Jumping up in the window a large black cat looked at the Captain, then turned looking out at his lieutenant while she trained the squad. The cat looked back to the Captain then started to clean itself.
"She has grown so much over the past few years. It's good to see she is finally moving over everything."
The Captain hummed nodding his head slowly as he watched his young lieutenant with the squad.
Pausing from cleaning itself, its paw at its ear, the cat looked to the Captain again. "Kyoraku is still the same I see."

Shinji made a grimace. “That’s the understatement of the year,” he growled. He looked down at Hinamori with the cat. “The Ise warrior is still with him, too, even if he all but ignores her. I don’t know how long that will last.”
The cat nodded its head slowly. "Like any woman in love with a man. She will stay with him until the end. Not to mention." the cat leap to the Captain's head and sat down, lowering its face into his face.
"She is his loyal lieutenant. She will go nowhere without his orders and then that might be a fight as well if he tells her to go away."
Shinji's eyes rolled. "If only the fights that came from it would result in him snapping out of it." He looked up to the cat. "Would things be better if Ukitake remained and we were still in the prison? Or would we still be stuck in some sort of quagmire due to your brother-in-law?" He winced as the cat bat at his nose. "Hey, it's better than being the captain that should have drowned him from the start."

The cat jumped down from the captain's head to the floor in his office. As it did it bumped the rack that held the Captain's haori. It fell to the floor over the top of the cat, but when the Captain turned to look Yoruichi was standing before him pulling the haori on to her person.
"The only way you will get him out of this slump is to get Ukitake back from Sousuke." Yoruichi shrugged. "That is if he is still alive. It has been seven years and with his illness and no one to tend to it--"
She stopped short, turned and sat to the edge of the table where his feet were propped leaning back on her hands. "And we don't know the status of Kita either so without those things it is a hard call to make on any of them. Healthwise or otherwise."

Shinji shook his head. “After the display of Matsumoto’s death, even a pessimist like me thinks that Ukitake could be alive, and with Kita and Yumiko there, as well as your man, someone is there to take care of his illness…. if they care.”
He looked back outside. “That first rescue mission went so well. Even with Shunsui being unresponsive, I imagine we would need daredevils for each member…” he paused and kicked a book to the ground as he sat up. “And ones that aren’t captains. Baby captain and his lieutenant will start complaining if they have to take care of more than three divisions, though I hear Soi Fong woke up.” He looked to Yoruichi for confirmation.

Yoruichi nodded slowly, "Yes but she still has a long road ahead of her. She was in that coma for a very long time." Her head than started to shake. "I don't know if she will be capable of the position of Captain even after a full recovery. That Ayakashi did a real number on her."
She sighed lifting from her seated position on the table walking to the window, she leaned against the frame, her arms crossed over her stomach. "So many lives destroyed because of that Bastard and still we can do nothing. Here we thought we held an 'Ace in the Hole' with Kita being the vessel of the Seraph, but Aizen managed to rip that away as well."
She let her head lower as she looked to the ground outside. "Where does it all end?"

Shinji’s eyes glittered strangely. “You know that answer, Queen Cat. With our death, if we let it,” the Visored replied. He followed his lieutenant’s path as she stepped in front of a curious healer, taking her hands and raising them to the correct position for the kido spell. “Then again, some say people in death have nothing better to do than haunt those they care for - sometimes becoming monsters themselves.”

Yoruichi chuckled lightly, "If I haunt anyone it will be Aizen's ass for all the shit he has put us through." Pushing off the window frame she walked toward Shinji. Her hand resting to his shoulder.
"We will get them back. All of them. Alive, and we will win this war one day putting an end to Aizen once and for all. We have to believe that. We have to."

Squinting eyes at her, Shinji waved her hand off his shoulder. “Yeah, yeah, I get that, but I’m not one for big speeches or hope stuff. That’s Juu-” He fell silent, and his eyes hardened. Flinging a kido at a vase nearby, shattering it, he leaned against the windowsill again. “I just hate waiting and actually having something to protect, that kind of shit, you know. I'm more the action and get-things-done kind of guy."
He looked to his division below and sighed. "Really, why in the hell did that old firecracker make me a captain? He knew I think people are supposed to take care of themselves and I hate being caught looking after them."
He sighed again, scratching the bridge of his nose. "Times like this are the dumps."

Yoruichi smirked, "You could have always said no. There is that option as well. You did not have to take his offer." She looked at him over her shoulder, her smirk still in place. "Shinji, I think your bark is getting worse than your bite in your aging years."
She leaped to his desk as a wordless Kido came at her. "And you're getting slow too."

