Makino's eyes went wide. "T.M.I! RIKU! T.M.I!" Her cheeks flushed more as she turned placing her back toward them. "Boys now days." She mumbled to herself. "They're either perverts. Childish or just too nice. Is there not a happy medium out there somewhere?"
She adjusted the bags in her arms again as she looked over her shoulder at the boys. Mitsuo was looking at her ass. Jiro was looking in his bag of sweets. Riku was looking at Sojiro as Sojiro was looking at her.

As Makino’s eyes met his in a plea for help, Sojiro’s heart panicked, switching her face with his mother’s. He blinked and then turned his head aside, cheeks staining lightly. “You’ll find one,” he promised and smacked Mitsuo on the arm. “Give her a break or I won’t talk to my aunt or uncle about helping control the burning.”
That wasn't completely true. He wanted to help, but he didn't want Makino to feel uncomfortable and leave. So he may postpone it.

Jiro looked up from his treat baggie and looked at the faces around him. Clueless as to what just happen or was said. His eyes stopped on Makino as he stepped forward. "Let me help you with those. It seems we have no gentlemen in this group."
Taking the bags in his own arms he turned to the guys. "It's almost dinner time. Maybe we should get a move on before we miss it. I hear some of the Captains are coming by. I know I don't want to miss that."

Makino's eyes lit up, "Is Captain Hirako coming? Is he one of them?"
Mitsuo chuckled as his hands sunk into his pockets. "Seems someone has a crush on a Captain."
Makino's head twisted his direction quickly with a scowl look. "I do not!"
Riku froze like a deer caught in the head lights, yet at the same time he looked excited. He took a firm hold of Sojiro's arm. "Is Captain Ashimitsu going to be there?!" He gripped him tighter. "Please, Soji-kun! Please tell me he'll be there!"
Sojiro tried to shake his hand free, stepping backwards before tripping and falling backwards. He blushed deeply at Riku being on top and pushed. "He may be. Now get off, monkey."
"Monkey?" Riku pouted.
"If you don't want to be called one, you better stop clinging," Sojiro continued before he could really get started.
Riku straddled Sojiro's waist and put his hands on his chest, grabbing his uniform collar. "No! No maybe! Yes or no! Maybe doesn't exist! It's just a word of comfort for the indecisive!! Is Captain Tsukiro Ashimitsu going to be there or not!?" With each word Riku grew closer and closer to Sojiro to the point where he was almost touching noses with him.
Makino's head shook as she looked to Mitsuo and pointed toward Sojiro and Riku. "If anyone has a crush on a Captain its him."

Sojiro’s blush deepened to ripe tomato as his friends watched Riku get nearer, and though technically, he could get his friend off, his limbs weren’t working. “I don’t know about Tsuki!” he muttered, finally shoving his strange friend away. “But Kai is and Juushiro. I don’t know about the others. The fifth, tenth and eleventh still have a lot of seats to fill. But I am sure they’re not the only ones.” He mock glared at his friends. “Satisfied?” he muttered. Riku sighed and got off of Sojiro, helping him off the ground. "I guess... I just really admire him. It's not cause I'm attracted to him. I genuinely admire and respect him."Sojiro chuckled. "I know, but I am technically not supposed to tell you everything, and you make it very difficult." His grin turned into a smirk. "It's a good thing your vase hasn't tipped from where you sat it down to ambush me." They all laughed as Riku leapt away from him and huddled over his treasure, checking obsessively for defects, Sojiro most of all.
Yes, in spite of everything that had happened, it had been a good choice to come here.

