"I never leave the important stuff unfinished, Nanao-chan, you know that," he murmured, still grinning. Shunsui stood to his full height, setting a hand on her shoulder. "I guess we can go back now, provided it is a long stroll."
She pinched the skin of the back of his hand. "Please keep your arms to yourself."
Shunsui obliged her, folding his arms in his kimono sleeves and nodded to a merchant nearby. The merchant greeted him and the commander continued talking. "You know, one of these days, we should test which of you has the harder arm, my dear Nanao-chan or Yoruichi-san."
She scoffed quietly. "I am not your dear anything."
"Not yet," he clarified with a larger smile and winking.

"I am your lieutenant and no more," Nanao stated at once, something she had said many, many times and something her captain had never listened to. She glanced at the stands around them as they started their walk back towards to Seireitei, the better to feign ignorance at the wide grin and dark, beckoning gaze of Shunsui Kyoraku. A look reserved only for her.
She pushed her glasses up, hiding the very slight blush on her cheeks. Why he never gave up she didn't know. But she didn't ask either.

Before too long, Shunsui found an excuse to stop, wandering over to a stand of jewelry and holding up a wooden hair comb died dark blue with a few white crystals set in the center, nothing more. He waited for his lieutenant to stop and follow him. He chuckled and slid it into her hair, on top of the plain tie that held her hair in her characteristic bun, before smoothly turning her to the mirror. "Isn't it perfect?"

Nanao couldn't disagree. The foolish man actually had impeccable taste for what she would want in accessories, provided she would take time to look for them, but she couldn't just accept them. That would give him the wrong impression. And speaking of...
Nanao lifted her hand and pulled out the haircomb, stopping his roving fingertips, as she turned to face him. "What's the occasion, Taichou?" she asked shrewdly.

Shunsui scratched his head, chuckling. "You have a tea ceremony class for the lieutenants in another week, don't you?" he explained easily. "This will go well with your formal kimono you've set aside for that."
Nanao-chan never changed. Well, that wasn't quite right. For a long time, Nanao wouldn't accept his trinkets no matter if he had heard of an occasion. Or if she did, they were back on his desk later. Now, sometimes, if had enough of an excuse to treat her as her superior, he could get her to accept. Slowly, day by day, year by year, he was winning her over more than she would care to admit. In fact, it had been she who had insisted she had enough skill to be head lieutenant and follow him to the first division when he had started to say his farewell.
When his stubborn lady was silent, Shunsui reached into his kimono for the money to purchase the item.

Nanao was quicker, handing the old man a few coins before her captain could finish counting out his change.
"Would you please wrap that?" she requested courteously to the young girl acting as his assistant, handing her the gift. She smiled and nodded. Nanao paused and added some more money to the old man's hands, paying for another piece, a slim, elegant comb of lacquered black wood with a green stone set in the top . "Please wrap each seperately," she continued.

Shunsui returned the pouch to his sleeve with another smile. "Who's getting a present, Nanao-chan?"
"Lieutenant Hinamori," she responded, accepting the small package and setting it under her arms. "Lieutenant Kuchiki mentioned that someone should try to cheer her up." She frowned. "Even if everyone understands why she stayed behind, she feels weak doing it. I want to do my part in easing her burden."
Shunsui sighed and set a hand on her shoulder. This time she didn't push him away. "She's recovering, Nanao-chan," he said softly, and as long as we do our utmost best to keep her from Sousuke's hands again, she will heal." He allowed his hand to caress her shoulder. "She's not alone either. No one's letting her retreat into herself. That's important too."

There goes that roaming hand again, spoiling everything.
Nanao set her items in the crook of her other arm, reaching out with her free hand to seize her lecherous captain's ear and yanking him down. "A fine lot of help you're being walking with me down a street like you're on some kind of date when you should be working on trapping that man and his goons," she stated blandly, still holding him by his ear. She turned away from the stall and let him go, folding her arms. "Socializing time is over. Let's go."

Shunsui rubbed his ear, glad to see her dark mood vanish just as quickly as it had come. "If you insist, my lady," he stated with another wink in her direction. He bowed to her. "Where to, my beautiful taskmaster?" He dodged the punch coming to him but felt his world tip as she whisked her ankle underneath his, causing him to fall backwards. Chuckling, Shunsui dusted himself off and moved to catch up to his one and only lieutenant. - END RP - "Process of Elimination":

"Reaching out to a Friend": (Continued)Nanao led the way into the bustling streets of the eating district. It was late afternoon and in addition to the food vendors, the accessory stands had increased. Carriages were running up and down the lines of people with passengers. Carts of supplies were creaking back and forth with their heavy loads. Children scurried under the taller forms of the adults. Nanao slipped through the crowds with practiced ease, having had to chase her wayward captain in such chaos too many times to count.
"Nearly there," she called over her shoulder.

"Ok," Momo replied, "I can't wait."
The two women continued down the busy street, ready to enjoy an afternoon of relaxation.

Finally the two of them were seated in the shade of the Sakura Leaf, each with a plate of samples to choose what to order. Nanao sighed. "Why does it always have to be so difficult to escape from work when I want to," she grumbled, cleaning her glasses with a corner of her napkin. She set her spectacles back on her face and smiled at Hinamori. "How is your foolish captain doing after taking up Mayuri's dare for him? I hear he's miserable and vowing revenge at the same time."

"Is he? I have been so busy in the office and around the Seireitei that I have not had much free time, so I have not had a chance to go and see him in recovery. Though I do feel bad that I have not been to see him yet, I am sure he will be fine." Momo says with a sad look and a slight smile at the same time. "I wonder which dessert I should order? Have you tried any of these before?"

Nanao chuckled. "Maybe you didn't hear the full story, just that he was sick at the Fourth Division." When Hinamori nodded, Nanao shook her head and raised her glasses. "Captain Hirako was either very foolish or very daring and used his own body as a host for one of Captain Mayuri's experiments. It caused a rabid rebellion among the lower hollows in Las Noches. According to my captain, the foolish Visored couldn't resist after the scientist made some passing remarks on the side effects. Now, he's either groaning in misery or yelling revenge to 'that old coot'" she finished reporting.
She looked the samples and took another small bite of the pear dipped in some kind of cream and spices. "No, all of them are quite different from what I have had before," she commented. "I am stuck on the pound cake or this pear dessert. Neither are too sweet for my tastes."

"I had not heard that he allowed Captain Mayuri to do such a thing. I agree that it was very dumb. I am sure he let his pride get the better of him. It may do him some good to sit there in recovery and think about it for a while before I go see him." Momo chuckled at the thought of her captain stuck in bed due to his own stupidity, "I hope he is alright and has learned his lesson."
Momo sat for a moment and thought about the dessert sample tray before them, "Maybe I will try the pear dessert as well. It does look good and I am not in the mood for something too sweet either."
