Byakuya started, on the inside, at the trust Makino was showing him and looked away to focus on her question. “Sousuke Aizen has one desire. Power. And the Gotei is in his way. In addition, Sojiro’s family has prevented him from obtaining that power multiple times. And when that man can’t get what he wants, he turns to revenge. Or pawns to enable him to harm others or reach his goal faster. Sojiro is in such a position he could fulfill both ends.” He looked down at the young woman taking comfort in him and set a hand on her shoulder. “He’s a strong boy. And he’s surrounded by people who will fight for him if he were to stumble. Including yourself. Believe in that.”

Makino nodded slowly as she lifted her head from its resting position against Byakuya's arm as she did a wide yawn escaped her as she quickly covered her mouth. "Oh my!" she expressed. "I must be more tired than I thought." She looked back up at Byakuya and smiled warmly. "Thank you for the talk I feel much better now."
As he returned her smile with a soft smile of his own, Makino had her arms wrapped around his neck giving him a hug before she realized what she had done. When he stiffened, she quickly released him, her cheeks cherry red as she hung her head.
"I'm...I'm sorry... Captain!" She quickly blurted out.

Byakuya chuckled quietly, shaking his head as he lifted her eyes to his own. “No, Makino,” he asserted in a soft voice, “I am not your captain, and even you were to abandon your stubborn pursuit for a position in the Gotei’s Oni Division and turn to my own, that would still be a fact.” He set a hand on her head. “I have feelings for your mother, feelings I am not likely to abandon. That changes the situation between us, and I am honored that you feel that you can express that.”
She smiled softly as a joy filled her heart. "I am happy that you and my mother could find..." she hesitated not sure if she should use the word love. So she turned to the next best one she could think of, "companionship in one another. You both deserve to be happy, and I am glad she found it in you."
"And I will do my best to answer those standards and expectations." He paused. "Makino, please trust me when I say that I will do right by your family, and in spite of what happened the other night, I do not mean to take your brother's place. There ... he is headed in a dangerous direction that I know from personal experience. I wish to correct that before it becomes painful."

Makino nodded. "I wish Nii-sama saw it that way. All he can see is you coming in and taking over. He is so worried you are going to take his leadership of Masanobu Assassin's away from him. He has had that position even before father past away."
She shook her head. "I don't think you and mother being together or even the thought of you marrying bothers him as much as he wants us to believe. He just does not want to lose what so many people have died to protect. The assassins."
She looked to Byakuya again. "I know you are Byakuya Kuchiki, but there are things not even you know about the assassins. The patrols yes, but not the assassins."

Byakuya nodded. “It wasn’t my place to know. Only if the clan that fostered you fell would it become another piece of knowledge in my keeping.” Makino agreed with another slow nod as she yawned again. Byakuya set his hand on her head again. “Sleep. I will wake you in a few hours.” She looked up at him with a question in her eyes.
“Perhaps with some training from home with the thugs as your focus, you will be able to put them in perspective and not let them control you so much in your subconsciousness. And if it doesn’t work, it will still aid you. Either way, I think you need to make a prolonged visit there. For your own sake. I will make the arrangements." She smiled. “Thank you, Byakuya-sama.”
He nodded and moved to the couch. “Go. I will be here."

"Help Needed": It had been a month since the incident of the key with Sojiro and Aizen, and whatever the Soul Society had done it worked. Makino knew there was no key. She at least knew that much of what was going on, but as for the story of how it was handled she had no clue. She had asked Byakuya a few times what they had done to stop the attack, but he only patted her shoulder and stated.“It is not something that needs to be discussed. Or dwelled on.”She finally just gave up trying to find out and figured in time it would come out, but even with no information being released about it, it did not stop the wild rumors that were floating around about it. Some of them rather comical, some outright ludicrous and impossible to believe, but it did not matter. All that mattered was they were able to stop their century old enemy. However, don’t think just because Aizen and/or the Ayakashi did not attack, all was sunshine and rainbows. It was a hard and demanding month. Makino was trained three times a week by Byakuya himself. Sojiro was pushed to the brink as well by his grandfather and his parents. All three of them. The two were so exhausted most nights they only saw one another during class. This really disappointed the two of them. Though there was one night they got to spend together when they passed out in one another’s arms on the couch, but that was brought to a screeching halt when Byakuya came to fetch Makino for training that next Saturday morning, and caught them. Even though it was completely innocent for the both of them, Byakuya found it completely dishonoring, and told them both it had better never happen again.
Other than the new rule Byakuya had laid out for her and Sojiro, Byakuya had helped her with many things within that month. Her fear in dealing with the thugs that haunted her dreams, and strengthening her bond with Hachidori. There was not a training session that the two did not meditate before training. Makino had found herself so in tune with her Zanpakuto spirit by the end of the month she and Hachidori would chat within her thoughts even when she was not meditating. He even sharpened her sword techniques in ways, neither her father nor brothers touched down on while training with them.
Makino was proud of herself in the progress she had made. She had never felt better mind, body or spirit wise and she owed it all to Byakuya Kuchiki, and she hoped her training with him would never stop, but she knew in time it would have to. He was the head of the Kuchiki Clan and Captain of the Sixth Division. He had other things to do, more important things then to train her. She also knew that in time there would the planning of a wedding. Though it had only been two months he and her mother started courting, they were inseparable unless duty called, and though it may not be a big deal to some that planned a wedding, but this was a Noble wedding and it took time to plan, some up to two years if the Clans were of high stature.
As Makino finally stop her brain from churning over the last months events, she paused and looked around a totally clean dorm room. She smiled brightly with her hands on her hips.
“I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad.” She chuckled softly as her room then echoed with a knock on the door. She looked the way of the noise puzzled as who it could be. She started a path toward the door.
"Who is it?"

