She nodded slowly, "I understand, but if they are able to out smart Soji-kun's father what makes you think your men are going to be able to catch them?"
Byakuya shot her another look as she sighed heavily.
"Sorry. All my statement seem to be coming out rather wrong today." She stepped toward his desk with her paperwork presented to him. "I think I will just stick to what I came by for." He took the paperwork from her and set it to his desk in front of him, opening the research file on top first. It was where she had kept notes on what she found and exactly where she had found it, the date and any receipts, estimates or written agreements and who in the Event Commit did the transaction. Along with a well written explanation she had gotten from the Academy's Secretary Treasury about the Ukitake Funds.
She stayed silent standing in front of his desk until he spoke to her.

The captain was silent as he looked over her notes and the full report and then spoke up without raising his head. "Whoever's been overseeing the student committee since we reopened the school has been a lazy fool," he growled. His future daughter tried to hide a giggle. He folded his arms and continued. "Recovering the money from the merchants whom have been paid twice or overly well - and have not come forward - is dealt with easily enough. I will write a letter acknowledging the mistake, and if they do not offer a refund or credit, then I will take it further."
"To whom?" she asked. "It's the Academy."
"The student Ayako Ueno and her consorts are within the Academy. They're protected from the worst that could happen for their actions. The merchants and entertainers are from the Rukongai, and they know if their actions are caught by the Gotei, a larger complaint can be filed. Then they will deal with Captain Komamura. He has little patience for greed and thievery of this sort. And neither do other merchants once it has been revealed."
He looked to Makino. "Do you have plans for what to do with the items that you now have a surplus of?"

Makino nodded slowly. "Yes, I have a list of everything they obtained and everything we still need. If we recover the money from the merchants that were paid twice or overly paid and IF we can get the money back the girls took for personal use. It should cover what is still needed for the Fall Festival. If not I will have to take a good chunk out of what Mother gave me."
She pointed at the notes. "The list is in the file there under the log book."
She stood silent again as he pulled the file from under the log book and opened it. He studied the page for a few minutes then looked up at her.
"You have been very thorough with your research on this, and your paperwork is organized and neat. It is easy to understand what is going on. Impressing work, Makino. Worthy of a seated position in a division."
Makino beamed with pride from his compliment, but it only last a second as she informed him of more findings. "The storage room they have everything stored in still needs to be gone through to visually confirm some of the other things. Like decorations, games and the booths, the prizes and the other miscellaneous items that they say they got or have. A lot of that should be there because it's Academy propriety, some of it should be the things they purchased for the Fall Festival. The only problem with that-" She paused, an annoyed look in her eyes. "It's locked and Ayako refused to give me the key when I asked her for it at lunch time. It makes me wonder if there is anything in it." She paused and smiled at Byakuya for a second. "And thank you for that vote of confidence."

Byakuya nodded. “It is a vote well-deserved of,” he stated before falling silent and considering the next prong in the dilemma before his future daughter. “Considering the embezzlement Ueno has undertaken with the others, you are correct in suspecting that other items of business may not be as they appear. Even more so if she won’t give you the key.” He paused. “Madarame and Ayasegawa owe me a favor. This will do. Have them find out which teacher is the advisor for the committee and then ask for their copy of the key.”
He looked down at the books before him. “If it is as they have stated, then you will be in good shape. If it is not the case….” he left his words hanging for a few minutes.
“Also, it is rare that money is recovered when it has been stolen after a certain time frame. You would be better off finding ways to sell the surplus of supplies in some way at the festival.” He looked to the list of supplies and nodded to himself. “We can paint the excess lanterns - if they exist. Perhaps for extra credit in other classes. If that is a possibility that you approve of, I can consider it further.”

Makino nodded. "I can talk to Ayasegawa when I get back to the Academy. Kido is my next class and until Yumiko returns off maternity leave he has taken over instructing." She stepped back and sat to the edge of the chair before his desk.
"As for making the money back to cover the Festival and cover the Winter Festival. I had a few ideas for selling things. I was thinking of having like an Art Auction. We have a lot of fine artists at the Academy. Of course their items must be donated for the sell because we will not make any money if they are not. I was thinking of talking to a friends of mine and Soji-kun, Riku Asuhara and seeing if he wanted to head it up, he has a really good eye for fine quality. We still have a couple of weeks to gather things and anything would work to donate as long as it will sell." She smiled. "And my mother has been complaining about cleaning out the spare room she has filled with paintings, pottery, drawings and anything else she could find to do with her hands."

