5th Division, Kidou Corps / Kidou Tactics & Control- The captain of the 5th Division is also captain of the Kidou Corps; one of Soul Society's two other military fractions except for the Gotei 13. Members of the 5th are in general kidou experts, and are often stationed together with 11th Division members, 2nd Division assassins as well as 4th Division healers to form an all-around military group. They are also responsible for all sealing and magical workings inside Soul Society, as well as recording and storing any new kidou. Members of the Kidou Corps are handpicked from the best kidou-users of the shinigami, and undergo additional training.

"Returned Items from Central":Shinji leaned his head on his desk, crossing his eyes on the box before him. "Ya know, my boredom doesn't go away just because I get a bunch of dispelled toys." He rolled his head to his left. "I didn't even know what ya used 'em for." He let out a loud sigh, pulling out a nearly invisible key from the bunch. "Now if Central said why they don't need 'em anymore...that would help." END "Missing Object":

"Handling the Past to Accelerate in the Present":Shinji Hirako slumped in his desk as he perused the outside, shrewd eyes moving this way and that as he took apart each little detail he had learned both at the captain's meeting and after. Yumiko's unique abilities could be a pain in the ass, but they presented an intriguing challenge. Then there was the traitor in the midst - or at least one. Chewing on his gum, Shinji rolled his head to the side. And finally, there was his former subordinate's keen interest in - or as was the case on his hands - never finishing breaking people. A meek knock made his grin twist. "Come in lieutenant and close the door," he motioned with a wave of his hand.

Shinji spun around. "Yes, I did, Hina-chan." His hard grin softened as she seemed to relax at the new nickname. It was nothing like anyone else had given her, which had been her captain's point.
He folded his hands. "No doubt you're wondering why I have been grilling the division but not even hinting at what happened at the captains' meeting." She shook her head. "Well, whether or not thats' the case, it's time for me ta spill. We're being assigned to Karakura Town to back up Kisuke Urahara in defense of the town and a few crazy rescue missions."

Hinamori begins thinking back about all the things that she has heard and all that Aizen has put her through directly as she stands there facing her Captain. She ends her though as she asks Hirako, "Is Aizen involved?"

"Yes, he is," Shinji answered bluntly. "The bastard has finally shown his face - more like returned to his old actions and deceptions. He has kidnapped three people from Karakura Town and has stolen away a ward of Central right from under our noses. He'll show his face and gloat at us soon enough." He fell silent, watching his lieutenant's reactions.

Momo looked up sharply at Shinji and then down at the floor. "I have heard about him coming and taking Yumiko. The nerve of that man; and now he has kidnapped people form Karakura Town as well?"
Momo could feel the anger and pain building up with in her. She fought back the feelings and tried as best she could to maintain composure as she thought about what they may have to face if she decided to go to the world of the living with the rest of the chosen group.

Shinji nodded grimly, listening to the pain and anger in her voice, as his lieutenant succeeded in maintaining her appearance of calm.
"He's probably not done dealing damage just for kicks," the usually snarky captain continued quietly, voice near mellow. "Then he will get serious and try to destroy us, kill those he knows he can't control and then start breaking in any survivors." His eyes narrowed slowly, letting her absorb that nasty bit.
"Do you want to go? Or would you prefer if I left you in charge of the thirteenth division in Ukitake's stead?"

"Captain, I am torn here. I want to go but I just don't think I can handle all of this," Momo said hesitantly. "I think would rather stay and look after things here if that is okay?"
Momo felt disappointed in herself for not being able to stand up and fight with everyone, but she knew that if she did go that she might end up breaking down and causing more of a problem for everyone. She felt sick to her stomach as everything washed over her.

Shunji nodded. "Then stay, Hina-chan. No one will hold it against you," he murmured. She nodded but kept her eyes down on her feet. The captain grimaced. He felt like doing something like ruffling her head, but keeping distance between them was key to their relationship. He grinned.
"Now then," he called out, making her jump, "before I go and you are put in charge of the old man's units, I need you to do some filing. I've gotten so behind." He grabbed her arm and tugged her over to the carefully arranged piles on the side of his office mostly obscured by his desk, pushing her down into his chair. "Of course, I'll help, but then again, ya don't want me to be cranky~ Now where should we start?"
Hinamori laughed.

"Okay Captain, I will help you finish your filling before you head out." Momo gave him a some what sad smile, "And thank you for understanding and not making me join you in the world of the living. I will do my best to make you proud and keep things in order here."
Momo picked up a stack of papers and began to sort them out for filling, still bothered by everything Aizen has done both recently and in the past.

"I'm sure you will, Hina-chan," her captain muttered as she started to get to work, his own mind turning over Aizen's moves and the consequences of his actions. Yeah, life's a bitch, but you've created a lot more than your fair share of misery. It really is time to get rid of you.

"Last Shot: Aftermath" (continued) Shinji pushed out of the rubble that had crushed him despite the kido barriers his division had erected with Kuchiki’s warning. He scowled as rain coated the ground, snuffing some fires but drenching the ground and making it slippery. At the least the cries of the wounded and dying were muted in such dreary circumstances. He sneered and pulled his zanpakuto from the rubble, walking over to the first person, reaching to check their pulse. The first was dead, her throat torn out. He grabbed a cloth from the ground and covered her. Scowl deepening, he moved on, pulling the second of his division out of rubble at the faint sound of his heartbeat. He laid him out in the rain to wake up. The third member had a busted up leg and was under too much shock to do much of anything. He slapped her across the face. “Wake up and smell the horror, sweetie. Your leg may be busted, your friends blown to pieces, but there are tougher ones to save. Grieve on your own time.” Her face paled further before the slap seemed to do her some good. She limped up, taking his hand for help out of the sunken building. Shinji kicked the next one still alive. Keeping them moving was his problem. Backlash needed to come later with all the death around them. Fade

"Shadow on the Land":Shinji tapped his fingers, watching the drills going on outside with his lieutenant Hinamori leading them. It was a combination of feints and kido. Defensive tactics to keep his people alive. His eyes narrowed. If that were possible. Usually he would be down there, antagonizing the meeker of the group, but today, today he was waiting. Seven years had passed since the commander had exchanged his best friend, Ukitake, for the return of the three captains captured during the disastrous rescue attempt. And the Gotei had rarely heard from him since. He’d become a shell. And he wasn’t drunk. There were those still among the Gotei that could deal with that, and those that knew the commander knew that the drink didn’t really work on him as well as others. It had always been a disguise to what laid beneath the hat. No, what held the commander was something else, although anyone who tried to find out what came up empty-handed. It was a mystery that Kurotsuchi and himself had found no longer amusing three years ago. Shinji tossed a peach pit into the trash. “It’s damn frustrating covering for his ass though,” he muttered aloud.