Allura knocked on the door and waited patiently, she hadn't spoken to Makino in what seemed like forever, same goes for even seeing her. She sighed in relief when she heard her friends voice inside, a least she was in her room for once.
"It's your favorite redhead." She couldn't help but laugh at the end of her sentence.

Makino chuckled, "Renji? What happen to you, are you sick?" As she reached for the door unlocking and opening it she looked at Allura. "Oh its you!?
Allura looked at her crossing her arms over her chest pretending to be annoyed, "Lieutenant Abarai, huh? I wonder what Sojiro might think of that?"
Makino chuckled, "Its not Sojiro I would be worried about. It would be Lieutenant Abarai's girlfriend." Makino stepped aside letting Allura enter as they both chuckled at one another's antics. "Its good to see you other than in class. What's up?"

Allura walked in and blew a strand of hair out of her face, "I figured it would be nice to get out of my room for once. I've been focusing on studying and trying to play nice with Kumabachi. Both of those things get tiring quickly."
She smiled slightly and turned back to Makino, "Surprisingly enough though, Sayoko and I don't really clash and having someone around is kind of comforting... Even if it is just long silences between us."

"Well I am glad to know you two are at least getting along better than she and I were." She walked toward the kitchen. "You want something to drink? I am rather parched from cleaning all morning."
"Sure. Water is fine don't go out of your way since you have been busy all morning." Allura told her as she disappeared in the kitchen and then returned with two bottles of water.
Makino handed one to her and sat down on the couch on the other end, turning to look at her as they chatted. "So I heard they finally getting the Fall Festival rolling. It's about time something fun is happening other than training and/or panic." She chuckled lightly taking a drink.

"I heard. I honestly can't wait for it to be here." Allura had a soft smile as she took a drink from her water, "It'd be nice to take a break and just breathe."
She then looked to Makino and spoke in a questioning tone, "How have things been for you?"

Makino nodded slowly with a bright smile. "Really good. My nightmares of those guys are finally under control thanks to Byakuya-sama. He is an amazing teacher." She chuckled slightly. "A lot more strict than what my father was or my brothers are, he about killed me a few times in training. However, after I got the hang of his training method I was able to hold my own better."
She leaned forward and pushed softly against Allura's arm. "Oh girl! You have got to see his zanpakuto in released form. Hearing about it and reading about it is nothing compared to seeing it. It is beautiful!" She then quickly shuddered blinking a few times. "And Lieutenant Abarai's." She looked to her friend. "That's some scary crap there. ITS HUGE!!" Makino's arms spread out wide.

Allura's eyes widened some, seeing an entirely different side of Makino took her by complete surprise but she nodded as her friend talked.
"I don't think I've ever seen you this excited about something." A soft giggle escaped Allura as her friend still had the excited look on her face, almost like a child let loose in a room with a ton of sweets.

Makino giggled. "Its amazing to train with the man. I can see why mother fell head over heels for him. He is the best of both worlds."
Allura smirked and decided to poke fun at Makino. "Are you getting a crush on your soon to be step father?"
Makino's expression went blank her eyes wide open as she looked at Allura. Suddenly Makino blurted out. "Of course not! Why would you ask such a thing?"
Allura was laughing at Makino with her expression and actions. "I was kidding! But the look on your face was priceless."
Makino started to giggle softly as she looked at Allura who was trying to mock her expression. "You scared me there. I was afraid if you thought that who else might."

"Well people do come up with the dumbest of rumors. It's always something new with this school and it wouldn't surprise me if someone did start one like that."
Allura shook her head as she thought of all the ridiculous rumors she had heard in the past month but she was brought from her thoughts as there was a knock at the door, she turned her attention to it then back to Makino, "Any idea who that could be, oh busy one?"
