Sajin growled lowly. "Don't..." Pounding another fist into the floor Sajin looked to the Commander with narrowed eyes. "I don't need your riddles. I won't lose her. She is safer at home. With our children." Sajin huffed, his growling growing louder. "Just...just make her step down! Do your job!"
Sajin shunpo'd toward the Commander, grabbing his by his haori and slamming him into the wall. "Please...I am begging you..."

Oh dear…. Shunsui muttered to himself. This is getting out of hand, but then again, now that I am wearing this cloak, I can’t really run from the drama, can I?
As Sajin released him, arms shaking, amber eyes close to tears, the commander sighed yet again. He really didn’t have enough preparation for this kind of counseling. And for a moment, he pondered sending for his old friend. Surely, he would find a way out of this.
Taking another breath, the commander started to speak again.
“Sajin, friend,” he coaxed, “I am not asking you if Ryo will be safer there. I am asking if she would be happy there. And will she have the same strength when the flock she protects is cut down to three?”

"That won't happen." Sajin fell to his knees. "I am trying to keep her out of harms way. You keep trying to justify why she should stay." The teary eye wolf looked to the Commander. "If we were talking about Nanao, what would you do?" He slammed a fist into what was now a hole in the floor. "You would keep her safe."
Wiping his face free of fallen tears, Sajin rose to his feet. He looked down at the Commander. "She is miserable. Terrified. And, as you say, a shadow of the brave woman she once was. Ryo will never again be the same because of the Ayakashi. Please. I just want to keep her safe."

A gentle smile rose on the commander’s face. He finally knew what to say to the harried captain, husband, and father. All because of one word, one name. “No, Sajin, I would not do the same to Nanao.” Pushing his kimono back, Shunsui walked over the breaking man. “I tried to tell that hard, crazy, beautiful woman farewell when the Soul King called me to this duty after Yama-jii’s death. But she refused to let me, going so far to learn kido she wouldn’t handle beforehand and standing up to that false Quincy King. I decided to never let my status stand in her way again.”
He set a hand on Sajin’s shoulder. “Ryo will recover, but she can’t do it alone. I am - and always will be - Nanao’s captain. You are always Ryo’s husband. If you would find another way to heal her wounds - beyond hiding her away - that which she loathes most of all - her flame will become bright again. No matter how cliched that sounds, it’s the truth. Right now, she’s clinging to her children. But her husband wants her to deny the trials she’s overcome, the tears she’s shed. Even if you want to do it because you love her, to Ryo, it is like saying she failed.”
The commander rose again. “She did not fail. She struck the first blow against that monster, a blow that Captain Hitsugaya took in account. Her pain led to his near success. Don’t take that away from her.”
He turned to the balcony.
“She wants to stay with you, and if she comes to me again and asks to step down, I will not deny her; but the Gotei will be losing a precious force against this grim time. I pray that it does not come to that. You’re together because of everything you both are, the whole garden in the courtyard of your heart.” He closed his eyes. “Not the apple tree or one late, glistening sakura blossom.”

As Ryo reentered the office, eyes and face red from crying, she looked up to her husband. The towering beast hung his head in shame. She clung to her haori as she turned to the Commander. "Then don't deny me." Raising a hand, she silenced Sajin as he growled in protest.
"I am stepping down as Captain, effective immediately." Ryo cleared her throat, trying to fight back her tears. "Lieutenant Abarai is your best canidate. But, his loyalty to Captain Kuchiki will keep him at his Captain's side. Lieutenant Shuuhei isn't confident enough with his own power, so you can not promote from within the division."
Ryo wiped away her face, shaking her head as the tears fell. "I will stay until I have a replacement for you." Turning and walking over to Sajin, she placed her haori in his hand. She said nothing to him as she left the office.

Sajin growled, taking the haori in both hands and shredding it. He looked down at the Commander, whimpering. Shame washed over him as he fell to his knees.
"What now?"

