Ryo smiled, raising a brow at the Captain. "Oh my, Captain. Are you going to tell on me?" Ryo chuckled, tilting her head as she looked away from him. "This isn't new, Toshiro. I haven't been here for quite some time. I haven't been a Captain since that first night." Ryo shook her head.
"Did you..." Toshiro hesistated. "Did you..."
"Did I learn to enjoy...it?" asked Ryo. "No." she answered, shaking her head. "I'll admit...I stopped fighting. But, I didn't enjoy it. I can't look at my son without some amount of anger punching me in the chest."
"Does Sajin know?"
"Hm...It's easier to pretend their isn't an issue than it is to actually address it. So, no, he doesn't know."

Toshiro shook his head, rising from his seat and walking over to his desk. "I can't tell you what to do. Just know that-"
"When I go, we are enemies." interrupted Ryo. "Not allies."
"When?" Toshiro placed a hand on to the top of his desk. "Ryo..." Feeling a hand fall to his blade resting at the side of his desk, Toshiro sighed. "Please..."

Ryo smirked, rising and walked toward the door. "Relax, Captain Hitsugaya." She rested a hand to her blade. "I apologize if this conversation soured our lunch. But, remember, you are the one that brought it up."
"Are you walking away?" questioned Toshiro. "Are you leaving, Ryo? Are you allying with Sousuke Aizen?"
"How could I?" questioned Ryo. "I have a puppy looking after me. I don't have much room to breathe. And, now that you know what everyone else has been ignoring, it will be nearly impossible to leave."

Toshiro glanced over his shoulder, looking as the lady Komamura opened the door and left. He looked to his desk with a sigh. He reached for a pen and blank piece of paper. He wrote a note quickly, folding the paper and sliding it into his haori. Reaching for his zanpakuto, he secured it to his side and walked toward the open door. "I am sorry, Captain. But, I have to." Toshiro stepped outside his office, sliding the door closed behind him.

"Call to the Captains": Toshiro draped his haori across the back of his chair before taking his seat. He frowned as he looked to Hyroninmaru leaning against the desk. Closing his eyes, he inhaled deeply to calm himself. "I wonder what it is..." he whispered. Toshiro turned an ear to the window where he could hear the words of two in his division."Have you heard? A nurse overheard someone telling Captain Ukitake that Aizen is dead. Vale Tervaden, too. Do you think it's true?" "No way!" "It can't be true. I mean, it's Sousuke Aizen, right?" Toshiro's eyes narrowed at the news. He rose from his seat and walked over to the door. Sliding the door open, he called to the men, startliing them. "Are you certain that is what you heard?" The man nodded. "I am." Toshiro sighed and turned back into his office."But, it can't be true. Can it?" "There is no man alive who dares to lie to Captain Juushiro Ukitatke. I assure you, if the words spoken to him...They are true." Toshiro closed his eyes once more as he looked to the skies. "So...The monkey finally drowned...""Sir?" "Nothing." Toshiro walked over to his desk and retrieved his zanpakuto and haori. "Return to your posts." he said, exiting his office. "If anyone comes searching for me, I've gone to the First Division."Moved

Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: Deep RenewalEpisode 351 "Filling A Slot": Toshiro sat in his office at his desk, working on what seemed like an unending pile of paperwork and reports. Without a lieutenant, most of the administrative work had fallen on him. Still, like always, he took the majority of the work. It was just something he did. Something he had done since he was a third seat. Something Captain Shiba had always both praised and took advantage of. Even so, Toshiro knew he couldn't go on for long taking all of the work on his own. Not when he needed to be training to return his powers to him. And so that had pushed him to a decision.
Fill the empty slot in his ranks and recruit a right hand. Someone he could trust and rely on to command with authority and reliability when he wasn't there.
He had such a person in mind and as of now he made his way through more work as he waited for the person to arrive.

Korin walked up to the door of the office of belonging to the Captain of the Tenth. He bowed as he announced his arrival. "Captain Hitsugaya. You requested an audience with me?" He waited by the door until the Captain looked away from his work long enough to invite him in. "Thank you, sir." Korin walked toward the desk and stood behind the chairs in front of it. He folded his arms behind his back.
"What was it that you wished to speak with me about, Captain?"

Hitsugaya placed aside some of his stacks of paperwork and files. He nodded to the chairs in front of Kugo. Korin Kugo, the Fourth Seat of Division Seven. When reviewing potential candidates, for promotions, especially to fill captain-level ranks, recommendations for officers outside of the requesting division would often come in. Especially if the candidate was looking to transfer out or was in a division that already had its ranks filled. Korin was one such recommendation. Komamura, when reviewing candidates for his own lieutenant, passed on Kugo in favor of another, but listed Kugo as "high potential to succeed in the divisions mentioned below". At the top of that list was Hitsugaya's division. And so the recommendation landed on his desk.
After reviewing Kugo's record and performance reports in his file, as well as his accomplishments in the Academy, Hitsugaya decided Kugo would be a great fit for his lieutenant. Provided the two of them got along well. Accomplishments were all well and good, but he needed someone he could trust, whom he could build a natural camaraderie with. Captains were important ranks, of course, but a good captain could be made or broken by their lieutenant. If there was no bond between captain and lieutenant, the whole division would fall apart.
"Take a seat, Kugo." Once the man was seated, Hitsugaya continued, folding his hands on his desk. "I'm sure you know already, but Captain Komamura gave you quite the bit of praise after you were reviewed for promotion."

