"Well they should be a little more relaxed knowing my family and Squad Six will be patrolling the festival. Captain Kuchiki is making sure everyone will be safe." She started to roll up the layouts as she looked to Riku.
"Is your family going to--" Makino stopped short when she remember Riku's family were proficient thieves. "I eh...Sorry."

Riku smiled sadly and shook his head. "No, don't be sorry. It's fine. It's the price we all pay for choosing thievery as our way of life. When I first joined the Academy I resigned myself to the fact that they would never be welcome at events like these." He sighed and cast his gaze down. "But... even if they could come... they wouldn't. They don't want anything to do with me now that I've renounced my family's trade."

Makino reached out and wrapped her arms around Riku and gave him a tight hug. "It's sad how things work out like that." She parted from the hug her hands still on his shoulders and a bright smile.
"We can always make you a Masanobu." Makino told him. "I need another worry wart brother anyway."

As Riku chuckled at that, Sojiro entered the room from the shadowy corner where he had been listening for a few moments. “You’ll always have us, Riku,” he called out. As Riku turned around, he gave him a quick hug, too.
“Soji-kun...” Makino murmured, “you’ve been crying…” She came over and placed her hand on his cheeks.
“I’m alright,” he stated. He kissed his girlfriend’s hand. “Kisuke just left a message with me after training. He wondered if I wanted to say something about Take-jii at the memorial. When I got back to my dorm, I decided to write something down.... I lost track of time. That’s all. There's a lot going on.”
He looked to Riku and clasped a hand to his shoulder. “Really, Riku-kun, there’s more than one kind of family. You’ll be okay, and the auction looks amazing. The right people will notice."

He really couldn't bring himself to be happy at Sojiro's words when he looked so sad while saying them. Riku nodded with a small smile. "Thank you. I hope people will notice." He frowned at Sojiro, not liking the look in his eyes. "Are you sure you're okay? Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes talking about those who have passed helps you grieve. My Father fell into darkness after my grandfather passed. He wouldn't talk for a long time, but when we did get him to talk, he got better."
He gave Sojiro another hug, squeezing tight. "But if you aren't ready to talk yet, it's okay." Riku was beyond used to Sojiro not talking about things that bothered him, though he still wished more than anything that he would talk a little more sometimes. Not a lot, just some.

Sojiro sighed as everyone looked to him, and he reached into his pocket, pulling out a worn origami crane. The paper had once been ornate, gold flecked with some kind of a geometric design, but it had faded into a feather-soft pale white from many years of handling it. “One day, when… Mom was working,” he ran his finger over the top of the head, “I couldn’t be calmed. I just wanted Dad to wake immediately. Then.” His throat closed. “Now.” He took an unsteady breath. “I don't know when I stopped throwing a fit. But somehow, Take-jii distracted me by falling silent and folding paper. Over and over. Without saying a word. Then, he placed this into my hand and told me the legend about folding paper cranes.” Sojiro chuckled shortly. "He had a whole pile of this pretty paper. And said I could wish for my dad as many times as I needed.”
He slid the memento back into his pocket. “It didn’t bring him back to me, but I was no longer upset when Mom came back. And … it’s still really hard to swallow that he’s gone.”
“And Kyo-jii, he was like a mountain. A mountain that was always laughing but was insurmountable.”
He leaned against the wall. “They’re gone… and Mom’s back in hell. It’s hard to process, but it’s the truth.”

Makino placed a small piece of twin around the now rolled up layouts leaving them to rest on the table. She walked over to her boyfriend again wrapping her arms around him. "I am sure she is alright." She looked into his eyes.
"She is a strong lady." She kissed his cheek and smiled warmly. "She would have to be to live through what I have heard."

"That's right! She's your mom! If she could handle so many years in that place plus your dad, then there's nothing she can't handle," Riku poked Sojiro's arm playfully. "In any case, it's getting late and we haven't eaten. Let's all have dinner together! It'll take our minds off of things." He pulled out his bank book and waved it around like a treat or a gold bar. "And I'm sure none of us feel like cooking, so I'll treat everyone to dinner tonight. Pick wherever you want."
Allura's eyes practically bulged out of her head at Riku waving his bank book around. Sojiro and Makino looked to each other and smiled knowingly. Allura protested about Riku paying, but he just dragged her out of Makino's room. Sojiro and Makino followed them out with Makino kissing Sojiro on the cheek and locking up. The rest of the evening was spent with them eating, drinking and talking about everything under the sun except for the things that were sources of stress for them recently. All of them slept soundly that night and woke up rested and ready to conquer the next day.-- END RP -- "Exchange of Duties":