Byakuya tapped a hand along his desk at the mention of Saya selling her works. It would probably defeat the purpose of the event if he were to make an appearance for the best of her pieces. She would be more than likely to give them to him and not allow him to pay for them. It wouldn’t matter if he could afford them or not. It would be the principal of the matter.
But there were always ways around chivalry or the the genteel aspect of nobility if desired.
“Perhaps, if you can acquire Asuhara’s cooperation, he could arrange and take control of a silent auction at the festival for the best pieces. Such will drive up the prices for the items as well as draw a large crowd. That would acquiring enough items to sell first though. You need a starting point to bring the customers in.”
This would be one such idea that would allow him to acquire some of his lady’s art for himself without her gifting it to him.

"I like that idea. Riku has an excellent eye for things. A private auction for what he deems best of the best and if I can find another that will not sell cheaper then the set price they can run the publicly auction. The private auction will draw more of the nobles. They will know it is fine quality items we have at hand.
She paused in thought for a moment. "If I can publicize this correctly and in a timely manner I think we could end up with a very nice turn out."
"If it is in your hands, I have no doubt things will be carried out to the best possible outcome." Makino smiled brightly as she looked to the Captain before her. "I wish another Captain would see my potential like you could." She stood from her seat as Byakuya gathered her files and paperwork and handed them to her.“You have made an impression on him, Makino. Wait, be patient, and he will see.” Makino sighed, "yeah, one of a parrot it seems." She took her things and bowed to the Captain, her soon to be father. "Thank you for your help in this. I will talk to Ayase as soon as I get to class and Riku if time permits, after classes. I am sure Riku will be thrilled to do this for us. He is such a nerd for trinkets and collectables. OH!" The heel of her hand hit her forehead. "I have to get with Allura to. She is helping me set all this up." She looked to Byakuya again and giggled softly. "A lot to do today before it ends." She bowed once more. Thank you, and have a good rest of the day." "You as well, Makino." Byakuya told her as he then went back to his own paperwork. She turned walking toward the door sliding it open as her escort was standing just on the other side. She giggled softly as her head shook lightly. She looked to Byakuya as he lifted his pen from the well, gesturing with a nod for her to proceed. With a smile across her lips as she turned and stepped out the door to leave the man to his work as she slid the door closed behind her.~END RP~ "Former Captain":

Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: The ChaosEpisode 556 "Backfire": Byakuya was always among the first to awaken in Sixth Division, among the first to arrive if he had spent the past evening at his estate. But today, he arrived earlier still. Dew glittered on the grasses and stillness filled the air of a quiet morning. Clouds were still painted golden from the fading dawn. He entered from the back of his garden, unseen by any sentries in the front, and discarded his scarf by the shrine on the opposite side of his office. It was not the first time he had arrived this way. Usually it meant swift action for his division when true morning greeted them. Today, he lingered in the doorway by the shrine, looking to a calligraphy scroll to its side. His grandfather’s hand. The words set upon them were one of the many ancient codes he’d memorized at his father’s death. A bamboo pipe dropped in the silence as he followed the strokes, considering his responsibilities. He turned around and walked to his desk, waiting for his officers to recognize his arrival.

Renji walked through the halls of Sixth Division with his arms full of case files. It was still early, but not extremely early. Regardless, he knew his captain would be in his office by now. He always was. Renji had gotten used to the not sleeping in late, but he would never be able to wake as early as Captain Kuchiki did. And the one week that he did was arguably his worst week on the job. The captain had promptly told him to return to his normal sleep schedule, which he gladly did.
He walked up to the captain's door and knocked. When he heard the captain tell him to enter, he pushed the door open and walked in. "Captain Kuchiki, good morning," he bowed to the captain.

Captain Kuchiki nodded to him. He waited a moment and then issued his orders for the morning. "After you are done putting those files away, find Fifth Seat Nagano. Both of you are to set aside your current work and put together your most concrete findings on the Robin Hood case. Then report with them to this office. Immediately."
His dark eyes narrowed. "Is that understood, Abarai?"

"Uh, yes sir," Renji nodded. He wasn't sure what the captain's tone was about. Then again, sometimes he always had that tone, no matter what. He didn't think too deeply on it. Maybe the captain was as frustrated as the rest of them with the Robin Hood thieves. Renji bowed to Captain Kuchiki and exited his office.
It didn't take too long to find Yorusuke and for them to gather their findings. What was fact and what was speculation and what had been outright debunked. They--admittedly--didn't have much. The Robin Hood clan was not making things easy for them, but they weren't going to give up any time soon. Renji and Yorusuke walked to the captain's office together after about half an hour and Renji knocked on the door once more, ushering the Fifth Seat in once he heard his captain's voice on the other side. He and Yorusuke both bowed to the captain.

