"Visiting Daughter":Sitting up in her bed for the first time in days since her injury, Saya was reading a book that her eldest son had brought in for her days before. She was relived that she was finally able to sit up, laying flat on her back was getting rather old, though in reality she wanted to get out of the bed and move around. However, Captain Kotetsu was not having it. Even if it was just in her room.
Saya did have to admit that this was the first serious injury she had suffered in her line of work. Most were just flesh wounds she suffered before. So being bed ridden, even for the short time she had been in the Fourth Division was driving her a little stir crazy. It was not something she was use to nor did she like it. Though even though she could not get around family and friends were stopping by and keeping her entertained, all that were but her daughter, Makino. She did not know the facts behind why she had not stopped in to visit, but she knew her daughter well enough she had a good hunch as of why.
Not able to keep her mind on the book, she closed it, resting it to her lap as she looked toward the opened window. It was a beautiful Autumn day. Still warm enough to enjoy a walk around the lake, but just enough of a nip in the breeze to remind you the colder months were drawing closer. Her mind drifted further into the information she had heard from the medical staff about her daughter and Byakuya's healing. Both seemed to be doing well; Makino still not able to put her weight on the fractured leg and Byakuya grumbling he needed to get back to his Division. She smiled softly as her thoughts drifted to her family. They got very lucky in this raid from Aizen. So much more could have happened. She is just thankful they were all still alive.

Makino walked up to the door of the room her mother was in and opened the door silently. She was not sure if she would be sleeping or not and did not want to disturb her if she was. She knew for her to heal she needed her rest, pausing as she pushed the door open she smiled shaking her head.
"Practice what you preach, Maki." She whispered to herself. She peeked in seeing her mother sitting up looking out the window in her room.
"Well it is about time you come to see me."
Makino chuckled softly and pushed the door open further and hobbled into the room, one crutch under arm. "I can't even sneak in with you."
"Of course not," her mother replied as she turned and looked to her daughter. "You know you kids could never get away with anything. I knew all, seen all and heard all with you five."
Makino smiled and hobbled over to the bed and sat down to the foot of it facing her mother. "It's good to see you up and doing better, Mother."

"It's good to be up and doing better. Have you been to see Byakuya?"
Makino shook her head, "not yet, but I will. That is if the Captain Commander is done speaking to him by the time I am going back to my room."
"The Captain Commander, huh? I do hope its is a personal visit and not business. Byakuya still has healing to do. He was hurt much worse than I was."
Makino nodded slowly, "You both were hurt pretty badly, Mother you both need your rest."
Saya looked at her daughter shaking her head. "I was stabbed in the side. No vital organs were hit. I was told the blade caught Byakuya top center of the abdominal area. Nothing vital was hit, but it severed two of the chest muscles. He will be healing for some time with those. So no heavy lifting for him."

Makino could not help but chuckle lightly. She could not help but imagine Byakuya doing manual labor. "Heavy lifting, huh? I don't think we have to worry about that one. I am sure the heaviest thing Byakuya has ever lifted is his sword."
Saya titled her head and gave Makino a scornful look. "I am sure Byakuya has lifted heavier things."
"His reiatsu?" Makino grinned and shrugged at the same time.
"Makino~" her mother scolded.
"Sorry~, but I just don't see Byakuya doing anything more than ordering people around, signing papers and fighting in battle. I like Captain Kuchiki. I really do, and he is wonderful for you and this family, and he has showed me he will be there for all of us if we need him. He's a wonderful person, but I just don't see manual labor as part of his forte. So I don't think we have to worry about him lifting anything heavier than his sword...or a pencil."

Saya shook her head at her daughter. "Speaking of amazing men. How is that man of yours doing?"
Makino fell silent for a second then sighed, "I don't know. He disappeared on me yesterday. Then his reiatsu vanished. It appeared later that evening, as well as his mothers, but he has not stopped by to see me yet since his return. I just hope everything is alright." She paused falling silent, another sigh escaping her.
"Was that the spike I felt yesterday evening?"
Makino nodded slowly, "yes, I don't know why she was releasing her reiatsu like that. I guess that's why I am so worried. Sojiro is having a really hard time with his family being separated like it is, and he don't want to talk about it. Every time I ask him anything about it he shuts me down by changing the subject or getting really depressed and clams up. I just hope him and his mother did not get into it."
"I don't think his mother would harm him Makino, if that is what has you worried. Not after she saved you both from Aizen that one time."
"I don't think she would harm him, but what she might say to him could put him into a deep depression." Her head shook. "He has it hard enough with everyone's expectations of him and trying to prove himself with who his father is. And with his family being torn apart it does not help one bit."
Saya reached over and took her daughters hand in hers. "He has you to help him through this. You just have to get him to see this. Once he does he will open up and talk to you. Give him time. Don't force him he will come around soon enough."

