The captain commander turned around, pushing Tervaden forward, shadowed eyes stern and alert. “Leave the man to his grief.” He looked back to Toshiro. “She was a worthy woman and brave warrior. She will be missed, and justice will be served for her.” Whatever that may be, the commander finished in his head. He started forwards again. The division members parted, leaving the commander and Tervaden out in the courtyard. Shunsui reached into his kimono. He snapped a golden cuff on Tervaden’s wrist, sealing his reiatsu. A long chain connected the second one as Shunsui locked it onto his own wrist, giving the key to a guard. The man disappeared. When Tervaden raised the hand and eyebrows, Shunsui chuckled. “Don’t complain, Tervaden. Present action aside, you have done far too much to be left to wander free. You can still talk with your zanpakuto. That’s good enough until time passes and we have had a long, thorough talk.” Shunsui tipped his hat and looked to another of the guards accompanying him. “Go to the Academy and tell Testuya Sensei that I am keeping my word.” The man nodded and vanished. The captain commander looked to Tervaden. “Let’s go.” He shunpo’ed out of the division, Tervaden behind him by default. Moved

"Bonds and Promises": “So you can’t find anything after following the impostor's footsteps?” Shunsui murmured from his place on the couch. His informant shook her head, and he sighed, rubbing his chin. “Well…. it was a wild guess." He covered his head with his hat. And the Stealth Force has shown up with nothing either. “Sada Teruo was one of La Noches’ best. It stands to reason he would cover his tracks well. Too well for us to just piece together the missing pieces.” He raised his head. “Don’t fret so, Shizuka-chan. You do have a whole division to watch out for.”

Suzume’s head banged down on the desk. “No, I really am sorry. I should have known that he wasn’t the real thing. Even if he was a clone, there should have been something.” Her beet red, shamed and teary face lifted. “But I was paying too much attention to keeping my distance from people so I didn’t punch or throw them. “ She pushed up her blue spectacles. “I was being selfish.”
Nanao shook her head. “No, Suzume, you weren’t. If Toshiro were here, he’d tell you the same thing. This was Teruo. He could copy nearly anything about his target. And you were doing what you needed to heal from your own ordeal.”
“But-but he was – he was my FRIEND!” Suzume’s head fell back to the surface of the large desk. “I already lost Momo….. at least I should have been able to protect him…"
She jumped up. “I can do it. I’ll fin-” The chair toppled over with her in it.

“Suzume!” Nanao rushed over to the other side and halted with her hands on her hips. “You’ve got to be more careful, Shizuka. You’re the impromptu leader of this division now. Getting scrapes isn’t a good thing.” She bent down, pulling out her handkerchief, and dabbed at the cut on her young friend's forehead.
“It’s okay….” Suzume muttered. “I can heal it.”
“Stand still,” Nanao ordered. Suzume nodded. "You can heal the cuts when I am not around."
The girl nodded again and clenched her hands in her skirt. "He's not dead. Shiba-Taichou's not. So he's not."
It was Nanao's turn to nod. "We don't believe he is either. He's survived a bit too much to just take this laying on his back." She patted Suzume's forehead. "He's out there and we will find him. Until then, you got to keep a hold of yourself." She reached into her kimono sleeve and pulled out a band-aide, putting it over the scab. "There."

Shunsui walked over and leaned on the desk as the women emerged from behind it. “Rukia-chan’s made a miraculous recovery from Las Noches since we got here. So if you need,” he tipped his hat up, “I can send over Juushiro if you need a hand.” Nanao made an X with her hands, trying to tell him to stop, but he got an inkling that it wasn’t because it would hurt the young lieutenant’s feelings. “You’re also already going back and forth between Fifth Division and here, so Shinji may owe you something, too.”
“I don’t need that damned Oni’s HELP!” Suzume screeched. She pursed her lips, hazel eyes nearly green in her determination. “I’m stronger now. Taller. And I got my own troubles and….” She paused and lowered her head, playing with a thread on her shirt, “so does he. I’m fine. Really. You don’t have to worry him.”
Shunsui’s eyes regarded her solemn appearance for a few moments in silence. “If you’re sure....” he murmured.
And nearly took a step back when the girl lifted her head and went on a little rant.