Shinji growled and bared his shark smile. "I'll show you slow, cocky Queen Cat, if you dare do that-"
He halted as she swiped at his nose. And made a face. Folding his arms, he turned away, vanished and appeared right in front of her, upside down on the ceiling. "Save that energy for our enemies and go back to what you're good for, Kitty Cat, or I really will waste my energy playing with you~"

Yoruichi chuckled a wild smile appearing on her face. Her hands were on her hips as she lifted a hand and pinched Shinji's nose playfully then patted him lightly on the cheek. "Sorry sweety you're a few centuries late to make an offer like that. Kisuke might get jealous and revoke your Vizard rights." Before his eyes Yoruichi changed back into a cat the haori covering the small body she now possessed. Slinking out from under it she turned looking at Shinji once more then leap to the open window. "Maybe I will take you up on that offer if we don't recuse them. A woman has needs too." Shinji's eyes widened as she chuckled softly and disappeared from his office.

"Dawning Days" continued: There was something missing. With the cleanup in his courtyard. Something important. Shinji’s eyes narrowed and he vaulted off the bench he had been lounging on. Eyes narrowed flashes of amber in his irritation, he searched out a fitting victim. And seized the back of someone’s jersey. It ripped as he brought that person to eye level. “Shinji!” Hiyori growled. She flung her fist at him, but she was still one of the shortest people he knew. It was easy to dodge her. Or swing her in another direction. “Fuck you! Hentai! Oni! Let me go!” “What’s missing?” he asked. “Wha- What the fuck do you mean?!” He shook her, eyes turning a bit wild. “What IS missing here, Saragaki?” She froze at that look and the mention of her surname. “I need to know.” Hiyori folded her arms. “Let me down and I’ll look around,” she muttered. Her cousin did and turned away from her. Folding his arms across his chest, he glared at the surroundings, fingers tapping along his haori. That was never a good sign. HIyori huffed, blowing her bangs out of her face, and focused on the task at hand. She paused. “Well?” he snapped. “Your trees are gone,” she muttered, her mood failing. “Your damn peach-” She staggered as Shinji swung on her. “Hey, you-” Shinji’s hunched shoulders shook as his second fist slammed into the wall next to her, splitting his knuckles. “ Fucking not enough time,” he hissed. Fade-- END --

"Inevitable Noise":It was nearly time for most divisions to take the noon meal, but at the Fifth Division, the current officers were still directing and pushing the soldiers in the Kido drills on their wide courtyard. One half was geared towards offense and one half were set up in various positions of defense. A few stomachs grumbled but after a month, most had learned to keep from complaining. Pushing hunger back was part of the new system the Demon captain had initiated after all. And after his cool down at the jail and with the transfer of Suzume Shizuka as his lieutenant, he was more likely than ever to inflict troublesome punishments for ‘insubordination’ or ‘weakness’. Something clattered from the captain’s office and someone looked behind them, only for another member to ‘eliminate’ them with a burst of Kido. It was easier to avoid the inevitable storm outside as well. Because if the captain and his former Fifth Seat were getting along, they were both doing poor signs of showing it. And that was another reason to watch out. “If I hear you mention those damned notes again, I’m sending you right back to that damned cockeyed three-kneed shop keep with my boot to your scrawny ass!” the captain hollered over the sudden hush from a finished set of drills.

Suzume waited for the partners to switch positions and resume the drills below before speaking up. Setting a cup that had fallen in his rage back on the desk, she jabbed a finger at the reports on his desk. “If you’re going to be a bull-headed clown of a captain, we won’t have a full report ready for the commander in time,” she growled back. She pointed to the window. “Officers’ games or not. We need Momo’s notes – especially since you have never gotten off your lazy bum and made a record yourself.”
“I don’t need them. It’s all in my head.” Shinji leaned forwards and glared into the dark, stubborn gaze before him. “If you can’t remember enough, and don’t have it ready, Officer Shizuka, then you’re not qualified to be wearing that badge, now are you?” he seethed.
Suzume huffed. She was not backing down from the position, not after Urahara had asked her to do honor to her best friend by taking over the position of lieutenant. Even with present Demon captain setting her up to fail day after day, week after week, she wasn’t going to quit. He was not an Ayakashi and this was her home. She would get him to see sense.
“Cat got your tongue?” he sneered.
Suzume sat on the edge of the desk. “Sorry, sir,” she retorted. “I wasn’t paying attention to your complaint. I was too busy looking for the point of infection in the angry dog before me. Do you think he’s rabid?” she continued, making an inquiry.
"Should he visit 12th division for treatment?"

Shinji’s eyes whirled as his irritation at the current situation spiraled further at the so-called innocent question she had put to him. As if that would deflect him from the matter at hand. “If I'm rabid,” he snapped, “it’s nothing that freak of a scientist can fix, and it will go away naturally when a certain annoying little bird gets out of my space.”
When he found what that loony shopkeeper had told her, he was going to wring his neck and tear that idiotic hat of his to shreds. This damned sparrow had been around him too long for his usual tricks of temper to work. In fact, it only made her leap to the challenge. And not trip. And not read books.
And damned if her paperwork was still flawless.
“Did you hear me that time?” he snapped.
She was a good candidate, but he was never going to accept it. She could support someone else. Not him and this cursed division that had already claimed her best friend. The image of a certain head formed in his mind, and he slammed his hand on the table.
“Answer me! Or are you deaf as well as stupid, clumsy, and weak?!”