"Quite a bit of praise." admitted Korin. "Enough to pass me over for Eppei Fujiyama." Korin pulled a chair away from the desk and sat down. "But, I am sure that Fujiyama was a far better fit than I for the position. Is that what you wish to speak with me about, Captain Hitsugaya?"
Hitsugaya nodded firmly. "I can understand the disappointment. However, Komamura is of the belief that you would be better suited to being lieutenant of this division instead." He pulled a file out of his drawer and set it in front of him. Written on the tab was Kugo's name and rank. "After reading through this, I happen to agree. On paper anyway. So I called you here to meet you in person. I understand that this may not be the division you were aiming for in terms of promotion, but I agree with Komamura that your skills can be very valuable here."
"Really?" Korin leaned back in his seat, crossing his legs at the knee and placing his hands in his lap. "If I may ask, Captain...Why not promote from within? I am sure that there are better qualified members of the Tenth."

Hitsugaya was surprised by his blatant questioning but respected it at the same time. It was a valid question. One Hitsugaya had thought over extensively. Hitsugaya gave Kugo the same answer he gave himself.
"My officers are highly capable and can hold their own, both on the field and in the office. However, of the officers that would normally be up for promotion, I felt that they were not yet ready to be promoted to the level of lieutenant. Now is not the time to promote officers who need to grow into the position of a lieutenant. We may be free of the hollows' control, but we are not yet finished with dealing with the remainder of Aizen's followers. Also with my own training to focus on, I need someone reliable. Not someone whose shoulder I will have to look over. Someone I can trust to see to it that things get done when I am not here."
When he saw the look in Kugo's eyes as well as the raised eyebrow, Hitsugaya shook his head. "Do not misunderstand me. I do not plan on being an absent leader and leaving you to handle all the affairs. What I need is a partner, not a scapegoat."

Korin smirked with a chuckle. "I would never assume that a Captain of your caliber would abandon his division. Or, seek to use a scapegoat. My apologies," he brought a hand to his chest and bowed his head. "I did not mean to offend. Now, if I may ask another question, have you addressed this with your third seat? They would be the most logical choice for Lieutenant for this division." Korin adjusted his hands in his lap.
"Forgive me, Captain. Disregard my last question, if it's too forward."

"Asking questions does not warrant reprimand. I have no use for officers who don't ask questions," Hitsugaya shook his head. He looked down at the drawer he had pulled Kugo's file out of. In there he kept his third seat's file as well. One he had looked over at least twice as many times as he had Kugo's. "As I stated. The other officers I considered required much more time than I have to give at this time."
He looked back to Kugo. "You on the other hand, have proven in Seventh Division that you are self-sufficient and enough of a problem solver that you can make decisions quickly and without express input from me. You've exercised good judgement and your junior officers have all stated in reviews of you that you are someone they can trust and rely on when issues arise. While I have faith that all of my officers can exercise that judgement regarding themselves, the higher the rank, the more people you are required to oversee. Despite there being only one rank difference between third seat and lieutenant, the difference in the responsibilities of each rank are more than simply going from fourth seat to third."

Korin nodded. Over just a few short days, a number of lower ranked Shinigami had been promoted. Eppei Fujiyama was promoted to Lieutenant of the Seventh. Oda Kikyo, Kazushige Shuga, Unkei Yonezawa and Etsuya Tanimoto had all been promoted to a special division within the Ninth. And, now he was being considered for the position of Lieutenant of the Tenth.
"I understand this very well, Captain." Korin nodded again. "I can assure you, if you intend to make me your Lieutenant, I would do my best. I would lead, as you would, in your absence."

Hitsugaya hummed and nodded confidently. It was a relief to hear him say that. "Then if you want the position, it is yours. Effective as soon as the paperwork is pushed through." He pulled out a short stack of forms kept together by a clip and set then down in front of Kugo and placed a pen on top of the forms.
Korin leaned forward, taking the pen in his hand. "I would be an honor to serve as your Lieutenant, Captain."
"Pleased to have you," Hitsugaya responded, waiting as Kugo finished filling out the forms. Once he was finished, Hitsugaya took them and flipped through them. "Alright. I will submit these straight away. You are free to return to Seventh to prepare for your transfer. Once you've been transferred and you've been settled into your new barracks, I will get you situated into your new office. It's just down the hall, but..." He paused, thinking of Rangiku. He felt a pinch in his chest that he tried to ignore. "Well. I'll have to have it prepared for you. It has gone vacant for... quite some time."

Korin nodded. "There is no need, Captain. I am capable of sorting out the office myself, if that is alright with you." Korin rose to his feet and pushed in his chair. "I will notify my Captain, and begin as quickly as I am allowed."
Turning on his heels, Korin paused. He thought of the division's former Lieutenant. "If I may, sir. If you wish to leave something behind of hers...That would be perfectly acceptable.""I appreciate the sentiment, Kugo." Hitsugaya gave a nod.Korin nodded in return. He moved toward the door, turning to bow before leaving. "Thank you, Captain."END RP "Come Home"