“I can do this, commander,” she stated firmly. “I mean it’s not like this division isn’t used to people disappearing. I mean, according to records, even Shiba-sama was terrible with punctuality and being in the right place for normal things.” She covered her mouth. “I mean, he was a marvelous captain. He just liked to run away. Woops. I mean, Toshiro isn’t like that. He disappeared to get stronger and help us more. But Ran- Well before she – before she….” The light in her eyes dimmed. And then she hopped to attention again. “And there was third seat now Captain Ashimitsu. He kept running off, too. So don’t worry. I won’t let paperwork pile up. I will check ALL of the impostor’s work over the three years. AND I will keep people in line. You can trust me!” She giggled. “They don’t want to mess with me anyways right now. I’m still prone to hitting them.”
Realizing she was rambling, Suzume crossed her hands behind her back and gave a wide smile. “It’s fine. We’ll,” a tear fell down,” the division will be fine. Just trust us, sir. Please.” She bowed her head.

Watching her closely, Shunsui jumped when Nanao came over and poked his chest, the look behind her glasses clearly spelling doom to him if he didn’t say the right thing. The commander sighed. At least the words were the easier part. He reached up and stroked the girl's head. “I’ll find him, Shizuka," he murmured, "and I trust you. So take care of Hitsugaya’s people until we do. And don’t go getting hurt.”
The girl nodded, tears silently falling to the ground, as she stayed in her position.
Shunsui shook his head and turned around. Nanao said something to her before joining him. As they closed the door to the office, he looked over to her. “Are you going to say I can’t drink tonight, Nanao?”

Nanao wiped her spectacles off, clearing her own eyes of suspicious moisture. “We've got more work to do. Since Ukitake and yourself planned this meeting a while ago. And you two may be able to adjust your schedule if you took the break, but I’m afraid Kuchiki-Taichou has enough trouble to deal with even after three years.” She pushed her glasses up her nose. “You’d have to push the Captains’ Assembly further back. Is that what you want?”Her captain looked back in front of him, dark eyes narrowing. "It should have happened right after we learned of Teruo's covert activities," he muttered. "Then, we must push on." She nodded to the division members who opened the gate and set a hand on Shunsui's arm. "Rest after you get the outline set out." "Drinking isn't sleeping." "No, you just sleep excessively after." She pinched his arm. "I know you. It doesn't matter how many years have passed. That part has NOT changed."

"The Second Renewed":Yasu hovered over the desk of the Tenth Division, humming her tune as she twirled a strand of hair around her finger. She lowered her hand a bit, reaching into the opening of her kimono. From between her breasts she began to pull a pink scarf. Giggling as she continued to pull on the scarf, Yasu winked at the figure resting on its knees on the floor in front of the desk.
"Love is what cost you your life, dear. Let's hope, this time, it saves it." Yasu began to hum her tune once more, as she faded from the room.

Filler Arc - Pass the Post Halloween Challenge (Part 10 of 13)
"Dream": "Trick or Treat!" shouted voices on the other side of his door. He grunted, shaking his head as he returned to his work. The people on the other side began to knock on the door. Toshiro huffed and slammed his pen to the table. "No!""Come on, Captain!" a voice came calmly. "The Commander said that we could do this. You've got to participate." "No, I do not." said Toshiro, raising a hand to his temples. "Now, go away." Toshiro rubbed his temples as he continued to shake his head. After a few moments, outside grew silent. He sighed loudly, picking up his pen to return to his work. A knock came at the door, causing Toshiro to groan loudly. "Go away!" Toshiro rose loudly from his chair.
"You hard headed people need to leave me alone!" he shouted. "I want to finish my work!" Toshiro stalked over to the door and slid it open. No one was there. He narrowed his eyes as he threw his head back in a loud groan. "Leave me be! We are all not of the festive sort." Suddenly, he was pushed out of his office. The door slammed behind him.
"Hey!" Toshiro placed a hand to his door. "Lieutenant Matsumoto!" He began to bang on the door. "Rangiku! This is not funny! Open the door." Whatever pushed him outside of his office, knocked him hard against the door. Toshiro doubled over, feeling the stink of a punch to the gut. "Rangiku? What cruel joke is this?" Toshiro was thrown through the doors of his office as a tiny disfigured girl appeared in the doorway.
"Momo?" whispered Toshiro."You let me die!" "No!" shouted Toshiro. "I won't fall for this! This isn't real!" Toshiro closed his eyes and shook his head. "No!" Toshiro opened his eyes, finding himself in his own bed. He gave a sigh of relief then rolled over to his side. His eyes widened at the sight of a naked Rangiku in his bed. He stared at her for a few moments...
"...Don't be a dream..."To be continued....