Shunsui set his hand on the wolf’s shoulder again. “You discuss this with your wife, captain. Properly as you should have after the incident when you started drifting apart. Neither of you can go at this alone. You’ve tied yourselves too closely to each other. So I hope somewhere in my words of extravagant advice you find an answer that leads to more happiness. Mediocrity is not the solution here.” He squeezed the giant’s shoulder and then walked over to his balcony again. “Dismissed. And both of you are given a leave of absence. Two weeks. I will ponder the limited candidates I have at hand IF Ryo and you make the same decision AFTER facing the problems head on.” Sajin didn't respond, only stood, head still bowed as he went after his wife.

"A Test Run": (continued) Shunsui looked up from the paperwork at his desk as the noble captain entered his office. “I will be right with you, Captain,” he stated. “I lost track of time and would like to finish this.” Kuchiki nodded and walked over to a chair to sit. Though Kyoraku doubted he was fooled by his excuse. With no sign of his pink kimono in the room, he meant business. The Captain Commander set his quill down. And closed his eyes. Setting his hand on Katen, he stood. “Shall we get started? We have a lot of ground to cover today and these ladies are impatient to see how far they can sing.”

"They're not the only one," a gravelly voice called out. Shinji waved from his place on the ceiling, shark grin widening as the noble rolled his eyes. "Come on, Byakuya-chan," he quipped, "do we really need manners when we're about to bring the house down on each other?" When the noble stayed quiet, he spun off and fixed his tie. "As I was saying, if this is what I think it is, I want to see some serious fireworks before we're through."
The commander chuckled. "Aren't you the least bit worried about how perilous this could get, Hirako?"
The Fifth Division Captain shrugged. "Where's the fun in that?"

Nanao pushed her glasses up as she entered, carrying a stylus. "This is not about fun, Captain Hirako. It's about collecting information and finding what needs to be done to defeat Aizen, Tervaden, and their goons."
The Visored captain didn't seem phased by her lecture. Flipping his zanpakuto out to rest on his shoulder, he tilted his head to the side where his zanpakuto wasn't resting. "And where does it say survival means no fun?"
Nanao rolled her eyes and looked to her captain. She didn't speak for a few moments. "Be careful."
Shunsui chuckled, tipping his hat. "Nope, those are my lines. I need your observation and skills with Juu-chan below helping our Hime, but things are bound to get wild once we start. Stay alert."
"I am well aware of the danger involved and I will repeat what I said before." She fixed hold on her materials. "That is no reason for me to stay behind."

Shunsui chuckled and looked to the captains he had chosen for this endeavor. "I hope you're ready. And remember, children's games can get awfully messy when the stakes are desperate or keen enough." He paused, tipping his hat. "You'll need to stay on your toes to survive this scuffle."
The noble captain nodded, eyes like stone, immovable. And on the other side, the Visored saluted him, naked blade still laying across his shoulder.
The Captain Commander opened the passageway below and walked forward. "Let's go play hide and seek then."

"Evaluating":The slow steps of the Captain Commander echoed down the hall as Shunsui contemplated the results of the first warmup session he had arranged though the captains, even arrogant Hirako, probably found it a bit more arduous. A twinkle in his eye, he nodded to himself. He rubbed his sore shoulder. Even though he had suffered bleeding cuts to his chest and back, which had been treated by Nanao, the pain to his shoulder was lingering longer. Probably due to someone's constant ambushes. Katen Kyokotsu huffed at him from his hip. His smile grew, assuring the ladies that it wouldn't slow him down. He wasn't that old yet. "Good, or we'll dump you," the elder of two warned in his mind. "Noted, lovely lady," the commander murmured in return. As he entered the office though and Juushiro stood from a chair, his mood sobered. He closed the door behind him. "What was the damage this time?" he asked. "Worse than we feared so soon," his friend murmured, "they kidnapped Kisuke." Shunsui raised an eyebrow, waiting for the punch line, before sighing and making his way to his desk. Pulling the chair up, he steepled his hands. "Tell me," he said.

