Makino smiled softly, shaking her head. "It's fine, really. I was worried about you, though. But when I got home, Kouen cornered me, and I ended up training with him instead." She chuckled lightly. "It wasn’t quite the same, but it kept me busy.""Well I'll have to make up for it then," Haku nodded in agreement. "Promise."
The two of them stuck around for a while longer while they finished their food, leaving no leftovers between the two of them. Once Haku had paid the bill--beating Makino to it--the two of them left to spend the rest of lunch walking around the district in search of something else to occupy them before they returned home. -END- "Returning to Earth"
