Toshiro nodded. "Really? That's good. He'll make a fine captain one day when he is needed for the position. I think we need more of the lieutenants and talented officers aiming that high. With this second war against Aizen, we need all the strength we can get." He gave Rangiku a suggesting look. "Maybe you should work towards achieving bankai? It will give you a good outlet. A goal to achieve."

Rangiku's eyes widened. "Do you really think I could achieve mine? I never thought of myself being strong enough for that." She paused and thought for a moment then looked pointedly at Toshiro. "I don't even know where I would start to get it."
She giggled softly then looked to the waitress as she placed their drinks to the table. "Thank you." She replied to the girl.

Toshiro sipped his tea. "I can help you. Or you can pick some one else to mentor you. I'm sure Ashimitsu would be a good choice. From what I heard, he achieved bankai within a year after graduating the Academy. He's probably even more of a prodigy than what I was considered to be. If he hadn't been blinded by his past, he would have been way beyond my current level by now. And who knows. Probably by this time in a decade or so, he will be."

Rangiku's face lit up at her Captain's words. "Would you... would you really do that for me?" She was honored to know her captain would mentor her in learning her Bankai. "I don't know if I should ask Ashimitsu. With him making Captain and the Commander of the Stealth Force he is going to be really busy."
She sipped at her tea with a bright smile. She was smiling from ear to ear she was so excited.

Toshiro raised an eyebrow at his lieutenant's beaming smile in amusement. "What kind of captain would I be if I didn't offer my lieutenant help with training to become stronger. One of my duties is to be a role model and a mentor to all of my Division members."

She started to feel a little sheepish as she cast her eyes to the table top. "Well...yeah, but--" she paused and looked back up at him her cheeks slightly flush. "I have not exactly been a model lieutenant for you Captain." She sighed. "I apologize for that and I promise to do so much better from here on out."

Toshiro blinked and stared at her with a blank look. "I greatly appreciate your new priorities, but do you realize how long it's been that we've worked together? I've long since gotten used to it." He sipped his tea. "In any case, thank you. It would certainly make my job a whole lot easier if you could pitch in and help me with the work."

Rangiku smile beamed across her face. "I will. So well that you might end up screaming at me to leave you alone."
She giggled softly as she lifted her cup and looked at her Captain over it.

Toshiro looked over to the vase of violets. He reached over and pulled a single blossom out of the vase. "Ashimitsu, a captain. And to think, just a few years ago he was ranting and raving because Soi Fon had had enough of his antics and transferred him out of the Stealth Force and into my division. I always thought he would go crying back to her after a year or two. I never expected him to stay this long."

"He has more spunk than I have seen in a long time. Most would have given up by now, but he pushed through this. I have to say I am very proud of him." A sigh then escaped her as she sit her tea cup to the table. "I am worried for him though when and IF Kita returns."
Toshiro looked at her with curious eyes waiting for her to continue.
"I believe he thinks Kita is going to return as the Kita he always remembered. I don't think he realizes the circumstances she experiences will change her. I am afraid she will not come back to us as the Kita he knew and loved so dearly." She sighed again this time the sigh heavier. "If she comes back at all, and if she doesn't I am worried what this might do to him. He loves her so much."

Toshiro picked the petals off the blossom. "Be it as it may, this is Ashimitsu we're talking about. You can't really predict anything he does or thinks. We'll just have to watch and see what happens from here on out. And who knows? Maybe he'll finally catch a break from his cruel fate. Either way, whatever happens with Kita, that's when we'll truly see the fruits of his labors."
He gathered the violet petals in the palm of his hand then turned his hand and let them fall onto the saucer his tea cup came on.

She nodded slowly then turned a smile to him. "I told Tsukiro after his promotion ceremony to Captain we needed to go out for a celebration dinner. What do you say Captain? You up to joining us for this?"
She picked up her tea cup again taking a sip as she waiting for his answer.

Toshiro gave a tired yawn. "Sure, why not. I'll try and finish up early that day." He let out another yawn. "I need a nap after this. I'm exhausted."

Rangiku giggled softly at her captain. "I think it would be nice to have you there, Tsukiro looks up to you." She set her cup to the table just as their food arrived. She adjusted herself in her seat pulling the plate closer.
"I think I will gather the girls for us go out and do some shopping. It's been awhile since we all have been out together."
Toshiro nodded as he too adjusted himself getting ready to eat. The two sat having an enjoyable meal and light conversation the rest of the afternoon.

"Special Delivery": (continued) Juushiro was patrolling with Rukia, keeping his worry for Hinamori at bay as best he could. He had considered calling the whole attack off, but Isane had advised him against it. Aizen shouldn't know what they were planning. That meant they had a chance of rescuing Hinamori if the mission continued. He sighed, continuing ahead, Rukia a few steps behind him. He halted as Tessai appeared from the shadows. The man bowed, a figure on his back. "I apologize that this is the way we meet again, Captain," he greeted quietly. He looked to Rukia. Juushiro let out another sigh, understanding. "Rukia, please return to the captains' hall and find Kotetsu-san." His lieutenant nodded and took off. Juushiro moved forward and knelt down by Tessai, frowning at the weight of Kido over Yumiko. "She's been drained through Kido." He closed his eyes, shaking his head. "Why did that have to happen again?" Tessai kept his head bowed. "She's under Kyoka Suigetsu, but there was enough of a glimmer for the snake to figure out the truth before she was able to lure Kita away from safety. When discovered, she attacked Gin and then tried to flee. Kita stopped her and I handled the rest." He looked to the kind captain, whose face was grim, green eyes dark with sadness. "I am sorry, old friend." Juushiro closed his eyes again. "No, Tessai, this is better. She's home. I will find a way to reach her, and I expected that there would be damage." He raised a hand and clapped a hand on Tessai's shoulder. "Give Kita, Ichimaru, and Kisuke my gratitude and apologies. I promise to reverse this somehow." The Kido master nodded. "There is more, if you will allow me to accompany you to your destination. Then, I must get back to my charges." Juushiro nodded with a slight smile. "Of course. Thank you, Tessai."
