"Hm," Kouen hummed. "I don't like cats. No wait..." He lifted his free hand. "I like cats. I just hate the cat my grandmother had. Mean~" He wrinkled his nose in saying the word. "Use to chase me all over the courtyard when I was little. Though, it probably did not help that I always had some kind of food in my pocket to munch on when I went over there to train with Father and Grandfather."
She giggled softly as Kouen's smile grew. "I like to enjoy a long walk under the moon." he titled his head. "With or without company on my arm. Though company is nicer." He stopped to think. "I told you about the rain. Oh? I have what some like to call odd reading habits or as Nii-sama calls them, 'Perverted', reading habits."

Yumiko blushed deeply. “Oh no, don’t tell you collect the same thing as the Uraharas did?” she exclaimed in mock outrage.
Kouen winked. “That beautiful blush tells me that you at least took a peak at them, if they are the same.”
Yumiko picked up another scone. “I couldn’t help it when they got left in my room when someone moved them around while searching for reading material,” she muttered.
She cast around for something to distract the twinkling eyes locked in her direction. “Walks under the moonlight are much better than them anyways, and poetry is better than those books, too," she said a little too quickly. Air caught in her airways and she coughed. Taking a sip from the tea, she chuckled a moment later. "That's a funny detail to tell someone you just met, Masanobu-san."

"Ah," his tone slightly detested as he waved a hand at her. "If you cannot be yourself, even around new acquaintances then you are a fraud. And if you are a fraud you are not an original. Noble or not. I refuse to hide the true me behind the veil of Nobility most nobles like to hide behind." He leaned back over the table his chin in his hand once more as he looked at Yumiko.
"Are you an original, Lady Ryouma? Or do I dare say you hide behind that veil with the others?"

Yumiko laughed softly. “You’re different, Kouen Masanobu, very different than most nobles I have met.” She took another drink from the tea. “It’s refreshing.” She lowered her cup, her eyes shifting to a darker blue. “It would have been nice to meet you when I was younger.” She laughed again in that soft whispery way. “Though I don’t believe my father would have approved of you.”
He smiled gently. “You never answered my question, Lady Ryouma.” He tilted his head. “Are you going to grace me with a reply?”
Yumiko lowered her eyes to her teacup and ran her fingers over the rim. “That veil of Nobility was a part of my training, and it was something that kept me sane and focused during the years you don’t want to speak about. However, much has happened since then. Am I the same pillar of Nobility?” She looked back up again and shrugged. “I don’t know. But I do know there are times I still use it and wish it were as powerful as it was in the past. It can be useful." She looked over the menu of the teas, intrigued by a couple. "I apologize if that is not what you want to hear, Masanobu-san. But, I too, am still mostly honest."

Kouen smiled and leaned back in his chair. "Knowing your part as a noble, and taking away from the true self that you are, are two totally different things. I can be as noble as the head of the Kuchiki Clan when it is needed, but I refuse to not be myself and live by what I know is right for me. I will not live by what another man or woman believes I should live by just because they think it is right. I refuse to die as a duplicate."
Yumiko smiled at him. "No one's a copy. Even if someone can copy manners, appearances, even powers, we're all different. That's still true." She folded her kimono over her belly. "There are just forces that shape us." Kouen smiled picking up his cup. "Is it? I know someone that would highly disagree with you there. If we are all so busy trying to make others happy, trying to fit in and look the part. How are we not copies? And the act cannot stop, it always has to be in play. Because if it is not, we might slip and show a side of us that is not acceptable to the Noble members. Punishable by their back stabbing, mocking and shunning ways. Act as we do, say as we do, think as we do, and in time you will no longer know who you are." He looked to Yumiko as she lowered her eyes from him."You are definitely different, Masanobu-san." She spoke softly. He smiled warmly at her. "I am a Masterpiece. You will never find another like me, Lady Ryouma. Never."