"Former Captain":
Toshiro sat in front of a small side table, his elbow resting on the top of table as he leaned forward. He sighed, stirring the bowl of ramen with chopsticks. He picked up a piece of beef, letting it slip between the chopsticks.
"Are you going to play with your food?" asked a kind voice from across the room. "Or, are you going to eat?"
Toshiro gave a quick glance across the room before starring into his bowl again. "I will eat when I am ready, Captain Komamura." He cleared his throat. "Lady Captain..." Toshiro let the chopsticks rest along against the side of the bowl as he turned around to face the lady Captain. "May I ask a question...Ryo?" The lady Captain nodded. "What happened to you...in Las Noches?"

"Three years later, and your curiosity has finally gotten the better of you?" asked Ryo, pushing her own bowl of food from in front of her. She leaned over the table, looking at Toshiro. "Why?"
"Just curious." stated Toshiro. "Never mind the time its taken to ask. Someone needs to ask, I suppose. I want to know what made such a wonderful compliment to Captain Sajin Komamura so..." Toshiro shook his head. "Not that anymore."
"You're so articulate, Toshiro." Ryo looked at the Captain, his teal eyes focusing on her. "He raped me, Captain. He raped me. And, there was nothing I could do about it."
"He did it to show you he had the power to-"
"No." Ryo shook her head. "What he did...What he does...It has nothing to do with power. Sousuke Aizen cares nothing about power. His intellect will always put him in control. And, therefore in a place of power. No. He did it...He does it...simply for the thrill of breaking another being."

Toshiro shook his head, crossing his arms over his chest. "There's more to him than that."
"Is there?"
"There has to be!" Toshiro turned back to his bowl of ramen and stared at the bowl. "A man like him? There's more than thrill of breaking someone. There has to be. I mean look at Urahara. There's so much more to him than what meets the eye. They're brothers, Ryo."
"And, what does that mean?" questioned Ryo, slamming a hand to the table. "Think about it, Toshiro. What does he want? Why? What is this all for?"
"I don't know."
"Why won't he stop?"
"I don't know!"
"Why can't we stop him?"
"I don't know!"
"Why won't we?"
"I don't know, Ryo!" shouted Toshiro, slamming a fist to the table. "I don't know. If I knew, I would tell you. I am Captain, just like you. And, just like you and the rest, I want to end his game. But, I don't know how. No one knows."

Ryo chuckled. "The man is not complicated. Nothing about this is complicated. This is a story. And, he is the antagonist. He is what he is because we don't understand or care how he perceives the world. We are his enemy because we object to his way of thinking. That's it."
"But-"
"No. No buts. He raped me because he could. He attacks the Soul Society because he can. He rules over hordes of hollows because he can! It's as simple as that, Toshiro. It's that simple! He's more powerful than you or I or most of the Captains. But, mostly...He's unchallenged."
"How do you get that he's unchallenged? What have we been doing for years?"
"Making fools of ourselves!" replied Ryo. "He's sitting on his throne, ruling over his masses, laughing at us."
"Fine." grunted Toshiro. "But, it's crazy for you to think that he's gone unchallenged."
"But, he has." whispered Ryo. "None of us are a match for him. But, Urahara. Urahara could...take his head from his shoulders in the blink of an eye. But, he doesn't. Why?"

Toshiro sighed and shook his head. "That's not how this works. You know that, Captain."
"What I know, Captain...Is that there are people who can end this. But, they choose not to because they want to do things correctly." Ryo looked to Toshiro. "How do you end a war correctly?"
Toshiro rose from his seat and walked over to the lady Captain. He sat beside her, rested a hand to her shoulder. "We want this to be over as badly as you do." He sighed loudly. "What's gotten into you, Captain? you sound like you're siding with him." he whispered.
"Would it be so terrible if I did?" asked Ryo. "Same coin, different side."
Toshiro's hand fell from the lady Captain's shoulder. "I'm going to pretend that I didn't hear that. Any of this. I never asked."
"Toshiro-"
"No!" shouted Toshiro. "What is wrong with you? Did we really leave you in Las Noches, Captain?"
