Ryo looked to the Commander with teary eyes. Sniffling as her hands shook around the still warm mug, Ryo nodded. "I understand that I own my fears, Captain. And, I have not forgotten our teachings. But, what am I to about Sajin? It's been more than a year, and he refuses to hear me."
Rising from her seat, weak kneed, Ryo leaned on the desk. "So, we move on until the night comes. I go to bed in the comfort of his arms. And, wake up to the bitter chill of the morning, alone." A small smile formed on her lips. "I'm not always alone though. Sakuma and your namesake are quite the busy bodies in the morning. There have been many mornings where I wake to them cuddled against me."
The commander chuckled quietly before falling quiet at the question about her husband. "Shall I ask someone to talk to him? I am the one who tested your resolve first, Ryo."
Ryo sighed, running a finger around the rim of the mug. "I don't think that it will work. You've known Sajin much longer than I have. You know you how stubborn the puppy can be. He is sweet, kind, loyal and stubborn to no end." She hiccuped with a chuckle. "He's got his mind made up that I won't get over this. Sometimes I think that the only way to fix this, is to go a few rounds at the training field."

Kyoraku was silent again, tapping his fingers along the table as he considered how to approach this problem. Sighing, he leaned back and lowered his hat, still thinking. He stayed like that for a few minutes. Ryo started sipping her chocolate.
“He may be stubborn,” he finally stated, lifting his hat, “but he’s no fool. If you were able to prove to him the truth - that your strength comes from your family AND your position as a captain - he may re-evaluate his decision. There have been times he has had to make difficult decisions for what he himself needed and there are times he didn’t understand what it was he had given up. Go to the training field. Choose your opponent. And maybe, both of you should be on the rescue mission.”

Ryo shook her head, looking to the Commander. "I don't think I want to fight anymore, Shunsui." She rose from her seat, and walked around to the Commander's side of the desk. Placing a gentle hand on his arm, Ryo lifted his hat and kissed his cheek.
"I think I am through fighting people I shouldn't be fighting in the first place. Thank you, Shunsui. Captain Commander." Ryo pulled her Captain's haori from his desk and turned toward the door. "For as much as you protested being Captain Commander...I know of no man better qualified for the title. Or, more deserving."

The door to the Captain Commander's office slid open, the eyes of the Captain Commander and Ryo fell on his large frame. Sajin entered the room. He huffed, brushing his silver hair from his shoulder.
Walking toward his wife, he reached out and took her haori from her. Opening it, displaying her division's symbol, he draped it over her shoulders. He looked to the Captain Commander, who has risen from his seat. "Thank you, Captain Commander." his voice gentle. He nodded, picking up Ryo and setting her gently to his shoulder. "I will take it from here."

The Captain Commander chuckled and lowered his hat. “Pleased to be of service to a good family circle,” he responded, reaching for his cup of hot chocolate. Lips quirking upwards in recollection of draining it dry. He tipped his hat up again. “Please report back here when the sun has finished rising. We have plans to make. I doubt Kisuke is going to wait much longer - And next time, his son will get in worse trouble.”

"Puppy..." Ryo slid down from Sajin's shoulder. Landing softly to her feet, she turned and patted his side. "Why don't you stay and talk to Shunsui. Please."
Sajin growled lowly, his lips parting enough to bare his fangs. "What is there to talk about? We are fine."
"Until when?" snapped Ryo. "Until I go back to sleep? Then, what? Then we're at odds again?"

Shunsui sighed, shaking his head, as he sat at his desk again. A few moments later, he pushed it back and rose again, looking to the tense couple. It wasn't time for a nap.
“Captain Komamura," he called out, "I need you to take a seat now. That’s an order from your commander.” He looked to Ryo and tipped his hat. “You may stay or leave, but I am sure there are two lovable puppies who want to cuddle with their brave mother.”

Sajin growled, turning toward the Captain Commander as Ryo took her leave. His growling intensified as he stepped toward the Commander. "She shouldn't have come to you."
Picking the chair closes to him, Sajin threw the chair against the wall. "Stay out of this!"

Shunsui raised his eyebrow. “She has every right to come to me, and it was lazy of me to let it get so far.” He sighed as another chair smashed against the wall. “Sajin, control your temper. You are in the presence of your commander - the ONLY one who has the ability to remove a captain from their duties. Eventually, it would have come to me.”

"You should have done it in the first place!" shouted Sajin, his anger getting the better of him. "You should have done your duty as the Captain Commander, instead of telling me she's stronger because of her family."
Taking a step closer toward the Commander, Sajin's growling grew louder. "You did this to her."

Shunsui lowered his hat with another sigh. “Of all the places for a brawl,” he murmured. He ducked as Sajin swung at him, golden eyes whirling. He set a hand on one of his swords. “Really, now, it’s a crime to attack the commander, puppy. Don’t you think we should talk this one out?”
“YOU DID THIS!” Sajin roared, throwing another fist.
It collided with a wordless Danku wall.
“You’re really scared, aren’t you, kid?” the commander whispered from behind his barrier. He lowered his hat again. “That is going to make this difficult.”

Sajin pounded on the barrier in anger, growling and baring his fangs. "You did this to her! You didn't listen to me. I knew something terrible would happen. This is your fault!"
Shunpoing forward against the barrier, Sajin pushed the Commander against the wall. "Do your damn job, and remove her as captain! Please!"

“Don’t go and tell me how to do this mess I’ve been trained for,” Kyoraku murmured, “the details will give you a headache. Besides, that really isn’t what needs to happen here.” The giant captain’s anger faltered and Shunsui acted, raising his hand up and between the eyes.
Sajin landed in a heap by the door. Shunsui straightened his kimono
“Now that you’re no longer in my face growling like some mutt, I need you to listen to me. I cannot dismiss your-”
He ducked yet again as the wolf’s anger manifested again.
He clicked his tongue. “Will you let me finish? It’s tiring to dodge such dangerous fists.”

Sajin stopped for a moment, his ears catching the faint cries of his wife on the other side of the door. Slamming a fist into the floor and shattering the wooden planks, Sajin howled. "Speak!"
The wolf's body shook with rage as he waited for the Commander to speak. "Speak!"

Shunsui lowered his hat, evading the furious gaze of the captain for a moment. He lifted it again. “Do you want a strong wife to care for you pups? Or an obedient shadow for your gardens, Sajin?” he asked. The wolf didn’t answer, possibly confused. Good. Shunsui continued.
“Yes, the children need their mother, but they need the mother they stared up at when they came into this world - the brave woman of fire. They need her light and hope as well as her gentle hand. If you take her Captain’s position, will Ryo still be the same woman? Would it be a change she would be happy with?”
He paused, letting his words sink in.
“Or will you lose her even if she has escaped the dangers of the battlefield?”