"Irrational Feelings":Riku shuffled slowly through the congested crowds of the commerce district. Usually, coming here made him feel better whenever he was upset or overcome with some sort of negative emotion. All of the shiny, sparkly and expensive things served as distractions. However, today that wasn’t working in the slightest. He didn’t even have any money with him to spend on the vendors. He passed the glassware vendor he had bought from on the day he met Makino. His chest burned and a whining grunt of discomfort fell from him as he clenched his chest. He bowed his head, allowing his hair to cover his tear streaked face and rushed forwards past the familiar vendor.
He needed a distraction. He needed something to get rid of the pain he was feeling. He didn’t need to be reminded of something he couldn’t have. If it were any other treasure, he would be upset over it for an hour then get over it. But this was no simple forbidden treasure. This was a person, and that person meant the world to him. But he knew a relationship of that level was impossible. He knew it, and yet he let himself get attached. And now he was stuck with these feelings—this pain—that were completely irrational. He just wanted to forget everything, but thinking about forgetting Sojiro was way more painful than simply not getting what he wanted.
That just made him cry even more.
“Aw, man. I had the greatest time last night.”
“Did you finally get some from that old woman of yours?”
“Hell no! That old witch is still as sour as ever! Nah, I got something way better than what she could ever give me. She was perfect!”
“What if your wife finds out?”
“Fuck her! If she finds out, maybe she’ll realize she better start giving it up before I bail for good.”
Riku stopped in his tracks and looked up. Standing at a jewelry vendor were two men. Soul Reapers. One of them wore an evil, nasty smirk. At his right hip was a fat money pouch made of leather with a woven drawstring.
“To be honest though, I’m thinking about just sticking with this girl I met. She’s a real goddess. Breasts, legs, child-birthing hips and all.”
“Is that who the necklace is for?”
The jewelry vendor handed the man with the pouch an emerald necklace on a silver chain and mounting.
“Yup. I’m going to give it to her. Hopefully she’ll keep seeing me.” The man took the pouch and paid the vendor then stuck the necklace in the pouch and replaced it on his sash. “I’m done here. Let’s go.”
Instinct kicked in and Riku halted his breathing, glaring at the adulterant man. He repressed his reiatsu gradually until it was virtually nonexistent. He followed the two men nonchalantly, weaving through the crowd, barely touching anyone. His sandals were silent against the ground as the crowd in front of the two men became more crowded, they slowed and Riku was able to catch up with them easily. He reached into his kimono sleeve and pulled out what looked like metal rings that fit on the very tips of his fingers. The undersides of the rings were sharp and pointed. He placed one on his thumb and one on his index finger. When the two men were forced to a stop due to the crowd, Riku quickly and silently reached out, grasped the drawstring, and sliced it in two with the sharp edges of the rings. Before anyone thought to look, Riku had already stuffed the pouch deep in his opposite sleeve and removed the rings, all the while weaving to the other side of the road and down an alleyway.
He turned right with the bend in the alley and sat on a stack of boxes and crates placed in a shadowy corner of the alley. He pulled out the pickpocketed pouch and his own empty one. He emptied the contents of the pouch in to his own then tossed the stolen one to the ground.
“Shakkaho.”
Flames engulfed the pouch until it was nothing more than a pile of ash. He scattered the ashes with his foot, careful not to get any soot on his white tabi. He brushed off the bottom of his sandal and turned his attention back to his spoils. The man was apparently loaded. The coin contents of the bag had been a few hundred thousand Kan. The man’s foolishness to carry that much money was now Riku’s luck. He pulled out the silver emerald necklace. It hung and twirled from his finger as Riku inspected it with a fond tilt of his head.
“Very beautiful…” He placed it back in his pouch and placed it in his kimono. He stood up and faced the end of the alley. “Time to go spend some money.”

“And what will you buy with this money?” came a voice from above his head. Riku spun around to see.. no one. He checked his pouch, sighed, and shook his head. But a hand tapped him on his shoulder as he turned around. Kairo grinned as Tsukiro’s ‘hopeful’ nearly fell on his ass with his spinning. Holding up the pilfered necklace, the tricky lieutenant winked and quipped, “This is probably worth as much as your little pouch of coins, don’t you think~?”

“L-Lieutenant Namori, sir! It’s an honor to meet you!” Riku bowed deeply to Captain Ashimitsu’s second in command. He looked up at the necklace the lieutenant held. He quickly but politely took it back and placed it back in the pouch. “Yes. I imagine so. But it will not go to waste. Neither will the money. There are many fine treasures in the marketplace that need a home. I plan to give it to them.”
How did he get the necklace out of my pouch?! Let alone without me seeing or feeling it! More so, there’s no way he doesn’t know that I stole that. Is he going to make me return it?
“All of my treasures are precious to me…” Riku’s thoughts landed on Sojiro again. His chest clenched and he sat back down on the boxes. “Even if they don’t know it. It doesn’t make them any less precious or important to me.”

