Hitsugaya's head was bowed down. He muttered, "It doesn't matter that I failed in killing Kita. I let Rangiku and Izuru get hurt. I was so focused on winning over Aizen that I failed to protect two lieutenants, one of them being my own." He clenched his hands into tight fists, his knuckles turning white. "This is the second time I let her get hurt. Even worse, this time it was by Ichimaru's own hand!"

Kisuke sighed. "I was right there with you. The snake was no more the twenty feet from me and I was so focused on Aizen, Ichimaru was able to attack them right in front of me." Kisuke clenched his fists tightly. "You're not the only one feeling the effects of this."

Hitsugaya shook his head somberly. "It doesn't matter. No matter who is to blame. No matter who carries the biggest burden, the truth we can't deny is that we failed epically. Aizen knew our plan the moment he stepped foot in Karakura. We were doomed from that moment on. Especially when he brought two Espada with him." He looked up to the ceiling. "Maybe if I knew he would have brought a fire-wielding Espada with him, I wouldn't have stepped up... but then... if I let Ichimaru try for the shot, who's to say we wouldn't have failed even more epically?"
He shook the negative thoughts out of his head and turned to Kisuke. "So what now? We nurse our wounds, and then what?" |

Izuru grunted as he opened his eyes. "I swear you two whine more then Ichimaru." He went to push himself up in his bed as Kisuke's hand met his shoulder and he was pushed back down in the bed.
Izuru growled clutching his chest. "Damn that hurts!" He growled under his breath. He turned his head looking at both Kisuke and Toshiro. "You know neither of us blame you for this. You can't control someone else's actions. Especially Ichimaru's. He is going to do what's necessary to stay alive. If we live it or not."
He winced in pain closing his eyes.

Kisuke looked at Izuru and smiled slightly. "It sounds like you have been spending too much time with Kita." He chuckled lightly as a soft sigh escaped him. He adjusted his hat over his eyes.
"She will never trust us again." His heart sank and his stomach tied in knots.

Izuru smiled. "Yes she will. In time and when her memories return she will understand." He lifted his hand and patted Kisuke's hand on his leg. "Right now. She is probable ranting at Ichimaru or Vacanze about what happened. I am sure one of them will talk sense into her over this."

"With what he did to you and Rangiku, I hate to think what he would do to Kita given the chance and the right circumstances. He's more than proven what he's capable of doing to save his own ass with this stunt. If what I've heard about this Vacanze is true, he may be her only ally in Las Noches."

Izuru looked her way and smiled. "Because we bumped heads when Ichimaru attacked us." He rubbed the lump on his forehead still smiling as he reached over taking Rangiku's other hand. "Welcome back to the living."
When she turned her head and returned his smile he looked to Hitsugaya again. "He won't kill her. Just like he won't kill us. I have to say spending that time with Kita, I have learned a lot about Ichimaru." He turned his head looking at Kisuke. "She means a lot to him. Without her Ichimaru would be lost to us. She keeps him grounded. He is her light. I think he finally realized this when we were brought here and Aizen made the deal with him for Kita and the Hougyoku for Rangiku's life. He turned again only to be with her in Las Noches."
"But why we would have--"
Izuru shook his head cutting Kisuke off. "Because she needs him as badly as he needs her. I am afraid coming between them will cost someone their life. Even if her memories return it will be hard to get them apart."

Juushiro nodded. "I think you're right, Kira." He looked to Kisuke. "It would explain why he could only consider taking your offer, old friend. If our plan failed," he waved his hand at the mess before them, "he would do what was necessary to get back to Las Noches." He paused. "In a way, he did warn us, too. He wanted to make sure someone caught Rangiku." He shook his head. "Unfortunately, it was Lieutenant Kira who did that, which Sousuke also perceived as a weakness."

Hitsugaya couldn't find anything to say at that moment. He couldn't say anything against Kita with Kisuke there, and he would not dare say anything about Ichimaru with how much Rangiku felt for him. But he knew that if the cycle was going to end, Kita had to be rid of the seraph (by death or other means) and Ichimaru had to die. Otherwise he would keep going back and forth and then no one--not them nor Aizen--would trust him. They both were going to be each other's downfall. |

Kisuke sighed and looked at them all. "Aizen will be back, and very soon."
Juushiro nodded. "Because he didn't get the Hougyoku?"
A small outburst exploded in the room then went quickly silent again as he raised his hand. "We did not think the plan would fail. So we gave Kita a fake Hougyoku. Ichimaru knows about it. Kita does not."
"The question is if Ichimaru will claim to know of it and take the blame or not," Juushiro murmured. He looked back at Kisuke. "How long do you think it will be before Sousuke realizes that he has been denied his goal again?"

"And what of Kita and Yumiko when he does realize this? He could kill Yumiko and make Kita's stay there even worse hell than it has been?" Hitsugaya inquired. |

Juushiro shook his head. "The captain commander, Kisuke and I considered the possibility of threatening Yumiko in a different scenario. Even if he lost part of his prize, he would not look to hurt himself in the process of getting back at us. He won't kill Yumiko." The captain lowered his head as he admitted, "I don't know what will happen to Kita though."

Kisuke narrowed his eyes and looked away. "If Ichimaru is any type of a man. He will step up and cover for Kita in this or at least explain to Aizen there is no need for the Hougyoku. If Aizen does try to extract Sumi from Kita. He will be the one killing her. Because it can't be done."
