Makino sat the pitcher to the counter taking the banknote from Riku's hand as she looked at it. She smiled kindly at him then stepped into him giving him a tight hug. "Thank you Riku. This will really help if that Storage room does not pan out like I am hoping." She turned and stepped from the kitchen to go put it with the festival files. She continued to speak as she walked into the main room.
"I am not sure who I should make this out to. So since Byakuya-sama is holding the money I got from Mother I might just hand it over to him. We are not too sure who can and cannot be trusted right now with everything I have found. I want all the money we have now to be safe. So I believe he will be the one I give it to."

"I agree," Riku said as he, Makino and Sojiro carried the food to the dining table. "If anyone can keep all that money safe, it is him."
They set the table and all sat down around it. They filled their plates and bowls with food and clapped their hands together, saying "itadakimasu." For a few minutes there was silence as they enjoyed the taste of their hot meal. Everything was rich and flavorful. After a moment of enjoying their food, Riku looked towards Sojiro, who still hadn't said anything since before they walked in.
"Soji-kun? Are you okay? Did something happen with your training today?"

Sojiro shook his head. "I am fine. I just had a long talk with my father, one I didn't expect to get."
"About what?" Riku inquired, tilting his head in curiosity.
Sojiro looked to Makino. "The past," he murmured. "What happened behind the scenes."
“Have you decided on any full strategies if it is the worst scenario?” Sojiro asked, turning back to the conversation at hand. He could examine his father’s words later when his girlfriend and best friend weren’t casting short but anxious glance his way. That wasn't the point of this evening, after all. He picked up another slice of carrot from his plate. “If they have been embezzling, it is possible that they’ve been selling the property in their possession in order to acquire more money — only in this way, it would be harder to trace. 3000 isn’t a lot of money when you’re considering that kind of crime. If they were serious, not pulling a prank, more could be stolen in physical assets to disguise their actions.”

Makino shook her head, "I don't think they are that smart. The cash they did take I think they used for their costumes or masks. Maybe daily needs or some trinket they saw they liked." She sighed as she picked up her chopsticks.
"At least that is what I am hoping. I don't think they would be stupid enough to sell Academy property. Though if they did purchase things for the festival just so they had prof they bought it, then turned around and sold it for the cash." She sighed again her hands lifting as she rubbed her temples. "Hm..." she hummed as she closed her eyes her head hanging slightly.
"There is no way we can prove that. They could even turn it to say I stole the items or someone else did." She hummed again as she let her hands lower to the table. She looked between the two at the table with her. "I have to see the storage room first before I can make any more plans for the festival."

Sojiro shook his head. “That’s not possible,” he stated, taking her hand. “They would have to have a better rapport with the teachers and the peers here than they do for that to work.” He squeezed her hand. “Maki, you’re one of the best students in the Academy, and you only recently joined the committee — when they asked you. Your reputation will protect you from that kind of attack — if they were to plan such — and turn it back on themselves. Furthermore, you did not have enough time to complete such a scandal.” He released her. “Believe in yourself more, Makino.”

Makino nodded with a soft smile. "I am trying to keep a positive look on this I am hoping the storage room has everything they claim, and I am sure they would not turn this on me..." She paused. "That just popped into my head and made me worry."
She pulled a hand from Sojiro's and patted the back of his hand that still had a hold of her other hand. "I really want this to work. The auction will be great for raising money for the Winter Festival and to replace the money spent for the Fall one, and more to boot," she looked to Riku and smiled. "If we can pull this off. I want to do a face painting. Game stands, food stands. Maybe fireworks at the end." She paused to see if either of them had ideas to add as she looked between them.

Riku nodded enthusiastically. "We could also do goldfish scooping, karaoke, if it's windy we can do a kite making competition then fly them. We could also do lantern painting. Maybe we could get a kabuki theater troupe to come and perform. Or dancers. Or a magic show." Ideas popped into Riku's mind one after another, counting them off on his fingers. "I know some great artists who could do caricatures and speed paintings and drawings."

Sojiro laughed, drawing attention to himself, and grinned at his two friends. “Tell me, Riku, Maki, with everything you do want, is there one game or event that you don’t want in the festival? Just one?” he teased with a smirk.
Makino blushed and giggled at herself. “But I like fireworks,” she murmured.
Riku rubbed his head with a lopsided grin. “No beauty pageants?”
The two broke down into laughter and Sojiro closed his eyes, joining them.