Yorusuke straightened up after his bow and cleared his throat as he shifted the four files in his hands, taking a moment to gather his thoughts before stepping forward. His expression was as composed as always, though the slightest hint of frustration lingered behind his eyes. He placed three of the four files on Captain Kuchiki’s desk, neatly aligned, before speaking.
"Captain Kuchiki," Yorusuke began, his tone steady, "these are the reports of the latest robberies, covering the past two weeks. Each incident has followed a similar pattern—high-profile targets, no casualties, and clean escapes. However, the locations and the timing seem deliberately randomized to make tracking difficult." He opened the top file, revealing several maps with marked locations. "We've been able to identify some consistencies in their method, but nothing that directly ties them to a specific group or individual."
He paused for a moment, his brow furrowing slightly as he continued. "There’s been speculation that they might be receiving insider information, given how quickly they move, but we’ve yet to find solid proof of that. And as for their motive, it appears they're targeting corrupt businesses, redistributing wealth and stolen property back to those from whom it was taken. Still, we can’t confirm whether that’s a cover for something else."
Yorusuke glanced at Renji briefly before focusing back on the captain. "Our current leads are limited, sir, but we’re pursuing all possible angles."
He stood back, still holding the one file that involved not just robbery but murder.

Renji, seeing the file Yorusuke was still holding, took the file from him. He opened the folder and looked over its contents. "The Konoba case is an outlier, if we've ever seen one. It's the only one out of this batch where the targets were found murdered afterwards. The evidence for this case falls into two buckets. The theft and the murder."
He looked up at his captain unflinchingly and reported the facts from the case. "The theft falls firmly within the Robin Hood MO. Quick, clean, and no witnesses. And I don't mean just with the murders. While the Robin Hood cases--the ones we've been able to tie back to them anyway--vary slightly in MO, they all share a few key similarities. Indications that there are more than just one or two thieves in the group at the moment. Same as it has been for centuries. However, also with the Konoba case, we have to rule out any collaboration between the murders and robberies because we have seen an MO like this for centuries before. It has only been here recently that both murder and theft have crossed paths this closely. There have been cases of some of the previous Robin Hood targets ending up dead, as well as cases where murder victims end up being stolen from post-humously. However, the instances of this are inconsistent at best. The only thing these two MOs have in common is they both target the lowlifes of the Seireitei."
Renji flipped through the reports in the file. "Other notable evidence is that the time of death showed that the victims were killed very early morning, and the reports we have on the robberies show those took place in early evening. Several hours--sometimes even a dozen--in between the two crimes. Due to this, I think we would be getting in over our heads trying to connect the murders and the robberies. If they are connected, then investigating the robberies will lead us to the murders, and if not, then they won't. The more we split our attention, the less reliable evidence we'll find. That's my official statement on that regard."

As the officers started their report, Byakuya listened on in silence, his eyes scanning key moments set out before him before returning his focus back to the conclusions they set before him, not what was put on paper. Despite the frustration inherent in the case, his fifth seat dismissed anything he couldn’t put a pattern to and kept his findings to the clearest, bare facts. He was succinct and logical. Although he omitted one key element of their search.
He noted the exchange between the two but kept his silence as his lieutenant went on.
Eyes like sharpened flint, he listened to yet another discussion of the Konoba case, his irritation mounting as he, once again, realized how much could have been handled differently in regards to the infamous Robin Hood thieves if they had kept to their usual annoying thievery instead of provoking the Masanobus. Instead they dared question the order his family had been guarding for centuries. They were a waste of time, and their actions irked him in ways he hadn’t confronted since his first duel with the substitute. But unlike Kurosaki, these fools had no right disrupting the careful balance of his life. They would not escape a severe penalty for their insolence.
And he would bury the Konoba case with their own noose!
“You’ve done well with such a complex case, Officer Nagano, Abarai.” Captain Kuchiki rose from his desk, his face unreadable. “The chaos from these thieves are our priority, not the murder that occurred afterwards. Following those leads would only let these hoodlums continue. If they will not stop even as we investigate their lifestyle, they will face the penalty for their pride.”
He looked to his fifth seat. “What of the findings from Officer Ayumu from Ninth Division? She usually has sharper intel with her expertise, even if it is a whisper.”

Yorusuke stood a little straighter, his expression neutral but his mind quickly aligning his response. "Sir, I haven’t been in contact with Third Seat Ayumu regarding this case," he began, his tone measured. "Last night was the first time I’d seen her in days, and since she was placed on a leave of absence, she’s stopped investigating entirely. She hasn’t contributed to the case since stepping back, and as far as I know, she hasn’t pursued any new leads."
He paused, carefully considering his next words. "In fact, Renji and I now have more up-to-date information on the Robin Hood group than she does. What we’ve uncovered in the past weeks has gone beyond what she initially gathered. Officer Ayumu’s expertise was valuable in the early stages, but her absence has left us to push the investigation forward on our own."
Yorusuke kept his gaze steady on Captain Kuchiki, knowing how much weight his captain placed on reliable information. "At this point, we have no additional intel from her to follow, and I don’t believe she’s pursuing the matter further during her leave."