Post by Captain Juushiro Ukitake on Oct 23, 2015 14:35:37 GMT -6
Juushiro went on to explain what he had gathered from the evidence left behind at the shop and what the boy captain could tell them, from Kita and Ichimaru’s fight and separate disappearances, to Vale’s casual assault on Tsukiro to the full battle between Kisuke, Vale, and the two Ayakashi.
“Tessai concluded that Kisuke nearly dragged Teruo to his death with his Bankai before someone broke his concentration. I suspect that it was Vale and Teruo was in his death trap.”
“For what the bastard did to his son, I would wager that you are correct,” the commander murmured.
“Yumiko and the kids had to have been taken sometime during the battle,” Juushiro continued. “Tessai found Yoruichi knocked out in her cat form. She’s healing under Isshin’s watchful eyes while Tessai makes repairs to the shop.”
Shunsui lifted the cup of sake he had poured. “And neither Ichimaru NOR Kita returned from the separate endeavors.” He drowned the cup. “This is sooner, much sooner, than we had anticipated,” his lips quirked up in a lukewarm smile, “but none of it is your fault, old friend. I am the one who commanded you to return home for a checkup, and it was necessary. You’d barely left that shop or eaten well for months.”
“Still,” his friend murmured, setting his head in his hands. , “if I had been there, they might not have gotten away with taking as many. I should at least have been able to get the kids or Yumiko out.”
“You’re saying that as if they wouldn’t have been prepared for it and as if Tervaden isn’t selfishness enough to claim something he wants.” Shunsui poured himself another cup. “Not to mention that if Sojiro was the target to gain the parents’ obedience then Kenji wouldn’t let his surrogate brother get stuck there on his watch a second time without a fight. Vale probably had to drag him along.”
Juushiro managed a small smile. “I can see that. Kenji never let Soji out of his sight.” His smile fell as his worry swamped him again. “Sojiro is still so young and Yumiko had just started to take the first steps out of her depression. Any harm to those two could leave a lasting scar we can’t heal. I just wish-”
“If I had a coin for every time you specifically have hoped you could protect someone, I would either be drunk every hour of the day and night or turned into a woman by now,” the commander murmured. He stood and poured a new saucer of sake, walking over to his friend. “Drink.”
“Shunsui…”
“Sometimes, spirits are a good thing, and right now, I don’t want all your emotions putting you on bedrest.” The dark eyes softened. “I know it’s hard to deal with it all, but you’re not so old that you will stop in the middle of something.”
Juushiro closed his eyes with a soft smile. “I suppose you’re right.” He took the saucer and looked into the white liquid. His released another sigh. “Even if it hurts, it's true. I am not ready to give the fight to others. I am not done with what I want to accomplish.” He took a sip of the burning liquid, shedding the weary cloak from his shoulders.

Shunsui returned to his chair. “And now, it’s our turn,” he murmured, folding his arms and tipping his hat downwards, leaning back in his chair. He fell silent for a few minutes, tapping his fingers along his arms and then sat up again, adjusting his hat. “First thing to think about. What’s the panic like down there?”
Juushiro chuckled. “I managed to convince Vacanze to stay put temporarily by mentioning that if Las Noches is on the move again, they might return to finish off the Substitute, who is still without his zanpakuto. And Kurosaki won’t let Karin go anywhere unless he’s on the same mission. She agreed to watch over things.” He looked to the balcony. “Kurosaki mentioned something about talking to Ishida-san, too.”
“It would be interesting if he were on any rescue attempt, but that might reveal a trump card they might not know we have.” When Juushiro blinked in confusion, Shunsui continued. “Vale’s mind was wiped when the angel saved Soul Society. And so far, they’ve kind of kept to themselves. Even if Aizen may have been alerted to Ishida after Teruo was nearly destroyed, there’s a difference between a plausible pawn and a definite threat when strategizing.”

"A plausible pawn?" Satoshi's voice questioned from the door way of the First Division office. "You speak as if you hardly know the man. Look at what you know of what he has done." The sensei hobbled into the office, stopping briefly to lean on his crutch.
"He created the Espada, a class of hollow we believed to the strongest of them all. Yet, in his absence, his desire to simply obtain led to the discovery of the class of hollow known as Ayakashi. These creatures cause even the devil to tremble where he stands, while Sousuke Aizen can command them."
Satoshi took a small step forward, his eye focused on the Captain Commander and Captain Ukitake. "You speak of a man who is prepared for all eventualities. There is little to nothing that can be done to surprise him."