Makino smirked. "I think a kissing booth, male and female would be fun. A kan a kiss? The best looking guy and girl from the Gotei 13 could fill them."
Riku smiled excitedly and clapped. "Yes! That would be fun!" Then he chuckled sheepishly and scratched his cheek. "Although. I don't think anyone would want me to kiss them. Nor want to kiss me." Suddenly he thought of Kaemon Kaiba, but forced that thought out of his mind. He'd rather not try and work his thoughts through him right now.
Sojiro put a hand to his face, starting to wish he had stayed silent on the number of ideas coming forth. "I know that booth won't cost anyone anything to prepare, but Maki," he muttered, "are you forgetting what you told me?" She cocked her head at him, still grinning. He shook his head again. "People think I am one of the best looking males in the Academy, and you are one of the best looking females. Do you really think-" His mind caught up with him. "Never mind. You said the Gotei." He hid his flaming face behind his hand.
Maki lend toward him kissing a patch of skin she could see on his pink cheek. "We could set up a private boot for just us." She whispered in his ear. She then realized she was doing something she told herself and Sojiro she would stop. She pulled back slowly with a weak smile. "Sorry..." she said softly. She smiled warmly at him and looked to Riku again.
"I am sure we can get a lot of fun things in this festival."

Riku smiled back warmly, but on the inside he felt a small pang of loneliness try to creep up into his chest. It wasn't that Sojiro was with Makino. That ship had long since sailed. No, this time, after that night with Kaemon, it was more of jealously for what they had. They had each other. They loved each other, despite not ever saying it yet. They filled each others lives. Riku had himself and his material things. Ever since he told his family he wasn't going to be a thief anymore, he had slowly begun to realize how empty and hollow the things he owned really were. All the money and valuable things in the world wouldn't make him happy.
But for now, he did his best to ignore his own problems and enjoy the company of his two best friends, regardless of how their PDA reminded him of what he didn't have.
"I'm really excited for this year's festivals! Especially the auction. I can't wait to look at all of the submissions!" For now, he tried to lie to himself and pretend like his treasures were all he needed. He could sort out his thoughts and feelings on his own time. "What kind of specific things does your mom have? You mentioned her kimonos too. What designs does she have?"

Sojiro noticed both Makino’s admission and Riku’s momentary silence, but he decided not to address either thing now. He needed to talk to Makino about her decision now that his head was clear, but it would be a private conversation. And he wanted to be able to give her something to keep her hopes up — if he still didn’t wish to say the words. And Riku had been too focused on his classwork recently. But the time to speak to him and get an answer was probably in the market. For now, he wasn’t going to let anything dampen the night. They all needed this moment together.
“I didn’t see this room when I was there,” Sojiro replied, but I do know that so far, she has hand painted all of Makino’s favorite kimonos,” Sojiro responded, “and my favorite that I have seen is the dark blue kimono she wore last dinner. It was a midnight blue with a starlit lake scene, amber fish swimming below the depths and a single lotus blossom floating on the top.” He looked to Makino. “How often does she paint those kimonos?”

Makino set her chopsticks to the table and looked to Sojiro. "When father was alive she use to paint two a month, some times more. I think each one of us in the family has at least twelve a piece. My brothers have hand painted haoris as well, personalized to their personality."
She looked to Sojiro. "I should have Mother make one for you, or maybe we can find one you like in the spare room."

Sojiro smiled and ran a hand through his hair. “If she wishes to make me one, I would be honored, but I would have to learn how to take care of such a gift. You probably treat them differently than the ones I have in my possession.”
He started and then looked down as Daichi appeared on his shoulder. “There you are. Done having forbidden conversations?”
Riku raised an eyebrow. “Forbidden conversations?” he asked.
Sojiro chuckled and stroked Daichi under his chin, making the ferret rumble in contentment. “The gods are more active now than they have been for ages, probably due to the creation of the Evas. But it gives him a chance to get more information from them. I call it forbidden since he can’t tell me.” He shrugged. “And also as a sort of apology. I lashed out at him when Take-jii died, and I’m making it up to him now.”
Sojiro looked to his friends again. “I am sure this festival will be amazing, but you should probably pick and choose the best until we know what we have,” he winked, “and what treasures we can find for the auctions.”

"I think we should do categories for the auction," Riku pointed out. "Some people may want a kimono but not a vase. Or they may be looking for something in particular or might have a certain thing they know they don't want. If we set up specific categories and give each one a specific time they'll be showcased, people can arrive at the time their particular interest is being auctioned off. It will make it run smoothly and make it convenient for the auction goers."

Makino nodded as she chewed her food, taking a drink to wash it down she spoke. "Well we don't want to get too detailed with it. It would cause it to drag out. Maybe set it up like glass, stone, wearable, canvas, parchment. Give it categories, but not more than five or six."
Both Sojiro and Riku nodded as Maki lifted from the table to retrieve the pitcher of iced tea that was left on the counter. She turned and looked at the two boys. "You know, if this goes well maybe we could start doing this every festival. It would give the Artist in the area recognition and if this does go as well as I hope we can do this in consignment with the Artists. That way they get paid for their work as well."
She sighed softly as she walked back toward the table. "I wish we could do it that way now, but with this mess with the festival funds the art work has to be donated this round."