"Miss Ryouma says I need to corner him and make him talk about it. Not leave him be like I have been." Makino sighed. "I don't know what to do with him. I am afraid I am going to push him away if I force him, but then again I am afraid if I let it go and wait for him to talk to me he might think I don't care enough and that is why I stopped asking."
She looked to her lap and sighed again. "Why do relationships have to be so hard at a young age?"
Saya laughed causing Makino to look back up at her with an odd look. "Relationships are hard no matter what age you are young lady. Don't think just because you're young its all uphill until you get older. You're leading yourself into a major let down."
"But you and Byakuya-sama make it look so easy. As does Kin and Kouen with their girls."
Saya titled her head with a confused look on her face. "Kouen has a girlfriend?"
"Well... he is trying to get one." Makino replied with a soft giggle.

"Ahh, your talking about Ryouma, are you not?" Saya inquired with a title of her head.
Makino smiled as her head nodded slowly. "He seems to be working at it at least."
Saya nodded, "he is taking it rather slow with her because of her past experience with the men she has been with. He wants her to know she is safe with him and he is not out to use her or hurt her in any way."
"Well it is not like he has had any luck with the girls he has been with either. All of them have ran off to be with other men or cheated on him. So it could be a little of both on that factor." Makino smiled as she thought of her brother Kouen. "I don't think he wants to get hurt again either."
"Very true." Saya's hand lifted as she brushed a few strains of hair from her face tucking them behind her ear. "They both deserve to be very happy, and I hope they can do it together. I think they will be good for one another."

"I know they're cute together, and that little Shina is absolutely adorable." Makino stated as she drifted off in thought.
Saya smiled brightly at her daughter as she patted her leg causing Makino to look at her. "So other than having issues with your man. How are you doing?"
Makino smiled warmly, "well as you could see I still can't walk, which is highly annoying. I just want it to be healed and over with."
Her mother nodded slowly waiting for her daughter to continue, she could tell there was more she wanted to say.
"And..." Saya pressed when Makino said nothing.
Makino shook her head not wanting to worry her mother. "Its nothing, really."
"Nothing. Really. I don't believe you." Saya told her. "Come on spill it."
Makino sighed and fell silent for a moment. She then looked pointedly at her mother with a serious look in her eyes and on her face. "You have to promise me you won't freak out and get all protective and tell Byakuya-sama."

Saya looked to her daughter, "you know I can't promise you something like that. You're my daughter and if it has anything to do with your safety I am going to be protective. As far as keeping it from Byakuya I make no promises to you there. He is a Captain of the Gotei I am sure he will be informed of anything dangerous in the area, be it about you or another."
Makino sighed and lowered her eyes from her mother. She was right. She was not going to keep this information away from either of them. She took a deep breath and started her story. "Last night Yuiko came to see me with an issue."
"Yuiko? Yukio Mori?" Saya questioned as her daughter nodded slowly and looked back up to her and continued.

Once Makino finished her story she watched as her mother only shook her head with a concerned look on her face. "I know what your going to say and no I am not coming home."
"You're not staying at the dorms with all this going on. They're getting too close. If they do indeed have Allura you will be next and right now you are vulnerable and I will not have you being in the hands of those men," Saya proclaimed.
"Mom!" Makino barked as she adjusted herself on the bed. "I can take care of myself. I don't need to go home."

"You will," Saya demanded as she pushed herself up in the bed more, "and you are."
"That's not fair!" Makino growled as she went to stand forgetting about her leg. She stumbled slightly forward catching herself on the beds edge. "I did not tell you this for you to go demanding my return home or to make me return home. I am a student of the Academy. How do you expect me to go to my classes when I am staying at the house? I can't walk that far and I will be a sitting duck for sure making that trip on the open roads."
"You won't be making that trip. You still have to heal. I doubt any of the instructors will have you participating in the classes right now. You will return home until these men are caught and placed behind bars. Is that understood, young lady?"
"Mom!"
"Do not mom me! Kin will be coming by here shortly. I will have him send someone over to gather your things from your room and I will let Captain Kotetsu know you are not to be released to go back to the academy. You will be returning home and to be released to one of your brothers."