Though his smile remained, Kairo’s examination of Asuhara sharpened as the boy fell back to the crate, as if resigned to some sort of fate. He did not need another storm cloud in the Stealth Forces without good reason. Especially if Tsuki was going to take him under his wing. That could lead to encouraging his captain’s own dark mood - especially with Tsuki’s worry for Kita.
Tsukiro seriously needed to pick a woman and get attached. Or he would keep falling back to Kita in times like this.
For now, he had someone else to deal with. Kairo sat down a crate besides Asuhara who had remained silent. “You know, if you share what’s on your mind, I may share something with you. But you have to earn it with a good story.”

Riku blinked at the lieutenant then looked down at his feet. A good story? He wasn't sure what the lieutenant classified as a "good story," but he only had one to tell anyway.
"Well... I'm sure you know that my family are a clan of thieves... And with that profession comes the inevitability that you'll be an outcast. I'm no exception. No one would trust me. They all thought I would steal from them without batting an eye. They didn't want to accept the fact that my family only steals from those who deserve to be stolen from. I've been in a few relationships, but every time the person found out who my family was, they left me and didn't look back. But before leaving came the mistrust. The constantly looking over their shoulder, constantly double and triple checking their personal items of value."
He lifted his knees up to his chest, planting his feet onto the box. He leaned back against the wall, hugging his knees. "After a while I just gave up on having a happy and healthy relationship with someone. And then I finally met someone who didn't care about who or what I was. Someone who trusts me. And yet, I knew that what I wanted wasn't possible. I knew it from the moment I met them. I swore to myself that I wouldn't let myself get attached, but I did anyway. I set myself up for a broken heart." He hugged his knees tighter. "I'm not mad at them. I'm mad at myself. And I know I'll just have to get over it... I just... It still hurts... and I still want someone in my life who I can trust and who can trust me back, but maybe I should just be content with being alone."

Kairo shook his head. “Well, that’s just plain stupid.” He kicked the despondent student off his crate to the ground and stretched out on his own. “So what if ‘love’ is going to take some work to find because you’ve got messy circumstances. Here’s news for you, kid. Most people do. People just get attracted to different troubles. My girlfriend is half-human and only sees her mother every few months - if there isn’t something going on. Ukitake’s protection probably stopped her from becoming mistrustful. So what if the first person to trust you can’t give you everything you want? Do you really want to get everything you want in one shot?” He flipped a coin in his hand. “Besides your wish is kind of blind. You’ve got what you say you want. Someone to trust you and someone who won’t judge you. And if you’re going to be content alone, what are you doing working towards joining a division?”

Riku blinked from his position, almost face down, on the ground. When Kairo began speaking again, he looked back and pushed himself of the ground, dusting the dirt off of his clothes.
"I'm not saying I don't want to put in the work. I'm more than willing. It's just when the other person either doesn't want anything to do with me or doesn't believe in me enough to work with me... And I'm definitely NOT content being alone. But what else can I do? I can't force someone to trust me or want to be with me. And I don't exactly fit into any specific dating pool." Riku shook his head absentmindedly "There's a difference between being alone in terms of friendship and being alone romantically. I'm just saying, maybe I shouldn't pursue or look for a romantic relationship. Maybe I should let it come to me."

Kairo rolled his eyes and kicked Riku back to the ground as he rose. “You may be thinking about a romantic relationship but you’ve been worrying about everything but. You don’t need your romantic partner to work with you. You don’t need your romantic partner to be able to watch your back. Just be true to your relationship - if that’s the kind of match you want. But you’re talking like you have to give up on a friendship. On what sounds like the best one you have. That’s what I am hearing. And between the two of us, that kind of friendship is more important than the girl 9 times out of 10. Get your head on right, twerp.”

Riku growled and popped up, sitting on the ground. "I'm not giving up on my friendship! I'll never give up on Sojiro! Never! That thought never even crossed my mind! And who said I wanted a girl?! Maybe I want a boy!" He rolled onto his back and threw his feet forward, jumping to his feet. "And stop knocking me into the dirt! My kimono is ruined now!"
He huffed and dusted himself off once again. "How did a guy like you even land a girl anyway? Do you kick her into the ground too? Or Captain Ashimitsu?"

He grinned. “I don’t kick ladies. That kind of defeats the purpose of getting laid later~ Besides, I’m a taken man now, so I tease only one lady on one desk.” He tossed a coin at Riku. “For your precious kimono. And if you were quicker on your feet, you’d keep your necklace and your elegance longer.”
He waved as he turned around. “Enjoy the market and whichever sex suits your fancy, Asuhara. I have other places to be, more people to greet~"