Makino grabbed her crutch and tucked it under her arm as she hopped back from the bedside. "I can still attended the other classes. Not all of them are training. Do you realize how far behind I will fall if you make me do this? Its not fair for you to force me to give up something I have work so hard at."
"And it is not fair of you to ask me to let my only daughter be placed in harms way when she cannot defend herself." Saya scolded.
Makino huffed. "So what are you going to do when I enter the Gotei? Demand I take a desk job. Because I am going to be in harms way at every turn when I am out on mission."
Saya growled at her daughter. "That is different, young lady and you know that! You won't be injured then, and when you are injured, your Captain will not allow you to be on active duty! And if they do they need to be removed from that position immediately if not sooner!"
"And if I get hurt while on mission? Are you going to be there to save my ass then! What then mother?! You can't always be there to protect me! I am not a child and I am not defenseless! And I am starting to get really tired of being treated like I am!" Her free hand balled into a tight fist as she growled at her mother as her mother gave her a scornful look.
"I am a Masanobu! Trained by you, father, grandfather and all four of my brothers for almost the last two hundred years! I have even been trained by Byakuya-sama! I am not weak! I am not stupid and I am no fool!"
Her mother was about to speak again as Makino gritted her teeth, eyes closed and yelled. "So stop treating me like one!!"

A few moments after Makino’s tirade at her mother, a new voice joined the discussion at hand. “She is not treating you like child or a fool, Makino Tori-Masanobu, though you are acting like one,” it stated in a firm tone. Byakuya entered the room.
His face composed and pain concealed under years of discipline, he slowly made his way towards the bed at a steady pace. There was no anger in his slate grey eyes, though they glinted as he sat down near Saya and took her hand. Then he faced his student and daughter once more.
“Your injury has not healed and it severely hampers your ability to defend yourself from others. Even Kido, your specialty, requires more movement at the higher levels. If the danger at the academy has grown, your mother’s decision is a fair one. It will allow you to heal in a place where you cannot be taken advantage of due to your injury, wrong sense of pride, or your overflowing emotions. At least one which blinds you to the common sense of the matter. You are vulnerable. There are things that must be done when you are such. And you do not have the age or the experience and respect to circumvent such. Your mother is considering your own safety and well-being. You are disregarding such or, even worse, taking it for granted, allowing this as a weakness or a weapon for the enemies to view and exploit."
He paused. “Furthermore, she is your mother. Is there a reason to address her in this manner?”

Makino growled under her breath as she glowered at her mother. "I would have no issue with her request if it were reasonable. Staying at home until I heal is fine and I will do that." She looked over at Byakuya.
"But I will not stay home until these thugs are caught and placed behind bars. That could take months. She knows that as well as you and I, Byakuya-sama, and you know know how far behind that will put me."
She paused for a second her head shaking. "I will not jeopardize what I have work so hard to achieve because she wants to be an over protective parent." Her head shook again. "I am sorry. I won't do it." Her voice raised slightly toward Byakuya.

Byakuya raised his eyebrow. “Calm down, Makino. If you stop for a moment and think about your surroundings, you would realize that there is no reason that you would fall behind in your schooling. Your mother, brothers, myself, and others we can call on can take on your schooling if it becomes necessary.”
Makino looked to her mother as she only nodded her head. "The training of the Masanobu Clan differs greatly from the Gotei. I have learned that with being in the Academy. The Masanobu Clan are Assassins. Not a Military faction." She looked back to Byakuya. "I was trained to take lives. Not save them."
"The Kido is the same as are many of the other areas they train you in, young lady. Also, even if we are assassins we live and die by the same laws and rules of the Soul Society," Saya reminded her. "You just want to be difficult because you are not getting your way."
"Your mother knows your skills, better than you do. She raised you and she has watched you more closely than any other. If she believes this is a matter you should not be involved in, then you should accept that. You may resent her, and me, for this decision, but this is her right and responsibility. You are her daughter and she is the head of the Masanobu Clan." He closed his eyes. "You are still training. It is important to accept her knowledge and her intuition."
